welp. time for our nightly second thread! haha. you guys out to kill me slowly? 'sok, i think the girlfriend is competing with you though.

Old thread:
++

[x] “That's fine. They asked, and I've got plenty of ammo left. I'm in.”

“They did ask nicely, Ice. And I have plenty of ammo left. And we're radar-clear now. I'm in.” You say.

You can hear the hesitation in Ice's voice when she replies. “Ok, but... come home this time, alright? No trips to the beach.”

You bite back a laugh- it'd be rude to do so, especially since she seems pretty concerned. “I'm sure I'm in good company. And a lot less outnumbered. I”ll bag a few for you.” You say.

You flip over to the Japanese frequency before she responds, though Merlin giggles in the back, still listening to Ice. “This is Spellcaster 3. who do I form up on?”

You're startled by a almost polite knock on your canopy. Outside, a witch in a dark flight suit and a pair of mottled strikers waves. Startled, you return the wave. “It will be interesting,” She says, pulling a way a bit to join a frowning witch. “Flying with the one they call the eagle!”

“You do know they shot me down in that fight, right miss uhh...?” You trail off, at a loss for a name.

“Katsumi. And yes, but still! What a fight! Like the samurai of old! A honorable struggle against too many foes to count! We shall have to talk sometime, when this is over, I should very much like to hear the tale of that!”

“Merlin, you got anything?” You ask, switching to your intercom.

“They're tangled up with the Japanese fighters. I'm sorry frank, I don't think I can separate the tracks enough for an AMRAAM shot.” She says.

“One day, I'm going to just stop carrying these damn things.” You grumble.

They still hold control over large parts of Korea (and considering the way they treated other asians during WWII, it's probably been a very bloody, morally-reprehensible occupation)

Split between a Russian North and a Japanese South?

With the Army GHQ getting a full Yamato broadside and the Navy being less fucktarded, as well as the Martian invasion, I'd imagine the occupation would be still bloody but less morally-reprehensible.
>>

>What would have happened to Korea in this timeline?

Japanese are still occupying it, apparently.

No, the Vietnamese kicked the french out as they did in our timeline.
>>
>>22615615
France got pretty well buttfucked in SWQ canon, so French Indochina has probably followed real life pretty close. Manchuria would probably be Japan's crown jewel in overseas possesions. Coal, iron ore, trace minerals. All of the things that the islands themselves lack.

Yamamoto may have been the better of the two, but don't think that means Imperial Japan would suddenly start respecting those other asians in the 'co-prosperity sphere'.

And, after all, many of the worst atrocities were already well underway when the martians invaded.

I said less morally-reprehensible, not to imply that the occupation would not have been morally reprehensible at all.

Though Unit 731 does tangentially bring up the question of the SS in a post-Hitler Nazi Germany. Could they have separated their elite fighting status from their politics and simply become just another branch of the armed forces after the concentration camps came to light?
>>
>>22615728
My impression was that the reason some of them wound up that bad was because of the US's attitude towards them: Scorn or indifference.

They Fought (some died), suffered and for what? For people to hate them and for the political/ideological pissing contest to be basically lost anyways?

I'm sorry, I don't believe you.

Just because the place got put under slightly more competent management, doesn't mean that the atrocities stopped happening. This wasn't happening just because some asshole at the top was ordering it, it was the result of an entire cultural attitude.
>>
>>22615796
A cultural attitude that was much more at home in the IJA than the IJN. I'm not saying it didn't happen, merely that the Army was much more into it than was the navy (at least at the beginning of the war)

Naval officers were generally viewed as more cosmopolitan IIRC

[x] Follow the witches in, keep their tails clear.

“I'll follow you ladies in.” You say, drifting back. “Wouldn't want anything to happen to our new friends!”

“Indeed.” the other witch says, drily. “Can you keep up with witches, pilot?”

“Hasn't been a problem before.” you say, noting the F-14 model strikers these two have.

The two witches dive in with a skill born of relentless training- but limited practice. You yourself saw it early in the fights out of Elmendorf- and abandoned it just as quickly.

