Predator Quest: Episode 21

You are Three-Claw, a Yautja hunter of the Cloud Viper clan. You have been tasked by your clan Matriarch to investigate breaches of forbidden knowledge by clan Weyland on the planet Fey'lenn, or Pandora, as it is known in the human tongue.

You detect an edge of threat in Night-Star's voice. "Kindly evacuate the ship," he repeats, "Your task is done here."

"We can't fight him head on," Seeking-Eye tells you, "but I'm not going to hand him this ship. It's our mission to bring this back!"

"We might not have a choice," says Steel-Arrow. "Quick-Shadow? You know the fleet-master well. What do think?"

"We leave this ship and he'll shoot us in the back," he says simply.

Do you:

A. Demand to speak to Jackal
B. Refuse his orders and tell him you'll remain with the ship.
C. Agree, and inform him you'll begin evacuating now.
>>
>>25006270
A
>>
>>25006270
A as well
>>
>>25006270
>A. Demand to speak to Jackal
>>
>>25006270
>A. Demand to speak to Jackal

Dunno what good it will do, since or conversation will obviously be monitored, but we can at least stall for time.
>>
Is it possible that Admiral Asshole isn't actually connected to this and is merely an unlikable, incompetent sac? We can assume he stole trophies to get into his position, but beyond that? It's entirely possible another night-prowler is behind the technology selling, taking advantage of his fleet-master's incompetence. I mean beyond being the fleet master, we don't know if he was directly involved in the missions with the disappearances. He is the fleet-master after all, there's a lot of shit he can't personally micromanage.
>>
>>25006303

"Where is Jackal-of-Carrion?" You demand over the comms. "He is in charge of this mission. Let me speak to him."

There is a pause. "He has been escorted off the bridge and thrown into the brig for disrespecting my command. He has forgotten this is a Night-Prowler ship, and I am its captain. I am now in charge of this mission, and my order to you is to hand this ship over to me!"

Do you:

A. Inform him this is a breach of operational protocol, and is tantamount to treason.
B. Insist he put Jackal on the comms, brig or not.
C. Tell him you'll cooperate, and agree to evacuate the ship.
>>
>>25006385
I think stealing trophies actually carries the same sentence as selling technology. Death.
>>
>>25006402
>A. Inform him this is a breach of operational protocol, and is tantamount to treason.
That's not how it fucking works, the matriarchs gave a command he is to follow.
>>
>>25006402
>A. Inform him this is a breach of operational protocol, and is tantamount to treason.

Lets play some hardball.

Also, OP, you're missing your name.
>>
>>25006402
A again
>>
>>25006402
A) with a bit of B)

"Shipmaster or not, you have no right to hold jackal-of-carrion, in addition to breaching operational protocol"
>>
>>25006406

Well yes, Admiral Asshole is an asshole for stealing these trophies. But assholes can only do so much assholery; I'm saying that what we know doesn't necessarily imply he's doing the technology selling. It's very well possible there's another night-prowler behind this, spurred on by an incompetent fleet-master who can't stop him.
>>
>>25006402
>>25006270
(you're missing your name OP)
>>
>>25006406
It does.
This goes beyond incompetence. You don't sell technology to an alien race you are not supposed to have contact to due to 'incompetence'. You don't present trophies that are clearly not your own, as your own due to 'incompetence'.
Personally, I want to wait for a better hand before confronting him; at the moment he holds all the cards. I don't want to go toe-to-toe against hi flag ship right now, even if we do have 3 crippled ships.

>B
>>
>>25006462
If he's not actively trying to betray us, then he's doing a DAMN GOOD JOB of faking it.
>>
>>25006425
>>A.

"This is a breach of operational protocol, and is tantamount to treason!" you inform him. "The matriarchs have given you a mandate and you have far overstepped its bounds."

"Yes, and I'm sure the Empress's agents are on their way to arrest me now, here in the middle of nowhere, thousands of light-years away from the nearest outpost. Give me the ship. You have five minutes."

With that, the comms link is broken.

You receive another incoming message. This time from your mentor. He seems to be crawling through a tight passage.

