The middle of this eight-plus car pileup on the freeway is not the place to be when the cops show up. Well. When more cops show up. The first two aren’t much of a problem anymore. You shiver at the thought and try to keep it from your mind. For now, the thing that demands your utmost attention is getting away from where you are.

>Head for the edge of the elevated highway and jump off. Might be power intensive, but you probably have enough left to manage it.
>The dashboard cam on the cruiser – you have to make sure whatever footage that thing may or may not have caught is destroyed before you go anywhere.
>Run down to the next off ramp. It’s not too far off, and at least it’s not in the same direction as the approaching sirens. Though they kind of seem to be coming from everywhere now.
>Take a minute to resume your human facade. It’s dark, but anything that attracts attention can’t be good when you’ve got who knows how much heat bearing down on you.
>You know what? This is it. You’ve screwed up too much, this time. You can’t run anymore.
>>Maybe you should just let them put you in whatever underground lab they have for people like you.

If we do the former it would be smart to take out the dashboard cam, but I don't think it's something Sierra would think about in the current situation.

You stop yourself before you head to the edge of the elevated highway and leap off – you have to play this cool. It won’t do you any good to run if they have footage of you in the cruiser you wrecked. Just cause it’s on fire doesn’t mean the dash cam isn’t still rolling.

So you head that way, your footing damn unsteady. You feel like there must be rubble or something, since your feet aren’t working like they should be. Instead of your feet, though, you see claws. Like. Your feet are kind of elongated and weird, black and sharp in the same way your claws – your hands – are. The same ragged, blackish flesh creeps up your shins just as it does your forearms.

Your way of walking doesn’t really mesh with the way your feet work anymore, so you have to kind of stay more on the balls of your feel while moving. It’s weird, but you don’t really care right now.

The smell of burnt flesh. The destruction. It’s surreal. You feel like you’re in one of your worse dreams, and you really, really hope you’ll just wake up any second. (-1 Sanity: 89/100)

it certainly doesn’t seem real when you scoot into the fiery interior of the police cruiser. You feel the warmth of the flames wafting over your skin as you reach out for the half-melted dash cam and break it open with your flaws. With a flare of your own power, you incinerate the remains, melting through circuitry and plastic until the remnants are unrecognizable. (-1 PP: 6/26)
>>
>>33459204

You hear the chopper getting closer. Man, you hoped you’d have more time. You hop out of the burning wreck and hoof it to the edge of the highway. A bright star of light shines from above and behind you, and for an instant everything’s illuminated, just before you leap over the edge, and your stomach leaps into your throat in freefall.

But in your haste, you didn’t check what you were jumping down at. Right below you there’s a street light. Slowing yourself down with shadows doesn’t work when there aren’t any shadows to soften your fall. And you are falling. Crap.

You grab at the darkness, and it tears like a curtain under your claws, before suddenly giving out from your fingertips into an empty expanse of orange light. (-5 PP: 1/26) You flail hopelessly and let out a chocked cry before you slam into the pavement. (-9 HP: 11/26)

It takes you a second to remember what’s happening, and you’re not sure you have it all right when you. You’re kind of splayed out on the ground, and one look at your leg says you’re not doing so hot. A sharp piece of something protrudes from the side of your shin, red and kind of glistening. The scent of your blood fills the air. And you still hear that chopper overhead – luckily you’re more out of sight than you were, but your current situation is hardly better.
>>
>>33459178
I'm still pretty suspicious that we talked about it with Wolfgang then next thing we know Waldo's being beaten to death for treachery.

>>33459227

Adrenaline or something is keeping the pain from your mind for the moment. So long as you don’t think about it, maybe it won’t hurt. Right now it just feels kind of numb, though you can still move around. You guess you’re fortunate, or something. Anyway, you’re on an incredibly seedy looking street, for the moment devoid of life, though you could be missing something.

You’re in front of an empty lot, though you see some apartment looking buildings nearby, the windows dark. It’s still early morning, you guess, but you don’t trust yourself with the timing right now. Down the street it looks like there’s some 24 hour store. Somebody’s definitely there – somebody that could help you. You could use somebody’s help, but you don’t want anyone to see you right now, so close to all the mess up on the overpass.