Still, the soviets, now having lost the carrier, it's whole witch compliment, all it's fighters, and both it's escorts, are in no mood for a fight, it seems like. Still, they fight on gamely, costing the Japanese air element a pair of tomcats.

The witches are new, but, critically, not unskilled. Katsumi, using one of Japan's new type 89 rifles, claims a pair of fighters with ease before she's attacked by a Mig from out of the sun.

The mig, diving on her, slings a stream of tracers by her before she turns tail and runs- not calling for help, but defensive, regardless. You're rolling in behind the mig almost without a thought, trusting in Merlin and Katsumi's unnamed compatriot to keep you safe long enough for a shot.

While you're unable to get an agile shot- amazingly enough, given the new guidance package in this version- your twin 25mm Guns have no such trouble, breaking the Mig's back easily, sending it spiraling out of control to crash in the sea far below.

1/2
>>
>>22615954
Pretty sure that was a Russian Assassin.
>>
The remainder of the fight is over almost before you know it. The remaining soviet jets flee the airspace- opening them up for AMRAAM shots that cost them a further four of their number, which you can accept for the expense of the dozen missiles. Should have been more, honestly, but it is what it is, you think.

The Amagi- along with her escorting group and that massive battlewagon- is headed south east, towards Adak. The remaining ships of the Kitty Hawk's battlegroup are steaming at speed to join up with the Japanese fleet.

The two witches circle the carrier as the imperial Japanese navy fighters land aboard their carrier, and Katsumi looks back at you, frowning.

“I think it would be better if we were to land at your island base. It is not to far to make for you, is it?” She says, indicating the crowded deck of the carrier.

“Merlin?” you ask.

“We have enough to make it, but only just.” She says. “Not much wiggle room.”

>>
>>22615896
Given the way the IJA got its shit kicked in every time it met somebody who wasn't either Chinese or poorly trained, armed and motivated colonial troops, I suspect that the Martians took care of pretty much the entire junior officer corps of the pre-war IJA.

The IJN would have been slightly more pragmatic about their atrocities, mainly because they knew just how incredibly dependent they were on other people for their resources. They were still fucktards, of course, but slightly less fucktarded than the IJA.

This also means that Koreans probably were able to gain some vague degree of equality post-war, what with virtually the entire IJA dead fighting Martians in China and the decimation of the Japanese merchant marine leading to millions of deaths from starvation in Japan itself.
>>
>>22615896

“We've got enough fuel to make it, if you ladies are up for the trip.” You say.

As much as you'd like to land on the carrier- and be with the rest of your Squadron again- you just can't square that with putting this still very secret prototype fighter on the deck of an IJN carrier. Allies or no, part of your job is to make sure this thing doesn't fall into anyone else's hands.

The flight back is kind of hairy, but the base, oddly enough, is clear for a change, with no weather. Your wheels kiss ground right as you drop down to less than a hundred pounds of fuel- not a moment too soon, by any means.

The witches land behind you, and are directed into a different hangar, adjacent to yours, but still separate.

Your ground crew helps you deplane- your legs still feel weak after sitting so long, and the withdrawal of the adrenaline has left you feeling completely exhausted. The loss of the crew of the Kitty hawk- 5600 sailors gone, just like that- also weighs heavily upon you, but what could have really done? Maybe going after the dreadnaughts would have helped, but you'll never know.

The two witches greet you outside of the hangar doors, both looking around the base.

“Well,” you say, looking at them. “I'm going to guess neither of you had overnight bags hidden in those strikers?”

They both look at you, and you laugh.

“Well, we've got plenty of spare room up at the house.” You say. “And I don't suppose the Amagi will be in very soon, so we can't just wait for the boss to show up.”

Inside, the place is pretty much like you left it- cleaner than when Maverick and Slider were running amok.

[] “So, we never really did get introduced.”
[] “Kitchen's downstairs, lounge is upstairs. Empty bedrooms to the left. Make yourselves at home.”

And in realpolitik you still call ships belonging to a foreign if seperate power an allied ship, rather than a foreign ship. It's more polite and causes less political incidents.