"That Night-Star is a hologram. It's a very well crafted one, but he can't fool me. I pretended to throw a fit and got myself thrown off the bridge. I need to find out who's controlling the hologram. He has to be somewhere on this ship. You need to stall."

Do you:

A. Ask Jackal to sabotage their weapons systems if possible.
B. Ask Jackal to sabotage their sensor systems if possible.
C. Tell him you'll try your best to stall.
>>
>>25006538
C, let's have faith in our Mentor's skills

>C
>>
>>25006495
>>25006489

Well, his two destroyers witnessed us destroy all hostiles and secure the ship before Admiral Asshole sent them away. Seeing as we're in the middle of deep space, there's no convenient place or hostiles available for a little accident. If he wants to betray us, he'll have to fire on us himself, which is a very dubious proposition to justify.

C.

It's not prudent to steal our mastah's spotlight.
>>
>>25006561
He's gotten away with worse. It would really be quite the shame if the human battlecruiser, with a malfunctioning up-scaled plasma caster and damaged generators suddenly went KABOOM while the entry team was aboard and their ship was attached, wouldn't it?
He'd only have to kill us; the ships he can take for his own
>>
>>25006575
>>25006551
>>C

You tell him you'll do your best to stall. You quickly consult with your teammates.

"I say we set off the munitions storage, de-pressurize half the ship, and tell him the ship is highly unstable at the moment," Burning-Scythe suggests.

"No point in remaining civil any more," Seeking-Eye chimes in. "Tell him we'll shoot down any shuttles he sends and meet any boarders with plasma fire."

Quick-Shadow's next. "Bluff him. Tell him we got the cannon operational. If he tries anything, we'll gut his ship."

Do you:

A. Ask Burning-Scythe to find a way to de-pressurize the ship.
B. Threaten Night-Star to shoot down any shuttles he sends.
C. Bluff, and tell him you managed to get the prototype cannon working.
D. Other.
>>
>>25006671
Is our armor suited for vacuum, and how are our oxygen supplies?
>>
>>25006656

But he wants the ship. Being on the ship is what's keeping us alive right now; we leave the ship, we stop being in the way of having the ship.
>>
They aleady saw the cannon fail once so that bluff won't fly.

I say we destroy the cannon's reactor ourselves, both to cover our tracks with that plasma core we found and to stall them. That should be believable.
>>
>>25006699
You have re-breathers, but you won't be de pressurizing the whole ship, only parts of it.
>>

C *sounds* good, but if he's been supplying the guys like we think he may know it doesnt work.

I'm gunna say D) We're more than prepared to kill anyone he sends aboard the ship if he seeks to deny us our honor as hunters.
>>
>>25006729
Grab it for info and to hopefully get the Marines to go to war against W-Y, possibly by attacking them with it.
>>
>>25006729
IIRC we need the ship to A) masquerade amongst the humans and B) Spoof their comms and stuff.
>>
>>25006671
A

No sense in starting a direct confrontation. We've got 3 Hunters and a Noobie to cover a whole ship, not exactly a winning proposition..
>>
>>25006729
Bring it back. study it, and use it to pull other humans into conflict with Weyland Yutani.
>>
>>25006671

A, though Night-Star will probably know something is up.

Could we throw in a little "Some crew/synthetics have managed to slip into the vents and are sabotaging the ship?" to complement our A? Hopefully A is disincentive enough to prevent additional boarding, while saying "SABOTEURS OH NOES" gives us a fairly reasonable excuse for the time being.
>>
>>25006671
A.

It's not time to show our cards just yet
>>
Could we pilot this ship without the crew?
>>
>>25006804
That could work. We could pass it off as "previously deactivated synthetics are starting to appear on sensors".
>>
>>25006804
Ooh, excellent idea
>>
>>25006780
>>A. Ask Burning-Scythe to find a way to de-pressurize the ship.

You turn to Burning-Scythe. "Do it."

"Right," he tells you. He taps away at the nearby console. "I'm going to shut off coolant flow and vent plasma into the lower munitions bay. Hang on to something."

You brace yourself for impact. You hear a sharp hiss and a sudden jolt as the ship is thrown violently side ways. Warnings begin blaring around you.

