Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you got ready to skip town, ate breakfast, and discovered a vault.

It is currently the 3rd of Svarthi, in the year 936 NH.

You stand before a towering Hiacian gateway, its surface covered in glowing runes and faded text. This stone door is the only thing separating you from whatever treasure lies within, but sadly it seems unlikely that you'll be able to bypass this obstacle. That is, unless you happen to have already or find the key. A task easier said than done, considering it need not even be a physical key. It may be some concept, or descent from someone already long forgotten.

The chamber you stand within is massive, you can't see a ceiling nor any of the walls. It's covered in strange, mutated mushrooms the likes of which one may usually only find in the depths of that accursed realm your people know as the Pa'vala. Spikes longer than you are tall protrude from their surface, and the flesh beneath their caps glows with a soft, blue radiance.

Taking a moment to examine the writing on the surface of the gate, you find that it reads 'Whosoever Wields the Key, Shall Own My Contents'. It's written in Old Hiacian, the paint long since faded. You're familiar with the transcription from old legal documents and various ancient inscriptions upon the surface of chest and other such containers.

Chryssa comes to stand next to you, running her fingers across the rough stone surface of the gate. “As I said, a vault. I am unsure what it might contain. What do you think, Mikhael?”

A deep, rumbling voice reverberates through the chamber, shaking the very ground you stand upon. “Yes, Mikhael. What do you think of my little secret? I see that I should have kept it better hidden.”

You recognize the voice immediately, it belongs to the spirit which dwells within your estate: Mahana Atma'agaprthvi. That fucking cat. You call out in no particular direction, unsure of where the spirit might be hiding. “I wouldn't exactly call a dark corridor in a series of otherwise well lit tunnels 'hidden', Spirit. You may as well have posted a sign at the entrance proclaiming to the world that something interesting lies within this chamber. I believe you neglected to mention that there was a vault on the premises of my estate.”

The spirit's voice once more shakes the chamber. “I was not obligated by the terms of our contract to reveal all of the facilities you had access to, nor is this technically a facility which you have access to. The gates remain locked. My guess was incorrect.”

Making a note to be more pedantic in your future dealings with spirits, you ask the begged question. “What was your guess?”

This time instead of the spirit's response coming in the form of an earth-shaking voice with no obvious source, a fat orange tomcat steps out from behind one of the strange spiked mushrooms which cover the floor of the chamber. It sits down next to its hiding spot, licking its paw and passively cleaning itself. Its voice is a quiet purr, echoing faintly in the vastness of the chamber. “I guessed that unlocking the book would unlock this vault. I was wrong. I hoped to continue my search for the key in secret, but that seems unlikely now that the mutant has revealed its existence. Thus, I propose a partnership.”

(2/3)
>>
You glance up at the sheer stone surface, examining the shifting green glow of the runes which adorn the vault's door. “What are your terms then, Spirit? I will hear you out, at least.”

The cat daintily places its paw down on the stone floor of the chamber, tail swishing impatiently back and forth. “You will allow me to remove one item from within the vault should you ever discover the key. Any item of my choosing. The rest will be yours to do with as you please. In exchange, I will reveal to you what I know of the vault and its contents, and my theories regarding the key.”

you do know the reason he didn't do threads was because he was behind on work, he was only sick for a day or two.

It seems like we keep getting better resistance and treatments for our entity-related insanity so going to the pavala is a lower priority for me now. I want to git really fuckin gud before we go there and a trip to elaudia would be a decent way to do that

>>38615314
As much fun as that would be to watch we've been preparing for and talking about the desert so much now I really can't wait much longer until we actually go there. I hope the upcoming solo interlude we're about to embark on doesn't take too many threads.
Who am I kidding, the fractal sidequest chain is about to start up again in full force as Soma keeps dangling plot hooks in front of our eager mouths.

You eye the cat warily, glancing towards Chryssa to get her input on the situation. She stares at you utterly nonplussed for a moment before shrugging her shoulders, her voice filtering through the connection afforded to you by the brooches. {I am not sure, it seems like a fair deal to me.}

You turn your attention back to the spirit, calling out across the room. “What is this item you so desire, Spirit? I trust there is in fact more than one item in the vault. That is the case, correct?”

The spirit's purring voice once more carries across the chamber. “The item I desire is an artifact most ancient. Said to have been created before the Tribe of Al-Hikar rose to prominence in the fertile valley of the river Hiacia. A small, oblong silver bead. That is all I desire. The vault itself is said to contain the vast wealth of a tribe now forgotten by mortals and kept secret by the Progenitors. I cannot imagine that the item I desire was the whole of their wealth.”