Besides, Fronk should be more worried about Murphy and Mother Nature right now.

Landing a on a non-US carrier with an experimental craft still so classified WE haven't been told anything other than how to use it? WHAT COULD GO WRONG! Also, I haven't played Ace Combat, but this does not look like a carrier rated plane. Do we even have a landing hook?

[] “We've got enough fuel to make it if you ladies are up for the trip.”

I would like to be with the rest of the 'Jammers, but this is not the place for this bird. As long as we have an escort, we should be alright. We just cleared the only thing keeping the Reds afloat in the region.

You only use that phrasing because you don't wanna piss the other guy off. You still don't TRUST them. We are flying the single most advanced airframe in the world right now. Do you REALLY wanna risk it's specs getting out to even more people, meaning even more potential security risks? Keep in mind that our bird being on the bleeding edge gives us an edge in combat. The moment everyone else starts catching up that edge goes away.

And just as I predicted, we made it home fine.

Huh. Good to know I suppose. The build screamed "land runways only" to me, but I am still trying to come up with a justification for the W wing. Don't get me wrong, it is sexy. Eh, there was probably not a perfect scenario either way (unless we got really creative). Our mission was to take out the carrier. If we had gone for the Dreads first, we probably would have had to use our heavy weapons to take them down. Keep in mind the other fighters AND the Kitty were pounding this thing and it was still in the air. We probably would have gotten it, but then we are left with weaker ordinance needed for the primary target. So we would have saved lives, but may not have been able to take down the carrier. This would have prolonged the war in North America. Here we took down the carrier, but it cost us the Kitty.

Ghost seems to be a fan of sticking us between a rock and a hard place. No one decision is always right. That's my opinion anyway, I am not going to put words in the author's mouth. Some are better, some are worse, some are HUE, but war is messy. We can't always be the hero that saves everyone, as much as we want to be. And the one theme that keeps popping up is that our decision have consequences, regardless of intent.
>>
>>22616660
that's a shift from SWQ where there are ways to take "third options" that have no downsides.

Sort of makes things in 89 look a bit worse at least, suggesting a decay in the stock of man.

While I am a fan of third options, those can and should have consequences as well. If you note too, people are picking the options handed to them by Ghost. If you want a third option you have to write it in and convince enough people or samefag enough to follow you. If you take one of the options the GM gives you you can't complain about where it takes you.

[x] “So, we never really did get introduced.”

“We never really did get introduced.” You say to your two guests. “I'm Lieutenant commander Frank Bishop. Call me Frank. This here.” you say, grabbing Merlin by the shoulders and pulling her from behind you to stand in front of your guests.

“This here is Lieutenant Samantha Wells, callsign Merlin. Say hi, Merlin.” Merlin, for her part, squeaks something unintelligible.

“She's pretty shy, really. Nothing personal, I promise.” You say, as Merlin retreats behind you again.

The older of the two Introduces herself first. “I'm Ogawa- wait, it's family name second, isn't it? First lieutenant Ayumi Ogawa, imperial Japanese navy air forces.”

She looks over at her companion and sighs.

“That is her Imperial Highness, the princess Katsumi.”

You involuntarily stiffen, shocked. Imperial family is a big, BIG deal to the Japanese. Like, you could offend her and cause a major political incident, big.

She sighs. “I really wish you wouldn't do that, Ayumi. Now they're going to be terrified of a misstep. Hardly proper, given their hospitality so far.”

She looks at you. “Really, I do have to be proper in front of the cameras, and at family gatherings. But I much prefer the camaraderie of my squadronmates. Which, right now, consists of little Samantha, you, and Ayumi. Please, for now, at least, don't worry about formality. Now,” she says, smiling. “Where should we sleep?”

“Well, there's a few empty bedrooms on our hall, if you want. We keep the other halls closed up, mostly just so we don't feel like the building is too big for us, you know?” You say, leading them towards your bedroom wing. “Though, fair warning, if you end up staying around us, We’re all kind of crazy.”

“Anyone who earned the nickname 'the eagle' probably would have to be!” Katsumi says, laughing lightly.