You raise Night-Star on the comms. "We've got a hull breach. Multiple decks de pressurized. This is ship is highly unstable. The whole thing could fall apart at any second. You need to give us a moment to stabilize this."

Night-Star clicks irritatingly. "I don't have time for this. Prepare to be boarded."

The comms link breaks again.

A moment later, you hear Steel-Arrow's voice. "I see shuttles undocking from his flagship."

Do you:

A. Open fire on the shuttles as they approach.
B. Let the shuttles in and prepare to repel boarders.
C. Evacuate and return to your ships.
>>
>>25006901

Dammit Scorch, that didn't work at all.
>>
>>25006901
What about the humans? Can any of us imitate human speech well enough to masquerade as one of them and tell them where the shuttles are coming so the humans can ambush the boarders?
>>
>>25006901
Hmmmm, B. The guys on those shuttles could just be following orders. Lets do hit and run stuff and harass them on the ship to buy time.
>>
>>25006901

Well so much for that.

If they're at all smart, they'll shoot our ships down and strand us here. We don't really want to open fire on other night-prowler forces either.

How fast could we go into fold space, and would they be able to follow us?
>>
>>25006901
>A. Open fire on the shuttles as they approach.
>>
>>25006944
You've killed pretty much the entire security staff. The scant few left are non-combat personnel.
>>
>>25006901
B
Is there a way we can let them board and blow everything up, take some evidence with us AND pick up our mentor?
>>
>>25006944

I like this. Hell, we don't even have to lie much at this point, just tell them what's happening.
>>
>>25006901
Can we gun the engines and move away?
If we can't, A while saying the crew managed to regain gunnery control.

>>25006944
Three-Claw himself did it, so he can.
>>
>>25006901
A.

Does depressurizing our ship gonna affect our piloting?
>>
>>25006959
Can we click at the Non-Combat personnel until they realize that Badguy Yautja are going to show up and kill everyone on board, and see if they can help us turn this into a deathtrap.
>>
>>25006901
D) Warn shuttles that any attempting to board *will* be fired upon without mercy, If they want to choose to die that's on them
>>
>>25007006

Seconding, though just say they're automatic "The defenses are automatic, back off and give us some time to disable them."
>>
>>25006957
>>A.

"Hit them."

"Right. Rail-guns online and tracking," Seeking-Eye tells you. You hear the thrumming of the auto-loaders working.

"They're not returning fire." Seeking-Eye tell you. "Maybe Night-Star bought that whole ship-is-about-to-collapse ruse after all."

"Or, he's willing to risk a few lives to take this ship in one piece," Quick-Shadow mutters.

"Damn!" you hear Steel-Arrow curse. "He's firing at ME!"

Do you:

A. Tell him to make a run for it and engage foldspace to inform the matriarchs of what happened here. (DC: Hard)
B. Tell him to stay close to the battle-cruiser
>>
>>25006975
cont. I we pick A or B, we really need to be sure we can get back to the ship and escape.

So I change B->C we shoud try to gap some evidence and bail, then escape ASAP, maybe destroy ship on the way out.

You notice someone reaching out to you via your private comms. It's your mentor.

He clicks in amusement. "Like you wouldn't believe," he tells you. "Problem with these human ships," he taps away on a nearby console, "is they're poorly designed and prone to fall apart at the worst moments."

"They're past our defence grid now. Managed to shoot down one and wound another. Six left. They're heading for the hangar. "Seeking-Eye informs you.

Actually... with no one manning their flagship, can't we just make a run for it when they start to board? Set somes explosives on the bridge (and the reactor if we have any remaining) as we run away, bam, they've got a big mess to clean up even if our mentor fails. And if he succeeds, well then they're effectively at our mercy.

Preds are basically a primitive society with space age technology - they found what amounts to a working full stc library and their technology shot forward from stone age to 'galactic empire' stage.

You tune your holo-emitter and broadcast the mirage of a tall figure running across one of the many corridors.

You hear the enemy leader growl. "After him! You heard the Fleet-Master. No survivors."

The three of them begin to chase the fleeing figure.

You skillfully manipulate the holo-emitters controls and lead the team towards two of your mines. They run past it without a thought, and the mines detonate.

