>>Previous threads can be found at: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Sorceress%20QuestThe balcony was opulent, made out of some golden material, and there were tables spread across the balcony, covered in strange tools, magnifying glasses, scales- some magical in nature, some merely examining devices. In the corner of the balcony was a tent with a clean bedroll on the inside."And here's my balcony." Kiyara said, spreading her arms. "You tall 'uns might want to duck through the doorway out here." She said. She opened a chest- made out of gold too, it seemed- and grabbed a series of smaller crystals, mounting them in a device."Is it just me, or is this place covered in gold?" Lewin asked."It's not gold." The elf woman said. "It's orichalum. Pretty soft, easily alchemized from bronze, focuses magic pretty well. This entire spire is made out of the stuff so it can channel energy into the weave."
>>19348637look around and then compliment her placethen ask her to explain the magic crystals
Hot damn op, how do you manage to do your quest so often without hitting some kind of mental fatigue?
rolled 25 = 25"Interesting. Ah, would you mind if I could see one of those fey crystals, one of your spares? I'm rather intrigued by them."Rolling for fey crystal magicdickery!
rolled 93 = 93>>19348672I'm going to roll for this, just because I don't want us exhausting ourselves over something useless.
>>19348668>I have no idea."Interesting." You say, looking around. "I have to compliment your place.""Thanks." She said."Would you mind if I could see one of those crystals, one of the spares? I'm rather intrigued by them.""Sure thing." She said, and tossed you one of the crystals. You almost drop it, but then grip it tightly. Then you close your eyes. . .It reminds you of an enchanted object, but the enchantment isn't telling the item to do anything. It's the. . bare bones of an enchanted item, as far as you can tell. But your ability is the least scholarly of magic powers, so you can't tell much more about it. However, it isn't hard for you to store energy inside of it."Can you tell me more about these?""Well, I already said that Eidolon made them a few hundred years ago, and some of our spellcasters learned to make them too. Then the non-spellcasters can use them, and carve new instructions on them if they know how." She grinned. "Like me, for example."
>>19348742"But how? It's strange, it's like there's already an enchantment upon it, in limbo. It is inert, but not mundane. I'm afraid the only enchantments I've worked were on unmagical objects and improving upon my own, so this is utterly alien to me."
>>19348742We should experiment a bit, see how much magic can be stored in them and for how long we can extend our stamina with their help. Then we should go out and buy some armor pieces, maybe a dress too. Come back, grab a whole bunch of magic crystals, put all of this together cast a spell to sythesyze all of this together into somekind of a battle-dress/powersuit for us. It will greatly enhance our stamina and will give us protection to boost.
rolled 67 = 67>>19348742We need at least two of these gauntlet things. Just the largest crystals for storing our power. Now preset spells.
>>19348798Basically it is like those gauntlet things but for the whole body
"But how? It's strange; it's like there's already an enchantment upon it, in limbo. It is inert, but not mundane." You say. "I'm afraid the only enchantments I've worked were on unmagical objects and improving upon my own, so this is utterly alien to me.""Well. . You'd have to talk to Eidolon about that. But he's dead, so you're shit outta luck. The next best thing, you could talk to some of the crafters. They're the spellcasters who make the things. I'm not sure if they understand it either, though." She shrugged. You channel a portion of your power into the crystal. It instantly turns a deep violet, and the enchantment twists, and adapts to your power. You examine it again, and see that the bare-bones enchantment had changed. . Now it's specialized toward containing and releasing energy. Your muscles ache, as they usually do when you use a significant portion of magic."Oooh." The elf says, her eyes widening. "You didn't carve anything on it, did you?"You notice that Grubwort, Lewin, and Fellwind aren't really that enthused by this riveting discussion- Grubwort is scratching Grayson's head, and Lewin and Fellwind are discussing the wildlife that can be seen down below.
>>19348840>Now it's specialized toward containing and releasing energy. Your muscles ache, as they usually do when you use a significant portion of magic.Try to get the magic out of it and see if our muscles feel better.
>>19348840"I did not carve anything on it, no. It appears the enchantment is sensitive to the application of magic- it appears to have altered itself in response to my test. My apologies, but I am not certain how to undo this... I hope it was not too costly. Perhaps speaking to the crafters would be best, before I attempt anything further."
You breathe deeply, and draw the magic out of the crystal. Violet sparks shoot up your arm, and your aching muscles start tingling, almost painfully so.Kiyara, not seeming to understand the concept of personal space, tugs the crystal out of your hand, and examines it closely with some of her tools. Then she turns to you. "When I get the power source crystal carved, can you do that to it?"