You laugh yourself. “A little. The parts of that fight they got on TV didn't show everything- and you can barely see Katya in them. She shot down more of them than I did.”

“And you're too modest about it! Everybody, even admiral Nishizawa said it was an incredible display.” she says. “Face it, Frank- it was amazing.”

“I”ll quit before I seem like I'm being ungrateful.” You say with a smile. “This is our hall. The rooms on the right side are empty, the ones on the left are all ours, except that last one, that's empty too. The end of the hall has the showers and heads. Kitchen's open whenever, same deal with the lounge.”

Both witches nod and select the room closest to the hall door leading to the lounge, while you and merlin head down to your shared room. You're tired enough that you're barely able to drop out of your flight suit before you're asleep on top of the covers, curled into a little ball.

You dream of storms. It's somehow vaguely disturbing.

>>22617161
There's nothing say it isn't, and Sushi appears to be one of two permanent witch characters. Though it's funny how people waifu her when she seems to be Merlin's age.

>>22617183
From what I saw, it was pretty steady progress with only Trude fans slowing it down and once she got put on the bus, BOOM, game over.

>>22617235
The sister's something of a hellspawn, perhaps Jake's in-universe reason for his women issues.
>>
>>22617256

Looks like she has a fair bit of interest.

This is gonna be interesting.
>>
>>22617235
I could have sworn Ghost said Frank was the youngest.
>>
and that's our threads for the night! As always, I appreciate you guys hanging around to participate, and I hope you had fun!

We'll be back next week at our regular time, till then, I"m in the IRC if you need me!
>>
>>22617257
The events that happened after they hooked up does not count. That was Minna being Dom.
>>
>>22617247
>PJ quest
>not exciting
I know this is a joke but shit man, how can you type that with a straight face?
>>22617271
She's a sniper, named her rifle Muramasa, and described Masamune as "a punk". She kinda just comes off as more "adult" than Merlin who is VERY little-sistery.
>>
>>22617256

Shit. I hope the girls are safe and make it home ok.
>>
>>22617271
Really? I remember it being kind of like the Minna fans dragging the rest of the voting base kicking and screaming.

Still not quite right. planefag made his preference clear and put her in the way enough that we couldn't abscond from a scene without tripping over her. Add that, time and give her a scene where we hurt her and it's done.
>>
>>22617309
One may differ on that but I won't go into it.

>>22617321
There's a voting base besides Trude? Then again she was one of the few NOT to get swept aside in said Blitzkrieg.

>>22617343
That's something I suspect but been meaning to look into, as railroading is rather underhanded, more so if it fails to prevent waifufaggotry.
>>
>>22617343
Actually, having spoken with him about it before, he never actually had a preference immediately. It was pretty free. Not his fault that players went after the first thing with a vagina they saw.
>>
>>22617343
Well, can't blame him, since from a narrative standpoint if there had to be a relationship, then Minna just made sense.
>>
>>22617369
More like the first tsundere they saw. (the main thing that irks me so much about it. A Tsundere, really?), though during those times there were more /a/ posters. Even then how strong the push was meant some /tg/ers were retard for tsunderes.
>>
>>22617369
Actually, I think the first thing with a vagina they saw was Yoshika.
>>
>>22617384
>Minna
>Tsundere

That word. I don't think it means what you think it means. Her only problem with loving Young was her lingering guilt and feelings for her dead fiance.
>>
>>22617369
I'm sure he says so, but given that his DnD wizard in Touhoe land had the main character enter into a relationship with a redhead in similar circumstances to MC Young with Minna and I start to suspect otherwise.

Also, >>22617258 and the rest of the responders I'm not bothering to quote, just asked GD and Rex-the-parajumper is the eldest, Frank is the next oldest. Frank is the oldest in the squadron, which is where I was confused.

Thanks Ghostdivision!
>>
>>22617394
Well, she does have the traits of a classic tsundere. As it, dislike at first, but very loving once the last step is taking.
>>
>>22617416
>Keine
>Redhead

Wat.
>>
>>22617416
Huh, wait? Wizardanon enter in a relationship with a white/Silverhead, and the way he and Keine got sweet was pretty fucking different from Young and Minna
>>
>>22617416
What the hell are you talking about? with AWiY the closest thing to a love interest is Keine (sliver/blue haired) and is anything but a tsundere.

