It is Autumn. The chilled northwinds breeze through the tower sequestered far from civilisation, to the northern mountain ranges called Vaen Magus or "Mage Peaks", in whatever ancient tongue the world was named in. Within this massive spire and complex are many mages who study different schools of magic, from elemental magics to enchantments, and even a few that use this thing called "Arithmetic" to cast spells. There's so much magic in this place that the arid landscape around it is warped with strange gardens, craters, and even a few odd lava pools from the magic distorting the area.

The sun peeks over the horizon, through the tower's valley, clipsing it in rays of sunshine. These rays of sunshine pass through windows and into rooms as bright splashes of light.

Except yours.

As per your demonic nature, you tend to keep your private room as dark as possible. To be awakened by another has become commonplace, but still aggravating.

"Aisha," you hear, piercing your dreams like a needle, "Aisha!" the voice calls louder.

"Aisha Ligrev, get out of bed this instant!" the voice shouts, with a commanding nature that demands obedience.

Well, it worked. Mostly. You're awake now.

"I'm up..." you start, slipping your legs through the silky covers to rest on the solid wood floor, "I'm up." you mutter. You sit up eventually, and apparently you were taking too long to move because the girl who woke you has found it necessary to chuck your student robes at your head.

"Put this on. Get an instrument. Class starts soon!" With that she skitters off down the halls.

"Friga..." you groan through the robes. She's always hounding you for performance, griping at you to use your full talwnt and potential. You mock her as you get dressed.

"You're a demon, she says" you use a whiny voice, "You should be better at this than anyone. Pff." you shrug on the cloak that goes to your robes and turn to the cabinet that holds all your instruments. You know how to play all of them quite well, but you'll only need to take one.

You pick up the violin in its case and sling it to your shoulder. This and the lyre were always your favourites. You spin on your heel and walk out into the... ugh, daylight. As you walk through the ring that makes up this floor of the tower, the blazing sunlight hits your pale, almost ashen skin and makes it itch. You sigh and file your way into the fray of students heading to their classes. A few are demons, but for some reason you're one of very few in the College. You spend quie some time on the centre spiral staircase that runs the length of the tower, then you reach your floor.

27th floor: Musical Studies, Enchantment, and Soul Rending. You always smirked at "Soul Rending". It sounds so much more sinister than it really is. You make your way to the end of the hall, to Classroom 56-C. You peer in the window and see nobody's there except the instructor and... a stranger!

You press your tapered ear to the door, trying to glean any sound, but you fail to hear through the thick wooden door. Determined, you carefully press the door ajar, and you remember to be mindful of the squeak. You keep it just open enough for you to hear tidbits of the conversation.

"Can't... her"
"...Come with us..."
"...can't... ready"
"...no choice... orders."

With that final word, students begin to push past you into the classroom and you follow the tide and find your seat. The stranger leaves, offering a passing gaze to you and for a split moment your heterochromatic crimson and violet eyes meet his.

You spend most of the class distracted, wondering about the stranger and what him and the teacher were talking about. Friga sits next to you, trying to get your attention. The snap of a flute on your desk gets your attention.

"Ms. Ligrev. It is time for your presentation now." the instructer says, her voice firm. It seems like she's been trying to get through to you for quite some time.

You pull your violin case up onto your desk and open it, revealing the cherry finished instrument and matching bow. It's a beautiful piece of equipment, and under the layer of varnish you can baely make out runes that help the violin channel magic.

You step to the front of class, then have a moment of indecision. You practised four songs, but don't know which would be best to show.

You take a breath and prepare to perform one of the harder, more classical songs you practised. The sound fills the room, projected by magic and the different tunes, and lines, and sections playing simletaneously through your skill with magical music and the enchantments in your violin. You make a few mistakes, but that can be expected wth such a complicated piece. Some of the students look enraptured by the song, and by the end they're practically swooning at you. You look to the teacher for explanation.

"I guess you didn't mean to do that. You bewitched them, Ms. Ligrev. Try to be more careful, we don't need the whole class trying to marry you, now do we?" she lets out a lgihthearted laugh and flicks her wrist and the students' bewitchment ends. You recieve a note with a grade.

"B+". You give an appreciative smile to the teacher, and the applauding students, and return to your desk.

A few more songs go by, then the teacher speaks loudly to everyone.

"Now, with that little mishap I suppose it's time for a new lesson. You've all learned quite well to enhance the sound of your music, but now you'll learn how to enchant the music itself to carry special properties from healing to," she looks your way, "bewitchment."

This sounds important. Maybe even useful.

You pop open your notebook and quill, and begin to write down everything the teacher says verbatum.

"The fundamentals to enchanting music is to focus on two things. Your own emotion and feeling, and the emotion and feeling portrayed by the music. You can certainly force your will into a song, but the greatest effect is achieved when your will and the song's soul work in harmony." the lesson goes on for almost and hour.

"That'll be all for today," she says finally, as class is nearly at its end, "I recommend you gather some classmates and attempt to enchant your music to some effect. Healing, laughter, something that won't have too heavy an impact on their minds." she says, then a chime rings through the room and everyone begins to gather their things.

"Ms. Ligrev" she calls out, "wait a moment please."

You wonder what she wants to talk about...