Oh god. What did you? You can't remember anything but fire and blood. (-2 Sanity: 87/100)

You put the questions out of your mind. You must focus, and what better to focus on than your broken leg? You don’t know anything really about first aid, but you are pretty sure your bones shouldn’t be sticking out like that.

You grab your foot with one hand, then place your other on the bone. You pause and take a deep, shuddering breath. What you’re about to do is probably going to hurt a lot. Like. A whole lot. So if you’re really going to go through with it, you’ll need to do it in one go, else you’ll just lose your resolve.

Best to just get it over with. You give your leg a solid jerk, and shove the bone back into your flesh.

Worse pain you have never known. You scream through clenched teeth, your face contorting into an expression of pure agony. And then it’s over.

You feel cold and shaky, and cool sweat drips from your brow, mingled with blood. Okay, you… you can work with this. It’s good. You’re good. You’re okay.

You just have to fix how you look. You can’t do that really without a mirror, but you can at least put the glamor back over your horns and tail, and reform your claws into fingers. Your feet are a different story, but you find they distort back into their original shape without undo effort. You get your skin to go back to almost normal levels, though you can’t get it much better than gray with dark veins.
>>
>>33459988

You manage to get to your feet – or foot, with a heavy limp – and get out of the streetlight. Your leg is bleeding a lot, as are other wounds you can’t see, but it’s what it is. You just… you need to get out of sight, for a second. Just be somewhere not where you are. Somewhere dark and alone, where no one will ever find you, ever again.

You don’t have many options, but you head into the empty lot, toward some construction supplies, coated in graffiti. Every step really, really hurts. Like, really hurts a lot. You probably should be crawling. But you also probably shouldn’t be on the side of the street like you are right now. You probably shouldn’t be here at all.

You eventually make it to the heavy concrete piping and the unoccupied excavator and stuff and sit down with your back against a pile of pallets, covered with a blue tarp. It’s not a comfortable place to sit. There’s like, weeds and bristly pieces of grass sticking out of the dirt, but there’s nowhere else for you. At least you’re facing a blank brick wall, with no windows, so that takes out one direction from which you need to be careful. The wood fencing that runs briefly along the road blocks your view of the street, and the street’s view of you.
>>
Maybe buying Belphegorian powers would help us look human.
>>
>>33460007

You can hear the helicopter flying overhead, but you’re out of sight and hopefully out of mind. Maybe they didn’t see you drop over the edge. Maybe you can just… stay here until… until you’re ready to go somewhere else.

It’s cold, so you draw your knees up to yourself the best you can, though your gimped leg isn’t really cooperating, and you’re in no position to force the issue.

This is bad. This is really, really bad. You can smell people’s blood on you. You don’t recognize whose it is. It’s all over you, everywhere. You can taste it. You want more. But you also don’t want to want it at all. You wish it was getting darker, and not lighter, so you wouldn’t have to notice it’s dark shades in the half-light.

You swear, the sight of it almost makes it so you can remember screaming, even though you don’t remember anything else. (-1 Sanity: 86/100)

You can feel eyes on you. Whose eyes, you don’t know, but you do know you need somewhere better to hide. There’s a flash of light as the helicopter spotlight hovers over your hiding spot, though it stays there just for a second before glancing away someplace else. You look up and reexamine your surroundings. Ahead of you, not too far over open terrain, is more construction work, though the skeletal building will afford some place for you to be.

It’s a force of will to stand, but you do. You can fret and frown later. Now’s just about the basics. Getting out of sight and staying warm. It’s been cold, but not that cold – maybe it’s just because you don’t run around naked in the middle of the night all that often.

You stagger forward, wincing as you put on the speed. Your speed is at best a hobble, but you can’t get spotted by the helicopter. You can’t outrun anybody right now. The best speed you can make is a pained shuffle, so shuffle you do until you pass into the bare boned structure. You bleed a lot on the way – your leg’s a mess. You don’t think moving is on the top tier of smart decisions, right now. (-1 HP: 10/26)

Above the smell of blood, the construction site smells like rust and concrete, which makes sense, because there’s bags of cement and gravel and piles of rebar everywhere. At least there’s a roof over your head now, which should keep the searchlight at bay.
>>
>>33460927

You forge deeper into the building, struggling to keep quiet. You can’t stop making pathetic, pained noises as you go, though. Every time you put weight on your leg, the pain startles you. It’s like, a different kind of pain every time. It’s awful.