>>19348879"Maybe. My body already aches from this little crystal, though. I'm not sure if I could channel enough raw power to get the same reaction out of a larger battery crystal."
rolled 87 = 87>>19348897We were drawing the magic out of the crystal, I believe.
>>19348879Wait, what happen?Dud we get magical stamina back or not?
"Maybe." You say, as the tingling slows. It seemed that you got the energy back... Most of it, at least. "My body already aches from this little crystal, though. I'm not sure if I could channel enough raw power to get the same reaction out of a larger battery crystal.""Then I'll just have to let you have a few of these smaller ones so you can store enough power." She said, tossing the dark crystal back to you. "Whatever you did, you got rid of most of the crystal's enchantment, and specialized the rest. That kind of thing would be invaluable to me. So, anyway, down to business." She said. "You need a tour guide, or what?"
>>19348953"sure!"
>>19348953"That would be most appreciated. It seems that there is quite a bit to learn here; I am inclined to stay for some time while learning more about your magical methods and, perhaps, how to best make use of them on my own."
"Certainly." You say. "That would be most appreciated.""Alright then." She said, leading you down some of the spire's stairs. "You should know that there are three different types of. . nobility, I guess, for our people. The Keepers guard our bodies with spear and javelin. The Crafters build the spires, upkeep the weave, and use powerful spells to protect their creations. Finally, the council. They vote on new policies, what feykind does as a whole, when we go to war, and when to bring new elves into their ranks. My dad was all three, while I'm none of them."The inside of the spire is cramped, and it seems like it's mostly storage space for the elves- orichalum is kept there, as are spare crystals, dry food. . ."Only 'nobility' lives up here on the spires, really." She says. "We have villages down in the fields. They produce our food, mine more bronze, stuff like that. In trade, each citizen gets a bracer with some pre-carved spells- they take power directly from the weave, and they can use it to start fire, move objects about, create shields. . Basic stuff, but pretty useful."
>>19349092"May I inquire as to how costly your orichalcum and crystals are, and where they may be purchased? I would like to acquire some for purposes of experimentation, and hesitate to impose upon your kindness any further."
"Near the top is the prism itself." She says. "It's a massive carved crystal, but it doesn't actually store anything. It just sends energy to the other prisms. The other ones send it back, keeping up kind of a giant. . leyline, I suppose you could say, a constant circuit of arcane power. It's what we use to travel, heal our sick. . You could fly across to the other side of the elven lands in a single day, if you wanted.""May I inquire as to how costly your orichalum and crystals are, and where they may be purchased?""Well. . we don't really let men or orcs get their hands on it most of the time. But. . I do have a few connections with the crafters, and I could hook you up. The only problem is that the crafters I know are on the southernmost prism, and we're all the way on the northern side. And my airship refuses to work." She said, kicking the ground.
>>19349179Well, if we were to make a few more of those crystals that store energy, and take the energy out of each one, we could probably make two more or so before we pass out. Then the next day, we could possibly store excess energy in the storage crystals, and hopefully she would have the battery crystal ready. THEN we could make the actual storage/battery crystal for the ship.
>>19349179"Well. I guess I could try my hand at making a bunch of little crystal sub-batteries, to shore up the problems with the stubborn large one. And we'll see if that works. I don't think it'd really function for long, it'd be like the magical equivalent of a patch in a sock, but..."
"Well. . If I make a few more of the crystals that store energy, then store it all and rest, I can probably gather enough energy to create the power source." You say. She looks at you closely. . "Okay, let's do that. Back to the balcony!"The five of you end up back on her balcony, as you hold two more 'standard' crystals in your hands. You close your eyes, and bring your magic forth. . and the crystals turn from light blue to dark violet, and the world swims. You set them down, and take a seat, resting."You have a lot of power for such a tiny girl." The elf says."She's the same height as you are." Grubwort says, and Kiyara glares at him."I'm an elf. We're all short."
>>19349300>>19349300If we're going to be at this for a while; I think we should let our followers some free time to shop or look around. We don't want to bore them while we do this magic stuff.Although keep Grayson here. We are pretty vulnerable when our magic is drained.
Say, would improving our physical fitness help with the effects using our magic has on our body?
>>19349387>Nope; magical stamina is a metaphysical stat, and thus not related to your body."So." She says, rubbing her translucent hands together- you notice that her fingers have an extra knuckle- "Now, you sit there and take a breather, while I carve.""We're going to be at this for awhile." You tell your retainers. "You can all have some free time to shop or look around- I don't want to bore you while I do this magic stuff.""I should see to my crew." Grubwort said, and waved, going down the stairs of the spire. Lewin and Fellwind nod. "We're going hunting." Lewin says."So, what're their stories?" Kiyara asks. "In fact, what's your story?"
