THE RIDE NEVER ENDS.
That's right, it's Knock-Off Game of Thrones quest, pulling our potential finale session, right here, right now.
You are Lord William Bordain, Lord of Morderengrad and the Norther Valley, Sworn Lord to Jon Arryn, Knower of The Song of Iron, and about as subtle as a nuclear bomb. Known throughout the Seven Kingdoms as the slayer of the Targaryen children during The Sack of King’s Landing, and seen as a dangerous sort because of it. For two years, you brooded in your Castle like Denethor, Steward of Suck, while your populace saw you as a usurper and criminal, and Hill Tribes ravaged your lands. Four months ago, you stood, up, cracked your neck, picked up your Warpick, and started whipping the everloving shit out of your problems.

You tore your loudest detractor’s tongue from his mouth and nailed it to a wall. You beat the head chief of the Hill tribes in single combat, and killed the only one lower chief that disagreed with your rule. You’ve amassed an army of hard-asses, and found out that it’s probably your Southern neighbor who was behind your life sucking for the last two years. And boy is he going to regret that. You also got a girlfriend, and are currently at a big party where you announced your engagement.

One of the knights there disagreed with your marriage. You corrected him. Strenuously. Now you’re bleeding from a wound in your torso, but he’s unconscious. (As a point, you can choose to have MAIMED him with your victory, if you wish.) And your sworn Vassal Luuk just grabbed the guy who paid the Hill tribes to ruin your life. If you weren’t bleeding from a cut chest and quite probably a slew of broken ribs, you’d call today a great success.
>>
It's sad because it ends tomorrow.
>>
go get the Maester
>>
Okay, yeah, lets have maimed that fucker. Let's make it where we fucked up his face so bad he's going to need some kind of prosthetic... whole face.

Other then that, seems like a good time to pass out from blood loss then wake up with the fiancee cooing at us, yeah?
>>
>>23760047
Nah, just give him a nasty scar across the chest maybe?
Something to remember us by.
>>
>>23759967

Well, we did beat the ever loving shit out of his shoulder. Let's go with having maimed the fucker. He scarred us, he gets a free maiming.

But the real question, and most important one of all, is who is the fucker with the purple pin?
>>
>>23760099

We got the scar across our gut. More than likely since we crumpled his shoulders armor, and knocked him out cold with a shoulder smash we probably shattered his collarbone.
>>
IT'S HAPPENING!
You bastard, I'm pulling and all-nighter to follow this, fuck timezones
>>
>>23760148

I just hope that going to bed around 2am again won't kill me with the wife and work. Because damnit, I'm here for the long haul!
>>
>>23760027
You turn to your liege lord. "Lord Arryn, I may have need of your Maester."
He calls out: "Bring me Maester Coleman before Lord Bordain disappoints his new betrothed."

>>23760047
>>23760099
>>23760112

Your final blow maimed the young knight. You may choose an ability that he must reduce by one rank.

What do you do about purple pin at your feet?
>Accuse of crime
>Allow to play out before accusation
>Other
>>
>>23760175
I'm not concerned about ability he has to lose, just the visible fact that he will carry our maiming for life. Which is it's own reward.

Then...

Luuk, you have my eternal thanks for this. You, purple pin, name yourself so that I may denounce your foul deeds and decry you for the rebellious scum that you are.
>>
>>23760175
Play it close to my vest ... but be ready to choke a bitch at a moment's notice.
>>
Rolled 53

>>23760175
no need to take away any of his ability.

Just Maim him in the chest, a scar from him to remember his defeat.
>>
>>23760175
>You may choose an ability that he must reduce by one rank.

Combat or Riding, I say.

>>23760175
>Allow to play out before accusation

It might have been a while since Luuk has last seen the guy, so let's let it all play out before we accuse him of anything.
>>
>>23760175
Combat, definitely combat.
>>
>>23760277
>>23760242
>>23760229
>>23760219
>>23760241

You have broken the knight's collarbone, and left a great scar. He will have to train for quite some time to regain his previous Fighting prowess!

You look down at the man before you. "Sir, it seems my vassal knows you. Please, announce yourself, so that I might know the company he keeps."

The man begins to rise, as Luuk circles to your side.
"I am Ser Ilmond Graf-"
"Lord Benedar Belmore!" The herald cries out.

And for the first time, you lay eyes on Lord Belmore. Lord Belmore is a large man. And by large, I mean fat. But, for his great size, he moves with surprising grace and control. You suspect that this man was once a powerhouse like Robert Baratheon, but has since let himself indulge in the good life of Lordship, and let the years weigh him down. His hair and beard are wild and red, like a great mane surrounding his large face. His clothing is purple, with silver highlights and patterns.

As he enters, he sees you and Luuk standing over the fallen Ser Ilmond, and his eyes light with what seems to be...(roll awareness...failure.) fury.
His voice rings out, deep and piercing, like the bells of his sigil.
"YOU. YOU FOUL SERPENT. I CHARGE YOU WITH INTENT TO WAGE WAR ON A LAWFUL LORD OF THE VALE, CONSPIRACY TO MURDER A LORD OF THE VALE, AND MANNER UNBECOMING A LORD, WILLIAM BORDAIN! MAY LORD ARRYN JUDGE MY SUIT!"

Well, that was a little unexpected.
>>
>>23760241
>>23760219
Yeah I have to agree.
Just some cosmetic damage is sufficient.
>>
>>23760454

Any response to the charges?
>>
>>23760454
>>23760506
>Any response to the charges?

"I disagree."
>>
>>23760454
"Come now, Lord Belmore. Such desperate tactics are only deepening the whole you've dug for yourself."
>>
>>23760454
"You speak loud but that doesn't make your word any truer"
>>
>>23760506
"Manner unbecoming of a lord? A bold claim, especially coming from someone who has funded dissidents and bandits."
>>
>>23760454

Oh this should be good. Pray Lord Belmore, do continue these horrible misdeeds that I have taken against you. Because considering that I have proof of your actions and intent laying here at mine own feet, I charge you with being a lord with no honor or right to the title, a foul thing lower than even the like that the Nights Watch would not take. I declare you a raiser of rebellion, a cur, and thing unfit to appear before his betters.
>>
>>23760542

And that. Most especially that.
>>
>>23760454
>>23760506
"You're quite loud. We can all hear you without you yelling as you hope that bluster overrules truth.

I would say much the same to you Lord Belmore, this man, Ser Ilmond, was part of a effort to destabilize my lands and funded a group that sympathized with the fallen Targaryens.

Tell me Lord Belmore, how do you know this Ser Ilmond?"
>>
>>23760506
"Oh yeah? Well FUCK YOU."
Check and mate.
>>
>>23760617

Oh god, that's the perfect ending to everything we have all said. Throw it all together, and then end it with that.
>>
>>23760617
third

>>23760633
Agreed don't forget the "bandits" that attacked us
>>
>>23760617
While funny, no. We need to approach this correctly, yelling 'Fuck You' won't convince anyone.
>>
>>23760454
"And I will answer your charges in due time, ser. In the meantime I too would like to present charges against Lord Belmore, my liege. Of conspiracy to incite rebellion in the name of the Targaryens and attempted murder of a lord of the vale."
>>
>>23760542
"I DO NOT...I do not need volume to attest to the truth of my words, only the speech of your actions."

>>23760520

"Desperate? And what else am I to be, my lord Bordain, when my lands are taken from me and handed to a murderer of Children, who plots in his dark castle, and then emerges to ally with the very tribes that raided my lands for generations! When that same lord musters an army to rival any in the Vale? When I enter the fete of our liege lord, to find my vassal at your feet?! I will have justice, my lord."

>>23760571
At your accusations, Belmore draws back, seeming...confused. And angry. "You would accuse ME of rebellion? You?!" He turns to Jon Arryn. "My Lord, this is too much! I demand trial. May your wisdom sort which of us lies-" his eyes cut to you. "-and which speaks the truth."

>>23760617
There are some sniggers among the gathered lords and ladies, and a few offended gasps.

