Laura and you both got up before 7 in the morning - Laura because she's still in school, technically, and you because it's what a hobo who isn't high would do. You needed to forage, and you needed the time.

Now both of you are leaning on the kitchen counter, nibbling at baguettes, and you are afraid to enter Laura's mind. It's probably still messed up. 'The bread is really...'

'Really?' You chew it. You'd say it's really nice. With marmalade and ham, too.

'Really... um... tough.' Laura's bread is marked here and there with toothmarks where she took a bite and gave up. Oh yeah, well. You can't imagine everyone to have the same endurance of random food as you.

'You want something else for breakfast? Instant noodles?'

Laura nods and puts the kettle on. You look at her, in running shorts and with her messy, straight blonde hair, busying about. Well, what a right mess. What if Chuck is dead? You're meeting Jerky today, too...

> What do?
>>
Things to do today:

> Meet up with your dealer friend and sell all the QGP to him.
> Consider other career choices, perhaps.
> It's Saturday! Go do something! You can go online and see what might be going on in the city today. Saffernsway seems like the sort of mostly quiet place, really.

>marmalade and ham
>Instant noodles?
>for breakfast?
Not sure if hobo or just british...
>>
>>19126834

I think he probably doesn't care anymore, as a hobo.

Anyway. Let's talk to Laura more. We should find out more about her, really.
>>
>>19126796
"So, how are you feeling, Laura?"
>>
>>19126796
"Say Laura, do you know where Chuck usually stays?"
>>
>>19126810
Let's call chuck before we decide what do to with the pills.
Ask Laura to call him, or to give us his number.

We should also call Lena too, for updates on what she did about that mess, if anything.
>>
Thank god Hobo quest is on today
>>
>>19126860
I remember her saying she didn't know.

Let's take the time to ponder something : was Chuck aware that those guys were readying to kidnap Laura ? Did he bait her to pay off his debt ?
>>
>>19126895
Those are things to think about but man let's just enjoy breakfast for now
>>
>>19126856
>>19126859
>>19126860
>>19126861

'So, Laura... how're you feeling?'

'Um... fine I guess.' She cooks her noodles with practiced movements. 'You know, maybe I should go back home for a bit.'

'Where's that?'

'Dirkshire.' Huh. That's a pretty posh place, Dirkshire.

You ask about Chuck, and she doesn't know where he lives, but she does have his phone number. You get her to call him, while you call Lena.

'NNNNNNGGGGGGGUUUUUUUHHHHHHHH,' says Lena, when she picks up. Then 'yes, Dylan?'

'Oh, um, I just want to ask if... how are things? Like... with yesterday, you know...'

'What, your little experiment in creating a Syrian funeral? It's... mostly settled. You're damn lucky no one got killed and there's only been one arrest.'

'Eh? Who was that?'

'One of the pushers. They say he's from a local gang.'

'Um, Chuck isn't picking up the phone,' Laura says.

> What do/say?
>>
Laura has school today anyway?
We need to do that thing that we promised Lana and Kevin
>>
>>19126916
Tell Laura to wait a moment, or call again.

To Lena, ask about the injuries, and if she has info on Chuck or on what's going on with the gang.
Why was the pusher arrested, btw ?
>>
It's Saturday... there's no classes, but Laura says that the clubs are normally on Saturday.

You ask her if everyone needs to join a club, and she nods. 'It's the worst thing, really, the seniors kick the juniors around and all...'
>>
>>19126935
Wait a moment AND call again, rather.

>>19126916
It's good that she wants to go home. She's not as free as we are, and we can't just keep her here without her parent's agreement.
Don't forget to get her to take back her $100.
>>
>>19126960
Well she looks pretty stable so it's all good we still got to do that thing though with the school so we should check out the clubs and by that I mean just do a general scan. You know the thing we promised to do in the first place
>>
>>19126971

Maybe if we just asked her what the school is like, guys? She's a student there, if there's anyone being victimised, she'd know.
>>
>>19126987
Might as well
>>
>>19126987
We still got to go anyways not like we have much to do today
>>
19126987
we already know that there's loads of people getting victimised and imagine asking for specific people who are at the bottom could seem suspicious
>>19126916 ask lena if she knows the names of the pushers who got arrested
>>
What time do the clubs start anyways
>>
You can go down to the high school around 8 in the morning, but don't forget you're meeting Jerky today. At 11.

Laura waits and calls again, twice, and there's still no answer. 'Phone's off,' she says. 'That... doesn't usually happen.'

'Man. Also, so you're going back to Dirkshire?'

'Maybe. Dunno.' A sudden sensation of... bitterness? Touches your tongue. You try to pry it from her mind while she's concentrating on the noodles, and you see an empty house, a large set of keys weighing down the pocket.

You hand her back the banknote, and she accepts after a little argument. 'I shouldn't be keeping you in this flat anyway, they might think I'm a kidnapper or something.'

'But you're not! You saved me,' Laura said. Then she blushes a little and scratches her head.

'Well, your parents would definitely not approve.'

'My parents wouldn't really give a shit.'

> What do/say?
>>
>>19126916

Sounds like Chuck got arrested. Should probably tell her that.
>>
>>19127020
Don't say that
i'm sure your parents care very much about you
>>
>>19127025
We should check online for the news first man and ask Laura what time the clubs end. You know for info and to dodge a weird conversation
>>
Oh yeah, also, Lena hung up on you and said to text because she's got free texts. She says the pusher's name is something generic, Jack or Jake.

'You know anything about Chuck? How's he?'

'Chuck? Who's that?'

Then, a few minutes later, 'I don't know who Chuck is, but Jake was thinking about him. It wasn't very nice thoughts either. As for the gang, well they're relatively small out in Saffernsway I guess. Five or six people. Lots of fear. Maybe a lab somewhere.'
>>
>>19127020
I'm not so sure, parents can make a big deal out of some things and be uncaring about others.