You mean to go up the stairs or something, but the sight of the steps causes you physical pain right now. But moving forward, you find there’s a nice alcove under the stairs, as well as like, a workbench and toolbox and stuff, partially covered by another blue tarp. You’ve never really thought much about blue tarps before, but now it clicks that this is probably the best thing right now.

You get over ambitious stumble into the whole setup, knocking the toolbox off the table and onto the ground. There’s a horribly loud jangle of metal before the quiet resumes. Man, you didn’t mean to go that fast. The damage is done, though. Anyway, you yank the tarp off and pull it with you under the shadow of the staircase. Its sharp, plastic texture is like a cotton blanket to you as you cram yourself into the corner. You wrap it about you, covering yourself and giving you some kind of insulation against the night air.
>>
>>33460957

Yeah. This’ll work for now, probably.. You close your eyes and bury your face in your knees, tightening the makeshift blanket about yourself, and causing it to crinkle loudly in the quiet. You’re good. Everything’s under control. Just you in… some construction site, somewhere, with your tarp. Yep. Everything’s just fine.

You sniff suddenly, despite yourself. Your breathing is ragged and almost uncontrollable, and you still feel cold. The tarp helps, though, kind of.

It's not our fault. Meckor trying to kill us is. But our reactions to stress are not normal, and there may be more going on with us that demons like the Crowthers might know about.

The Hallows are great people for helping us understand what we are, but most of their knowledge about demons is, by necessity, how to fight them.

The Crowthers are our best bet for knowing more about our problems.

I'm hoping he's a pragmatic sort of good. Yes, we killed 20 people, but as a necessary part of taking out a dangerous threat, and if calmed down can be used to save more people future.

And, if he hunts us down, we could do even more damage due to panic and might even seriously injure or kill one of them.

>>33461534
Honestly, that's a terrible comparison.

Our problem with Meckor was that he has serious defenses, and we hadn't gotten anything to bypass defenses. Issac's crossbow pretty much ignores protection, so if he can hit it he can hurt/kill it. He's more specialized than we are.

But, we actually stand a good chance of taking him in a fight, especially if we're in a favorable environment. We're pretty much an ambush predator, a dark forest would be perfect for us, he can't see, we can see, smell, and hear, trees give us cover, we can blind him with fire, use shadows against him, wear him down by stealling PP. If he hit us it will hurt, it'll probably ignore Child of Darkness, but if we stack the odds in our favor he'll have a hard time hitting us.

The odds get even better if have Reeber and Zelathis with us, but those are currently in the hands of the Hallows.

I did say 'fully armed and ready Issac'. He was right there, he saw Philo go after us, and it's almost certain he knew we were going to go berserk.

With no task to focus on, you’re left with yourself. Worse, you’re left with what you’ve done. All those people. You… you don’t even know what, but you did. And you killed them. And their blood is like, on your hands, right now. It’s on your face and in your mouth. The metallic aftertaste is still there, on the back of your tongue.

There’s… there’s something wrong with you. Life’s not supposed to be like this. (-2 Sanity: 84/100) You’re supposed to be like, worrying about the environment or like, being pissed that you have forty instead of twenty homework problems due on Monday. You’re not supposed to wonder how many people have died because you’re alive, right now. You’re not supposed to be afraid to be alive tomorrow because of who else you might hurt or maim or tear apart. (-2 Sanity: 82/100)

You’re not some cool, badass half-demon girl. You’re just, not that. You’re not cool at all. Like, it sounds stupid, but you’re not like, a person. There’s no way. People don’t… they don’t do stuff like that to other people. You can’t… it’s not supposed to be like this. Nobody lives like this. You have nothing, right now. The only people that care about you are dead, and really, you should be to.

Everything’d be better if Baron just let you drown in that pool. Or if you’d just drowned with Nevada. If she would have wound up anything like you, right now, you’re glad she’s dead. (-10 Sanity: 72/100)
>>
>>33461768
Oh, I agree that we didn't kill Issac, he probably had backup inbound, and I sincerely doubt that our berserk self would gone after someone who we both liked, and would have been and utter bitch to kill. Especially since we were at so low health at the time.

