Welcome all to Golem Quest! Here you take on the role of a newly crafted golem, fresh from the Wizard’s lab, only to find a few things have gone awry. First and foremost, you wake to find that you are not a mindless construct bent to a wizard’s will, but that by some stroke of luck or intent, you are sentient! Your thoughts are in a language you innately recognize as Common, though for the moment you merely marvel at your sudden existence.

Before we go any further, we need to decide on the ‘model’ of our golem here. Rolls are done on a 1d100 basis, with bonuses or negatives applied based on upgrades, etc, 1 is a critical failure, and 100 is a critical success. First, the material of the golem:

Clay – Relatively easily molded to form, clay is a very cheap resource for golem creation, if a little weak. As a clay golem, you do not have the structural integrity of stone or metal, but nor do you have the frailty of the flesh. You are truly the average of the golem types. However, you do have a few advantages. First, as your form is more easily molded, the magic used to create you is less strenuous and thus you have retained a portion of your materials bond to the earth. However, this comes at a price, you are more likely to succumb to the effects of enemy spellcasters. Also, your kind is relatively cheap to craft, and you may take advantage of that.

>Earth Bond: +10 on rolls to cast spells related to the element of Earth.

>Spell Weakness: -10 on rolls to resist harmful magic.

>Cheap!: -20% cost to create other clay golems.
>>
>>32249069
Stone – Formed from the granite of the realm, you are among the strongest and most resistant of the golem types, second only to iron golems in that regard. This allows you a certain degree of protection against the weapons used by fleshlings. You are relatively clumsy, however, and the more delicate arts may elude you. You find yourself drawn to the weapons of the earth, however, and find that your clumsy hands are much more suited to creating and wielding these weapons.
>Tough Body: -10 to enemies using conventional weapons (bows, swords, and the like)
>Clumsy: -10 to skills requiring dexterity, such as many forms of crafting.
>Weaponcraft: Negates clumsy for the purpose of creating metal weaponry, and +10 on combat rolls using such items.
>>

327 KB
327 KB JPG
>>32249069
Iron – The most resilient of all golems, you boast the ability to shrug off most conventional damage, but find that you are the weakest of golems when subjected to spells that utilize the water or fire elements. Like the Stone golem, you find that creating and wielding such weapons quite suits your abilities.
>Iron Body: -20 to enemies using conventional weapons (as above)
>Elemental Resistances: -20 to rolls to resist spells of the Fire and Water elements, as well as those involving rust or the like.
>+10 on the creation and combat rolls involving metal weaponry.
>>

24 KB JPG
>>32249069
Flesh – Sewn together from the cadavers of a dozen men, your form allows a greater range of movement than the inanimate golem types, if it a bit twitchier. You are also less resilient to damage, so care must be taken to preserve your form. To aid in that, you begin with the ability to repair yourself from the freshly slain.
>Articulate: +10 on rolls on any Craft skill, including Craft: Golem, as well as any rolls to cast spells
>Cadaver Repair: Using a corpse, you may repair 5% of your total HP, -1% per day since corpse’s death, health gained is doubled if a suitable lab is available.

We are carrying a heavy load, it seems. Okay. We're almost at done here. Finally we have your general purpose, what your wizard/creator wanted your purpose to be.

Warrior: In your form is instilled the raw knowledge to create and use weaponry. You also are well versed in the creation of buildings as a result. However, your focus in this area draws away from your ability to learn and cast magic.
>+10 to combat rolls
>+10 to Construction
>-10 to spellcasting

Crafter: You were created to aid your master through the creation of magical items, of which you adept in the use of. However, this the extra tools crafted into your form inhibit any long travel.

>+10 to all craft checks
>+10 when rolling to use magical devices
>+20% movement
>+10% weight

Spellcaster: You were created to be an assistant to your creator. The spells used to create you imbued you with the ability to learn and cast spells with a practiced ease. However, this detracts from your ability to combat threats in the conventional manner.

You are a Crafter!

As you open your eyes you find yourself laying on a hard surface. Turning your rather rigid neck, you find a cadaver of humanoid origin blasted to a husk, slightly smoking even as you turn to look. You sit up and begin to observe your environment in a more detailed manner. You seem to be in some sort of laboratory, where you can see two bookcases stuffed with books, an odd table with a number of glass vials filled with different colored liquids and apparatuses, and a number of racks containing some tools you couldn’t fathom the use of.

Directly behind the corpse is a spiral stairway that leads both up and down.

What do you do?

Upon closer inspection, you find that the corpse was only recently burnt to the crisp you currently see. You take the light load easily and set it upon the stone slab you were laying on moments ago for further inspection. The burns do not seem to be mundane in origin. Looking about the area, there is soot emanating from the stone slab. One might assume that it may have been your creation or awakening that caused the backlash. Perhaps one of the books here may explain it?

