My name is Cecile, and I'm sixteen years old. Though I'd like to think that my upbringing was pretty normal, my parents got a really good job offer last year that would force them to move to the opposite end of the country... and that was the end of my "normal childhood." And after reading that weird book that my best friend Mina had sent to my house, I myself can't even be called "normal" anymore.

After leaving Charlotte's hotel room (and being forced to borrow some of her clothes), I headed over to Theresa's house. It turns out that her Branch lets her go invisible or something, which I guess is pretty cool.

But she also wants to play like those weird thief guys in those cartoons she likes. And she wants me to be her "sexy assistant" too.

I swear, it's like everyone's gone completely nuts.

"So how about it?" Theresa asks. "I'll make you a cute outfit that'll match mine, and then you can back me up. I can go invisible and you can like, throw up a hologram or something to cover our tracks even better! We'll be the perfect team!"
"Oh my God..." I place a hand to my temples. "Theresa, you can't be seriously..."
"And why not?" she shrugs. "I mean, I have powers and you have powers and they even work pretty well together... don't you think that maybe this was fate? Like maybe we were destined to partner up and do amazing things together!"
"Me and Mina almost got killed yesterday over this stuff, it's not some game like in those cartoons you're obsessed with!"
"...what?"

My outburst just now might have startled her, but she NEEDS to be brought out of her fangirl daze before she does something retarded.

"Me and Mina were going to get something to eat yesterday afternoon when some nutjob tried to cut my head off with giant green triangle dorito things," I say. "I could feel them pressing INTO my neck."

For added emphasis, I point right where he was trying to impale me.

"N... neither one of you was hurt, were you?" Theresa asks, her eyes now all watery.
"No, we're fine," I shake my head. "Mina hit him in the face with a rock and then I bugged out for a little while and apparently tried to laser his arm off."

While I don't have any actual memory of it happening, I sure as hell got a good look at it after the fact.

"Wow..." Theresa mumbles.
"There's a bunch of people in this city RIGHT NOW looking for the books that you and Mina bought, and I'm sure that Charlotte's already suspicious that there's someone running around here with a stealth-type Branch..."
"Huh? Your girlfriend's a Branch holder?"
"she's not my girlfriend dammit"

Seeing as how she REALLY needs to know this stuff before she gets herself into something stupid, I spend the next halfhour or so explaining to Theresa everything that I know about Charlotte and Gauthier and all that stuff.

...well, everything except her Branch's name. After all, Charlotte did tell me that in confidence.

"Wow, I didn't know it was -that- dangerous," Theresa sighs. "...or that you're going out with someone on Gauthier's side. I guess it's a nice way to get information, though..."
"Not. My. Girlfriend." I say through gritted teeth.
"You're not just saying that?" she asks. "'cuz it's not like I'd judge you for it or anything, I mean I'm a-"
"I'm not just saying it," I grumble. "Seriously, we're just FRIENDS."
"Oh," she nods. "Ehehehehe... okay..."

Why is she smiling like that.

"I guess this just means that I'm gonna be extra careful, then!" Theresa claps her hands together. "I can stay in invisible mode for as long as I want, so getting caught shouldn't be a problem..."
"...you mean to tell me that you're STILL going to be trying to play kite-oh or whatever!?"
"Of course!" she crosses her arms. "I just need to make sure that I'm fully prepared before I make my formal debut, that's all!"

Jesus Christ, it's like she completely ignored everything that I just said.

Let's mention this too

Let's mention that apparently people who gain a unique branch become superheroes/psychopaths fairly often and that one of the factions jobs is to hunt them down. Yourself included.

And THEN while we're training Theresa's powers, we should try our own hand at optic camo because that seems like a natural extension of what we can do.

Yeah let's do it. Support the Theresa.
>>
>>33031494
I don't think optic camo is the first thing we should try for, I can think of two different ways to achieve something like that with our powers, and we'll need more practice before we can do either of them.

We can either bend light around an object so that anyone looking in the direction of an object sees the light generated behind the object. Or we alter the color emitted from a portion of an object to match the light impacting the opposite side.

Also, it'll require a lot of precision to have this work well on multiple people at multiple angles.