You're still not entirely convinced this is a good idea. “What does the bead do, exactly? I think it would be most unwise to give you some ancient artifact capable of leveling cities or controlling minds or some other such nonsense.”

The cat's tail begins swishing more rapidly. “I am unsure of what the artifact does, precisely.”

You sigh in exasperation, pinching the bridge of your nose and channeling vys. You feel your thoughts accelerate, rapidly collating all that you know of the vault and the Rhynian vault you previously explored, which you would bet is similar in nature to this one.
>Vys Pool: (45/49)

(1/2)
>>
>>38615467
its gonna be brought down to a 6 in a few days.
its all ready been 2-3 days i believe.
>>
Once you've collected your thoughts, you speak. “Look, I am doing my level best to retain some semblance of civility but you are making it very difficult. You wouldn't ask me to let you retrieve this little bead of yours unless you had some inkling of an idea what it did. Share with me those ideas of yours or I'll happily take my leave. It's not like you've produced any compelling reason for me to seek out this key in the first place. So far all you've told me is that finding the key will make you more powerful and probably, but not certainly, make me more wealthy. Another thing, what in Pani's domain made you think that the book was somehow related to the vault?”

The cat's voice shifts, losing the purring softness it had previously carried and once more returning to its full, earth-shaking force. “I believe the bead may contain within it a portion of my divine essence, and I wish to consume the artifact so that I might regain that portion of myself and finally return to my full, resplendent glory. I have been trapped for too long within these tunnels. Had your estate's slave passages not breached the catacombs even its grounds would be lost to me.”

You take all that in, swiftly formulating a response. “You still haven't offered me any compelling reason to seek out this key. You need me, as you yourself have revealed. You're trapped within these catacombs and my estate. So what makes you believe that the bead you seek lies within this vault, and what else does this vault contain?”
(2/3)
>>
The spirits voice calms, returning to a quiet purr. “I cannot shed any light onto the vaults remaining contents but I can feel the portion of myself I surrendered sitting within, just beyond my reach. Should you unlock the vault and find within that the item I seek is the only item it contains, I will reveal to you further knowledge of the Gods' Tongue as just compensation for your service to me. Is this fair?”

You realize with no small amount of annoyance that it promised to reveal what it knew of the vault's contents, when in fact it barely knew anything at all of the vault's contents.

I am a little pissed we didn't negotiate for more than just runes.
This is RESTORING the spirits power to him.
A power he needs.
Part of him.
While I like that we're being civil and we need to be, I would have negotiated for his mark of protection.
But sadly I didn't make it in time. Possibly if we find the key. I don't think we've made a contract yet. So we might be able to.

I don't a reason not to make the effort of actually looking for the key. >>
You fold your arms in front of your chest, leaning your weight back on one foot. “Very well, Spirit. I will seek out the key to this vault and allow you to pick one item from inside in exchange either for the rest of the contents or further knowledge of the runic script. Now, what do you know of the vault and what are your theories regarding the key?”

The cat vanishes, and for an instant you think you've been cheated. You're momentarily blinded by a bright flash of white light, your eyes taking several moments to adjust to the sudden illumination. When finally the spots fade from your vision, you find yourself stairing into a massive golden screen, tendrils of black slowly stretching across its surface like so many creeping vines. Gradually the illusion resolves itself into figures, and a scene begins to play out across the golden surface.

“In a time before recorded history, your people rose to prominence as builders of cities, conquerors of land, and shapers of magic. It was a time when gods still dwelled within their palaces and competed for the attentions of mortal worshipers. The Tribe of Al-Sankar were the rulers of all they surveyed, from the vast river Avadya in the distant east, to the sea in the west, and the mountains in the north. Only the peoples of the south resisted their dominion, and it would not be for long.”

Lavish robes of rich blue and deep purple etch themselves across the bodies of the figures, which are depicted as reclined. Slaves attend to them with bowls outlined in black, feeding them some substance you're unfamiliar with. It appears to be some sort of paste which they smear upon their master's lips, allowing it to evaporate.

(1/3 or 4)
>>
>>38617251
>in exchange either for the rest of the contents or further knowledge of the runic script.
WTF soma
>>
“The southern peoples were divided among many tribes, constantly warring among themselves. The Al-Sankar allied themselves with certain tribes, incorporating them into their vast empire and using them as their main fighting force as they conquered the southern lands valley by valley, mile by mile. The Al-Hikar were the most powerful of the southern clans, and formed a coalition to combat the Al-Sankar. Though they numbered in the hundreds of thousands, each one of them a talented warrior proven in war, at every meeting of their forces with the forces of the Al-Sankar, they were routed.”