>>19349431"I am exploring the world, primarily. It's amazing how much is out there. You would have to inquire with them as to their reasons for accompanying me."
Their stories are theirs to tell, However I can tell you how I met them on the other hand... I met Grayson first and in process of befriending him Lewin and Fellwind came along and thought to defend me against the feroucious beast... he had berry juice on his muzzle you see. Grubwort was asked to join me by his King and Queen after I helped defeat and Ancient Troll and uncovered something nefarious that they thought I could use help with. As for my own story I come from a far off land that I cannot return too. I.. left... everyone behind. But I am glad to find such good friends here and I hope to count you among them!
"Their stories are theirs to tell." You say. "I can tell you how I met them, on the other hand. I met Grayson first, and in the process of befriending him, Lewin and Fellwind came along to defend me against such a ferocious beast. . .He had berry juice on his muzzle, you see." You shrug. "Grubwort was asked to join my by his king and queen after I helped defeat an ancient troll. .""And your story?""As for my own. . I come from a far off land that I cannot return to. I.. left everyone behind."You were going to say something else, you planned to say something after that, but. . you just freeze. You cannot return . . You shake yourself out of it."But I'm glad to find such good friends here, and I hope to count you among them!" You finish."Good, you better count me among them." She said.
rolled 24 = 24Poor girl is going to break down one of these days... Smile at her, thank her then continue on with the magicks!
>>19349728Such is life when you bottle all that shit up to the point where barely even Greyskin could tell something was odd.
"There." She said, finishing up her carving job on the crystal. It hummed, lightly, and you could feel it connect to the magic permeating the air. "Now you just need to rest up and use those crystals, right? Then I can work on the airship. . " She peeked over the balcony. . .Then came back. "Fuck. The airship's tip is all smashed up. I mean, by this point it's already more magic than wood, but this will set us back another few days. . .Unless. . Didn't you come here on a boat?"She gives you a big grin.
>>19349781"You'll need to speak to her captain."
>>19349781"You'll have to check with Grubwort if you want to do anything to his ship."
We need to figure out how to draw magic from the Weave. With that kind of power we could do anything! Even patch holes in ships!
"You'll need to check with Grubwort if you want to do anything to his ship." You say. "When I enchanted it he was. . .fairly angry.""I'll have to do that." She said. "But since it's a ship first of all, it should have sails. . which means we waste less magic power on pushing the thing forward. ." She wanders down the stairs, leaving you and Grayson alone on the balcony.
>>19349781You probably would want to look elsewhere for repairs. Grubwort would not be terribly accommodating with respect to his ship
>>19349961Contact Grubwort via rings, tell him the elf wants to speak with him.
<Grubwort. . the elf wants to speak to you. I think she's going down to your ship now.><Sure thing. Let's see what this is about.> Grubwort responds. You peek out the edge of the balcony, down at the port, and see Grubwort on the ship, Kiyara approaching him.>Roll 1d100>Taking first roll only
Nope, not me. Someone else be that asshole.
rolled 50 = 50>>19350007TOTALLY ROLLING FOR AWESOME SKYSHIP PIRATE ADVENTURES
>>19350024that was surprisingly average.......
>>19350024Oh boy! A completely average success of a roll! MOST EXCELLENT. JUST BARELY WORKED. OR AT LEAST HE ISN'T SERIOUSLY ANGRY AT THE IDEA.
>>19350024Wow, just perfectly neutral for the roll.
You watch the two talk for a few moments, and then she nods, turns right around, and runs back toward the spire."It's a plan." She says, skidding onto the balcony. She grabs her orachalum gauntlet, and starts throwing tools and devices into a chest. "Of course, I need to make sure it stays seaworthy when out of power, and I have to remember that it's his ship first of all. . but soon, SOON, this ship will be able to soar the seas or skies without issue! Plus, having the crew for extra hands should speed things up."She tried to lift a crate, but it slipped out of her hands. "Damnit. Hey, can your furred friend help me carry this?" She asked, looking to the bear. "Wait, he doesn't have any fingers, does he. . Oh my god those are claws why did I not notice them before they are very large."
>>19350091"Oh. Yes. Well. He's still a bear, after all. But he is a very nice, very smart bear. Aren't you, Grayson?"