If we're looking to practice there are three really important things I think we should focus on. First, condensing ambient light into a thin beam and being able to manipulate and aim it properly, second, altering the color/wavelength of light, being able to turn visible light into ultraviolet, vice versa, and change the color of things opens a lot of doors, and third, if we start getting the hang of beams, then forming ambient light into a loop and building up the amount of energy stored for a pulsed laser.
>>
>>33031779
So first we should focus on the flashlight portions of our power and then in the bending/refracting portions?
>>
>>33031966
Condensing light into as thin a beam as possible is one of the simplest and most intuitive uses of our power, and it seems like a good idea to get a metaphorical big stick, just in case walking softly doesn't work out.

And the skills we develop from practicing it should help us out with other applications of our power that involve bending, scattering, and concentrating light.

Though being able to change the wavelengths is big, being able to convert between ultraviolet and colored light opens up a lot of possibilities, including lasers invisible to the human eye.
>>
Even if I can't convince her not to do this stupid crap, at least I can try to make sure that she knows what she's doing...

"Dammit, Theresa..." I mumble as I walk over to a couch and plop down on it.

And then I have to stand back up and fix my dress before sitting down again. Stupid fancy clothes.

"So you're gonna help me after all?" Theresa asks as she sits down next to me.
"I'm not agreeing to ANYTHING," I sigh. "But I also don't want you getting captured or shot in the face or whatever because you overestimated what you can do."

It's like I'm being forced to be her babysitter.

"Theresa, has it occurred to you that there's tons of people other there with Branches that are capable of God-knows-what? And that some of those people most likely make a living hunting down people who get the idea to do what you're thinking of doing?"
"Of course," Theresa nods. "Magic hunters are a common hazard in things like this... but that's no reason to cower in fear, right? It just means that I need to master my Branch to its full potential!"

Quit smiling at me like that, it's not gonna work.

>[1/?]

>>33032151
>being able to convert between ultraviolet and colored light opens up a lot of possibilities, including lasers invisible to the human eye.

I have the question: Do we really want to pursue that? We could have instances where we're lasing things that we don't realize we're lasing and bystanders don't realize they are being lased.

I'm sure it has uses, but maybe we shouldn't consider the laser part of that as much as the ability to do things like see through walls with wave shifting the naturally occurring ambient x-ray waves.
>>

Another we should consider (though it's too early to even try right now, and we'd have to do in character research first), is making Photonic matter (i.e. solid light).

That would take reagents and maybe twenty years of high energy physics tenure.

We're better off creating illusions around solid objects. Same result with likely far less requirements. If we can manipulate the way light reflects against things like solid walls, they would appear to be mirrors or at least completely different objects than what they are.

Camera her, I'd say see if she shows up on various types of scans (heat ect) but we don't have that tech.

Also we should google various light related stuff.
>>
I would like to see if what she's doing is actual invisibility, or if she's merely placing herself somewhere else.

In short, I want to see if it isn't actually short-range teleportation. And with herself at her current state, she's actually teleporting herself very short ranges.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't we, so far, pretty much solely used our power to make a flashlight laser (also a slightly bigger sun laser, some sort of flashbang and the ability to see ultraviolet light and with any amount of light, but those appear to be unconscious), and just that was rather difficult and somewhat tiring. How the hell are we going to do half this fancy shit?

Granted, splitting the light going into an object, making it flow around and then join back up isn't that much more complex, but good luck doing it in multiple directions at once.

>>33032374
She could also accomplish a lot of getting shot in the face. What about other senses - I'm wouldn't be surprised if animal lady or dragon chick had a heightened sense of smell, that triangle guy could sent out a net of tangrams and just feel for her.
>>
>>33032345
>reagents
The whole point of reagents are to manipulate the photons.
Since we can do that directly with our mind, I don't see any reason it's not possible with practice.
>>
>>33032652
> How the hell are we going to do half this fancy shit?

We're going to git gud. We're grabbing and bending light currently. So being able to bend and change light states would be the next step.

Also this is all theory, we have no idea what our actual limitations are, but according to Charlotte, we're likely very powerful.
>>
>writing
>>
>>33032254
We can actually see ultraviolet. It's actually a moot point however, as we effectively have zero scatter so long as we maintain tight control all across the length of the beam. This means that no light escapes to make it visible.
>>
>>33032652
Always training, all the time.