Jon Arryn arises.
"ALRIGHT! If my lords can go a span without snapping at each other like untrained dogs?" He eyes the two of your with a raised brow.
When neither of you speak, he continues. "GIven that the fete was not to begin until tomorrow afternoon, we will judge this case in the morning, if that does not displease my lade wife."
Lysa Arryn nods her assent.
"My lords, have you all the evidence you feel you need for the case, or should it be delayed for some element you did not think to bring?"

>Got Everything?
>>
>>23760790
'Tis a pity we did not think to spare the tongue of our prisoner 'til he gave testimony.
>>
>>23760790

Do we have everything? We have purple pin at our feet, we have Luuk, do we have any of the foreign gold with us by chance? Possibly in Grells purse or the like?
>>
>>23760838
We should also send riders to check those bodies for castle forged steel. And perhaps bring some back.
>>
>>23760838
At present, I believe Grell is in your lands, whistling cheerfully as he erects scarecrows of the men he slaughtered along your border.

That seemed to be what you wanted.

You did not mention bringing the gold, so in my opinion, you have none.

Now, you could spend one of your 3 remaining destiny points to add the "small detail" that you did.
>>
>>23760790
Nope. Still need to grab the coins and the rabble rouser.
>>
>>23760790
We have his vassal, which is good, but might not be enough.

We have the purple pin, but still not enough.

If we have the gold he used to pay people that'd be nice.

We have testimony of the bandit attack waiting in Belmore's land for us, which while it isn't enough it's not bad.

Luuk has been an utter gentleman during this visit, more or less, so that's in our favor. We're going to want to spend the rest of the night having him ingratiate himself with everyone so they believe him.

>>23760882
I think it's worth spending one to make sure we have the gold, it's not quite a smoking gun, but it's better than not having it.
>>
>>23760838
We really need to understand where the gold is coming from.
It seems the guy is either a good actor or he knew nothing about what was going on and there is another player in this.
>>
>>23760886
>>23760832

The tongueless Rabble Rouser on the wall, who told us that he did not know his employer, and then we tore out his tongue?

I doubt he would be a help in this trial.
>>
>>23760925
Didn't he tell us about the pin, or am I misremembering?
>>
>>23760954

That was Luuk or Tor.
>>
>>23760902
Having the gold isn't a really huge deal; he might have none on him and then it is essentially our word against his.

Having the pin is much better in my opinion.
>>
>>23760882

We have no Grell, who is what 4 hours away? Three of our personal guard need to summon him, some of the weapons of the bandits, and some of that gold. And by god, we need this done as fast as possible. I would say that we send the three men out as fast as possible, and have them here as soon as possible if the time is feasable. If it's not, then time to use a destiny to have some of those bandit weapons and some of the gold here with us.

Also we need to have Lord Arryn place the man at our feet under guard, sequestered from anyone who would be able to get to him, speak to him, kill him, or smuggle him out.
>>
>>23760993

And ditto the pin. Yeah, the pin.

>>
>>23760954
Tor told you about the pin, hence why Luuk is the guy who grabbed him from the crowd.

You could bring Tor, I suppose. He is technically a better legal source than Luuk.

Also, guys, I'm going to have to work for a bit at 6:45. Hopefully only like, 30-45 minutes. So I wou

>>23760993
It's a half day's ride to climb the Giant's lance, and Grell is 75 miles beyond that.

If you sent men out at a dead gallop, willing to kill the horses they rode, he could be here by...tomorrow night, potentially the next morning if they left now.

>>23761015
>>23760992
You have no pin. Only the report of a pin.

Hell no it's not a good situation to be in. However we still have to have that proof. Fuck it, I say we send people willing to kill horses, and get Grell, the gold, Tor, the bandits weapons, any any other proof we may have access to.

Ask the time from Lord Arryn, use the fact that our wound needs to knit a bit before this goes down. And insist that the guy at our feet goes into a cell, and NOT a sky cell at that.
>>
>>23761210
second we need time.
>>
>>23761147

You turn to Jon Arryn.
"My lord, I have evidence and witnesses in my lands that I can have here by the morn after the fete. However, I suspect this man" you point at Ser Ilmond. "to play an important role in my case. Therefore I ask that he be sequestered under your guard until the time of the trial, without visitors."
Jon Arryn thinks, and then nods. Belmore begins to object, but is silenced by Jon Arryn.
"NO visitors, from Belmore, Bordain, or any other house."
"Then tomorrow we will celebrate my new marriage, and Lord Bordain's betrothal. And following that, we may execute him."

He looks at Alyssa for a moment. "My dear, you must be quite a gem that men risk so much for your hand."
"For now, to your chambers, and let us speak no more of this."

You are given the evening to talk with your party of your needs and tactics for the case.

When I return I hope to see:
-A list of the things your want from your lands
-Some roleplay regarding how you spend the night, what you talk about
-A general plan for the coming trial.

Be back as soon as I can.
>>
Rolled 2, 3, 5 = 10

>>23761100

As for this, i would say yes to spend a Destiny Point for the Coin.

As for how we should approach this is simple in my opinion. We start by saying what happened with the guy we fought in the town, followed by the group we captured, we say what their leader told us, of the man with the purple pin and coin. We remark that while simple its rather doubtful that Luuk would choose the wrong man and risk our anger, smile scarily.. After that we point out that even after all that we would not accuse a fellow Lord, but then on our ride here WITH OUR BETROTHED our men found dozens of remarkably well equipped bandits in such number that would leave nary a doubt in the right thinking mind of any Lord.

And then this? Pitiful excuse of a Lord accuses us? Of Dark Plots? We who have always faithfully served our Lords. Of allying with the tribes? Whom we showed we are not a week man, and with Iron at our core made him think that better to follow him than die by my blade? Of mustering an army to rivel any of the Vale? How amusing, is it not the duty of a Lord to procted his land? And tell me oh weak fool, do you know where the Legions of men of the tribes are? Spread across my land farming, leaving behind their blades. Is that how i build an army so massive it would threaten all?

How sad and worthy of contempt.
>>
Rolled 1, 6, 4 = 11

>>23761254

I'll work backwards and go with possible planning for the trial.

Step 1, present evidence from Luuk, Tor, Grell's swords, and then the gold. Present the fact that these bandits have plagued our lands and shipments, robbing our wealth specifically so that the former lord could try regaining his lands. Lands which he had to fight the hill tribes in, where we now have peace and prosperity because we were willing to listen, and not simply charge in like a bull.

Put the knight to the question, presented finally after Luuk, and Tor, and get him to explain himself. If he refuses, then use that to cast more doubt on Belmore.

And finally, and most importantly, if this all goes to shit? Demand trial by combat.
>>
>>23761254
Since it seems like part of this trial will be a matter of reputation, and we need all the help we can get, tell Alyssa that we're very sorry to ask this of her, but could she please tell Lord Arryn that she's the one who spread that false rumor and we didn't really wed her by force?
>>
>>23761329
Yeah I'd say we might need that Destiny Point for the gold.
>>
Rolled 6, 6, 2 = 14

>>23761329
>>23761350

Combine those two and we have a very potent court debate for our case.
>>
>>23761352
Good thinking, there.
>>
Rolled 6, 6, 1 = 13

>>23761329

Also, if he mentions our standing forces, then perhaps a bit of a good idea is to mention the fact that we are taming a wild land, that previous lords left untouched, and the fact that there are obvious enemies in our own land that we have to defend ourselves and our own against, and ask how he knows that we have these forces, unless he wishes to acknowledge having spies in our lands, and if he has spies in our lands, why does he have such?
>>
Rolled 5, 5, 1 = 11

>>23761352
Man, hiring that minstrel to help improve our reputation and spread the word of our extended dominion over the Hill Tribes may really pay off here.
>>
>>23761477

Did we ever tell him about the purple badge?
>>
>>23761254
For how we spend the night, I'd say there would be a pretty big focus on not bleeding to death and minimizing infection.
Hopefully the fact that we were clearly not fighting to kill our opponent when he seemed to have no such restraint will also make us look better.
>>
Rolled 3, 5, 4 = 12

>>23761617

Agreed. No milk of the poppy from the maester. We need to heal and heal quickly. If this goes south, we need ourselves prepared for a fight to the death, followed by a possible hard fight to get loose if it goes even worse.