Though the Wizard is about as dense as Young is and the odds are Keine going EX and just mounting him are pretty high.
>>
>>22617394
BTW, there is something that I still don't understand. In what way does Young ressemble Kurt greatly? Cause hearing Mio, it was like they were almost the same person, but doing some research shows that Kurt and Young were almost nothing alike.
>>
>>22617430
>>22617441
>>22617465
Not a redhead? Eh, whatever, I gave up trying to keep the Touhous straight about the time I realized there were more than 10 games in the series of which half I was expected to have mastered to be considered competent.

Blame me being too lazy to pull up a wiki.
>>
>>22617465
Is it me or is every MC written by planefag seemingly going to end up being dominated by their love interest?
>>
Rolled 3

>>22617465
wait, ehat happened to mokou in that one?
>>
>>22617487
It's good form to actually know what you're talking about before parading around misinformation like it's fact.
>>
>>22617498
Mokou is Keine's best friend who dislikes Wizard and is frustrated at on stupid and dense he and Keine are being.

Kind of like when Mio burst in Minna's room during her explaination to Young, but she's like that all the time.
>>
>>22617516
It's also generally good form to sleep but you don't see me doing much of that either.

Saging for offtopic.
>>
>>22617487
http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Touhou_Wiki

If you can memorize various witches, then touhous should be no problem.

>>22617492
Who knows though he seems to be a little bit too fond of tropes.

>>22617498
I think she either was dealing with bunnies, investigating the matter her own way or doing her own thing. But >>22617523 sums her up pretty well, just nowhere as batshit as Mio is.
>>
>>22617487
There were pictures of her in the threads. It's doesn't take a Sherlock Holmes to see that she isn't a redhead.
>>
>>22617535
Eh really? To me, he seemed to be more fond a placing a trope in front of us and then twisting it in order to fuck with us.
>>
>>22617523
i now have mental image of Mokou busting into room with Keine and wizard doing the best impression of descartes this side of Gensokyo.
Maybe it's sleep deprivation, but it's fairly amusing.
>>
>>22617540
I wasn't aware it was a thread for months; I read a pasted version. Haven't read the most recent ones either, so I still don't know what she looks like... except that she has silver hair.
>>
>>22617569
Let's see: Hot headed dense hero that in SWQ falls for a redhead tsundere that take a while to get together due to hijinks.

Though his treatment of SW canon isn't as straight forward, less Les Lay, Yoshika being a basic newbie with some talent (I doubt he'd even address the matter of what happened to her father), etc.

Oh god that reader sucker punch he did near christmas. I wonder how many people got shut up about for calling Yoshika a mary sue
>>
>>22617630
>Hot headed dense hero that in SWQ falls for a redhead tsundere that take a while to get together due to hijinks.

Well, when you put it that way.

And can someone please explain to me how Young is supposedly almost a clone of Kurt when they are nothing alike?
>>
>>22617680
I'm not sure if that seriously came up, all I know was that Minna had something of a complex due to losing Kurt that was basically affecting the rest of the unit until Young came breaking it down.

Though he does incidentally do one or two Kurt-like things to my knowledge.
>>
>>22617705
Yeah, well I'm mostly working from what Mio told Young repeatedly. That he's very much like Kurt and that because of that he's really pushing Minna's buttons.
>>
>>22617730
I think it's the whole selflessness in combat bit.
That and possibly the singing?

Really though, it's just how willing he is to throw himself into danger for others in battle, I think. Could be off base though.

Politely saging due to off-topic.
>>
so about that Yandere fic that was promised a week ago?
>>
>>22617747
But that pretty applies to all the pilots in the 501 squadron.
>>
>>22617809
??? There's only one other pilot technicially, Shirley's brother. Ian and Sean are the widow's support crew.
>>
>>22617388
Sanya, actually. Bounced her good in the first thread.