>>19350091Hmmm, I guess it was more of a, don't mess with anything unless you ask first, kind of disapproval about his ship. Other than that he seems to not mind as long as it will benefit it?
"Oh. Yes. Well. . He's still a bear, after all." You say. "But he is a very nice, very smart bear. Aren't you, Grayson?"Grayson nudges you with his nose."What's a bear?" Kiyara asks.
rolled 7 = 7>>19350091just whatever you do, don't take off his hat.don't explain why under any circumstances...
>>19350134"You don't know what a bear is? I see. Grayson is a bear. Most bears are not this well-behaved, because most bears are wild animals. And most do not wear hats. Grayson is Grayson, though. And he's special."We shall then hug his fluffiness for emphasis.
>>19350134"You don't know what a bear is? That's terrible! You simply must travel more and see the world."Bears are... well, what Grayson is, but for the most part they are less clever and generally less friendly. They live in forests, generally."
"You don't know what a bear is? I see. Grayson is a bear. Most bears are not this well-behaved, because most bears are wild animals. And most do not wear hats. Grayson is Grayson, though. And he's special."You hug Grayson tightly, and he leans into you."Also, under no circumstances, do not remove his hat.""Uh. . As you say. What, does he go wild if you do?"Grayson harrumphs at her.". . What does that mean. Is- Is he talking to me? What did he say?"
>>19350134Oh.... explain the thing with the hat to her.
>>19350202Smile gently. "Can't you guess? I find Grayson quite eloquent if you take him on his own terms."
rolled 28 = 28>>19350202you mean you didn't understand him???that was the vocal equivalent of a shrug obviously.but back to the task at hand. surely you have the plans of gruborts vessel so you know what is there to moddify. and surely you need some time to make your plans.I feel like going for a walk; perhaps if you give me a couple of blank crystals I could charge them as I stroll along.
rolled 41 = 41>>19350233grubworts vessel >damn my lack of sleep...
>>19350233Stop pushing to use so much magic. We need time to recover. It's not good to constantly push ourselves so hard we pass out.
rolled 25 = 25>>19350244thats the first time I've mentioned magic in this thread...and I meant that as in should we feel sufficiently recovered on the stroll we could pour a little power into a crystal.
You smile gently. "Can't you guess?" You say, "I find Grayson quite eloquent if you take him on his own terms.""I'm, uh, not good with animals." Kiyara said. "Like, really, really, not good. I had a bird once. It didn't end well.""Back to the task at hand." You say."You're right. I just need my tools, and then the orichalum." She said. "And I can get to work."She lifted up one of the two chests, and starts lugging it down the stairs- she was much stronger than her size would imply.
rolled 4 = 4>>19350372well don't just stand there, lets go grayson lets go down and see whats going on...<<((did we get that saddle for him?))>>
rolled 52 = 52>>19350372Levitate the other chest onto Grayson's back and have him take it down for her.
>>19350420Yep, So saddle up and go down and see what is going on.
>>19350372"Do you need assistance carrying things around? I doubt Grayson or I could help much, but perhaps one of the ship's crew...? At least one of them might be curious enough to help."
>>19350420>Not only did you get the saddle, you also got him a bunch of saddlebags, and places to strap equipment if you need him to carry them for you. He doesn't seem to mind. You lift the second chest, using the dregs of your remaining magic to assist you, and you put it on Grayson's back."Let's go down and see what's going on." You say, following Kiyara."So, what do you need us to do?" Grubwort asks the elven woman, as the crew stands around."Well. . I need that crashed airship stripped- those have the levitation crystals I need for the stern and the bow. I have a ton of shield keystones here, and enough orichalum cable for the entire thing."Kiyara started directing the crew to tear parts out of the ship.Lewin and Fellwind both arrive, the corpses of two large, flightless birds draped over their shoulders."It sucks." Lewin's telling Fellwind. "These things' feathers are way too soft for fletchery.""Just make them into pillows, then." Fellwind responds. "I'm sure the Lady would like that- she seems used to opulence like that."
rolled 3 = 3>>19350505you say that as if it were a bad thing...excuse me, but a thought strikes me; Kiyara, do you have a piece of solid orchalicum left to spare? about an inch in diameter, and a foot long? three might be better.
>>19350505"Fellwind, Lewin, welcome back. Your hunting was successful, I take it?"