We need to tell our future father in law of our plans, and we need to see if he will gather any allies he has at this court to stand with us. Promise anything within reason, arming them at either a huge discount, or at cut rates that will hurt us in the short term but help in the long. Promises/treaties of aid, anything we can do to gather support, even if it's from those who are all smaller lords or those looked down upon, any support will be welcome for this.

In short, we spend the night healing and plotting like a mother fucker.
>>
>>23761595
Not sure.

I think we have to have a plan for if the unthinkable happens and we lose the trial completely. Suggestions?
>>
>>23761238
>>23761329
>>23761350
I feel that we're all getting ahead of ourselves.

He's accused us of intent to wage war, conspiracy to murder and manner unbecoming. We don't really need to prove that he is guilty, merely that we are innocent.

The only evidence he has against us are
>>We have a large army
>>We've allied with the hill tribes
Neither of those is evidence for anything. We can start off with the lawlessness our lands were blighted with. Explain how we had to forge a strong army to control this. Furthermore we gained our lordship through war, through fighting to secure the throne for the ward of our sworn lord. Is it not natural that a man who has seen the horrors of war so intimately would want a strong army to ensure it never reached his own lands?
Then lead on to the heroic, epic tale of how we defeated the tribesmen. Say we didn't plan to ally with the tribes, we merely fought their leaders in single combat to spare the lives of our men. How could we know that in the customs of the hill tribes this would make us their leader? Perhaps if Lord Belmore had the courage to take a more personal approach to defending his lands and his people then he would have solved this problem long ago.
Conduct unbecoming? Surely it would be more unbecoming to let the smallfolk and soldiers sworn to me die, while I grow fat in the feasthall of my castle? I have seen the horrors of war *maybe lead onto a chilling aside about said horrors* and I could not stand aside while my people, the people I had sworn to protect, suffered. That is the the reason for my army. That is the reason I have convinced the hill tribes to lay down their weapons. All these things I have done for peace!
>>
>>23761754
Trial by Combat, and this time have no choice but to fight for keeps.
>>
>>23761775
I think we might do well to portray ourselves as a man who had grown weary of bloodshed.
That's why we strive to make sure all our soldiers are as well trained and equipped as possible, and that's why we extended the branch of peace to the Painted Dogs, instead of going to war.
>>
>>23761793
as a lord it is within our right to name a champion perhaps have rogar come along as well. that way if it comes to trial by combat we name him our champion.
>>
>>23761775
I think we're all working under the assumption here that he has some false 'evidence' against us beyond the two you pointed out, which he will try and con our fellow Lords into believing.
>>
Rolled 5, 2, 1 = 8

>>23761857

Having Rogar along wouldn't hurt, that is utterly true.

>>23761775

Agreed, defending his charges is easy enough with that. Levelling our own is what I was doing.
>>
>>23761858
So we've got to wheel and deal and try and sway them to our side, perhaps with the hope of our soon-to-be father-in-law?
He seems to be a just person underneath the eccentricity.
>>
>>23761775
Now it's entirely possible someone is playing both of us. Belmore seemed confused by our accusations and he has accused us. That means either he's manufactured evidence and is a good actor or that somebody has framed us. It's been mentioned before that the Belmore's are being too obvious with their plot against us (why would their secret agent meet Tor without removing their very very obvious purple pin?). I feel we should be aware that there may be a third party.

After we've established our innocence (maybe use Alyssa's father to help by testifying how peaceful the former hill tribe lands were) we move on to accusing Belmore but unfortunately we don't have much evidence against him.
>>Mysterious foreign coins
Why would Belmore, a Westeros lord pay with foreign coins? Where would he get them? How is this evidence?
>>Testimony of a purple pin
Anyone could buy a purple pin and we only have hill tribesman testimony, that's pretty much as useless a testimony as you can get.
>>A large bandit attack when travelling through his lands
All that proves is that Belmore isn't very good at enforcing order. Now if the bandits have castleforged steel forged by Belmore's smith that would actually be evidence.

All we have for Belmore is motive and that's something we can definately play on, implying that his discontent with our new lordship shows his disrespect for Lord Arryns judgement.
>>
>>23761886
Do we have enough proof?
Like we have one person a hill tribesman identified, some strangely marked gold, and a bunch of suspicious 'bandits' Grell and his men killed.
All in all, that's not a lot of evidence, unless Ser Ilmond cracks like an egg.
>>
Alright, I'm back, let me read over the posts I missed, and I'll jump back in.
>>
>>23761965
Yeah it might be that Ilmore is working for a third party, which means that it is crucial that he doesn't die mysteriously in the night.
>>
Rolled 5, 1, 5 = 11

Perhaps we shouldn't directly accuse him, merely imply it whilst focusing on his vassal.
>>
>>23762138
Too late
>>
I wish we had the time to let Grell talk to this ilmore fellow.
>>
>>23762163

Oh, he was the one that first started to accuse us, so fuck him.
>>
>>23762197
I'm pretty sure that would be super not allowed.
>>
Actually him accusing us in such a manner should help our case. After all shortly before we could question his vassal he comes barging in accusing us of everything and the kitchen sink, that there is just makes him look guilty as fuck.

Especially after we give all the circumstantial evidence we have.
>>
You send your riders. Three of your swiftest riders from your Bloodsmiths to make it to Morderengrad as swift as they could. A raven was sent ahead to muster the needed goods as swiftly as possible, and Rogar if they can find him.

>>23761352
You approach Alyssa that evening, after having your wound bound by Maester Coleman, and your messengers sent.
You come to her chambers, and knock upon the door. It opens, and she is there. She is clearly concerned, and her first action is to touch your chest in the region of the wound.
"Is it grave?" She asks, hesitantly.
"I will live. Presuming Arryn tries me well. Which is why I have come. I would not wish the man who sits in judgment over me to think me the sort to force a woman's hand. Your game can be our secret, but please let him know you are not my betrothed by force."
She runs her hand along the wrapping, at one point drawing a grunt of pain from you. She looks up, some sadness in her eyes.
"I have hurt you enough for one day. I will see if he is still awake." And with that, she departs to speak to your liege.

The next day, you cannot help but feel you, or rather, Belmore, has wronged Lady Lysa. The fete is clearly laboring under the cloud of the coming trial. The talk is muted and people quiet whenever you approach them. However, the food is delicious. You sample a wild mushroom and goat cheese tart, it is rich and earthy, and the crust sturdily formed; a simple crab risotto, with fresh crab from the Fingers, and a dusting of tarragon and chives; Whitefish, poached in a fiery tomato sauce, with flatbread; and a platter of anchovies, marinated in garlic oil and lemon juice, with cheese and bread

In a strategic sense, it is probably unwise to anger your Lord's wife the day before a trial.
Ideas to enliven the fete?

Yeah I mean, who does that?
That doesn't seem like proper decorum at all.

Well, if we had any singing ability, we could sing either the Rains of Castamere, or we could sing that fucking bear song.

Both of those would go over poorly. However, let's introduce something unique and new.

"Luuk, do you know any songs which would not offend these lords and ladies from your people? If so, and if you can sing worth a shit, now would be a grand time to sing it."

You turn to Luuk. He has foregone the warpaint and shaman-chic to instead wear a white shirt with a black waist coast, an outfit which implies your house colors, without being them and accentuates his long frame. His pants are similarly black. His hair is still in beaded strands.
"Do you have anything that can enliven this?" you ask him. He thinks for a bit, brightens, nods, and walks away. Leaving you with the impression you may have made an error.

You spend a moment wondering how many ways you can be executed, when a sudden "yip yip YIP!" draws your attention.