The scene shifts gradually into an image of a single man in black robes, his hand outstretched. Flame leaps from the tips of his fingers, but you find the images of men fleeing before him far more interesting. They're depicted in armor not dissimilar to your own Warlock Armor, though far more simplistic. What's more important, they're riding atop the backs of dragons. Dragons like Zahak, with only a pair of hind legs rather than the usual quadrupedal form.

“The secret of the Al-Sankars' strength lies within their mastery of the divine. They worshiped exclusively a goddess of great power. She granted their enchanters the ability to safely manipulate the divine essence of spirits, rather than merely their own souls. It allowed her followers to enslave even the greatest of spirits to their will, or to destroy spirits and use their essence to create the most powerful artifacts the world had ever seen. For this the other gods resented her, and sought to cast her down. In order to see this brought about, the other greater gods aligned themselves with the tribe of Al-Hikar, and granted them three boons.”

(2/3 or 4)
>>
>>38617279
That was what he said.
>>
>>38617279
That's what we agreed upon you retard
>>
The image on the golden screen is replaced by a depiction of a vast sea of men and women, their faces turned upward in awe to stare at some unseen figure. Dragons, all of them lacking forelimbs, are depicted scattered throughout the crowd. The figure at the front of the crowd, in the center of the image, is depicted in a set of primitive Warlock Armor, lacking greaves, pauldrons, or bracers and with a helmet that lacks a mask, a long braid of hair extending down his back.

“First, they granted the Al-Hikar the boon of lesser immortality. Though still prone to disease and violence, and they still suffered from the ravages of time, they would not die of old age. Second, the gods granted the Al-Hikar the boon of magical affinity. Every one of them would be born with the potential to become a Cetakya; what you would know as a Vatis. Third, they gave to the chieftain of the Al-Hikar a suit of armor which no spirit or god, no matter how great, could damage in any way.”

The screen vanishes, though the cat does not reappear. Its voices continues to echo through the chamber seemingly without any source. “So the Al-Hikar conquered their ancient foes, and the Al-Hikar wiped all traces of their once great civilization from the surface of the Earth. The goddess which had granted the Al-Sankar their abilities was cast out of this reality, forced to wander that which was before for all eternity. The tribes which participated in the battle, the Al-Hikar chief among them, met upon the site of the Al-Sankars' capital city and erected a vault amidst the ruins. Within it they stored the treasures of a people once great, artifacts their gods viewed as anathema. This is that vault, and I want what they took from me. I believe the key to be the armor worn by the chieftain of the Al-Hikar.”
(3/4)
>>
The voice fades. You wait for it to say something more, but after several minutes of silence you decide that is all you're getting from the spirit. You call out into the vastness of the chamber. “What about the book? You never told me why you believe it was connected to this vault!”

Unfortunately you're met with silence.

I think the only mention I've made of any sort of 'armor granted by the gods' was a suit of armor said to be housed within a temple in Elaudia granted to the natives by the Many-Faced Constant, Dhatu. At least, they CLAIM it was armor granted to them by Dhatu. You learned that from Lord Hodei of Anthus, who has been on hunting expeditions in Elaudia and was refused access to the armor by the natives whom he employed as guides.

Anyway, writin' for drop off gold and chill.

I don't think the terms "Greater Immortality" and "Lesser Immortality" imply that you never die. Simply that you age at a much slower rate, more or less so depending on which boon you get.

And you can certainly still be killed because you don't have the "God Immortality" which is the type where you just can't die.

Or, so I think. Seems we have a dead god in this story line so maybe thats wrong too.

I say that because he was an anomoly amongst a very long lived people. He lived hundreds of years past their normal lifespan. That must have been because of an artifact or a boon.

You turn your attention to Chrys, who seems just a little awestruck. She's staring at you with one eyebrow raised, her posture stiff. You imagine her reaction would be much the same if you grew wings or if your arms fell off. “Well, that was informative. Shall we head back to the estate? I'd like to wait until my traveling clothes are delivered before I head off in search of a captain to take me north.”