We probably fled, Hipster and Bug Bitch probably skedaddled after that, they weren't in a good position, but occupied the Hallows enough for us to get some distance.

Then we went for easy prey and has some snacks. Stupid berserk us spent most/all the PP we got from them too, what a bitch.

“That’s not true,” you tell yourself. “You’d switch places with her if she’d, you know, be alive and everything. And not everybody that cares is nailed in a coffin.”

“I guess Cass and Rowan care about you, kind of,” you reply, remembering. “Not… not after this though. I screwed it up.”

You snort at yourself, chidingly. “You should like, at least call, I mean, like, just to tell them what’s up.”

“Yeah, I owe them that much.” You smile. “And they still have Zelathis Lightning Sword and like, my fucking dog, so.”

“Once you’re okay, then,” you say, set on your course of action.

“Wait. Don’t you mean once I’m okay?”

You laugh and cry at yourself. “Man, I’m fucking crazy right now,” you say to nobody. You really shouldn’t be talking to yourself. That’s… that’s not even remotely cool. You bury your face in your tarp and try to not be too loud as you cry. Why is it so fucking cold?

What are you even doing here? You’re not fixing any problems, you’re just hiding from them. You’ve got to get up and do stuff.

In your sudden burst of resolve, you gather your tarp and stand up. Standing makes you go blind with pain, so you sit back down, feeling drained. You feel kind of weaker than you did a while ago. Moving’s not working out so hot. (-1 HP: 9/26)

Things will make sense later, you convince yourself. If you just, you know, kind of close your eyes and think about all the stuff you need to do, you’ll figure out a way to do it without walking. You just… need a phone. And clothes. And a shower. Yeah….

A lot of thoughts run through your mind. Like how you should get out of here. But you know you’re not going anywhere fast, so that option’s off the table. Your best chance is to be quiet and keep a level head. The dog’s going to find you, you’ve left your blood all over your path here. Likely it’s leading somebody along. Not many stray dogs around here. And if anybody finds you, your best chance is to just pretend to be one of the victims. No way they’d think some girl did any of what you did.

Unless they knew, somehow.

The dog gets nearer, and you stay quiet, keeping your shroud around yourself. You hear the sound of boots on concrete after that of the dog. You see a flashlight’s glow, and the rapidly shifting shadow of a running animal. You pull your covering up over your shoulders, as best you can.

Then a German Shepard runs around the edge of the stairs and prances about in place, making whining sounds at you, before running in to lick your face.
>>
>>33462599

You look in confusion at the animal attempting to put its tongue on every square inch of your face. “Reebs?” you croak, unable to summon the strength necessary to keep him at bay. You're so surprised you don't even know what your reaction should be, so you kind of don't react at all.

A figure slides to a halt behind the animal and shines his light in your face, briefly. He has a wide, solid shape to him, and his white hair seems almost luminescent in the darkness. “Thank the Lord,” says Isaac, flicking off his flashlight and letting the blanket of darkness return. “Are you hurt? Can you walk?”

I can't see Sierra lying down and taking it, she might want to die, but she'd still fight to the bitter end, or try to flee.

Well, that's good to know. We can probably stand dropping down into the 50s without things going completely bad-shit-happening levels of weird.

More likely he went after the other demons, he knows that Sierra wants to at least NOT be a murderous psychopath.
>>
>>33462741
Oh, I do. It is just that having someone who we regarded as family pass judgement on us would be pretty tough to live with.
>>

>>33462765
Low 90s is some weird shit, low 70s is talking to yourself...50s would be REALLY bad.
>>
>>33462769
Maybe he is. Maybe he's a hellhound trying to get a sad demon girl to stop crying.

Cause hes still a good boy, and always will be.
>>
>>33462822
It would be bad, but still probably functional in a large set of potential missions. I wouldn't want to have to operate around civilians at that level, but it's not an instant failure/incompetence sentence.
>>
Right about now is when the mind makes weird priorities.