You turn, already afraid, as do several other lords. There's Luuk. And there is...like, 6 knives. You are no longer afraid. You are certain you are going to die. He picks up one of the knives, points it at you, and...
throws it up into the air. It spins as it flies, and he catches it with his other hand, twirls it once, twice, three times, and with a snap of his wrist, tosses it back to his first hand. He flips the blade, flips it again, taps it on the table top, and throws it up into the air again.
As the knife is in the air, he picks up a second, flips it, flips it, taps it twice on the table, and then tosses it into the air. While it's in the air, he stomps, claps, and as he catches the first knife, he stomps again. twirl twirl, snap over, catch, clap the blades together, tap once, throw, snap, tap twice, throw. Pick up, flip flip, three taps, throw, stomp clap catch twirl snap catch stomp tap toss snap tap tap catch stomp toss snap...
It's...like a one-man dance, just Luuk and the knives. And then he one-ups it. He begins to whistle while he does it. His voice adding notes and melody, his stomps, taps, and claps adding rhythm and percussion. After about 5 minutes, where he clearly changes songs half-way, he one by one retires the blades. In the order he used them. First one, then two, then three.

When all six knives are on the table, he bows slightly, and turns to a young lady.

"May Luuk dance with you?"

The woman, who had been watching his actions, her cheeks slowly coloring at the fluid grace he used, nods in a daze.
Luuk nods to the band, and they strike up a jaunty tune, and he spins her away, to presumably outdance every lord in the Vale.

"The answer to this question is much the same as if you asked if all knights were like Barristan the Bold. He is a splendid example of his people, but not all of them live up to his example.

On the whole I quite like the Painted Dogs, they are clever, loyal, and they consider action to hold much greater weight than any pretty words, all qualities I respect. I was not given their loyalty, I won it, and as such I can trust them. There are those like Luuk, as well as great warriors and men of wisdom and wit to rival a Maester, though perhaps not quite as well educated, among them. On the whole they are the same as other men, there are those who are good, some who are bad, some who are great and some who dull, and most lie somewhere in the middle."

He nods his head.
"I entertained a bard in my keep a month or so back, and among the many tales he told, he had one of you and your sudden blaze of activity in the last few months. Most were won from negotiations or strength of arms.

"Well, not quite, but it's closer to true than some might think. I had to prove myself as a leader to the tribes, they do not follow because of who your father is or what titles you possess.

Some of the challenges were martial, some mystical, others tests of cunning and wit, and others diplomatic.

All of their leaders bent the knee to me and I consider their loyalty assured beyond doubt."

Corbray nods. "That's what I had guessed, reading between the lines of the tale. In any case, you're a much better man than I thought you to be."

He claps you on the shoulder, and departs.

The embargo being broken, a few other lords and ladies speak with you over the course of the day. You make a fantastic showing, given your wounded state, the scandal, and your reputation.

The next day dawns bright and cool in the height of the Eyrie. If things go poorly, this could be your last day on Earth. You do not think it likely, but then, you doubt many you've killed thought it likely the morning of their death.
Death always seems distant, until it seems inevitable.

You break your fast on haddock and soft-boiled eggs, diced and tossed in a rice pilaf, don one of your better doublets and waistcoats, and descend to the throne room.

You arrive before many of the spectating lords, though not before Benedar Belmore. He stands on the right side of the chamber, so you stand upon the left.

As you stand, Grell, Tor, Luuk, the Tolletts, all enter the room, and take positions behind you. Lord Corbray takes a position behind you, which draws color to the cheeks of Benedar, and murmurs from the great Chamber.

Jon Arryn rises, and raises his hand for silence. His septon steps forward, and offers a prayer to the Seven, that they watch over these proceedings, and help us winnow truth from lie. He then proceeds to Lord Benedar, and asks him if he swears to speak the truth, here and now before the Gods. Benedar swears. The septon crosses to you.
"And do you swear, my child, to speak naught bu the truth, here and now, before the gods?"
"I swear."
"Then let this trial commence."
Jon Arryn gestures. "Lord Belmore, as the formal complaintant, and the senior lord, you may list your charges."
Belmore steps forward.
"I charge Lord William Bordain with intent to wage war on a Rightful Lord of the Vale, with conspiracy to murder a Lord of the Vale, and with manner unbecoming a lord, should he weasel his way from the first two."
Jon Arryn turns "Your plea, William?"
"Not guilty, your honor."
He turns to Belmore.
"Your evidence, Benedar."
(cont)
>>
>>23763627
"My lords, let us not forget who it is that I charge with these crimes. William Bordain is a lord over lands that were once mine. He won them in the Rebellion, for having the strength of arm and weakness of spirit to murder a child." There is a murmur of agreement, though some scoffs oppose it.
"And has he been seen, in the years since? No. He dwelt within his stolen keep, plotting. For what? For more power, my lords. This man was once a squire to Tywin Lannister! He will not be content with what he is given, he will take all he can reach until he bursts with the fullness. Twice I sent my men to bid him greetings to our lands, and welcome. And twice they were turned away.
Then, without warning, he rouses himself. Moved by some dark hunger, he strides forth from his castle. And what does he do first? He tears the tongue from a man who dared to question his rulership, and nailed it to a wall! He would have you think he is civilized, and a bringer of order. He is a bringer of tyranny!"
"If you do not believe me, look at his next actions. He summons forth the Hill Tribes, by holding the son of their High Chief prisoner. When the chief comes, he strikes him down, and demands that he submit to William's rule! He goes from Chief to chief, enslaving them to his will, slaying the only one who refused. These Hill tribes are no friends of the Valemen. His "sworn Vassals" raided my shipments for over twenty years! And so he harnessed his sled with rabid dogs."
"Now, he has torn the tongue from those who speak against him, he has enslaved those who raid him, and what does he do next, my lords? He commissions a great expansion of his army! Scores of his small folk are pressed into combat services, trained brutally, and handed Castle-forged steel. What enemies does he have that need so many soldiers? No army from outside the Vale can even reach him without first crossing the Mountains, and the only reliable passes are blocked by the Bloody Gate."

"He may cry protection my lords, but who does he seek to protect himself from? Does he think the Others are coming to seize his lands?"

"I send a sworn knight of my house to speak with him of these things, and again I am refused entrance! Now I know what must brood in his heart: He has some of my lands. Now he plans to have them all. Rich I may be, but I am not so strong in arms as this forger of death has made himself! And so my lord called us to this fete, and I rode out, but left some scouts to watch the Lord Bordain's procession. To ensure he did not strike while I was away. I even visited my friend, the Lord of Snakewood, to speak with him of my fears. He told me that some bard had come, speaking of Lord William's accomplishments! So now he seeks to make himself a hero before he strikes!"
And yet, would a hero set himself upon my scouts without warning or offer of parley? His men, which my sources say numbered far beyond the reasonable expectations for a lord's guard, fell upon my scouts like the rabid wolf does the flock, butchering them in his love for blood. Even now, word reaches me that his man was staking their bodies in grim threat upon the borders of my lands!"
"My lords, he is crafty, cunning, and cruel. He has won through some threat the hand of the Tollett's daughter, and means to take from me my lands to slake his greed!"

...You know, if you didn't know the truth behind what happened, you'd be pretty inclined to believe the man. He speaks his case well, and it's clear he believes what he's saying. More so...He's afraid. He is sweating, and his hands shake. This man is legitimately terrified of you.

>>23763919
Medieval society has a different understanding of the word "evidence". You HAVE a giant army. That's irrefutable. You personally command 1 out of every 20 soldiers in the Vale. And he is a great lord. His WORD is evidence. On the other hand, so is yours.

Tell me oh Lord Benedar, if Lord Arryn ordered you to kill everyone in an village, woman and child included would you obey your Lord as you swore, as you promised? Or would you go against his orders, betray him? From what you have said its more likely the second indeed."

"So here we can see the meat of the question, the stolen keep, stolen lands, but i will not discuss that, for it is beyond obvious. Yes, i stood in my Castle for two years, for what i did in the Rebellion was a heavy weight on my soul, and if any other man did such and played merry and happy after such, then he is not a man i would like to know. I can only say my apologies to the various Lords that sent inventions, but none i accepted, you are not a special case Oh Lord Benedar."

"Tell me oh Lord Benedar, if a man prowled your realm speaking betrayal most foul what would you do? Kill him? Find out my he did such? I did not kill him, i showed him great mercy indeed, for he spoke only of betrayl and did not partake in action, as such i took his tongue and sent him to the Wall. And tell me would you rather i allow him to rouse the small folk? Is that what happens in your land? Is each and everyone allowed to curse your name, curse the Lords and Kings? Truly you are a mighty steward."