The explosion rocks the ship and the three warriors become engulfed by fireballs.

The two lighter armored warriors die instantly while the third managed to crawl away, having lost a leg. The sentry guns suddenly activate and flourescent blood sprays against the walls as he is gunned down. The first team is dead.

"Second team enroute," Burning-Scythe tells you. "They've reached the mess hall."

You paint your target with the targeting beam, but suddenly notice it pass straight through the figure.

It's a hologram. You hold your fire and quickly scan the area with a keen eye. You notice the a faint beam extending from the corner of one of the corridors, and adjust your aim.

You charge your plasma-caster to its maximum power and fire a beam at the holo-emitter.

You hear a howl, and one of the enemy warriors stumbles from cover, engulfed in plasma fire. You fire a second shot, which puts him down.

The remaining hunter is unaccounted for, but he could not have run far.

Do you:

A. Continue searching for him within the barracks.

You receive an incoming call over your private comms. It's your mentor. "I have control of the bridge." You hear a loud commotion behind him. "I've sealed the door. They're trying to get in. It's secure for now."

You acknowledge.

Do you:

A. Confront Night-Star about the loss of his ship.
B. Ask Steel-Arrow and Sharp-Strike to board the flagship and help Jackal secure the rest of it.

>>A and B
You open a comms channel to your team and inform them of the situation. "Steel-Arrow, Sharp-Strike, Jackal could use your help in securing the rest of that ship."

"On it."
"On my way," they acknowledge.

You open up a channel to Night-Star.

"You've lost your ship," you tell him. "Its bridge is ours. It's over. Whatever game you're playing, you've lost."

"Is that what you think?" he scoffs. Suddenly, you realize his voice is closer than you think. He must be nearby. "A temporary setback. My crew will take back my ship and I will have your head."

You signal for your teammates to lay prone on the upper catwalk as you hear footsteps approach.

Three heavily armored warriors dressed in boarding gear and sporting dual plasma-casters step onto the lower catwalks. Night-Star is among them.

You project a holo version of yourself to the far end of the catwalk below. You tune your mask to project your voice over the hologram.

You slowly walk the hologram forward, and stop at where the swinging crate should slam into the catwalk.

"Ah, Three-Claw," you hear Night-Star say. "Are you here to at last surrender the ship?"

Do you:

A. Demand to know why Night-Star is doing this, and what he possibly hopes to gain.
B. Challenge him to a 1v1 duel.

B. Challenge him to a 1v1 duel.

Your holo-self points a finger at him. "Night-Star! You have shown yourself to be traitorous scum. Show me what's left of your honor and fight me as a warrior!"

Night-Star clicks in irritation. "You're wasting my time. Stalling will get you nowhere." But - I will not kill you just yet. I need you as leverage, in case my crew is not able to reclaim my ship."

He motions to his two teammates. "Subdue him."

They begin to approach your holo-self. Do you:

A. Slowly back the holo-self up and trigger the crane as the two enemies press onwards. (DC: Medium)
B. Wait until the two warriors are separated from Night-Star, then jump and tackle Night-Star to the ground. (DC: Medium- hard)

>>A. Slowly back the holo-self up and trigger the crane as the two enemies press onwards. (Critical Failure)

You slowly back the hologram backwards. The two heavily armored warriors press forward, then suddenly stop.

"Wait!" one of them cries. "Look! It's a hologram!" He quickly scans in your direction.

"There! Open fire!"

They open fire with the plasma casters.

Blue-green bolts slam into the scaffolding beneath. One shot grazes your shoulder and burns your skin and you tumble backwards.

You fumble over the railing and find yourself suddenly falling. A sinking feeling hits your stomach as you desperately attempt to grab onto something.

Quick-Shadow snaps his arm out and catches your hand midair. Plasma shots continue whizzing overhead. Quick-Shadow strains, and manages to pull you back up.

Fortunately, the difference in height between the two catwalks is such that it's difficult for the shots to reach you from below.

Do you:

A. Attempt to use the high ground and return fire (DC: Medium-Hard)
B. Activate the crane and try to distract them.
C. Perform a fighting retreat back to the reactor chamber.