Chrys nods her head slowly, stepping forward to walk beside you as you make your way towards the entrance to this vast chamber. You pause before one of the giant poisonous mushrooms, taking a moment to draw a dagger from its sheath on your hip. Chryssa's voice echoes through the silence of the chamber as you start to cut away at the mushroom. “Why do you think the gods stopped interacting with mortals? It is clear that at one point they were very active in this world, but have since lost interest.”

Whilst formulating your response, you carefully slice off the tip of one of the spikes protruding from the mushroom, a black ooze leaking from the wound as you saw away at the flesh of the mushroom cap. Then you cut off a glowing blue spot from the flesh of the mushroom's ribbed stem, the substance which oozes from the wound dark grey instead of black. You're careful to avoid touching either substance, but assumed that Mortia would be interested in samples.

Wiping the blade of your dagger off on the cap of the mushroom and tucking it into your sheathe, you answer Chrys. “I don't know. Perhaps after the disasters that led to the destruction of the Rhynian and Hiacian Empires, they withdrew from the world. Perhaps some sort of treaty was signed between those that remained to stay out of mortal affairs. Maybe they just got bored and decided to create a new reality somewhere else. Maybe they're dead, or sleeping. I doubt we'll ever really know, nor am I certain that I'd wish to know. It seems like whatever the cause we mortals would find it terribly depressing.”
(1/3)
>>
>>38619275
what would happen to anything like food or bugs that go up the other end?
>>
Samples in hand, you pass swiftly through the tunnel you entered the chamber through and once more enter the slave passages of your estate. Chryssa takes the lead, guiding you along the relatively simple path to the secret door you entered the slave passages through. You emerge from the hidden tunnels into the empty library, shutting the sliding door behind you so that it appears as only a smooth portion of wall.

Chryssa stops in the hallway just outside the library, turning towards you. “I believe I will excuse myself to wash. If it is not too much to ask, I would speak with you before you leave.”

You shrug your shoulders. “Sure, that would be fine. I'll contact you via the brooches when I'm about to head out in search of a captain to take me north. Oh, and I'm going to drop off your money as well as the money of our other companions in piles in my bedroom. I'll have your name spelled out in silver so you can tell the piles apart.”

She nods, and the two of you part ways. You make your way towards your bedroom while Chryssa heads for the baths. As you push the door open, you're greeted by Zahak. He pounces off of the bed, wings snapping outward to allow him to glide across the room. Rather than crashing into you he slams into the floor with a heavy thud just in front of you, nudging his head against your abdomen.

His voice pushes excitedly into your thoughts. {I wanna go outside! I wanna go outside! Can I go flying? It's been a really long time since I got to fly! I'm booored!}

You sigh whilst making your way over to your chest of drawers and retrieving your cloak, going through the motions of setting it flat against the ground and whipping it away to reveal stacks upon stacks of gold coins, each one crowned with silver which spells out Chrys, SK, Fulvia, or Prof. Once you deposited the contents of the First National Bank of Void Cloak on the floor of the room, you consider your response to Zahak whilst he's distracted staring hungrily at the piles of cash.

Pick Three, one from each category:

>Sure, he can go out flying. However, he can only fly at night.

I'd like to suggest

we get Metal up to the point where we can fortify and defend our mind

Ask our master to help us practice this with him trying to intrude, read, or influence our mind etc

Then after we got some experience we pour a good chunk of our Vys into fortifying and meditate on the book

Thoughts?

You crouch down, bringing yourself to eye level with Zahak. Scratching at the base of his horns you consider his request. Ultimately, you don't see anything wrong with the idea so long as certain precautions are taken. “You can fly about outside, but only at night and you must stay invisible when flying over the city itself. It would be bad if someone spotted you soaring through the air and put two and two together. Oh, and if you sense any other dragons in the area you're not to leave the estate, or if you're flying about when you sense the other dragon you're to return to the estate immediately. Also, never fly more than two hours from the estate, and I would prefer it if you always told Chryssa before leaving. Understood?”

Zahak bumps the top of his head into your chest, his voice pervading your thoughts. {I understand, Papa. I'll always tell Chryssa before I leave and I'll only go out when it's dark and I'll never go too far from home and I won't mess with others of my kind because they might hurt me or try to take me away.}

You stand up, withdrawing the Ritual Book of Surya from your cloak and carefully navigating the piles of gold and silver to make your way over to your bed. You toss the cloak down on the chest of drawers and crawl on top of the covers, kicking off your boots and making yourself comfortable. Zahak joins you a few short moments later. As you're about to crack open your book, a thought occurs to you. You still haven't told Zahak that you're leaving.
(1/2)
>>
>>38620424
Don't forget they are searching for us since we are the last known person to have the heart.
>>
Reaching across the bed to scratch at the base of his horns, you push your thoughts through the connection you share with your adoptive son. {Listen, Zahak. I need to leave for a short while to take care of some business in the North. I need to speak with an associate about a business deal and take care of something for Chryssa. It shouldn't take too long, but I'll likely be gone for at least a week, perhaps two at most. I leave later today, or tomorrow at the latest.}