"I striked down the Cheif?" William laughs like a madman, turning to the ghost of the Cheif "Truly you are a demon to return to flesh after i killed you, tell me oh ghost did you not raid my shipments? Did you not raid and kill my men as well at the behest of another? Or perhaps i should say more accurately accepting the cash of another? They did so, and killed fine men, loyal and strong men but i do not begrudge them, for now they are mine and past wrongs whilst not forgiven will be forgotten."

To be continued.

Also, have Lord Tollett explain how the betrothal came about, and have our betrothed speak as well. Play up that this man has plotted against us time and again, and we have taken NO actions inside of his lands while he has done his level best to incite rebellion in our lawful lands.

Seriously, our explanations should be simple, truthful, and to the point.

And after all is said and done, end with this.

And Lord Belmore is welcome to disprove any of this with actual witnesses, evidence, or proof of why his men were within my lands. Or, if he doesn't want to admit the truth and wishes to cloak his actions under lies against those who have born him no ill will, then I can offer him no respite. I have no aim upon his lands, I simply intend to make MY lands the most productive, best defended, most peaceful, and richest in the Vale. I bear him no ill will, however I will not abide slander, malice, or his malignant actions towards me and mine. I would ask that my lord Arryn visit both lands with a part of his choosing, and after inspecting the lands, the folk of the lands, and the prosperity of the lands then I would have him make his decision. Because really, the truth is obvious.

So he posted arm scouts along a road he KNEW we wold have to travel to reach the fete, without any identifying sigil, without orders to identify themselves before us, and without any substantial reasoning beyond, " I was scared."? Sounds pretty irresponsible for a lord. This sounds more like evidence of Gross Negligence, than evidence of a coming invasion.
>>
"I would first like to address the points that Benadar Belmore has brought up.

I murdered children, I do not attempt to deny that, and I see their faces in my nightmares when I close my eyes. I slew them under orders, and I could not have disregarded those orders without being a craven traitor. Do any here believe that we ought to have let that bloodline live on?

I secluded myself for years due to guilt over what I did. And when I awoke from my slumber I saw my lands in disarray and took measures to solve such issues. Bandits, supporters of the Targaryens, and chaos. I brought my lands to order once more.

I expanded my armies in order to secure what I had so that my people could live in peace once more and ensure that my shipments of Iron, Steel and Arms, weapons and armor that most of those here use to supply their own soldiers, remained safe and out of the hands of brigands and instead in the hands of loyal soldiers.

As for my treatment of the Hill Tribes, why do you not ask them? I have Luuk right here, the very son of the High Chief as well as Rogar, a respected chief in his own right. Luuk, Rogar, speak freely now, did I enslave you or earn your loyalty?

I do not wish your lands Lord Belmore, I have those gifted to me by King Robert and it is sufficient for me. I wish to protect mine. Someone outside of my lands funded those who rebelled and preyed upon caravans and my people. I have the gold which was used to buy such things here as well as Luuk who can testify that your Ser Ilmond who paid those who attacked me and my people.

Those scouts of which you speak, they were bandits who fell upon our men as we made our way to the fete, bandits who the Lord Belmore should they have not been defeated by my loyal men they would have attacked the Tolletts, including the fair lady Alyssa and I shudder to think of what they would have done to her. I had their bodies placed to deter anyone who would threaten such a lady."

But we were, unless I miss my guess, on the road. And the law says that any traveller owns the road against bandits and raiders, and any actions he takes against them are automatically lawful.
>>
>>23764128
Gah, fucked up the last bit and forgot to add something.

"Those scouts of which you speak, they were bandits who fell upon our men as we made our way to the fete, bandits within Lord Belmore's lands with no sigil to identify them as anything other than brigants. Had they have not been defeated by my loyal men they would have attacked the Tolletts, including the fair lady Alyssa and I shudder to think of what they would have done to her. I had their bodies placed to deter anyone who would threaten such a lady.

Speaking of Alyssa Tollett should I have threatened her into giving me her hand let her speak now and seal my fate."
>>
>>23764120
Plus they apparently killed themselves rather than surrender.
>>
>>23763802
>>Murder a child
In our defence we reference the fact that their rightful king and the man raised by Lord Arryn himself seemed to find our conduct very becoming of a lord indeed. Everyone does bad things in war but we did what was needed.

>>He dwelt within his stolen keep, plotting
I sit quietly in my keep? HE MUST BE PLOTTING
I leave my castle? HE MUST BE PLOTTING

>>Nailed a man's tongue to the wall
When the penalty for treason is death allowing a man to take the black is a mercy.

>>Hill tribes
Did this man seriously argue striking down the chief of the hill tribes is conduct unbecoming of a lord? And not two sentences later freely state "These Hill tribes are no friends of the Valemen" who raided his and now my shipments?
What sort of half-cocked argument is that?!
>>23761775 Seems to cover our response pretty well. Furthermore, ask whether he believes Lord Arryn should strike us down for pacifying the hill tribes.

As for the large army. Ask Alyssa's lordly father to testify as to whether we were attacked travelling through my land, even the stretches ruled by the hill tribes. Then ask Grell to testify as to how many bandits attacked us in Belmore's land. Perhaps if Belmore's army was as strong as mine he might be able to better guarantee the safety of beautiful young ladies passing through his realm *gesture to Alyssa*
>>
>>23763802

"Indeed, oh what great expansion of my army! It is not as if i sent thousands of Wild Man to farm the lands, it is not as if i brought them civilization and let them rest their swords. Tell me oh Lord Benedar, do you not have an army? Is it not your duty to have such? Perhaps that is why the Hill Tribes raided your shipments so, what folly indeed. I am a Man of War, i know it, and i feel it everyday, i have the greatest forges of perhaps the entire kingdom would i not use them? Would i not raise a host of men, no larger than many other lords? I would say that your own army has greater number than my own. Oh my apologies as i said before you must lack the men and will for such. I say that many other Lords beneath Lord Arryn have much greater numbers than my own, would you accuse them of betrayal as well?"

>>23763990

"As for who i seek protection from? Perhaps you think i seek to protected my self from yourself? Do not worry, you are not worthy of such."

"As i said before i refused all that came, for the war grew heavy on my soul, but i do not expect you to understand. Some scouts? Would i have such numbers that i would call them scouts, scores of men, or better yet 'scores of bandits' for none of them where marked or called themselves your men, none acted as men under a Lord should. So i did what i would have, to protected my betrothed i would do much more, i would fight against the dragons themselves. Tell me Lord Tollett's did i threaten you in the least? I would recall some of your comments where most amusing, altough your lack of blood to drink was most displeasing."

And now that we crushed him we point out everything we got in terms of proof.
>>
>>23764218

I could probably write even more, but eh good enough.
>>
>>23764160
>>23764120

OOC? This is a combination of things. Those were Trained Scouts. They were a distance from the road, and had orders to not initiate combat, but to defend themselves and flee if possible.

You sent Grell and his Elite Guerillas out. Grell doesn't believe in talking to bandits. And he's known to torture them basically for fun.

This would be a "delightful misunderstanding", if not for the dozens dead.

Alternatively, it's the first time in Westeros history that both forces ambushed each other.

Let me try and synthesize the two seconded speeches.
>>
>>23764218

Point of order, we have, I believe probably the second largest army in the vale.

And allow me to state that all of these comments are perfect, I suggest we blend them all together and add the stuff I referrenced in >>23763930 to bring it all together.

>>
>>23764246
Heh, that's actually kinda funny. I think we won at the ambushing, and we're alive and they're dead so I think we get to say what actually happened. We can easily claim that they assaulted us and would have taken Alyssa and done unspeakable horribly bandity things to her and he can't refute it.

>>23764279
It's good to have a fuckhuge army. It's both big and extremely well trained.
>>
>>23764279
>Second largest in the Vale.
Hot fucking damn men! We have a force that could probably hold the Eyrie from all comers in event of civil war.
>>
>>23764246

Very valid points Page, and yeah, I figured it was something like that, however the fact remains. A force of men, slightly off the road were intercepted by our very enthusiastic Grell and his lads.