Ask him about Vikrama's car.
>>
>>33462861
It might also be accompanied with increased stress. Think about what talking to yourself during a stressful situation and knowing you aren't supposed to do that might do to Sierra. Increased stress, increased sanity loss, plus we seem to have yet another meter...
>>
>>33462883
Well, we do have that $10000 flag money. We could probably buy her a new used beetle and have most of it left over.

>>
>>33462883

>>
>>33462883
If we're going to ask that, we may as well ask about Ranthix as well, he was our Mother's knight and could be a useful ally.
>>
>>33462883
We're going through a mental breakdown after fighting for our lives and committing mass murder.

I think crying into Reeber and asking between sobs about what are we gonna do about Vik's car makes sense. The mind focus's on really weird shit after severe trauma.

Even better if Isaac has no clue what we're talking about.
>>
>>33459204
> so you have to kind of stay more on the balls of your feel while moving. It’s weird,

This is my default method of walking.
>>
I think Sierra might focus on getting gud at that meditation stuff after this.
>>

I can't imagine anyone meditating and staying calm while being eaten by a swarm of giant centipedes.

Well, maybe Harvey.
>>
>>33463012
>"Oh, dear." said Harvey, as he chambered another round.
>>
>>33463012
That part is over. But some time out in the wilderness with Borya might be in order. I have a feeling that we need to figure out what happens when to chase stress down the negative rabbit-hole & accept who we are.
>>
>>33463012
That's what the meditation is for
>>
>>33463053
>Sierra goes on a spiritual journey
All Sierra needed was a nine foot tall indian man to tell her everything would be alright
>>
>>33463053
I agree on spending time in the wilderness, though we'd still want semi-regular contact with people other than Borya.

But being able to spend our day alternating between hunting down live prey, not the sentient kind, meditation, and napping, would be good for accepting ourself, calming down, and getting our priorities straight.
>>
The suddenness of his speech startles you. “I uh… kind of broke my leg, a little,” you answer, sniffing into Reeber’s neck.

Isaac crouches beside you and pulls out a little penlight thing. “Let’s see it,” he says, pushing the tarp out of the way. He looks at your leg for like, one second. In the light you can see everything pretty much from the knee down is covered in blood. Isaac then turns off the light. “You’re not walking out of here,” he says, taking off a small black backpack that’s been stuffed to the limit.

He produces a big flannel blanket from the pack, which mostly empties the thing, and throws it around you, giving you a second to switch from the tarp to the superior, if itchy, plaid blanket. Once you’re wrapped in the blanket, Isaac tosses the tarp aside and pulls out a little white box from his bag, then pulls a littler white roll of gauze from within the box. “I’m just going to staunch the bleeding for now,” he informs you. Then he swiftly sets to wrapping the wound on your leg. Abruptly, he tears it off from the roll and then tears the strip down the middle, so that he can tie it off.

You frown, then, as he finishes up and starts replacing things in his bag, your breathing ragged. “How’s Vik’s car?” you ask between shaky breaths.
>>
>>33463138
“We’ll buy her a new car,” Isaac replies. Then he kind of helps you get out of your corner, though he has to coax you off of Reeber first. He gets on your bad side and tries to support you, but you kind of trip and he catches you. And then before you get what’s going on, he gets an arm under your knees and one at your back and just lifts you up off the ground, and starts walking off, carrying you in his arms like a kid or something.

Reeber runs ahead and waits for Isaac to catch up before he shoots ahead again and waits some more.

As he goes, you start crying again. You’d probably hate this if you weren’t so damned tired. All you can do is cry and stuff. You keep your eyes shut. So many people. You can smell them on you. The death. “S-sorry,” you sob into Isaac’s chest, tightening the blanket about your body. “I’m sorry.”

Isaac’s reply is barely audible. “I know,” he says. "I'm sorry too."

I am not looking forward to Waldo giving us shit after this.

Fuck that guy then. We wouldn't be here if he didn't get caught like a tool.

That's right, us, we wouldn't be.
>>
>>33463279
Waldric is alive and Meckor is dead, he should be overflowing with gratitude towards us right about now.
>>
>>33463225
The important thing to understand in writing is that shit happens to people. Characters are much simpler then people, but also more extreme in cases. They'll face extraordinary things. And sometimes sad shit fucking happens.