Zahak perks up, his claws digging nervously into the silken sheets of your bed. {Can I come with you? I don't want you to leave again! It's really lonely when you leave because nobody else spends time with me...}

You pat Zahak on the head affectionately. {You'll get a chance to come with me on an adventure sometime soon, promise. It's just this time I need to head off on my own to finish a few things that I started. I've asked my friends to keep you happy and entertained, so you won't be alone like you were last time. If you do feel like you're being neglected just tell Chryssa to tell me and I'll chew out my companions for you.}

Zahak seems to accept this, though he doesn't seem wholly happy about it. He rest his head against one of your pillows, tendrils of smoke slowly curling from his nostrils. You wonder if that's his equivalent to a moody sigh, or just a facet of him being a dragon.

Cracking open your book you turn your attention to the ink sprawling its way across the pages. When last you left off in your reading, you had just started reading up about the political situation of Surya's church at the time of this book's writing. Apparently the 'Moabadan-moabad' had just been kicked off of the Shah's council, and the deposed Moabadan called a council to discuss how to respond to this slight against their faith. They possibility of open revolt against the Shah was discussed, but ultimately discarded. Instead the Church of Surya became a purely religious institution, removing themselves from politics and abolishing the position of Moabadan-Moabad, which seems to have been some sort of High Priest of Surya.

The next page begins a new chapter, but it's fairly dull. You find yourself flipping through pages upon pages of revenue reports for a temple dedicated to Surya. You do note with some curiosity that Suryan temples make loads of money from the donations of Herbad who go off to war, dying in the fighting. Apparently all of their worldly possessions passed to the temple upon their death, and the temple usually sold whatever it was they owned. You weren't aware that Suryan monks were able to own property outside of temples.

(1/3)
>>
They also earned coin through more traditional means; funeral services, church functions, serving as cheap hostels, raiding across the border. Apparently this particular temple was a major shareholder in a number of large iron and copper mines in the foothills and in the mountains.

The next chapter is similarly pretty much irrelevant to your interest. It's simply a roster of the temple's members and various honors they've been awarded. Who died, who had kids, so on and so forth. You do note with some interest that the Abdul-Hakims are well represented, you see four of your family mentioned at least once, three Herbads and a Moabad. Whether they're actually your distant relatives or members of one of the many, many common branches of the Abdul-Hakim tribe, you can't be sure.

The third chapter is yet another chapter you don't really have any true interest in. It's just acknowledgments, thank yous, and the like. Where the author bought the materials he used to make the book, who helped him with the book, where he was from. Apparently the author was the Dastur, a sort of regional governor, of Norther Pidjata around seven hundred years ago. You wonder absentmindedly if this book is a copy or the original. Perhaps during that period the Temple in the Fortress of Eshnuk was still active?

You expect that to be the end of the book, however upon flipping the last page you find that the remaining three chapters seem to have been added in by later owners of the tome. They're notes, annotations, and other such miscellany. They prove to be quite interesting, as a matter of fact. At least, the portion that you manage to read. It seems that the first owner of the tome was a Moabad in the Fortress of Eshnuk, who took extensive notes on his use of the techniques contained within.

(2/3)
>>
The Moabad suggest that the suggestions for meditations earlier in the tome ought to be avoided, as they're essentially suicidal unless one is already a skilled Fire Vatis when they begin using them. The Moabad also suggest that, in attempting to manipulate the air in the manner suggested by this tome, most will be better served trying to make a whirling vortex of hot and cold air by heating air near the ground and cooling air higher up. He claims that through this method he managed to create a dust vortex which was quite useful for blinding opponents.

He even illustrated the concept and explained why it works, claiming he was inspired by cyclone of air he saw tossing about a discarded bit of paper in the noon heat just outside the temple door. You make a note to give it a try sometime, though you doubt you could manage it without really focusing and you're not sure you want to try it out in your bedroom.
>Ritual Book of Surya: (14/16 Chapters Read)

You note that the writing style changes drastically after a certain page, but before you can read further a knock interrupts you. Shutting the book with a soft thud you drop it into your cloak and make your way across the room, jerking your door open to find a thin, elven woman standing outside your door. She couldn't be more than five and a half feet tall, and her ears are barely any longer than a human's. She thrust a neatly folded stack of clothes towards you, bowing low. You take them gratefully and shut the door on her without a word.