So yeah, it was a misunderstanding the led to a bloodbath. Thankfully we won that bloodbath, and who can prove what their intentions or orders were? All who know of them, save Belmore are dead.(Hopefully).

It still looks highly damning against him that he can be viewed as having set up an ambush, and we basically rolled it up with minimal loss. And with the law as it is, sure we are stretching the laws a weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee bit, but it's still feasable, if certainly frowned upon.
>>
>>23764313
I think it might be Grell's turn to testify that Belmore's men attacked us first.

Part 1 of your rebuttal

“If I may address his points individually, my lord?” You ask, and Jon Arryn nods his assent.
“Time and again I hear the charge of child murderer thrown at me. I grow weary of it. IF you went to war, Lord Belmore, and Lord Arryn commanded a village burned, would you hem and haw about women and children, or would you DO YOUR FUCKING DUTY? Somehow, I think your lord would find you come up short. Lucky mine didn’t.”

“And yes, I brooded within my castle. For I can still hear the princess’s cries when I sleep. I still see her face in my dreams, begging me to let her live, and I still she my hands covered in blood. Some days, I wake wishing I had betrayed my lord. My heart was heavy for two years with the weight of my sins, and if any man could do what I did and walk from it merrily, I would not wish to know him. If I turned away your messengers, and I likely did, do not think yourself singled out, Lord Benedar. It was a long, dark night for me.

And when I awoke, I found my lands in disarray, swarming with Bandits, Hill Men, Targaryen Loyalists, and so I did my duty as a lord. I brought order. My loudest detractor spoke not just against me, but against the King, Robert Baratheon. You may abuse me all day long, it does not tire my spirit to hear, but to insult my lord, or my King? That is too far. So yes, I took his tongue. Would you let a traitor walk your lands unpunished, Lord Belmore? I fought him before the seven, laid him low, and took his tongue. And I sent the rest of him to The Wall. But not before he told me a funny thing.”

>>23764615
Part 2.
“Someone, it seems, was paying him to stir the people against me. Someone willing to part with 1000 dragons just to see me inconvenienced. I have never seen this type of coin before, but I wonder if you recognize them, Lord Belmore?”

Whispers spring up around the room at the strange coins.

“Now aware that I had distant enemies, I trapped the Hillmen raiding my mining shipments, intending to torture and question them regarding their lands, and why they raided me. But I caught a much bigger prize than I imagined.”

You step aside, and let Luuk step forward. Luuk explains that it was him, not you, that suggested you fight his father, and that he was the initiator of the idea of the Hill tribes becoming vassals.

You then take the stage again. “And you say I struck down their Chief?” You turn to Tor. “Truly, you are more demon than I, to return to the flesh after death! Tell me, SPIRIT, did I treat you unfairly for all the grief you stacked upon me? Did I rage and whip you for the men lost to your raids? “

Tor shakes his head.

“No, I did not. I fought you, man to man, and you lost. Tell the assembled lords what you told me.”

Tor takes your position, and speaks on how, swayed by his son’s idea, he had capitulated to serving you, and how he gave you the funds he had been paid to raid you, a chest of gems, worth another 2000 dragons. And how it was given to him by a man with a purple pin on his chest.

>>
>>23764851

“My lord, do you know how many purple sigils there are in Westeros? Don’t worry, I checked. There are 14. And yours is the only one in the Vale. Were that not enough, look who my vassal brings to me, as the man who negotiated this raid? A man you proclaimed as your vassal just a day ago.”

“So now I knew YOU sough t to cast me from the lands you thought yours, and to drive me out. And you have a great deal of wealth. You can afford a great many soldiers. So I needed a great many soldiers to face you. You are right there, I armed myself in preparation of battle with you, because I knew you would come, or buy more raiders, or some other plan. And I know many things, but I know war best, my lord. And you would not win a war with me.”

“Nor could you win a girl from me. This may surprise you my lord, but I have no need to seize a wife by force. I met the lady Alyssa, courted her at her father’s request, and at the end of the week, she told me we were betrothed, because I like my women with a little iron in them. God knows what that fool who dueled me yesterday thought.”

“And when I ride to this place, beside my BETROTHED, and my future FATHER-IN-LAW, I find myself beset by bandits in your lands. Bandits with too fine blades and too great of numbers to be mere bandits. You sought to assassinate me on the road! And so my men butchered them. And when Luuk found your man in the crowd last night, I knew I had you, you sniveling coward.

“What have you to say to MY argument, my lord?”

There is a long silence in the Eyrie. Then Belmore speaks.

"I think, my lord Bordain. That we have both been made out to be fools. And more, I think I know the man responsible."
>>
>>23764895
>"I think, my lord Bordain. That we have both been made out to be fools. And more, I think I know the man responsible."

>>23764895

That makes things a lot easier on our part.
>>
>>23764895

"Despite my earlier words, Bordain, I did not overly miss the loss of my lands to you. They were raided frequently, because I could not ride up there to run the mine myself. I thought it needed a strong hand. I had intended to give the keep to one of my vassals. As a reward. For while his line of the family had stayed loyal to the Targaryens, he followed me in Rebellion."

There are some gasps about the room, so presumably this is enough for the assembled nobles to know who it is.

BONUS ROUND: Who do YOU think it is?
Explain your answer, and if anyone gets it right, You all get a prize!
>>
>>23764969
It... was... AW FUCK THAT GUY WE JUST MET! CORBRAY!
>>
>>23764981
Can't be. His family was on the Rebellions side, his younger brother killed Lewyn Martell at the Trident.
>>
>>23764969

The guy the luuk grad earlier or more likely he is going to throw someone under the bus because he see his chases of wining the trial slipping fast.
>>
>>23764969

You know i can picture William saying something like

"Ah, i thought as much, although your actions yesterday led me to believe my suspicions of another party where unfounded."

It would fit.
>>
>>23764981

He is also a lord on his own right.
>>
>>23764969
It was clearly UT. Why else would he be so completely against us? Indeed, it all fits; UT wasn't well known enough to be granted lands, but felt he deserved them for his services. So he infiltrated the painted dogs, still working for Belmore by keeping his neighbor too weak to attack.
>>
>>23764895

I think that just about ALL of us called that one. But now the real question is who.
>>
>>23764969
It might be Lord Lynderly of Snakewood, because snakes mean that someone's a villain, but that seems a bit thin.

I need to think.
>>
>>23765016

Negative Ghost Rider. UT was a painted dog.

I'm thinking it was either the purple fuck that Luuk caught yesterday, or Corbray. Who is standing behind us, probably with a knife.

Hopefully Grell understands well enough to trust nobody and to be watching him.

>>
Guys, guys, remember! It's a vassal house of House Belmore, and one that backed the Targaryens while one person supported the Rebellion.
>>
>>23765067

Yeah, but who are Belmore's vassals?

Tollett?

Why yes, captcha, it was some enviesom folkes.
>>
>>23765100
The only vassal of his that has been mentioned, as far as I can remember, is Ser Ilmond Graf(???).
>>
>>23765100

Perhaps it was the young knight that tried to kill us?

Unlikely.
>>
>>23765100

Nope, the Tollett's are lords in their own rights, and they are sworn to the Royces.
>>
>>23765111
Okay, it's Ilmond Grafton, that's his name, of the Grafton family of Gulltown.
>>
>>23765139
Graftons were targ loyalists

"Randyll Grafton stayed loyal to King Aerys II instead of following his Lord's banner and was slain by Robert Baratheon at the Gulltown Walls."
>>
>>23765139
Also, Randyll Grafton joined up with Aerys in the rebellion so it fits.

It has to be a Grafton and Ilmond's the only one mentioned. It can't be Gerold or his son Gyles, the only two named members of the family in the books as they're lords in their own right and sword to Arryn.
>>
So it has to be Ilmond Grafton. Final answer.
>>
>>23765146
>>23765139
>>23765151

Sounds to me like it's going to be the Grafton bastard then.
>>
>>23765172
No other options. He's the only Grafton mentioned, as far as I can tell Grafton was the only family in the Vale to stick with the Targs.