>>19126987
We can ask, but it will look strange if we really start an interrogation. And I'm not sure we'll have interesting information regarding anyone but her without it.
Well, more information about her will be good too, let's ask, along with whether she'll go to her club today.
>>
ok seems clear enough

they're gonna try and attack the girl for some reason probably cause chuck is an ass-hole
so, lets track them all down to their meth lab and give the cops a tip to catch them while they're there
>>
>>19127052
So Chuck is in hiding then well let's just deal with this one step at a time. Ask the club question and see what we can do before the meeting
>>
We should ask her some questions, just to see what the school society is like. How vicious it is. Some places are nicer than others.

Ask about her club, maybe we can follow her there for a bit. Just to scan around.
>>
>>19127065
Second this
>>19127073
Keep this plan in your head if it comes down to that
>>
>>19127052
Why was Jack arrested ? will he get back on the street soonish ?
How should we prevent their revenge against Chuck ?
>>
Ask her for Chuck's full name.
Maybe we can find his address from the phonebook. Or facebook.
>>
>>19127095
Deal with it later. Me wanting to help him would depend if he was in on the kidnapping thing cause if he is fuck that guy
>>
>>19127065
>>19127088

Roll d100 for asking questions.

If you intend to use your abilities, roll another d100 for that. Please specify which is which, I won't be responsible for using an unmarked roll to send Laura into an epileptic fit.

(Nah, I'm not that cruel. Or am I?)

>>19127073
>>19127025

Nah, you're pretty sure it wasn't Chuck who got arrested. Pay attention, the guy's name was Jack or Jake.

... then again, Jack, Jake, Chuck... but a man wouldn't think about himself angrily, you reckon, so it's still not Chuck in the slammer. You don't know if that's good. It might be better if he was in the slammer.

Also, regarding whether Chuck knew about the kidnap attempt, you think it's possible. Look at Laura giving you a hundred dollar note without batting an eyelid, and she goes to Mayne Parish. She must be from a rich family. They probably thought they could get payoff from her.
>>
>>19127073
They have to be fucking imbeciles to attack/kidnap the girl.
>>
rolled 7 = 7

>>19127123

>>
>>19127110

'Oh, it's... Charles Kingston.'

You haven't got facebook, though, so you get Laura to sign on and check him out. Eh... no updates since four days ago. That's even before this whole little fracas came out.

Among the last few postings are non-specific statements about 'woah dude fuckery' and 'damn troubles are coming home'. He must have been really nervous about the whole affair. Why on earth did he even volunteer to push drugs? And then to rope the whole bunch of them into it?
>>
>>19127123

>>
>>19127129
well they did try and push the blame on her and her friends for losing some pills and she was there when the arrest happened, they'd prolly think it was all her fault.

honestly though it's a guess, a what's the worst that could happen, kind of guess
>>
>>19127120
The problem is that any revenge against Chuck might involve Laura and her friends. Even though I don't agree with >>19127073, and think that they probably won't try to hurt laura again - I don't think they even know much about her - there's always a risk.
Plus, I don't think that punitive justice is such a good thing.

>>19127052
Ask Lena if she knows what were Jack's plans about Laura, if he was thinking about her.
>>
>>19127166

>>

>>

>>
Well, you have no idea where Chuck is, and Lena says Jack doesn't know a Laura. Well, not when she was checking him out last night anyway.

'How did you get to check him out anyway?'

'I posed as a prosecutor's assistant.' Dude. That's... dude. Actually, that makes you consider the whole scamming and gambling thing again. Income, man.

Meanwhile, you ask Laura about... things. Actually, since you're worried about Chuck, you start with Chuck.

'Oh... see, he was always this tough-looking guy over in the arcades, right. And he's quite... good looking I guess? So a lot of girls look at him.' Laura smiles awkwardly. 'But the thing is, he's... he comes from a pretty fucked up family, or so he tells me. This school is like the 5th school he's been to, and the only one where he's lasted more than a term.'

'Huh. Why's that?'

'Just... family problems, I guess. Fights and arguments and all that. And then... he started taking pills, you know? Dancing pills, things like that. So he's probably known the pushers for some time.' Laura sighs.

You ask her which club she's in, and she says she's in the orchestra. 'I can't play anything though, I'm rubbish at it, so I just do administrative work mostly...'

'What's the orchestra like?'

'Oh, the same, seniors kick juniors around... see, right, the school is quite the traditional school, so seniority counts a lot. And then the teachers are quite strict too, so there tends to be... I don't know, a hierarchy? In classes... in clubs. Like in orchestra, the first violin, Keira - man, she's... she eats people alive, basically. But she plays violin really well.'

> What do/say?
>>
>>19127264

Also, this won't hurt her, but roll a d100 to sense her thoughts. You're not probing, so unless it was a really traumatic thought you wouldn't hurt her.

You're doing this because you sense that she's distracted while talking about Keira. You glance at the clock and it says 7.15, might want to get a move on if you want to go to school and stalk teenage girls.
>>
rolled 31 = 31

>>19127280
>>19127264

Ask her if we can take a little tour of the school.

I think the pushers only know chuck, and then chuck knows laura. So maybe if we make sure Chuck's okay, then Laura's okay too.

Also, what's with Laura's parents? Lots of keys?
>>
>>19127264

Lena replies, 'no idea when that dude's getting out. I'd say two days? Three days? Unless they charge him with something. Also, sorry, but don't text me for this weekend please. White Dew stuff. Something's up.'

You feel a slight chill down your spine from seeing that message.

As for Laura, you can tell as she talks about Keira that she's wandering off and thinking about some other of her classmates and schoolmates. There's three that catch your interest. While she talks on, you think of Jeanne, who was apparently locked in a toilet cubicle for half a day.

Then there's Anisha, one of the library club people, who's got pretty bad ezcema and people call her Shedding Snake. And finally there's Maisie, who's got a terrible stutter and gets tons of gyp for it, and the teachers also think she's seriously weird because she always disappears by herself somewhere.