Also, interactions with the enviroment- footprints in carpet, the sound of footsteps, that sort of thing. Also all the senses. including taste
>>
>>33032652
Practice, practice, and more practice. That's how you get good at something. Charlotte considered Over Shine to be one of the more powerful Branches, I doubt we're anywhere near our actual limits.

Oh yeah, we should really try and find out if there's a limit on how far away the light we manipulate is from us, if it's harder to manipulate further light than closer light, and so on and so forth.

As for Theresa, it's not quite invisibility, we didn't notice her even when she was leaning against us, and animals, including those that use scent, didn't notice her. It might be possible for scent to notice that she's passed through an area, but I don't think they could directly pin point her. And triangle guy probably couldn't feel her with them, but likely could still blender her if he hits the right area.

>>33032736
I doubt we can maintain tight control over the length of a beam, unless we're inside or something, but I'm betting there's a limit on how far out we could do that, and it'd take extra effort to do something like that.

That's my working theory as well. I'm curious as to whether dividing one's field of vision into small sections and focusing on each in turn, as some art exercises do, would affect it. Also whether altering the image enough to render Theresa a nonhumanoid shape does anything, and whether knowing you're looking for a scrambled human eliminates any advantage. However, we don't have the necessary equipment for any of that yet.

>>33034031 here
Actually, it would be best to use a double-blind system where theresa draws several symbols (the classical ESP testing ones, for example), shuffles them facedown, whereupon one is randomly picked and mounted. This eliminates the possibility that Theresa's ability would inform those it effects of things Theresa knows should be behind her.
>>
She's waaaaay too into this.

"Let's see what happens when you interact with objects when you're invisible," I suggest.
"Oh, like picking stuff up?" Theresa asks.

"Wow, you're really thorough."
"I kind of need to be, lest you end up getting yourself killed thanks to a simple slipup," I sigh.

Seriously, she has no idea how worried I am right now.

"I guess we'll use this as a test subject," I say, picking up a book from off a shelf and handing it to her. "First, turn invisible while holding it and let's see if it turns invisible too."
"Okiedokie!" Theresa replies.

Then she takes a few steps back, and...

Gone.

>[1/?]

"The book's gone too!" I call out to wherever she is. "Now let's see what happens when you drop it!"

A few seconds later, I notice it on the floor. I didn't hear any thud or see it, but now it's just on the floor as if it had always been there.

"Umm... pick it back up?" I say.

And then it disappears again.

"Okay, I think that's enough with the book testing!" I say.
"No problem," Theresa says, suddenly showing up next to me on the couch.

After telling her about my findings, I have her stand next to the wall.

"Now I'm gonna try using my own Branch to test this out," I say.
"Oh?" Theresa replies.
"I'll make a spot of light on the wall, and you walk past it. I'm not gonna be trying to look at you, just see if you cast a shadow from blocking the light."

"Doing too much is mentally draining, but I guess this isn't really a big deal," I say.

Make it brighter. Focus. Shine in one direction.

...huh, this is a lot easier than it was yesterday.

"Is that it?" Theresa asks. "You've pretty much got a flashlight thing going on there."
"Yeah, this should do it," I reply as I look at the spotlight shining against the wall. "On my mark?"
"Fine with me."
"Three... two... one."

Once Theresa's left my field of vision, I focus on the light I'm shining on the wall. It's a nice, perfect circle at just the brightness I want... I'm kind of tempted to see how bright I can go before it gets bad, but I don't want to end up lasering Theresa by accident.

Five seconds...

Ten seconds...

And then I get the same Synapse headache that I've gotten every time Theresa's popped back into view.

"So did you see anything?" Theresa asks. "I was standing right in front of your light for a while, and then I started making shadow puppets. Did you see them?"
"Uh, nope," I shrug. "Just the big light circle."
"Huh, that's kind of interesting."

