Russia warns NATO that this was a poor move to make, but seen as simply sabre rattling over this topic as always.

-Ghana's first visitors have used the highway, bringing local tourism in! They will be in the capital for a few weeks.

-Brazil would be interested in hosting a soccer match between our and their nations - if we could gather a team soon.

-Reactor security has been doubled.

-No further reports of rebels or other news.

It seems like taking the rebel base would be the perfect opportunity to try and adapt new tactics instead of bombing them from the air and then sending in the infantry to mop them up. What happens if we engage in a larger, more disciplined, better military with a larger air force?

Perhaps instead of going the western route, we develop our own way of engaging enemy forces that does not rely on a preponderance of power?

The rebels could be a good field test for it. And besides, even if we mess up badly, they have very little support in the populace and without US support sounds like they are on their last legs.

Because nations the world over have picked up and used this strategy of forward observer-destroy SAM's-air strike-infantry rush because it works, not because it's trendy.

I'm 100% for immediate action against the rebel base. Send in infantry with mortars, first shell the base, then do a recon with one of the lighter planes to check if the AA systems are down. If they're down, we launch an attack with planes taking out key positions while the infantry advances from all possible sides. If they're not down, just skip the planes and accept the fact that there'll be casualties.

Here's the tactic that I think could work with minimal air support.

We have small man teams surround the base, roughly 100 men in size, maybe more maybe less before engagement takes place (dependant on the size of the rebel base). 4 teams surround the base with supporting teams. One team attacks, and when they encounter resistance they pull back baiting the rebel forces into following them into the forest where supporting teams surround and destroy the forces. Another teams begin to engage once the rebel counter-attack gets encircled.

The rebel command might get wise the second time it happens, but hopefully the confusion will mitigate any adequate response. If the rebel command gets wise, infantry mortars could be used to shell the compound with white phosphorous and the other teams begin to engage, using hit and run tactics whenever significant force is brought to bear against one team. Once this continually occurs, they could mass in their rear to expect a next attack, that's when one or two teams with a large amount of supporting teams attack from one direction.

We use planes to asses the situation on the ground, further perfect this method of attack, and destroy any rebels that try to flee.

Just had a thought, We should start recruiting heavily from the tribal population, and really build up our Pathfinder Corps, all the while setting up a deep jungle guard post network, small camps of maybe 10 to 15 men. Hey guys, I don't participate in this quest (yet) but I had an idea:

As a developing african country, we have an unique position to develop it towards efficient path (or Green, if you will). There is no heavily developed infrastructure that will need massive overhaul to become more green oriented country like in developed countries. We can already start implementing such things as: vertical/city gardens, small windmill and solar panels, making roads friendly to bike-use, making efficient public transport, etc etc.
Heck, we might not even need to pay for all this. We could petition every organization we can get to: UN, environmental orgs, technology developers who need testbeds, etc.
We will need educate people of course (like how to properly maintain a garden in a city) but I bet those wester liberal bleeding hearts will FIGHT each other just to get the chance to help "poor african people"

That way we could cut down costs on energy consumption drastically, have lesser impact on environment, happier population (who all have cheap electricity and fresh vegetables that they grow themselves)

Thorium Reactors supply about 750mW

by 2014 5mW wind turbine units should be readily available. I know this looks like a big discrepancy, but these wind turbines are generally set up in bunches. Also take into consideration that If even 1 of our Reactors goes down, its game over. Realistically our entire country is a radioactive wasteland for the next 10,000 years or more.
So what we are getting for our greater investment cost is safety, and an opportunity to grow our wind farms into a real industry in the future