'Come think of it, can I go to your school?'

'Eh?' She looks at you. 'Um... What, why?'

No... the only problem is how to get the uniform.
I wouldn't want to go without, it should be much easier to decieve people's perceptions if we don't have to create a completely different image of ourselves.
>>
Also, yes, general policy is highest (or most noteworthy) of first 5 rolls.

And you can always ask for a uniform, I suppose, if you really really want to...

That doesn't explain much... what's the relation with chuck ?
Plus, we want to pass as a normal boy, not a vigilante. Especially not a vigilante that wants to infiltrate a girls' school.
>>
I don't understand why you people want to enroll into a college in the first place anyway.
What the hell do we gain from it? Why the hell would Dylan want to go through stress that is the school life when he already has a great minimum responsibility life, lives in a fucking penthouse (doesn't have to pay for anything home related) and even gets some allowance?
>>
... what's with Lena? Is she all right?

Maybe ask Dawn about her? Also, we need to know more upper-level Psychs, I think.

>>
>>19127508
Dude, we get awesome mind powers, and you want us to become a shut-in slob ?
We have the means to actually enjoy what this dreadful modern society has to offer. Let's go out and profit.
>>
>>19127428
>Also, sorry, but don't text me for this weekend please. White Dew stuff.
Somehow, that sounds likes slang for some kind of girl problem.
>>
Oh, also, your skills so far:

> Self Control 4: SC 4, 3 more points to SC 5
> Sense Proprioception: SP 2, 2 more points to SP 3.
> Pinpoint Presence: PP 1
> Obfuscation: Obf 2 (1 + 1 natural talent), 3 points to Obf 3

If you want to really pass off as other people reliably, Influence Sight and Obfuscation are important.

As for Lena, you message Dawn and she gets back to you soon. 'Well, she's from Autumn... it could be hunters, or it could be creations. Or... maybe someone's gone rogue.'

That sounds dangerous.

Anyway, you tell Laura it's a joke. She chuckles at it, then stretches her legs out on the couch. You remember her feverish overtures last night all of a sudden. She then puts the plate down and yawns, stretching all over the couch.

'You know... there's this little gate we use round the back of the campus. Normally we sneak in from there if we don't want to get caught late, or seen. Maybe I'll have to use that gate today,' she looks at the clock. Oh man, it's half 7. If you want Laura to go to her club, better get a move on now...

> What do/say?
>>
>>19127513
>>19127527
>>19127547

We already have social life, a MASSIVE one.
We have a lot of good places for feeding grounds. Besides, in school, you spent hours amoung the same people. It is not healthy (for them) to eat from the same people.
I never said about shut-in hobo. We can do a lot of stuff but I don't get why it HAS to be fucking college.
WHY? WHAT IS THE REASON?
Do not tell me you plan using mind powers for college stuff because (like cheating) that is beyond retarded as it defeats the whole idea of having education in the first place.

I just don't get it. We can have ALL the benefits of college life without the drawbacks... actually we already have that and you people are really seem to be set getting those drawbacks.
>>
>>19127547
>>19127508
>>19127527

Well, in terms of why - Dawn's mentioned something about building up a social circle. As a Psych, to get stronger and fuel your powers more effectively, it's better that you know more people and know them well.

Knowing more people means you can drain from more people, which lessens the load on a single person; knowing them well increases the quality of the 'feed' they give you, since you are more attuned to their desires, their psychological states, etc.

Also, the act of training and education is seen as highly important to the FreeComm. They are a society dedicated to bringing Psychs into the modern world, as opposed to the Bestowers who still run parishes, use fiefs, and swing censers around in the house while wearing nightgowns. So it kinda fits with the society as well.

Nonetheless, none of this is forced. Consent, not fealty. So if you really don't want to sign up, it's fine.
>>
>>19127561
C'mon, get ready to go to the school, i don't want any remorse on my mind for making a smart girl miss out her school obligations.
>>
>>19127561
Does she wants to ? Let's walk her there and observe from the outside.

I think the infiltration can probably wait until we're better trained.

Do the schoolgirls have places around the school they stay at when they got a hole in their schedule or after school ? Let's check them out too.
>>
>>19127561
Get her to go to school, make her a quick sandwich for lunch. She's got club to go to.
>>
can we get self control high enough that we don't have to worry about rolling a 100
>>
>>19127590
College isn't that bad, you know, even for norms. And we can find a field that's actually of interest for us.
The stress mostly comes from the money problems, during our lives as students and after, as potentially indebted and unemployed youths. We don't have those problems.
>>
rolled 79 = 79

>>19127561
I think we should train Obfuscation and Influence sight. It sounds fun.

On the way to school, have a black cat cross the street in front of us twice, going in the same direction.
Rolling for that.
>>
>>19127615
>>19127628
>>19127647

You get her up, dismissing the memory, and soon she changes into her uniform. It's rather rumpled from yesterday, but there you are. Meanwhile you made her a sandwich from sliced bread this time, butter and Garghlite. 'Ooh, is that garghlite!'

'Yep.' To your surprise, she gives you a quick but tight hug.

The walk to the school takes about 15 minutes, and as you near it you can already feel the well of thought and memory that it is. There's a certain, deep sense of competition running through the atmosphere now, and you think it might be because it's club day. As you walk past the fence, you can see netball girls, basketball girls, cricketeer, tennis... wait a minute, how big *is* this school? You weren't late at the front gate, but by the time you get to the secret gate you are indeed already late.

It must be said - the intensity of the students here is quite strong, whether in sports, or in the arts. You can sense, and trace, dancers; sense the presence of the bands and orchestras. Yet there is an undercurrent of thought below that too - small thoughts, some nice, some quirky or weird, and many nasty.

'That damn bitch Miss Pritcham. She sucks at conducting. And her face looks like someone licking shit off a hot plate. Fuck her.'

'Wait, what?' You realise that thought came from Laura, as she looks through the gate.