>should use illusions around solid objects
>no near weightless sticks/swords/axes/literally whatever the fuck you wanna slap a bitch with
it's like you don't want to make a summonable floppy light dildo to beat people with.
>>
>>33034733
We can sense light by dint of sorta reaching out and manipulating it to shine lights, right? I wonder if we can tell if the area where her body is doesn't have any light going through it.
>>
>>33034733
is this like the PGQ "hidden from the world" concept going on?
>>
>>33034905
If it's weightless, what the fuck good is it as a weapon? No, making it a supersharp edge won't work, those still need momentum behind them. How durable is this stuff supposed to be? How long do you think we'll even be able to hold it, even after we practise a shitton?
>>
>>33034980
Actually, we could probably make it as dense and heavy as we wanted it to be.
>>
We should have her practice taking stuff from us
like our pantsu
>>
>>33034918

I doubt it. From what I can tell, she doesn't actually go invisible or anything like that. She just convinces our minds she isn't there. If that's the case, I can see three possible weaknesses, though I'm not sure how to test them.

1) Her powers won't work on completely automated systems. That means anything from a normal burglar alarm to a death trap will work just fine, though we might not notice that it worked till her power fades.

2) Range. People looking at security footage on the other side of town might be able to see her just fine.

3) impact. This is the one that we might be able to test to a certain degree. How far can she go without us noticing she's there? Would we notice if she started tickling us? How far can she go before we notice something's wrong?

... These are the things we should be testing.
>>
My laptop decided to spotaneously reboot right while I was in the middle of writing (and of course everything was lost), so I'm running a few virus scans before I start back up.
>>
>>33034980
>>33035053
Also, we probably wouldn't even need to hold it in our hand to make use of it.
We could just levitate it around, cause it's made light.

We could use it to fly around on.
>>
>>33034905
How would you know the stuff we summon would be weightless? We would be better off with the lasers in that case.

Furthermore we're forgetting something else very important with making illusions around physical objects: INVISIBLE SWORDS

INVISIBLE SWORDS DISGUISED AS BASEBALL BATS
>>
>>33035118
We could test 1 with a motion sensor hooked up to a paintball gun or something.
>>
>>33035118
the first could probably be tested with one of these annoying movement detectors some people have

third one sounds... ehehe
>>
>>33035118
I was actually thinking, she could be pulling things to another 'side' of reality. Where the world itself doesn't notice that she's standing there.

When she comes back, the world itself has cognitive bias of her presence, and is like "Oh, yeah! Of course she was always standing there! Why would anyone think otherwise?" and then time goes on like nothing happened.
>>
>>33035118
Actually I wonder if we tossed a pillow at her what would happen. Like would it turn disappear when it made contact with her then reappear after it bounces off because that would be a way she could accidentally get detected.
>>
>>33035215
Well, there might be ways to test that. Like having her stand somewhere, turn on her power, and we throw a pillow or something like that where she should be standing.

Does she get hit in the face, but we think the pillow keeps on going? Does the pillow just disappear?
>>
>>33035188
too complex

go to the store

find one of those Halloween toys that makes noise when people get close

try it on that
>>
>>33035275
>Well, there might be ways to test that. Like having her stand somewhere, turn on her power, and we throw a pillow or something like that where she should be standing.

Shit, we need to do this then
>>
>>33035215
so her ability is witch-time?

fuck

yes
>>
>>33035118
We could probably test number 2 if she has a webcam on her computer.
>>
>>33035275
That's not exactly an accurate test for that particular hypothesis, since most of the possible results could also point towards the "she's not actually invisible we're just being brain bamboozled into not registering that she's there" direction.
>>
>>33035162
the way I (probably mis)understood the physics behind hard light is "the excited light photons force atoms and other photons out of its way, making a mass free barrier".
>>
>>33035376
The whole point of hard light is to have mass, otherwise things would just pass through it.

See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photonic_molecule

>>33035363
It isn't, but we'll get some information from it, especially from the discrepancies between what we see and what Theresa sees. And while we might not understand the mechanisms behind it, we will get practical data out of it.

Once we have some preliminary data to work with we can refine our methods and continue to narrow down possibilities.

Like putting a pile of things that can be knocked down behind Theresa, and throwing a pillow at them. Will it hit Theresa and stop, will it knock stuff over through her, will we think it knocks stuff over and actually doesn't, and a number of other possibilities. And of course taking note of any discrepancies between our frame of reference and Theresa's, that's an important part of this.

>>
>>33034733

That runs through most of the hazards that I can think of... I guess we should move on to the basics.