He also had motive and opportunity to poison Belmore against us.
>>
>>23765139
>>23765146

AND JUST WITHIN THE SECRET TIME LIMIT. (AKA: How long it took me to do necessary errands)

"And when, as my trusted vassal, I asked him to deliver my greetings, he told me you rebuffed him. But that was a lie, wasn't it, Ilmond?"

The man you ordered imprisoned begins to shake.
"Aye, it was. I had had enough. Enough of serving you, after you just let my prize be taken away, enough of lettin' you lords think you're the most powerful people in the Seven Kingdoms, that you get to play merry hob with people's lives, breakin' up families, killin' children, and walking' away scot-free! I figured, if no one caught me, one o' ya would kill the other, and get killed for doin' it. But looks like that way's shot."

He turns to Jon Arryn. "If you'll open the Moon Door, I'll show myself out."

>Let him?

>>
>>23765209

"Lord Arryn, I humbly suggest that we don't allow him to 'show himself out'. There are far too many questions left unanswered. His motivations seem shallow and I do not believe that is all there is to it. There is also the question of where he obtained such strange coinage.

I believe he is protecting someone or something that threatens us and wishes us in disarray."
>>
>>23765230
>>23765236
>>23765247
>>23765239

No. He's not EARNED a combat death. Let him jump to his death from the moon door. He's a traitor, a foresworn oathbreaker, and has no honor. If we all want William to become better than his past would allow, then we let him jump, and do it without concern.
>>
>>23765209
Aw hell naw. That ain't how we deal with traitors round here.

I say we throw him to the guerrillas.
>>
>>23765209

>>
>>23765269

>>23765263
Then he can go skydiving.
>>
I've already voted by the way.

>>23765230
No, we've got questions to ask and this isn't our house. If Arryn wants him beaten with a hammer we can raise our hand, and we're not in good fighting shape.

>>23765239
>>23765272
Again, not our call to make. This isn't our house, this is our boss's house, he decides how the torture is getting done. If he asks we can suggest some stuff.
>>
>>23765263

Actually, that does bring up the coinage and is a question that bears answer. Where did it and the rest of the wealth come from. After he is put to the question, by someone like Grell or hell, by Grell, then he can have the moon door. But NO duel or combat death.

He truly hasn't earned it.
>>
>>23765230
No, we don't need to permanently burn a destiny point just to fuck with someone due to die regardless. Plus this man's going to committ suicide, demanding we kill him personally just reeks of bloodthirsty psychopathy.
>>
"Lord Arryn, would you release him into my custody? There are some questions to be answered yet."

And look as ominous as possible. I like this idea.
>>
>>23765263
This, this, a million times this!
>>
>>23765236
>>23765263

He snarls at you.
"That's the best part, bastard. I ain't never seen those coins before."

Luuk steps up beside you. "He may speak truth, Will-yam. He only gave us gems. Ut was one with coin I assumed it something he raided from you."
>>
>>23765295

You know a part of me just wants to ask as i said Lord Arryn for his costudy and give him to our dear friends to play with.

And have a pithy one liner as they carry him away "I am not a good man as you should well know." just to see if anything useful comes up.

But thats just me.
>>
>>23765295
"Well, isn't that interesting. So you did this just out of sheer spite and dislike. That is rather sad.

Lord Arryn, I have no further questions, though the matter of this coin must still be investigated, and I leave him to your judgement."

This, perfect respond.

>>23765333
This says about all that needs to be said.
>>
>>23765333

>>
>>23765295

Lord Belmore admits that the gems are his. That a wagon had been beset by bandits, probably Ilmond and some thugs, and stolen. Given the wealth of his gem mines, he did not particularly mind the loss.

>>23765280
>>23765269
Lacking any other questions, and as Lord Arryn does not seek to abide a traitor in his home, Ser Ilmond is permitted to take his own life.
Before he steps out, he looks around, and spits.
"I hope you all drown in Fire and Blood."

And he is gone.

Jon Arryn holds up a hand.
"As it was your vassal, Lord Belmore, that mistreated Lord Bordain so cruelly, I am ordering you to pay restitution of 5000 dragons. No doubt the Lord William can spend a good deal on his upcoming wedding.

And so ends your time at the Eyrie.

In other news, I have a gold thread on sup/tg/. this is possibly the best I've felt about my contributions to a /tg/ project. Better than being on the 1d4chan wiki for Wild Cards, better than my work on P:TA.

I am so happy.

In any case thanks for the Quest Page, and i will say that i think this is almost on the level of Karban Quest. It was just awesome, if a tad rushed at the end.

Jesus fucking Christ. Look at our Military, most of it is Elite, we could wipe the floor with pretty much anyone. No wonder everyone is terrified of us.

What are our Lands looking like currently? No matter what we should spend 10 to knock our Small Town up to a Large Town.

We still need to keep bringing up Law. Though the most efficient way to do that is to put bonuses into Power and transfer it over to Law. For House Fortune if we get a Boon we put 1 in Power and the other in Wealth, if we get Blessing split them between Wealth and Power, if we get Growth we choose one depending on what we need most right then.

As for things to buy with our Wealth. Maester, 10 Wealth, this is something to get, they're just so useful. A Sept for 15 Wealth is good, we want to capitalize on people kinda not hating us as much and keep the not hating us train rolling. With the 29 Wealth remaining I'm not sure exactly what to do.

Unless Smelter doubles the bonus to Power and Defense that the Iron Mine gives us making it a Extended Mineworks will take forever for a +1 to Power and Defense rolls, not that impressive.

I think we should start getting some money machine going to match our War Machine. Maybe drop a Silver Mine and a Jeweler Artisan with the rest, and next chance we get make the Gold Mine into a Mine Complex.

Email is in the email field.
>>
>>23765702
Or alternatively for the Money Machine grab a Monthly Trade Fair and then up that to Bustling Marketplace.

Though at the current juncture the Mine and Artisan will get us +3 Wealth rolls for 25 Wealth, the Monthly Trade Fair gets us +1 for 20 wealth, but it does have the reroll which changes the average of 3.5 on a d6 to 4 because all 1s are rerolled so it's +1.5 Wealth for 20, better deal for now to get the mines, especially since we could add on a semi-precious gem mine after that to get another +2 to Wealth rolls for only 10 Wealth. Money is good.

I wish Princely would come back, at the very least to finish the Purchases, I feel that there's so much not there.
>>
>>23765773
I'm currently working on an Influence portion of it, based on Bards, Mummers, and Troupes as your tiers.

Jonah was the first attempt.

In other news, Jonah was also my self-insert.
His mannerism and description were mine, and I'm a professional actor and comedian.
>>
Anyone mind if I email them for Page's email?

I got caught up in something else and didn't have time to come back to this quest.
>>
>>23765786
Awesome. Also a Law portion might be useful. If you ever need to bounce ideas off someone drop me an email, I was the one in Karban who broke the Money Machine so Princely had to fix it. I like figuring out any flaws or break points on it.

One problem I do see with the system is that you need major time skips in order to see something like an Advanced Mineworks get built. On a related note the benefits given by Extended/Advanced Mineworks aren't really worth how much they cost.
>>
>>23765851
Everyone here just gave me theirs.

I could give you mine, but how can I trust you?

I kid, I don't care.

>>23765856
Hmm. You raise a point about the Law portion. I'll have to think on that. Secret police? Judges?

And yeah, I guess that's a bit of a bitch on the time.

Considering that our grudge against Tywin and King Robert was never really addressed, I have to wonder
What would they think of us, when word reaches them of our deeds?
>>
>>23765964
heh mine was made when I was 11 so you're good
>>
>>23765906
Putting on the name I used for Karban.

For Law, it's hard to think of good ones. Maybe something like small buildings where travellers can stay for the night that are armed and defended, not sure what they'd be called, Patrol houses where units of soldiers are posted in small towns and along the roads to keep patrols moving and banditry down. Things like that.

Adding stuff for the other stats might be called for as most of them only get bonuses from Mines so far, and that's a bit sad.

