So I build a cult of Mortals around me. I regenerate quickly, allowing me to feed them my blood regularly, healing the sick and extending the lifespans of the elderly. I become The Scholar. As the terminally ill flock to my cult, I guard and shield them from the predations of other dragons as well as organize them into an effective fighting force with a variety of weapons to defend me. See, they fail to really limit what a 'precious' metal is. As such I contest that ANY metal that is exceedingly rare, highly sought after, and very expensive to acquire is a 'precious' metal. And I know for a fact that there is a toxic waste repository specializing in spent plutonium fuel rods and depleted uranium smack in the middle of the Arizona desert. So I'll just move there. Wire it up with high speed DSL, and while away my days, lounging upon a bed of radioactive metal that can't hurt me.
