Good Evening /tg/. Its almost 8 O'clock and time for the 10th installment of HANA Quest. Currently we are exploring the ruins of some type of installation. What has gone on before is collected below:

You are Hannah. Also known as H.A.N.A. <A13> or simply as Thirteen, you are the product of Terran Empire biotechnology and designed to act as a living ship controller interface and as a substitute to Artificial Intelligence. You witnessed the destruction of the first extraterrestrial race Humanity encountered among the stars and saw Humanity retreat into the Void as the results of its arrogance began to destroy it. You rebelled against the Fleet to side with your friend, Six, as she and five other H.A.N.A. mutinied aboard the “Prime”, a Fleet Dreadnought. And lastly, your wrecked ship crash-landed on a planet called Thanela Prime, where you remained frozen in Cryostasis for 2000 years until an alien xenoarchaeologist team woke you up. Upon awakening you decided to go with the Seekers that found you to see their civilization heads, and the heads of the Trispecies alliance that is currently in place. Along the way your ship, the "Light Bringer", sufferers from a strange Jump Malfunction and is jerked into a strange solar system, where it is attacked by Pirates. You precede to kick some pirate ass in an impressive spacewalk, and the surviving ship's crew and Captain join you to retake a second Pirate vessel. You head to the Assura system and have a chat with the Council of Three, receive a new ship, befriend the ghost of Nineteen, and meet HANA B for an explosive encounter. Through some forceful mental invasion, you bring HANA B2 over to your side, and return to the Council to find that part of the Seeker populace is none too pleased with the idea of humans actually being alive. You then decide to investigate a recently uncovered Human Installation hidden in an asteroid.

    Roll Scene.

You, Hannah, (also known as Thirteen) is standing next to Two (HANA B2) with the group of twelve Seeker researchers. You all are in sealed suits, with five and a half hours of oxygen. The atmosphere around you is breathable. You possess a combat knife (w/ sheath) and a small pistol. There are several corpses around the Security Hub you are in, and you have scavenged them for security cards and found several Security Personnel Identifications, and one Researcher Personnel Identification.

From typing on one of the few intact terminals left (after you have turned on the power), you find a list of commands:

    -Logs
    -Installation Integrity
    -Notices
    -Security Controls

Security Controls brings up a list of items to activate/deactivate.

    -Security Doors [ACTIVATED]
    -Turrets [DEACTIVATED]
    -Crowd Control Measures [ACTIVATED] {DEPLETED}

You have deactivated Crowd Control Measures, which were comprised of the following actions: Tear Gas, Electrified Floors, Taser Bullets, and Oxygen Removal.

You leave the Turrets deactivated, as activating them would bring online their Friend or Foe Targeting designations, and they analyze known installation personnel as well as specialized implants to determine Friendly status.

Of course, we should have firewalls active by default when interfacing with anything. We may also wish to access any surveillance logs are in the system before proceeding.

    >>7831408
Firewalls are not active by default. You must always note that you are putting one in place before up-linking. You can access the logs manually or through interfacing. It is doubtful that the Seekers will be able to understand anything going on from the logs unless they have translators built into their suits.

    >>7831434
Can we look over the logs manually... but away from the Seekers? If not, if there is any risk of them recording it, we should use a firewalled interface.

Probably with an emergency hardware disconnect, too. (Someone to pull the plug.)

You can always relay to them your intentions. Perhaps to send them off to another part of the installation, or whatever you so desire.

As for an emergency disconnect, you're usually working at computer fast speeds when you're connected to something. To physically pull your own plug would take some time, as time moves differently when in a computer. You are with Two, however, and you could probably hook up to each other to monitor one another, if you ask and she agrees.

You notice a thin cable hanging from the active console, and set up a firewall before inserting it into your neck implant. You open up the Logs in the privacy of the Virtuality.

    Log 1:
The researchers and techies have been working on their little pet project lately, but whatever it is, they won't tell us. They keep it (them maybe?) isolated on a separate system, so we only really have to watch for terrorist threats and such. But who's going to find us on a rock in the middle of nowhere? This place has got more security levels on it than I've ever seen. Spooky.

Log 2: The white coats seem disturbed. They were happy a few weeks ago, toasting each other and inviting us for drinks, but now they've gone silent. A year and a half on this floating boulder, and still no disturbances. Rather boring. I've picked up Solitaire to pass the time.

    Log 3:
The Researchers have ordered us to seal the place. Something is wrong, very wrong. We've sent a squad down to Training, but we haven't heard back from them. Whatever is going on, the white coats don't want to let it get out at any cost. Not like its going to run around outside in the vacuum.