Wealth is a bit of a Godstat given how easy it is to keep on throwing upgrades at it to get absurd amounts of Wealth a turn and reinvest it into anything you want.
>>
>>23765576
I'm pretty sure we're like ten years too late for that.
Unless Karban goes through a heavy timeskip, and that doesn't sound fun.
>>
>>23765576
That would end badly for both the houses both are scary in their own way.
>>
>>23765983

Mine too, and it's kind of a unique thing too (save for one Spanish kid, but he capitalizes it differently).

I say we try to spread influence and make friends with other nobles. Or at least make allies.

Show that we can be the hardest of badasses, but only when angered. Usually we're quite fun after a few goblets of viscera in our belly.
>>
>>23766034
That they are. Bordain is going to get some major economy going soonish, he hasn't hit Karban Money Machine yet, but if he gets some mines in and a Jeweler he'll be pretty damn close.

And Bordain's army would utterly rip Karban's army a new one on an open field, but fortunately for Karban Bordain doesn't have any boats. Which is something Bordain might want to fix, get a Shipwright's Guild and start pumping those motherfuckers out with his Power Machine.
>>
>>23766064
That is if he can get past the Fleets of Karban&Co

And do not forget Karban has ten years on us.

Of course considering Karban is the Spirit of Nwabudike Morgan made manifest, he would approach Bordain with a offer he cannot refuse.

>>23765856
The Revenue and Increase in power towards your peers and neighbours is worth it.

Considering that as usual the heavy industry requires a higher investment threshold its not SoD breaking at all.

>>23765773
Considering we are a more martial focus, going the whole buisness and trade magnate route in favour of manufacture is not all that Bordainlike. We know a bit about mines, and at this point the obvious way to make money is to get the second mine and the artisan like our fair lady suggested.
>>23765906

I was mathhammering it out, for now the mines are our best choice.

You can get some absurd money from getting a Gold Mine, Silver Mine, and Gem Mine going as well as a Jeweler and a Jeweler's Guild. That's 55 Wealth and it gives you +10 on all of your Wealth bonuses if I'm reading it right. Honestly that feels excessive.

The reason I don't feel the Extended/Advanced Mineworks are worth it is that you hit some serious diminishing returns. You have 25 and then 45 Wealth to get extra +1s to Power and Defense rolls if we use Iron Mines as an example. It's a high cost, not to mention it taking years to build, and gives minimal benefit.

A possible fix I'd do for this is make it instead of 1,2,3,4, make it 1,2,4,8. As it costs more and takes longer you get a bigger and bigger benefit. It provides incentive to focus on something. Though I'm somewhat worried that with a Gold Mine you'd get +16 on Wealth for 100 Wealth, which is pretty damn quick to pay for itself.

Another problem that we may run into since the plan seems to be expanding it to cover lots of other stats with Wealth buying improvings is that Wealth will be too much of a necessity. If you want to get a large army the optimal route will have to involve getting a Money Machine first and then diverting it to Power. A possible fix is allowing some of the upgrades to be bought with other Stats as well, perhaps at a lower cost.

>>23766987
It is absurd money. It is in fact absurd to have more than two type of mines in the same general vicinity of a small feudal lord land plot.

So the gold should be the limit on mineral exploitation with our current lands and that of the hill tribes we incorporated.

However with further land acquisition and perhaps a market we can have gems imported before they get worked on at low cost and have them polished, worked, cut and then forged into jewellery here before exporting them at a higher price.

As for large army, the tree should not consist of only one option. You could go either money Machine + Power Machine, or Population/Land Growth Combo + Power Machine. However Increasing Lands and Population seems to be somewhat dependent on either RP or the MoneyMachine thus far.

For the Advanced Extended Mine works to work we could actually have a way to make them viable while still capping them at 1 Power and Defence rolls. Getting a Architect or a Shipwright should decrease further building acquisition (constructions, Carts, ships whatever), be they in wealth, defence or lands by a certain amount of the Time required due to increased proximity of resources. This way we dont fuck up the costs, but are able to fast track their delivery date.

Another option would be to hardcap the mines benefits at having that +1 only up until a certain score of POW or DEF, say after 50 in each you would not get that +1, and would be required to spend wealth to keep them armed, because they exceed their allotted quota of iron, and picks, spades, hammers and ails are a tiny bit more important.
>>
>>23766987
Adding onto the being able to spend other stats to buy things. Things like using Influence to bring more able soldiers and hedge knights to your lands to get a bonus on power rolls, or Defense to make training forts and the like so that making a Money Machine isn't required if you want to do anything else. I mean the Starks didn't have a Money Machine and they did just fine.

Note, if the Smelter does give the doubling bonus to any metal from mines than some of my niggling issues and suggestions will need to be reworked, it's somewhat vague as it says "metal-based upgrades. You have to be very careful when you throw straight multipliers around, it's very easy for them to go overboard, especially if you stack them on top of each other.

On a related note, what does the Smelter do for a Blacksmith? Does it make equipping them take 1 Wealth and take (1d3+1)/2 Months to outfit a unit with Castleforged?

Also, side thing, upkeep costs might be something that needs to be put in for things.

And the difference between Growth, Boon, and Blessing becomes minuscule, the difference between +1 and +1d6 is just an average of 2.5, that's not impressive at the scale of things we're throwing around.
>>
>>23767127
Indeed. In fact they are one of the more poor regions, if not the poorest. But with lots of Land and considerably Population.

Thus with a simple call to arms and good speakers and Banners they can get a army.

In fact i think while most of the Northern Army is Stark+Bannerman the Lannister Army is mostly Lanister army + Subsidy of his vassals. in other words, Lannister payed the wages, one of his banners made or bought the armour, one of his banners mad or bought the weapons, etc.

Thus the more uniformed and better equipped lannister army, and the more ragged looking yet just as numerous and more cavalry heavy (lots of lands, not that much people thus horses) North Army.

Of course if we look at the freaking Baratheon Army, then we see the real epitome of military might in the seven kingdoms, able to truly mount expeditionary missions sustain itself far off in the field and in need of be severely outnumbered through either diplomacy (Red Wedding prelude) or combat multipliers (dragon fire and tunnels ahoy).

Of course a deeper study would be needed for the baratheons and I dont have much on their lands.
>>
>>23767127
Also, Cities. Aside from being required to buy certain Wealth upgrades and being easier to defend I don't really see much of the benefit of larger towns/cities, maybe having them give bonuses of their own would be appropriate.

>>23767094
Yeah, it is absurd money, one of my goals is to find absurd things and call attention to them.

And yeah, we probably won't be able to stick too many Mines in one place, though we've got a pretty good amount of land on our hands due to getting the Painted Dogs.

I'm not entirely sure what you're saying about Advanced/Extended Mines.

>>23767173
The North has a flying fuckton of Land, it's about the size of everyone else put together, it's just fucking cold and not as dense.

The Stormlands have a damn fine navy, lots of coastline, not that big, lots of mountains, forests, and shitty weather.

Personally I'd put the Tyrells as one of the most dangerous Houses, one of their Banner Houses, the Redwynes, has a navy about the size of the Greyjoy Navy. The Reach is the most densely populated areas as well, they're not poor in the least as well. Though their army isn't as hardened as a lot of other people.

Side note, since we seem to be scaling up how much bonus stuff a house can get we're going to have to keep perspective, people like the fucking Lannisters can throw 50 Wealth around like it's nothing, they're rich as balls. I'd just ignore the 0-70 range that the book gives as examples. Storm's End or the Eyrie ought to be be worth more than 70 Defense, powerful houses pull more than 70 Power worth of troops out, the Lannisters consider 70 Wealth to be an expense but not an egregious one.
>>
>>23767233
If you consider the book example as the monthly revenue on the other hand...

Plus we dont see vassals paying their tithe to their lords all that much in the game...

That or we tend to play seriously rich fucks. consider generating a house that has only 5 wealth at the start.

For the Advanced /Extended Mines, I was thinking that their existence could with perhaps a rock quarry could hasten the construction of anything be it a fleet of carts or ships, defence buildings or wealth buildings, due to its very large size allowing smelters and blacksmiths to work 24/7, and with creative adminstrative reshuffling geting your own buildings priorirty thus cutting down perhaps 25% of the time needed for them to be finished. A quarry and other additions could extend the bonus to a maximum 40% decrease in the construction time.

Something that would seriously make getting them worth.