You make your way over to your bed and set down your new clothes, taking a moment to shed your robes and your underrobes. Glancing towards Zahak, you instruct him to close his eyes before shedding your white silken trousers and quickly replacing them with a set of brown cotton pants you recently bought. The trousers are tailored, so they fit you beautifully. The material is surprisingly comfortable as well. Nowhere near as nice as silk, but at least it's not wool.

That done you don a black linen shirt and your leather vest, lacing it up. You find that the shirt fits you loosely while the vest fits you tightly, forcing you to tuck your shirt into your trousers. You end up cutting a rather dashing figure, if only due to the way the tailor cut the clothing. You fasten your trousers with a drawstring which is looped inside a pocket that wraps around the hem of the garment. Finally you wrap the long white cloth around your head, layering it in such a way that it binds your hair within the folds of the cloth and hangs around your neck, so that you can pull it up to cover your mouth and nose should the need arise.

You've heard that among certain tribes which keep to the nomadic ways of your ancestors, for a man to reveal his mouth and nose to those outside of his immediate family is to bring himself shame. Supposedly there are ways of wrapping a turban which produce specific patterns which have come to indicate different tribal allegiances. The color is also significant; the darker the turban is died, the wealthier the wearer is said to be. You chose white specifically because it would make you seem common. Of course, the traditional significance attached to this specific style of turban have since faded from most of your people's memories.
(1/6)
>>
The last thing you do is tuck your spare clothes and your expensive robes into your cloak and drape the long, black garment across your shoulders, fastening it with your brooch. Thus garbed, you scratch at the base of Zahak's horns. “I need to get going, Zahak. Be good, and listen to what my companions tell you. Don't break anything. Be careful when you leave the estate. I'll be back soon.”

He pushes the top of his head into your palm in response and you make your way to the door. He crawls off the bed to follow you, slinking out into the hall after you. Seems he wants to follow you as far as the door. That's fine, he is your adoptive son after all and you've left him to his own devices an awful lot.

You reach out to Chryssa via the brooches as you reach the grand dining hall, stopping in front of the door to the entry hall. {I'm about to head out in search of a captain to take me north and probably won't be returning to the estate. Does this conversation need to be kept private, or can I invite the others down to say goodbye?}

Chryssa's response comes promptly. {Feel free to invite the others, I am drying off and will be with you as soon as I have dressed myself. I do not intend on discussing anything of particular import, I merely desire to wish you well in your travels.}

You reach out to the rest of your companions via the brooches. {Alright, folks. I'm about to head off for a week or two to handle my business up in Anthus. If you've got anything to say, say it now. Oh, and I left your respective funds in my room stacked up high. Your names are on each pile. Also Mortia, I have some samples for you.}

Jesus fucking christ Soma. How long did you take to research dressing customs of ancient Arabic civilizations?
>>
You're met by a chorus of declarations that your companions are on their way. Darzi is drying off after her own bath and will be with you shortly along with Chrys. Profectus was just about to head off to meet up with Mohan and Ismail so he was coming down anyway. Mortia and Skull Kid are making poor progress so they don't mind abandoning their work for a moment to say goodbye. Fulvia simply states that she is on her way.

Profectus is the first to arrive. He grabs you by the forearm and pulls you into a half-hug, patting you affectionately on the back before parting. “Good luck, Mik. Don't go having too much fun without me. You know, I almost joined the navy. Almost. The only thing that dissuaded me was a rumor I heard about the navy's practice of having sailors screw their bunk mates. Not my thing, you know? Anyway, don't go homo on me is what I'm saying.”

You merely chuckle, shrugging your shoulders. “I'll do my best, I suppose. I doubt you have anything to worry about in that regard. Samjan sailors lack the reputation for debauchery that it seems like most Human and Elven sailors enjoy. If anything they're usually fairly somber individuals, if somewhat more fond of whores than most.”

Fulvia, Mortia, and Skull Kid all arrive at once. Mortia pulls you into a tight hug where as Skull Kid merely nods in acknowledgment and Fulvia stares at you passively. Skull Kid is the first to speak. “Good luck abroad, man. I hope to have plans drawn up and a site picked for the desalination plant by the time you get back. Bring me back something cool to fuck around with if you can.”