Upon further investigation, and some brief skimming of the more basic manuals reveal some of the functions of the objects in the room. The table with various beakers and such is an alchemy table, useful for the creation of potions and the like. The tools on the wall are of an assorted variety, but are useful in the creation of golems, but without the proper spells they are only useful in the preparation of the materials. The rest of the room is beyond your comprehension for the moment.

You climb the stairs, and after a short period of time you come to an open door. Stepping through you find yourself in a rather spacious chamber. Arranged around the circumference of the room are a multitude of bookshelves with copious amounts of books. In the center of the room is a circle inscribed into the stone with some sort of white substance. Chalk maybe? Also near the center of the room is a podium with a book open on it. A quick skim of the book reveals that much of its terms and contents are beyond your understanding. However you do discern that the circle before you is a summoning circle, and that the book describes the advanced arts of summoning various outside beings, such as devils and demons.

You bookmark your place in the volume and follow the staircase down past your chamber of creation and step out at the next landing. Here you find yourself presented with two rooms. Each simply have a wooden door closed at the entrance, on one door the word “Storage” is inscribed on the door, on the other is “Forge”. The landing itself is unremarkable, simply a mundane nexus is seems.

The door opens easily enough, though through your rather underused auditory senses you notice an audible snap as you turn the handle. You venture into the room marked storage to find that the room is much more vast than any of the other chambers you have come across so far. Walking amongst the various barrels and shelves you find resources both mundane and magical, such as stone, alchemical substances, and more. It would take quite a bit of time to stock and categorize everything here, but it is an option.

Taking inventory of the storage chamber takes quite a long time, though as a golem you have no limits based around sleep, nor do you require sustenance, so this is not a deterrent to you. After meticulously checking every possible container in the room, barring a few containers even your great strength could not open, you are left with the following:
>550 units of stone
>200 units of iron
>200 units of wood
>100 units of clay
>100 units of water

>50 units of unidentified fluid

You cross the landing to open the forge, this time without the audible protest of the door. Entering the forge you find yourself within a… well, a forge. You, as a Crafter, recognize the various elements at play here. The forge itself, anvil, and the other tools used to shape and compress resources into usable shapes. It is here that you finally notice the tools that are grafted onto your arms. With a quick, almost instinctive, twist you pull what seems to be a smith’s hammer from your arm. Well, that’s convenient.
Note: You have gained access to your crafting equipment. The stone on your arms and legs can be detached can reasonably be used to craft many different types of items. These tools change shape to suit your needs, but are always tools you may use by hand. Thus they cannot take the shape of an anvil or the like.

Descending the stairs once more, you seem to come to your final landing. The landing also seems to serve as some parlor of sorts, as it is the most opulent chamber in the structure, whereas the above chambers each were rather minimalist in their furnishings. Here you see a rack of a number of bottles, along with a roaring fireplace, in front of which sits a handful of cushioned chairs. There is a small bookcase here, in which each of the books are marked on the bindings, and are much smaller than the tomes you found above. There is a single door here.

You take two steps outside to get a sense of your environment, and find yourself standing on a staircase built into a mountainside! Looking upwards you see the structure you have been exploring for the last... period of time. It is a well disguised tower, built into the mountainside. From your position, there doesn't appear to be any openings aside from the door you now stand next to.

Venturing back into the tower, closing the door behind you, you take a quick look about the parlor. The bottles are labeled with various alcoholic beverages, and the books in the shelf are easy reading, mostly fiction, with a few history books thrown in. The fire itself has no source, and is most likely magical in nature.

After a period of time, upon which you glean the basics of creating a stone golem's body, you find a warning to apprentices written in the book:

You ponder for a moment, before responding. "I believe that I should continue our master's work in his stead. But before that, we should bid his body a final farewell."

The boy nods, and you lead him upstairs, where he says. "He always wanted it to end where he worked- in the forge." You unquestioningly lift the cadaver and transport it to the said location, where the boy... chokes up. You simply place a hand on his shoulder, and after a moment, he whispers a word, and the cadaver is alight. It only lasts a few moments, and then it is ash in the forge.

--End-- Alright everyone, that was a great time. I tried to get a little bit of every post into that, but I had to rush a bit. To tell you the truth, this is my first time QMing, can anyone tell me how to archive the thread? I've seen it done before, just not how.

Also, I'll be up a bit longer to answer questions, if there are any.

On suptg's archive page, click the manual request button. Enter your OP post number as the thread number, then enter the title, description, and tags. Make sure to include the 'Collective Game' tag, and separate each tag with a comma exactly how you see them when browsing the archive.

Thanks for the compliments, I'll see if I can run it again tomorrow around the same time as I started tonight. Otherwise I'll run again Thursday. Also, made a twitter:

Your welcome. Though, at the rate I'm getting sucked into new quests, I'm going to need to make a twitter to keep up with all of them.

I know the feeling. I've gotten sucked into three in the past week. Been a good time.