'Oh, nothing. I'm off then. Bye!'

And then you're alone. You wonder if Laura's coming back to yours later? Wait, she hasn't got the keys...

> What do/say?

Well, after school hangouts... there's the mall, as you well know, and there's the West Street, officially Saffernsway West Street. It's mostly posh restaurants, bars, cool hipster shops and the like. This is a posh boarding school we're talking about.

As for where they live, Laura tells you there's two halls around here that house most of the first-years and second-years. She lives in Maryland Hall, the other one's Beckster Hall. The third years find their own digs round the area, mostly.

Are you trying to make this happen just to you, or to someone else?

You do manage to imagine a black cat pretty well. Out of curiosity, you send it across the street to 'hide' under a car, and then lean against the school fence as you make it meow at passers by.

Quite a few of them actually fall for it! You even manage to make a kid stay back and stare at the back wheel of a car until his dad comes back and drags him off. That wasn't very nice, Dylan.

'Excuse me, what're you doing here?' You turn to see a stern schoolgirl in a uniform with silver lapels, and an eight-point star on her breast pocket. Wait, that sign...

'Oh. Nothing.'

'Please don't lean on the school fence,' she says, adjusting her glasses. She has a pretty fierce look on her face, you don't imagine she smiles a lot.

While you're leaning and conjuring your cat, you also manage to keep an eye out on Laura. She's up on the fifth floor of the big building behind you, an elegantly built block from which several dying elephants are trumpeting about their tragic lives and circumstances. And many violins are trying to make the scene even more tragic, without success. Dear god, the start of music club day sounds truly horrible.

By the way, we should start studying for the exams at the end of the year. Not too fast, but we have three school years worth of stuff to go over.
Maybe we could buy some books. And check the internet for more info on what exams we can take, and what are high school supposed to have studied for them.

Chuck is a more pressing matter, though. Let's go to a pub or something, and check a phone book for the Kingstons of this neighbourhood. If there's not too many, we can call them all asking for news about Chuck.
We still have a meeting set with Jerky. When and where is it supposed to happen ?
>>
>>19127802
My apologies, I walked a friend of the family's to club today and was just enjoying the weather. Smile at her and stop leaning on the fence.

You waffle a little about how you're just enjoying the weather, and she looks up. Peering into her brain, you sense a deep frustration with having to do patrol duty now, tempered with other things though. There's anticipation in her thoughts as well, good anticipation. She smiles.

'Yeah, okay, just enjoy it without leaning on the fence, yeah?'

'Okay. Cheers.'

She walks off. Huh. This must be the first time yet your peering into someone's brain didn't bring out their inner monsters.

The nearby pub's phonebook has got three Charles Kingstons. One is a man who mumbles something at you in a thick, not-really-Jamaican accent. Another one isn't around. The third one, it's a woman.

'Y... yes?'

'Oh, I'm... looking for Chuck Kingston.'

'He's not here! Wrong number!' Slam. Huh. Looks like you got your person. But the phonebook only says the street he lives on, and when you walk there, it's a large council estate. Well, good bloody luck with that...

You said to meet Jerky at 11, but you could always go early. It's not like he's a banker or anything, just a dealer... it'd take around half an hour there by bus, and it's about 8.30 now.

Are we really selling the drugs, then ? The idea wasn't that popular last time we talked about it.

>>
>>19127992

Add in some fake cats while doing that.
>>
>>19127985
>>19127965

Well, humans are random, that's the point. It'll depend on their mood, their thoughts, and their baseline mental states. If someone's happy and feeling open about it, probing their thoughts just brings the happy thoughts up, and it makes them happy.

More likely, though, people are trying to keep bad thoughts from surfacing, and react defensively and angrily to an attempt at opening them up. So that's roughly how it goes.

> 54 + 10: bare success!

You loiter around the estate, using your pinpointing and proprioception skills to try and figure out what's going on inside. Results aren't very edifying. There's people sleeping. There's teenagers making out in a flat that isn't theirs. There's... oh god, there's two men beating someone.

While you worry about that a bit, you move on and soon pinpoint it somewhat. It's up on the fourth floor, that's for sure. There's someone called Kingston there.

> What do/say?

Your attempts at summoning cats and making yourself unseen don't really succeed; it's probably the distraction of sensing two men pummeling someone with their fists. Oh wait, that isn't even the only fight happening here.

Thankfully, round here, no one really notices you anyway. Come think of it, you've wandered a bit from Saffernsway to end up in this estate. This is the poorer bit of Mexton, it seems. Bloody City neighbourhoods...

>>19128060

Sitting at a bench, trying to look relaxed, you scan the thoughts of those along that floor. It's difficult, though; without a narrow range of targets, you pick up several people, and their thoughts seem to you jumbled, disorganised, if not simply hidden behind thick veils of smog.

What you do glean occasionally from the smog are quite disturbing thoughts. You blink as you see a vivid image of a woman's face being slammed into the edge of a table, coming away with blood all over her gums. There's another one of a man in bed with three women, rutting away. Nice fantasy there, dude, that's freaky stuff.

> Man. What do/say? Also, if you go and meet Jerky early, he's probably there anyway so you won't have to wait. You don't really have hobo clothes left though.
>>
>>19128040
>Why protect him?
If you really need a reason, then it would be because we stole his drugs and put him in this situation, so we're responsible.
But seriously, there's no need for a good reason to stop a kid from having to suffer too much.

Well, of course, if we discover that he really intended to have Laura suffer in his place, then it's something else... but we'll know that when we find him.
>>
>>19128112
We probably won't get anything new from his parents. They probably know less about what's going on than we do.

But then, just as you're wondering about all this, a woman with a flurry of fear about her comes within your range, and you track her as she enters the council estate. She's worrying about Chuck!

As you go up the stairs, you suddenly feel something, a oddly dark and fearful presence, burst into the stairwell. Then a youngster in a stained hoodie emerges, and runs past you, nearly but not quite bumping into you. You managed to hide yourself from a point-blank sighting, it seems... or maybe he's just too distracted.