Mortia doesn't seem nearly as interested in your impending departure as Skull Kid, which is saying something because he didn't seem all that interested. “You have samples for me? What are they? Where did you get them? What do they do?”
(3/6)
>>
You reach into your cloak and extract the two cuttings you got from the giant mushroom. “I found these in the slave passages, they're from a breed of giant mushroom you usually only find in the Pa'vala. The pointy piece is poisonous, and the ribbed piece is said to have healing properties. I've never tried either, so I can neither confirm nor deny these claims. I'll leave that in your competent hands.”

She snatches the samples from your hands excitedly, examining them with a sort of eager glee you'd usually expect to see coming from young children who've just been giving the toy they always wanted. She pulls you into yet another tight, affectionate hug before scampering off towards the stairwell with mushroom cuttings in hand.

Fulvia, nonplussed, merely bows her head. “I wish you luck in your journeys north. Please be sure to return to us safely, I would not wish to work with anyone else.”

Profectus excuses himself, slipping out the door. Skull Kid and Fulvia do the same but instead of heading for the foyer they head for the stairs to catch up with Mortia. They pass Darzi and Chryssa coming down the stairs on their way. You note with some curiosity that both Darzi and Chryssa are wearing loose silk robes, Darzi's red where as Chryssa's is black, and seem to have just stepped out of the baths.

Darzi hugs you briefly when she draws near, smelling of scented oils and bath salts. “Don't go getting yourself in trouble without us there to bail you out! No burning anything down, and behave yourself! I don't want to hear about you getting arrested by the city guards because you called some important magistrate an incestuous fuck-stick or some other such nonsense.”

(4/6)
>>
You sigh perhaps melodramatically. “Gods above, Darzi. I didn't realize you were my mother. I guess what you're trying to say is don't have any fun at all while I'm abroad? I mean, what am I supposed to do if I can't burn anything down or insult pompous asses?”

Darzi slaps you lightly on the chest. “Find something else! None of us will be able to reach you in anything resembling a timely manner. Besides, you need to set a good example for Zahak.”

Chryssa declines physical contact, instead merely folding her hands in her lap while you and Darzi banter back and forth. However, as Darzi steps away Chrys steps forward and places a brief, timid kiss upon your lips. Nothing at all like the first time she kissed you. Much like Darzi she smells of lavender scented oils and exotic bath salts, her lips tasting faintly of rose water.

You're taken by surprise at first, and find yourself casting a glance around the room to ensure that none of your servants were there to see the exchange. You're relieved to see that besides Chryssa, Darzi, and yourself the room is empty. Darzi seems utterly nonplussed. The bhataki have always had strange traditions concerning mixing with outsiders. It rarely comes up in their culture, what with being nomads mostly confined to Pidjata, but they have no formal rules against mixing with those 'outside the tribe'. In the past this has been extended to Humans and Elves as well as other Samjan.

>Mortia pulls you into a tight hug

Oh my. how shameless she is.
>>
You have to admit, you didn't find the contact wholly displeasing. It wasn't like before, which felt like she was forcing herself upon you. Rather it was shy and affectionate, you'd go as far as saying it was cute. Of course, you're still not wholly certain how you feel about Chrys. At some point you're going to need to nut up and either decide you want to give a relationship of some sort a try and avoid violating one of the most important cultural taboos your people have and tell her you don't appreciate her advances.

Last valid vote, coming in at exactly the 5 minute mark to the second.

You hold up a hand, begging pause. “Be careful doing that sort of thing in public. I don't know if Darzi has informed you of my people's customs, but getting involved with a non-Samjan could see me executed. Well, at least it could see the order for my execution being issued. I wouldn't go quietly to my death while I've still got so much to do.”

Chrys scrunches her brow together, turning her attention towards Darzi. “I had not been informed that your peoples distaste for the other races was codified in law. I merely thought it was a common cultural motif.” Darzi glances away, clearing her throat while Chrys once more turns her attention to you. “Regardless, I will keep that in mind and I apologize for putting you at risk. It is a relief to know that interest in me is a taboo, and your seeming disinterest is not due to some fault on my part.”

Well, technically it is due to a fault on her part. The fault being her race. However, that hardly seems like an appropriate thing to say at a time like this. Besides, you're not exactly the sort to buy into your peoples various and manifold cultural taboos. You don't even honestly hold humans and elves to be all that inferior to Samjan, though they're without a doubt inferior to some degree. Your companions at least have proved competent enough and they've supported you far more than your own people, with the exception of your family of course.