"You say that as if it were a bad thing." You say. "Fellwind, Lewin, welcome back. Your hunting was successful, I take it?""No way." Grubwort says sarcastically. "They always slung those dead birds over their shoulders. You didn't notice them before?""Aye, Lady." Lewin responded. "We'll have to strip these, but we should have a bit of fresh meat- something I've been dying for since we started the trip. Say. . what's the crew doing to Grubwort's ship?""Upgrading it!" Kiyara said. "Well, preparing it so I can upgrade it.""Excuse me," You say, "But a thought strikes me; Kiyara, do you have a piece of solid orichalum left to spare? About an inch in diameter, and a foot long?""I do, but. . " She frowned. "What for?"
rolled 39 = 39I wish to examine it and perhaps to use it I'll know more after I've seen.grubwort do you have a spare shortspear I could have?
>>19350636"I've been considering further matters of enchantment, and I have a few ideas I'd like to try. If it's in any way inconvenient for you, you certainly don't need to feel pressured to give me anything, and I would not need it immediately in any case."Not really down with enchanting tons of more stuff today anyway, considering how low on magic we are. Let's just explore the city a bit and enjoy ourselves without losing further magic today.
rolled 54 = 54>>19350636query on orchalicum.can it be enchanted or does it only conduct magic?if it can be enchanted is it easier?can it be used to focus magic in the manner of an optic lense?is it soft like lead or hard like steel?finally if all else is provable can we make an immoveable rod out of it?
rolled 82 = 82>>19350725either not right now, never, or I just accidentally killed the lady...
metamagic rod anyone
"I've been considering further matters of enchantment, and I have a few ideas I'd like to try." You say."Hmm. . Okay." She said, tossing you the small rod.". . Can it be enchanted, or does it only conduct magic?""It can be enchanted, of course; that's how most of my tools work." She said."Is it soft like lead, or hard like steel?""It's soft, really soft. It makes horrible weapons." She said.
>>19350879"How do you draw power from the Weave?"
>>19350879It wouldn't make such a horrible weapon if we turned it into diamonds.
>>19350952But then it would be magic diamonds and not orchalicum.
"How do you draw power from the Weave?" You ask."Well. . . There are specific crystals that are keyed to it, but it's illegal to draw too much energy from the weave; the crafters are pretty uptight about it.""I'm sure it wouldn't make such a horrible weapon if we turned it into diamonds." You say."What do you mean by that?" She asks. "If you alchemize it, it wouldn't be orichalum anymore."
rolled 37 = 37>>19350952your rod is now ONE BAJILLION DIAMONDS.but then it wouldn't be orchalicum. I wonder if it could be used for an enchanted tool.again, the immoveable rod, blasting rod, dowsing/divining rod, sky-hook. or similar object
>>19350980"But if it were an alloy of orichalum and diamonds, what then?"
>>19350980"We could use it as the magical core of a larger item, coating it in something with more beneficial physical properties- such as diamonds- to give it strength. If done right, I think part of the orichalcum's magic could be used to maintain and reinforce the outer shell while still leaving more than enough to create whatever the actually desired effect is.It'll take a fair bit of testing to be sure, though."
"We could use it as the magical core of a larger item, coating it in something with more beneficial physical properties- such as diamonds- to give it strength." You say."Yeah, that's what our keepers' spears are." She responds. You consider trying to enchant this rod. .but you need to save up your magic for now.
>>19351046Well I guess we should help with the boats. Set up the crystals and shit.
"Is there anything I can help with?" You ask."No, Lady." Grubwort says. "We have enough hands, and . . no offense, lady, but you aren't the strongest person in the world." He said. You end up sitting down on Grayson, as Lewin and Fellwind strip their prey and start cooking for the crew as they work on the boat. The keeper shows up and eyes what's going on."Is that wise?" He asked. "Letting Kiyara tinker with your boat? She hasn't been the most. . successful airship crafter. Not since her father died- now she doesn't have a spellcaster to help her."
>>19351169"Thank you for your concern. I hope that with my assistance, Kiyara will experience greater success than she has in the past- and just in case, we will make every attempt to carefully test the system before putting ourselves in a position to crash. Any expert advice would, of course, be welcome."
>>19351169"Not to worry, I'm a proficient spellcaster and I have been doing my best to help her re-engineer her designs. Perhaps a little overengineered, but that shouldn't be a problem."
"Not to worry." You say, giving him a bright smile. "I'm a proficient spellcaster. It shouldn't be a problem.""I see." He said, and nodded. "I should resume my patrol. Good day, lady." The keeper bowed, and then sauntered off."Food's done." Lewin said. The orc crew sauntered off of the ship, Kiyara in tow, and they all sat down to eat."It might take another day or so." Kiyara said. "But I think this one might actually fly! With enough power, that is."