Also, what are those stains?

By the time you reach the floor, the woman has closed her door. You can tell she's Chuck's mother, probably. Man, this place is a dump. Going up to the door, you send your thoughts in and locate her, and induce her to come to the door before you knock. 'Yes...?'

'Hey there, um... you Chuck's mum?' You make use of your hobo accent - come think of it, when did you start speaking more poshly all of a sudden? You've been subconsciously adopting such illusions, it appears. 'Hey, I'm Dave right, and I'm just wondering if Chuck's round here, we said to meet for pizza but he didn't come round, he sick or sommin?'

'Oh... I see... well, I haven't seen him since last evening as well, actually.'

Running into the kitchen, you see her holding her hand; she's scalded it on the kettle. Damn! You've overdone it again! She turns to you, tears streaming down her eyes. 'It hurts! Shit!'

Take your time and read the stuff and post, I'll make sure questions are answered.

As for self-control, to be honest you've now reached the stage where you probably won't outright fry brains if you don't want to. To minimise any chance of using any power unconsciously is quite impossible; most of your brain isn't conscious anyway, and you're always keeping an eye out of things.

So I guess it depends on what one's definition of brain frying is. If you mean to intervene but then end up making someone panic, like this, it's partly self-control and partly also learning to finetune your interventions. To eliminate the risk of that, your SC would probably need to be an absurdly high level. As it stands now, you've already significantly lessened that risk.

> 56 + 6 vs. 19 + 10: success!

You don't really need to go down and see it with your eyes to know what's up, from the thoughts of the woman who's now hysterical. The homeowner got stabbed in the stomach, and now he's lying there in a big puddle of blood.

You don't sense any activity from the person... he's probably dead. That accounts, too, for the rather oppressive atmosphere which is hanging round the whole area - fear, lots of fear, and the mood of violence.

Calling the ambulance, you give the address, and then you sneak down the stairs before slipping out. Bloody hell. What a fucking miserable day.

> What do/say? You're outside the council estate now... it's been five minutes... where the hell is the ambulance?
>>
>>19128819

We mess with minds. That isn't going to fix a stab wound.
>>
>>19128819
Dude if being mean to a girl= selling her out to pushers then what could he do to make him a total douche bag to her but anyways not much we can do but call an ambulance. We are ex-hobos not doctors we have a bad track record at helping people.
>>
>>19128819
Well, our powers won't make him unstabbed. We can't help better than people who get paid to take care of things like this.
>>
>>19128836

Wait till ambulance does come, then go off back home. Shower, watch some news, go meet Jerky.
>>
>>19128836
It's a slum no surprise Emergency medical services are notoriously slow in slums
>>
>>19128836
Well, it fells bad, but I don't see what we can do. Go get the drugs and sell them.

Hey, can you draw a schematic map of the city with just dots for the few places we know and the travel time from the flat to each ? So that we get an idea of whether we'll pass saffron on our way to jerky, and things like that.
>>
we can make sure the fuckers that stabbed him are gone and staunch his wound if we can till the medics are on the doorstep then just vamoose
>>
>>19128871
>>19128872

It takes 15 minutes for the ambulance to come, by which time a large crowd has come and the taste of fear and grief again tingles in your mouth. It's a bit too much to take; you slink off.

You walk through a mostly quiet area now and get back home, where you shower and watch the news. Oh man. Continental news is pretty bad. Riots everywhere over economic measures. There's been a general strike called. Well, good for you to live in the city, eh?

... oh wait. Oh, in Canisburgh, there's been rioting, as the Premier visits. Massive protests... political negotiations... elections might be called early...

Bleh. You take the drugs and hide them securely on yourself. You check the phone, and Laura's sent you a message.

'Hey need to get some of my stuff in your place no keys are you home?'

> What do/say?
> Also, to clarify - you can't sense any thoughts coming from the man anymore. He's dead, and you know it, because you can tell between a brain that works and a brain that's dead...

It's about half 9 now. You've got a bit of time. It takes half an hour to get to Jerky's.

Laura replies, 'Um it's best I come get it myself. Will you be home around 3, maybe? Sorry!'

As for the drugs, she doesn't know you have them... you think. What stuff did you have to do? So far as you remember you haven't got any particular appointments...

> 73 + 12: success!

Well, this time of day there isn't much going on round you. Polish and Czech and Turkish people pottering round the house, cleaning stuff mostly. So you just meditate.

You in fact decide to go at the Turkish handyman just downstairs, to see how much you can probe him while being careful about it. It works quite well. You gain a good measure of what's fine, and what's not, though the information you glean is mostly in Turkish, with a bit of broken English mixed into it. You get some vivid images of the rugged foothills of Anatolia, though. Nice. Looks like a nice place to visit.

> You gain 1 point in self control! 2 points to SC 5.

As for being hard to notice, you try to train that...

> Roll d100 with a penalty, since it's rather rushed now. Every time training is suggested, please specify what you're training, roll, and give insights which will give bonuses.

You tell Laura you'll be in at 3, she thanks you. 'Oh man, orchestra is boring, and the conductor's being horrible again,' she replies.

You decide to attempt training obfuscation, but on second thought... if a man makes himself invisible and nobody sees it, is he invisible?

It doesn't seem to have an easy answer, that question. Maybe you'll just practice the obfuscation later, when there *are* people around to see - well, to not-see - you.

Picking up your stuff, you go downstairs, walk into the thin crowd of people round Saffernsway, and start to obfuscate...

> Okay, roll d100, this time without penalties. You haven't got weird philosophical counterfactuals to deal with this time.

Meanwhile, you also text Laura. 'She's boring! And she's asking me to organise notes that she messed up!'

'What was it you left in the house, actually?'

'Um... it's my private stuff.'

Oh.

> What do/say, if anything? Or just practice obfuscation and meet Jerky?