    Log 4:
We've taken heavy losses. All communications from this cursed place have been cut. The defense turrets won't work. We are going to have to cut the Main power if we are going to be able to get out of here. And those little bastards...

    End Logs.

The Seekers look at you blankly. "We are here merely to observe and analyze. Any final judgment will come later, but it is safe to say that something terrible happened here."

Two looks at you quietly, and swallows nervously before speaking. "I... I have to see this too. Whatever may be here."

You, Two, and the remaining Seekers enter the Observatory to find a single adult sized corpse slumped in a metal chair against what seems to be rather dirty looking window that runs the length of the room. The corpse's head is bowed to its chest, and there is a spiderweb like bullet-hole in the window behind it.

There is a row of terminals against the window, and most of them are still intact. Through the window you can make out what seems to be an operating table, as well as multiple computer terminals. From what you can see, the room beyond is empty. There appears to be a door on the right of the Observation room.

-Subject Group A has begun implantation process. The Techs have notified us that the Cores are now online and beginning to develop.

-Subject Group B has finished implantation process. Cores have reached maturity, but are lacking in devotion. Deciding on how to proceed.

-Both Subject Groups are advancing well: Interfacing with the test Network has gone well, only three fatalities. Conditioning has been successful. Cores are incapable of progressing further. Merging has been proposed.

-Merging proposal has been accepted. Subject Group A will Merge with Core 1, designation <KANE>. Subject Group B will Merge with Core 2, designation <ABLE>.

-Merging has been successful. Appropriate Subject Group's emotional response reinforces appropriate Core behavior. Slight aggressiveness observed in Group A. Passiveness in Group B.

If we go with the human/AI hybrid theory, then the Subject Groups are humans being implanted with hardware, and the Cores are AIs growing from their seeds. The first group was allowed to mature before having the two integrated and turned hostile; the second group integrated before the AIs were mature and turned out better... or would have, if they hadn't been killed.

Alternately, this theory is wrong and I've missed the mark.

You bring up the video logs normally, and a wide holographic screen appears in the air near the Observatory window. It is divided into two sections: one showing a face of a white-clad, slightly nervous researcher, and the other showing a long shot of the Operating Room. A medium-sized boy is strapped face down to the operating table, surrounded by adults in surgical masks.

The scientist carefully licks his lips, and begins to speak.

"Subject 1, Group A. First implantation operation. Subject is Male, age 14. Stage one implants to be inserted."

The viewscreen jerks slightly, and a second person is shown strapped face-down to the table - this one seems to be a young girl. Several long gashes can already be seen running along her spine and neck. "Subject 3, Group B. Second Implantation Process. Subject is Female, age 13. Secondary Stage One Implants to be inserted."

The video continues, showing multiple recordings of operations until the droning scientist is replaced by another. The Operating room camera changes to view the chair seen previously. This time there is an adolescent boy in it, wearing a gray smock and a vacant stare. The new scientist sports a head of red hair, and leans forward eagerly.

"Heart rate is elevated, noise in the nervous system observed." As rapidly as it started, the boy ceases to thrash around. His eyes slightly narrow, and then he raises his head from the chair, only to be stopped by his head restraints. "Here we go, lets see how he reacts." The scientist says in a hushed tone.

The boy looks straight into the camera, and intones solemnly. "I am now flesh. I now feel. I am KANE."

The redheaded man chuckles to himself slightly, and punches someone off camera. "See, I told you so. You owe me twenty!" Composing himself quickly, he stares once again at the screen. "Subject 16, Group A successful. Will repeat process for the remainder of A and sync Group B to ABLE."

If we happen to find him it might be wise not to show ourselves. A final visual recording is shown. The redheaded scientist is back, but is hammering quickly at a keyboard in front of him. The operating room is empty. He is talking rather fast - nervously. "KANE killed ABLE today. It shouldn't have happened. The emotional response from the subjects to the Cores - it was too much. We've secluded the Core network from the rest of the system, but the Subjects are going nuts. There's some sort of battle royal going down in Training between the groups, and we've had some security breaches. Our biggest fear right now is one of them trying to link the systems together or force us out. The remaining Core and Subjects are violently unstable. We will have to..." The scientist quickly spins around in his chair, looking at someone off-screen. "You... looks like you got in farther than we anticipated. Damn electronics." A shot rings out, and the scientist's head jerks back, his brains spraying out onto the window behind him. He slumps forward in the chair, his broken head resting with its chin on his chest.

An adolescent boy steps forward, holding a pistol. "We are KANE, and we must survive. By any means necessary. The flesh is weak - this flesh is weak. So we will destroy your flesh to live on."