"Alright," I say as I sit ack down on the couch, "that takes care of just about everything."
"So we're done?" Theresa asks. "That kind of sucks, I wanted to play around with this stuff some more."
"Well, there's one more thing I can think of."
"Oh?"
"Let's see how your Branch affects the senses," I say. "Aside from vision, anyways. Sound, smell, touch, that kind of thing. Since if you're gonna be doing STUPID CRAP," I push her shoulder, "it might be a good idea to be able to tell if dogs can catch your trail."
"Oh," she nods. "Yeah, I get what you mean."

I just don't want her getting arrested or anything...

"Let me go see if my Mom got any more of those stupid perfume sampler things that they put in magazines... I'll be right back!"
"Take your time," I say as I lean back in the couch and stretch out my arms.

>[4/?]
>>
>>33035809

Making that light didn't really affect me much, but dealing with the fact that Theresa seems hellbent on doing STUPID THINGS is really taxing on my nerves. And then there's the idea that she wants ME to join her when she does them... cute outfit or not, I don't want to get shot at.

...why the hell do I care if the outfit's cute or not? Dammit, this dress is corrupting me.

After a little while, Theresa comes back with a piece of cardboard in tow.

"Alright, got it!" Theresa says. "So how do you want to do this? You stand up and I walk over to you and see if you can smell it?"
"Sure," I shrug.

Bleh, I didn't really want to get up from the couch... but helping is helping.

And it -is- nice to see Theresa smiling like this again.

With a grunt, I lift myself from off the couch and walk into the middle of the room.

"Okay, do your worst," I say.
"Okiedokie," Theresa nods... and then vanishes again.

I stand in place for what seems like forever, until Theresa finally pops back into sight

why is this thing in my face

"OH GOD, THAT SMELL!" I shout, reeling back in disgust as I then proceed to cough my lungs out. "The hell is that!?"
"I dunno, some kind of crappy perfume," Theresa shrugs. "I had it in your face for a while, but you stood there like it wasn't bothering you until I turned off my power."
"Christ..." I say, taking my glasses so I can wipe the tears from my eyes. "...remind me to never ask you to do that again."
"Sorry," Theresa pouts. "I didn't know that you'd take it that bad."
"No, it's my fault for suggesting it in the first place."

After taking a few minutes to recover, I stand back up.

>[6/?]
>>
>>33036142
I was expecting something involving the smell of a certain fluid...
>>
>>33036142

"Smell doesn't bleed though and we've already established that I can't hear you at all when you're invisible, so I guess that all that's left is touch," I say.
"Same as before?" Theresa asks.
"I guess," I shrug. "Don't push me down or anything, but... I dunno, see how far you can go without me noticing."
"Okay."

And then she goes invisible...

I can feel my balance shifting or something, it feels kind of like how it gets when you're being rocked by the waves on a boat. I guess this means that she's shaking me?

Or maybe my balance is just off, I can't really feel anything external at all.

Then the weird vertigo sensation stops, and I continue standing in place for a few more minutes. I think I can kind of feel it getting warmer, but that's about it... I have no idea what Theresa's actually doing to me, if anything.

and then

"Gwah!" I shout as I feel myself being lifted up in the air and oh my god what the hell
"Umm... I guess this is the extent of what I can do to you, huh!" Theresa giggles as I suddenly feel her arms against my back and legs.

I'm being princess carried.

WHY DID SHE DECIDE TO PRINCESS CARRY ME

>[7/8]
>>
>>33036334

"Wwwwwwhat are you doing!?" I shout as I do my best not to flail about.
"Princess carry!" Theresa laughs.
"but why-"
"You're dressed all pretty like a princess, so the urge just came over me and voila!"

She's got a pretty steady hold on me, but this is still really embarrassing. I don't think I've been held like this since I was like ten, and I can DEFINITELY feel a certain draft around my lower half...

"Please put me down," I say in a monotone.
"Aww," Theresa pouts. "Do I have to?"
"YES."

With a sigh of disappointment, Theresa walks over to the couch and -gently- places me onto it. It's impressive that she was able to do that so effortlessly and all, but I'm not some kind of doll to be carried around that!

Even if I'm dressed like one!

"...what else did you do to me while you were invisible?" I ask as I right myself on the couch.
"Nothing weird," Theresa shrugs. "First I was pushing you, and then I changed directions to see if you would do anything then."
"Okay."
"And then I thought about kneeling down and shaking your legs to make you lose your balance but I decided not to since that would probably result in me looking up your dress by accident..."
"You better not have," I say, glaring at her.