You manage to not pay for the bus, and get into a seat. No one seems to glance at you as the bus travels. Neither does anyone glance at you when you get off the bus.

When you turn into an alley, someone starts yelling, and you think you've intruded somehow; instinctively you prepare to run, but then you realise he's talking to another person just upstairs, on a scaffold. He hasn't noticed you at all.

> You gain 1 point in Obfuscation. 2 more to Obf 3.

Soon you run into Jerky, but he doesn't notice you either until you greet him. 'The hell? You're wearing clean clothes!'

'Yeah, I know. I done good, mate.'

He leads you into a dingy flat where he's clearly squatting. On two floor mattresses lie four or five others, in various states of highness, talkativeness and dress. You show Jerky the stuff, and he looks at them, sniffs them, hefts them in his hand.

'I'll give you ten for each pill,' he says. 'How's that?'

> Accept? That'd be $1,300.
>>
> AND IT FUCKING HAPPENS AGAIN!

That roll will be for later. Promise it'll be used. No nat 100 goes to waste.
>>
>>19129360
Take it it's not like we are gonna deal this ourselves and he wants to make a 2 dollar profit on each pill

only problem is the pushers wanted 3 grand for these at first (although a lot of that might have come from the fact he was only selling to rich kids with no concept of money)
then again if we're not trying to use this money to bail laura chuck etc. out it could be a good way for us to just get rid of the drugs.
fuck it, sense motives on him, see if he's trying to rip us off

'You're giving me ten for each?' Huh, that's... nice of him! 'Yeah... okay, sure.'

'I can be generous, mate, I've got new pushers. This party stuff, all the hot teenyboppers like it. You should see the main street here on a Saturday night. Woohoo, man!'

He counts a pile of notes for you. They're quite filthy, literally, but heck, money's money.

> You get $1,300- what's that?

You sense a sudden change in the atmosphere for some reason, and can't help but turn to look. It's from down the road, a sudden sense of tension and commotion and vague fear - not unlike what you unleashed.

And then you sense the presence, or the presences, at the heart of it. There's two Psychs, right down the street, and they are clearly going at it in public.

> Shit! What do?
>>
>>19129455
Go away? We don't have to deal with this.
Actually, lets call Lena or someone and notify.

Also, maybe we should suggest Jerky to not use the local dealers who operate here on the campus?
>>
>>19129455

Let's leg it. Keep track of the Psychs as they move. Observe the crowd.

Are psychs even allowed to do this in public? Isn't this way too open?

Let's say Dawn. Lena is probably busy right this instant, the indirect way could be faster.

'Mate, you better close your doors and watch out. Bad shit's going on outside.'

'Yeahhhh man, stay outta trouble, you,' he looks at you and waves feebly as you leave, walking out and nearly getting staggered by the maelstrom.

Around you people are moving steadily away from an area, though they are walking rather than running. In fact, to a casual observer - well, someone who isn't feeling the rush of energy pulsing through the whole area - it just looks like something subtle has come over a crowd, like the realisation that lunchtime has begun.

(Also, it actually *has*!)

You try to ward the headaches off, and then feel the rushes of energy turn in your direction. Oh, shit. Turning around, you walk down one alleyway, and then another, only to turn around straight into a garden square and feel yourself physically pushed back against a brick wall. Oh god, someone is putting a drill to your temples, beetles are crawling over your ears, your hands are being held over a bunsen burner...

Opening your eyes you take a few steps sideways. You've sensed what you need to know. These aren't FreeComm; they're Bestowed Psychs, and they have sensed an intruder. You turn around and run straight into one of them, and your feet stay rooted in place, muscles cramping, as he looks at you. A long pause. You must be screaming from the cramps now...

And then it subsides, and you cling to a tree as your legs give way. You hear the tail end of a thought, some frustration at how the intruder managed to disappear, before that fades off too, leaving only disturbed emanations in their wake.

Fucking hell, buddy, you need to get the hell out of here. You walk, trying to conceal the fact that your muscles are still occasionally seizing and twitching, and finally get on a bus home.

When you get back, the true magnitude of what you've done hits you. Two Psychs, both sensing an intruder, ran straight into you - and then ran off. If they'd caught you, your brains would be on the floor round your feet by now. You very, very nearly got destroyed.

> Congratulations on the good roll. You gain two levels in Obfuscation (3 + 1 = 4).

When you reach home, you call Dawn and tell her what happened. 'Are you all right, Dylan? Oh god, that scared me!'

'I'm fine... I'm fine enough to talk, at least...'

'Well, please be more alert and careful, Dylan. Can't have another run in with other people, Jeff's very nice by their standards already. The others wouldn't hesitate to melt you, or commit Morus on a new one like you.'

'Sorry. I'm having a headache. Your foot okay? How was orchestra?'

'It should have ended at 1, but I ended up organising a ton of notes and scores. We're preparing for the Midsummer Gala Night next month, see, so it's just all this and that. And my feet are fine, thanks.' She shows you her foot, tightly bandaged.

You wait outside her bedroom until she comes out with a plastic bag. 'Say, so you live here and your parents live in Dirkshire, right?'

'I live here and in Dirkshire. Dad's in Saudi Arabia... or Dubai, doing his business. Mum is sometimes in Dirkshire, and sometimes I don't know where. Who cares?' She falls back on the couch with an oof.

You reach over and pat her shoulder. 'You don't have to go back if you're thinking about hiding out. I told my friend you'd be here for a few days, maybe a week. So you can stay for a bit.'

She turns around and looks up at you. 'You'd let me?'

'I don't see why not. Well, it's not up to me, but if the friend said okay...'

She smiles. 'I can cook for you! Well, instant noodles.' To prove it, she gets up and goes to the kitchen. Mind, you're actually really rather hungry now.

Let's help her and make something a little more sophisticated than instant noodles. Is there a cookbook in this kitchen ? If not, check the internet for the ingredients we have.