Ultimately, killing the Seer would have shut down Meckor almost completely, and probably would have made things easyish for us. But to do that, Sierra would have had to ask for help. Do you feel Sierra was comfortable with doing so at that time? That she would have reasonably done that?

Fuck what actions would have created some benefit, what would the character do?
>>
>>33463279
He shouldn't. Saved us ass. Got his boss dead. And now he can bone the older bony chick.
>>
Waldric and Moriah's sister are gonna have some freaky kids. Like fuckin' Jace in powerset and likely dickishness levels.
>>
>>33463279
If Waldric gives us shit, he can think about how we just saved his life, that he has a girl and a family he can go back to, that his wounds are only physical, and that he doesn't have to deal with turning into a monster.
>>
>>33463349
>he doesn't have to deal with turning into a monster
I don't think he'd give a shit. Just flip him the bird and tell him we should have not bothered with his bacony ass. Then go cry and eat ice cream.
>>
>>33463225
Yes.

Meckor could have killed thousands of people, if not orders of magnitude more. If his plan went off huge amounts of the nations demonhunting resources would have to be diverted to San Francisco to contain the damage leaving the rest of the country vulnerable.

Both moles were already outed, and either dead or pretty damn close to it. We didn't know whether they had an additional landwell to use or not.

Yeah, we killed people, I'm guessing a couple dozen, and our sanity is in question, but that's manageable fallout rather than an local apocalypse. And maybe it would've still worked out if we took the other option, but we had no way of knowing that. But we made the decision we thought was right at the time, and well, shit happens.

As for becoming a monster, kinda, but all of our current condition monitors can be managed, Bloodlust will probably be one of the easiest to manage once we get past the awkward part of politely asking our friends/allies if we can suck their blood. And don't talk too much about how delicious angelic blood is, that might creep them out.
>>
>>33463153
Another thing to think about in the sequence. If any pictures of Sierra are out there, they most likely will get on TV. If Baron or Vikrama see that...
>>
>>33463369
I don't see him as that cold. He was just between a rock and a hard place, and scared he was going to die, but so were a lot of people. Imagine a demon developing a conscience and going through with something like this.
>>
>>33463319
>>33463225
I remember reading something about if a story makes you genuinely sad - or miserable - it's a successful one.

It was said way more eloquently than that, of course. Thing is, this shit is just the right kind of dramatic if sad.

I'm all for badass hellborn happydays sunday morning cartoons but man, this shit breathes more personality to the characters - not that they didn't have any. Except Harvey. You'll get there, buddy!

I think, I'unno, I think the Hallows and Sierra will figure something out. If Isaac wanted us dead, he could've pulled out the crossbow and finished the job, but he didn't. Instead he picked us up and carried us out, like any dad would.

Sucks I'm on my phone and not on my computer. Don't think that the ones are wrong, but I don't think they are right either. I think we could have avoided this entirely. We had Meckor on the ropes, and we could have won it all in the future. Kill the Seer and Meckor losses her Queen in the proverbial chess board. I feel we paid too much of a price to avoid another fight with the BBEG. We paid too much to avoid an epic fight as well.
>>
On the bright side, the bloodlust meter at least guarantees satisfying brutality when dealing with things that we're supposed/allowed to kill.

>>
>>33463610
You're still looking at this from a detatched, logical standpoint. Yeah, the Seer was totally the correct choice there. But would Sierra have understood that or made that connection?

Sierra may have understood what was happening, and thought herself invincible. She may have been so focused on Meckor that she didn't see the obvious threat. It might have been the smart choice, but not everyone is smart. And now, we're going to see who Sierra really is.
>>
>>33463610
Languid did say that this was actually a pretty good end result. Kind of.

Also stress at 100. Only thing keeping shit from going nuclear the moment in hit that threshold is probably what little meditation training we have.
>>
>>33463916
Not going nuclear at 100 exactly is how things are supposed to work. Read the pastebin. It says that the berserker freakouts only happen when the stress threshold is exceeded, meaning that 101 is the minimum for a freakout.

Possessives on words ending in spite work the same way. It's boss's, not boss'. What works differently is the plural, which would be bosses, and the plural possessive, which actually is bosses', as normal.

I apologize in advance if I came across as condescending. I'm just hoping you'll be pleased about knowing how to do that kind of possessive in English in the future.