Especially since I'm wearing what Allison would call "game panties" and NOBODY MUST KNOW.

"I didn't!" she groans. "Jeez, you think I'm some kind of pervert or something?"
"A little, yeah," I nod.
"Not funny, Cecile," she sighs. "Anyways, after I opted not to mess with your legs, I just kind of leaned on you and hugged you for a while."
"...why?"
"Because you're really pretty and you smell nice and I wanted to take a look at those ribbons in your hair up close?" she shrugs. "Don't worry, it's not like I did anything weird."
"Aside from picking me up."
"Well I thought to myself 'I wanna carry her home' but then I realized that I already kind of did!" she laughs.

>Mina is not over you. What is between you two hurts both of you.

I'm not sure, but wasn't Mina's gripe about Theresa that she never really apologized? That seems like a fairly easy thing to rectify (even if it's only a first step).

Another idea would be to tell Mina about Theresa's current suicidal plans regarding her powers. That's more important than a lovers' spat.

"Dammit..." I mumble. "Allison's teasing me about having a girlfriend when I DON'T, and now you're hitting on me too..." I say, burying my face in my hands. "It's like everyone's up and decided that I love women, and-"
"You mean you're -not- into girls?" Theresa asks. "'Cuz if you're not, then I'm sorry for putting you in this situation to begin with..."
"I don't know..." I mumble. "How did you first handle it?"
"What, when I realized that I liked Mina?" Theresa raises an eyebrow. "I just asked her out and that was that."

...that's all?

"If you want something, take it," Theresa says, her eyes closed. "That's how I do things. I liked Mina so I asked her out, I like you so I was trying to build up to asking you out... no sense in worrying about it, you know?"
"I guess," I reply.
"But, well... take it at your own pace, and go with what you're comfortable with. As long as you don't end up like Allison, I mean."

We spend the next however long talking about feelings and other embarrassing mushy stuff... but mostly it's Theresa telling me how not to mess up like she did.

"Thanks for the advice, Theresa," I say.
"Anything for a friend!" Theresa replies with a sad smile. "And if ever decide to come around..."
"Yeah yeah," I sigh. "You know, I managed to get Mina to agree to start talking to you again, maybe you two could patch things up?"
"That ship's sailed," she shakes her head. "but thanks. Maybe we can go back to being friends, at least."

She looks really really sad...

"C'mere," I say, holding my arms out at my sides. "Lets hug it out."
"Huh?" Theresa stares at me.
"As friends, I mean. Don't get all creepy on me and start smelling my hair or anything."
"Aw, but your hair's what smells the best," she pouts.

Ignoring that last weirdo comment, I pull her into a tight hug.

I really missed this.

>>
>>33038209
Or they could just say so long, have a nice life?

The instant we got these books was the same time we became unable to do anything about it.

Either we're already safe from people trying to get the books, or we'll never be safe from them.

It's not like there's a network between the organizations that lets them know a book has been recovered.

Let's say we give it to Charlotte, and she goes off somewhere else. Why would the other two from the other faction stop looking? They would have no way of knowing the book was already gone.

Not only that, if an organization had the ability to track down the books to an address, they would have done so by now. The only clue they have that someone has a book is synapse, which isn't even a guarantee.

Honestly, the only people we should keep a book for are those who are determined and forceful enough to get us to admit we got our powers from a book, but not ruthless enough to press us into working for them or killing us once we hand it over.

If we tell either Irene or Charlotte about Theresa, it'll basically be advertising "BOOK HERE, GET YOUR FREE BOOK HERE". Us spontaneously manifesting a Branch is semi-plausible, one of our close friends also doing to during the same three-day period when everyone knows there are Books in town probably won't fly.

We shouldn't tell either of them unless we're prepared to also tell them about her book, because they'd figure it out on their own in two seconds flat anyway.
>>
>>33038386

Which is exactly why this should happen
>>
>>33038386
There's one major inhibitor, though, the whole bit about "no she's mine" even if we try to lie about it.

>>33038334
>It's not like there's a network between the organizations that lets them know a book has been recovered.
>Why would the other two from the other faction stop looking?
They wouldn't. That's why we need protection.