Maybe we can add our smallish cooking abilities to achieve something. If not, well that might be fun anyway.
>>

'Oh yeah.' So she changes into the same shorts and shirt combo as this morning, but with the sleeves rolled up.

It must be said, thank heavens for the electric stove. You wouldn't step in a kitchen with a flame stove. Nope. Just... nope.

Or if we do, I'd prefer we choose Anne.

You ask about the restaurant, and Dawn replies. 'Oh, it's nothing special, just a THREE COUBERTIN STAR FRENCH JOINT. Numsang likes the place a lot. She'll come pick you up tomorrow, says a friend is also coming along.'

What on earth is a coubertin star? You thought five stars was always the best. Three stars isn't much, is it?

Meanwhile, you go in and join Laura in cooking the noodles. The kitchen, large as it appears, actually doesn't have that much space for multiple people, and you damn nearly spill hot water on her once. Several times though, it's just bumping into each other, and while you're concentrated on the task at hand, you again sense her libido. You wonder if it's just the need for some attachment?

As you wonder, the whole dish gets out of hand, until you have a chicken and seafood stew with tomatoes, capers, garlic, celery, onion, shallots and leeks boiling away on the stove. Laura takes a deep breath.

'It smells brilliant! How'd you learn this?'

Also, you ask her about the Coubertin star, and she gasps. 'I think three stars is when they recommend you buy a plane ticket to go try it out...'

> What do/say?
>>
>>19130330
>'It smells brilliant! How'd you learn this?'

"Picked up few things when I was traveling."

Maybe we should never have live-in girlfriends. Not for any other reason, but if they're close by we drain them faster, isn't it?

So if we really like someone, we probably shouldn't stick with her all the time or she'll go insane. Just kind of visit them while staying alone. Unless it's a psych, maybe.
>>
>>19130360
or we could make a harem of dozen girls and we would not eat them as much

You don't know about upper limits for sexual partners. Lena doesn't sound particularly inhibited. Then again, more partners, more jealousy, more bad dynamics... that could be a dangerous downward spiral. Even you can see that.

'Oh, it's... nothing really. Picked it up while... travelling.'

'Travelling?' Laura looks at the completed stew. Woah, it does smell lovely, almost overwhelming. 'That explains why it looks so... French, I guess.'

You sit down to a lovely meal of instant noodles and very, very hearty stew, on the kitchen counter again. Laura, apparently more relaxed now, slurps her noodles and grins at you. She's gone a little quiet as she eats. That's normal, you reckon... but she's also frequently stealing glances at you. Is that normal?

The two of you end up playing a little game. You glance at her, then eat as she glances at you. Yeah, that's perfectly normal, isn't it? Kids play this game at 5. You reckon. Possibly.

Laura has a prominent nose, nicely shaped cheekbones, though there are zits on her forehead. Well, there's zits on yours too. And she's got long eyelashes, which must be natural, unless she's left them stuck on for two days. Now that's not normal... is that?

> 80 vs. 41: success!

She's thinking, still, about her home. Mind, it looks like a lovely place. It's a house with a great big field around it, gardens, rows of rose bushes. But she's comparing it to here, and she clearly thinks this place is nicer.

She's also thinking about people at school. You can roughly see the faces of the orchestra, as she remembers them. Oh come on, no one has a nose that big, Laura... ooh, that girl's pretty. What's her name? Oh, she's a bitch? Figures.

And she's thinking about you. She likes to cook here, bumping against you every now and then, and eating good food. It's nice you let her stay here, even if just for two or three days. And it'd be nice if you would...

'Sorry?'

'You weren't listening! I was just saying...' you try to keep track of what she says about student politics, the moving of the Mayne Parish Students' Council, them having new buildings, the upcoming Municipal Track Meet...

Soon lunch is just about finished. Laura offers to spoon another portion for you.

>Laura offers to spoon another portion for you.

I'm sorry but what does "to spoon a portion" mean?
>>
>>19130602
Please. We've got a good meal going and after the day we've had having someone take care of us is especially nice.

I think we have our mind powers under enough control to have sex without crisping her brain, we'll have to be careful but I think we can initiate flirting.
>>

>>
You nod and agree to another portion, and she picks out all the chicken and seafood for you. 'What about yourself?'

'Oh I'm stuffed.' She pats her stomach and smiles, before stretching in the chair. 'Thanks for the meal. That was awesome.'

'No problem, I'm glad to help.' You sip away at the soup and can sense, through proprioception, that Laura is swinging her feet under the table. She's also gradually, gently, tilting forward, trying to make contact with-

There's a thunk as her foot connects with the metal leg of the table, and she yelps in both surprise and pain. You realise it's the injured foot she's banged. Well, luck of the wounded...

'Owww... I was trying to play foo- um, owwwww!' Her brain is unusually leaky. You wonder if you've poked a few too many holes in it.

> What do/say? You don't know about Anne; she's an arts student. But you could always call her you reckon.
>>
>>19130718

"Are you okay?

>>
>>19130718
You alright, offer to change the bandages for her to make sure it's staying clean and healing properly, and maybe a massage to relax it and take her mind off of the pain.
>>
>>19130765

>>
Is there a console in this place ?

Also, what does Laura know about us and what we do ? Does she assume we're a highschool student ?
>>

>>

>>19130745
>>19130765
>>19130769

'Oh dear. Do you want help changing the bandage, actually?'

She looks at you for a long moment, and then nods. You go off to look for another bandage, while keeping your mind on hers, trying to figure out what she's thinking. But even as you emerge from the bathroom, her mind appears to have clouded over. It's almost like that first time you bandaged her foot and she went into a horny trance.

If you want to tell more about her thinking, you'll probably need to actually probe her mind.

> Do so?

Meanwhile, though, she hobbles to the couch and you sit on the floor, putting one foot on her lap. Her legs are pale and shapely, the skin almost shining in the sunlight. And her toes are red from having kicked a metal table leg. Seriously...

You cradle the foot in your hand and unwind the bandage carefully, but she still jerks in pain when you pull the last bit off. Well... the wound's looking better now. Sure isn't bleeding anymore. You dab a bit of iodine on it, while she gasps and complains, before wrapping it up, slowly and carefully.

As you do it, though, her other foot is moving to your other knee. It sits there, at first, unmoving; then as you're about done with bandaging her foot, she starts moving it. There's your footsie then, lady. You look up and see her staring at the floor intensely.

> What do/say?

>>
rolled 6 = 6

>>19130843
I don't know how to react, so let's probe.
After all, we are an awkward teenager with mind powers, so let's act like one.
>>
>>19130843
No probing, it ends badly.

Start giving her a nice foot and leg massage moving upwards. See where it goes from there, keep our mind powers in very very tight check.

I'd suggest asking if she wanted to know anything about us but given how much she wants to screw us and her odd mental state I don't think she's going to be all that coherent.
>>
>>19130877
No probing! We'll wreck the poor girl's brains at this rate.

No. Don't go past her ankle. Take on a slightly embarrassed look and go do something else.

>>19130924
It's surprising, no? This has got to be the first quest I've ever seen where /tg/ wasn't trying to bang everything even vaguely female without a moment's hesitation.
>>
> Yeah, no worries, no probing.

You look at her gently moving foot, rubbing your knee in circles, then look up at her. Her brain is now very clouded over and you're unsure if that's deliberate.

Was Anne like that when the two of you fucked? Come think of it, you couldn't really figure out what she was thinking either. But maybe you were just really green then. That's something to ask, maybe...

Meanwhile, you take her uninjured foot and start to rub it - her thin toes, the curve of her sole. She rubs your other knee with her foot. Then, slowly, you knead and press her ankle. 'Now that's comfy, isn't-'

She's put her other leg on your shoulder now. You look up at her; she's only just turned to look at you. Laura starts to shift forward in her seat.

'Um... Laura?' You have to say, her leg on your shoulder is enjoyable. It's nice. But.... weird. And she doesn't reply.

> What do/say?
>>
>>19130924
Because she'll expect more than sex if we do have sex, and I don't want to disappoint her. Let's be nice, even flirty, for the fun of it, but not go too far.
Going too far would be making an intent to fuck her obvious. Because it would allow her to voice her own interest and we'll have to make a difficult choice then.
>>
>>19130924
hmm, we've got enough self control, no?

>>19130959
Keep on massaging, just keep on going. We're 17 years old and recently out of hobodom. Now a hot girl who has issues about people not thinking she's attractive quite obviously wants us to sleep with her. Keep on massaging and see where she goes with this.

>>
>>19131024
We've gotten better at the self control since then. Much better, we aren't going to fry her brain, and given that last night she was sobbing that nobody ever wanted to have sex with her, she's attractive and pushing hard to sleep with us I'd say go for it and keep our mind very tightly under control.

You feel her nudge you towards her left thigh. Your hand goes on her knee as you bend close. Then you snap awake - no, no, no. This isn't... right.

'Ooh, got the dishes to do,' you say, and gently shrug her leg off your shoulder. She doesn't respond or react very much as you stand up. 'Well, that's your foot... done up.'

You then go over to the dishwasher quickly. You have to admit, you are as hard as a wooden post now. No, like a stone pillar. Maybe an I-beam, even. But somehow - Laura's brain fogged up, her eyes glassy - something's wrong. It would be wrong to take advantage.

As you load the dishes into the machine, you hear her voice. 'Dylan! Oh yes, I should come help you. Sorry bout that...'

She sounds unusually chirpy; you sense the fog clearing, and take in a deep draught of strangely happy thoughts, a sweetness in the mouth. Huh. That's... weird.

'Ah, okay.' You turn to take the dishes, but can't help sneaking glances at her legs. They're lovely, you have to say. Then, belatedly, you see she's caught you looking and turn around.

'Hmmm...'

'Yeah?'

'It's funny. You'd see but you won't touch.'

'I did touch. Well. Massage.'

'You know what I mean, Dylan...' her voice trails off. You set the dishwasher, and then she nudges you aside and sets it properly. 'You've got the big plates in the wrong place.'

'Sorry.'

'So you won't? Not with me?' She looks at you, and pushes the machine door closed. 'Never? Never ever?'

Dear god, why bring in finality like this?

Poor Dylan, he has so many more women problems than Adrian does.

There are available women but he's worried about exploding brains and the fact that Laura occasionally goes into a fugue state, a sexy fugue state.
>>
>>19131802
In his place I would be simply overwhelmed and confused.
I mean, how many girls hit on Dylan in the past few days? Wouldn't you find that weird after spending whole life without getting any attention? Dylan didn't even use his powers to influence them, they just kinda started liking him.
>>
>>19131830
You get a lot more attention from ladies when you stop being a Hobo, get some self confidence, clean up, and start living in a bitching pad. Our female social circle kind of expanded when we got involved with Free Community and started living next to a girl's school.
>>
>>19131896

'Look, trust me, Laura, I... I really want to.' Yeah, that'd explain the obelisk in your pants.

'Then why not?'

You rub your forehead. Aren't you both seventeen, why do you have to act like the mature half? Or is humping everyone you fancy after two days the normal thing for seventeen year olds? (Don't answer that.)

'I... okay. We just got to know each other. You were in a dreadful state yesterday. And I... I've got things to handle... work to do, issues to deal with. I can't just, you know, jump on you like that. It's not that I'll... never jump on you... well maybe not jump...'

You don't really get to finish the sentence since she comes up and hugs you. Oh shit, well now she can feel your, um, willingness. Down boy. Doooown. You pat her back, feel the outline of her shoulder blades.

'You're a stupidly nice guy,' Laura says, wiping her eyes. You detect a bit of anger towards you, but just a little. 'Fine. I won't wait very long for you, just so you know. Settle your issues quick if you want me still.' She sounds suddenly mature, decisive.