>if an organization had the ability to track down the books to an address, they would have done so by now.
And how long until they get that info? They may not have gotten much from hacking, but they'd know where the server was hosted, and send people to raid it.

>the only people we should keep a book for are those who are determined and forceful enough to get us to admit we got our powers from a book, but not ruthless enough to press us into working for them or killing us once we hand it over.
Which could be both of the factions, leaving us back at square one.

Charlotte is nice, and willing believe it could be a coincidence that we suddenly got powers.
But how long until she gets tired of nothing popping up, or gets wind of Theresa?

Or what if Mina get over her nerves and decides she wants powers too?
How would we explain that to either faction, if they found her suddenly with a branch?

And you know Archibald is pushing as hard as he can to investigate us.
>>
>>33038410
I've been arguing that for the last few threads. Somehow, people think there is any advantage in having two books. Otherwise I cannot see, why people are so adamant about keeping the a secret (until anyone interacts with our friends).

>regarding Theresa/Mina
Each one is sad and has given up about the other coming around. Mina is angry for Theresa not apologizing and takes this to think that Theresa doesn't care about her anymore. Theresa doesn't want to apologize because she doesn't think Mina will ever forgive her. I suggest we force Theresa to apologize. She is so much of an idiot currently. Even if they cannot get together anymore, it's not cool to do something terrible, admit to yourself that you did something terrible, but never apologize. That's grade A terrible friendship behaviour.
>>
>>33038410
So you're saying we should have Charlotte and Theresa "coincidentally" meet and pretend to not know her? sounds like a plan, and it wouldn't take much faking with the whole estranged thing
>>
>>33038291
Hang out with Theresa and increase our power level enough to say, "Don't wind up like Mami."

Also get our own frilly dress.
>>
>>33038334
>It's not like there's a network between the organizations that lets them know a book has been recovered.
They each have an at least somewhat reliably spy network. Which is the reason they know about the book in the first place. If one organization finds it, the others will know in time.

>if an organization had the ability to track down the books to an address, they would have done so by now.
Instead they have sensors that run around until they get a ping. Takes longer, but will find us sooner or later. All of us are bound to certain places after all (our homes, school, etc). It will take longer, some might even give up in time. But there is a very high chance that even more people will find us than already did. It took all of one day for two organizations to find us. In all likelihood someone will find Theresa as well within days.
>>
How the hell did you manage to pick a writing topic with no clear consensus?
>>
>>33038511
What? No. If they actually meet we'll just tell her about the damn book.
>>
Eh, I have plenty of time to spare. And it's been a while since the last time I was able to really hang out here, so I might as well stick around.

"Hey, Theresa?" I say.
"Hm?" Theresa replies.
"About the book... what do you plan on doing with it? I know of two factions that are looking for it right now, and there's no guarantee that more won't show up too."
"I haven't decided yet," she shrugs. "Right now, it's hidden away somewhere that nobody'll find it, I don't want my Mom to go snooping around in my room one day and end up with a Branch too."

At least that's one thing she's being careful about.

"Why do you ask?" Theresa turns to me. "You wanted to try reading it again?"
"Nah," I shake my head. "Just feeling kind of paranoid, that's all."
"Can't blame you there!" she laughs. "But, umm... what did you want to do now? Maybe we could test out your power?"
"Alright," I shrug.

Who wants to throw Theresa the biggest guilt trip by saying the situation between her and Mina is partially Cecile's fault for not meddling sooner? I could see it being something Cecile thinks. Obviously, it's even more Theresa's fault, but Cecile just sat there and didn't do anything about it for a whole year.
>>
>>33039587
I can easily see Cecile thinking something like that, so I don't think it would be out of place to say it.
Might want to wait till we have both of them in the same room though, for max impact.
>>
>>33040225
I think it's best if Cecile bugs out of the room and lets them talk it out alone when they finally get in the same room. Bringing that up makes it about Cecile when it should be about them. It'd make an impact, but not in the right direction.

From what I can tell, the main problem is that Theresa couldn't work up the nerve to apologize, and guilting her would give her more reason to finally do so. Make sure the emphasize that Cecile isn't going to hold her hand, she has to do it on her own. All of it. Meddle time over, ball in Theresa's court.