Oh, and I've permitted Zahak to fly around the city at night so long as he remains invisible while above the city proper and doesn't stray more than an hour from the estate. Chrys, he'll be informing you before he leaves each night, if he decides he wishes to leave. Should you feel it unwise to allow him to leave, you may forbid him to do so. However, I ask that you only do this if there is a very clear threat to his safety.”

Zahak squeaks from his position half-hidden behind your legs, his voice pushing its way into your mind and presumably into the minds of Darzi and Chrys. {Yeah! I'll be good, I promise! I can make myself invisible and I can go really fast and I can fly really high and nobody will be able to catch me, I promise!}

Bending over to scratch at the base of Zahak's horns one last time, you slip through the door into the entry hall. When finally you emerge from the front door of your estate into the city beyond, you find that the fishermen have just come in with the noon tide to unload their first catch of the day. That presumably means that merchant captains will be preparing to cast off in the next few hours. This in mind you make for the Port of El-Amin, the massive collection of piers and drydocks which surrounds the Market District.

Thanks for running. Have you fulfilled your quota of frustration and annoyance for this year's druid hex battle Soma?
>>
>>38624187
How was that a compromise? You only wrote the anti-chrys option
>>
>>38624205
Thanks for the run boss
>>
>>38624229
I actually do have a campout coming up where I'll make the usual seasonal libations to the old gods coming up.

>>38624235
Nah, the anti-Chrys option would have been
>"We really shouldn't. You're a human, it's not appropriate."
>>
>>38624205
Thanks for running, also how come you included that homo subject from Prof, when he admitted to swinging both ways a while back?
>>
>>38624252
If I remember correctly he just jokingly claimed he was into butt stuff. You don't necessarily have to be gay to like butt stuff.
>>
>>38624205
That isn't a compromise, and thats the anti-chrys option, where is the part where we accept it?
>>
>>38624251
Is it Friday?
>>
>>38624251
Leaned pretty heavily towards the anti-chrys option for a tie.
>>
>>38624264
Figured he was talking about guys since he was talking about being forced to bend over and taking it in the ass, and how it isn't so bad.
>>
>>38624266
I think its more of Mik implied he did have interest only that he was keeping distance cause of customs.
>>
>>38624205
Thanks for the run Soma. Don't meditate too close to the Gates of Shipostya. They'll ruin your sanity.
>>
>>38624268
Nah, not until April I don't think.

>>38624281
Not really Anon. If anything, the qualifier "in public" implies that doing so in private is A-OK.

>>38624288
I don't honestly remember what thread that banter occurred in but I could've sworn there was no mention of force and I don't think I said bend over. I think it was just a one-off quip about anal.
>>
>>38624266
Read like Mik was interested but was being clear she needed to be careful in public with that shit
>>
>>38624264
Is Master gonna tap Dat Ass?
Will prof get his girl in time?
Will fulvia and SK actually get shit done?
>>
>>38624311
>expecting anons to pick up on subtle language clues
soma that's silly
>>
>>38624311
It was when we played the oud as battle music for Mortia, she threatened to ram it up our ass, prof said you usually pay extra for that
>>
>>38624235
>>38624266

Doesn't really give a fuck about race but is still wary about being executed. Didn't return her show of affection outright but didn't reject her either while providing Chrys with context as to why that sort of thing is necessary. It works.
>>
>>38624205
Okay so where is the second part where he says its ok?
>>
>>38624347
See >>38624311
>>
>>38624346
vote was
>fuck off
>ay yo girl
No matter how soma writes it neither side gets what they wanted.
>>
>>38624328
Who knows~?
Tertia is pretty competent despite her predisposition towards pacifism, so most likely. Some rolls will be made to determine certain things but I wouldn't worry about it were I you.

>>38624347
Explicitly stating that intimacy is OK with Mik would be going full bore with the pro-Chrys option.

>>38624346
This nigga gets it.

>>38624341
That's it, I remember now. So yeah, not necessarily a gay thing but definitely a weird thing.

>>38624347
>>38624266
>>38624235

You guys are as dense as your waifu.
>>38624372

Soma said he wouldn't make it that harsh in anyway.

Well it works for now until we get another sudden death vote bitchfest. Soma, next time just flip for it so we can finally be done with this
>>
>>38624439
That would make an even bigger shitstorm
>>
>>38624439
I'll be sure to buy some virgin goats for the sacrifices that will be needed to btfo waifu shit
>>
>>38624381
Can we tell darzi whats in our thing from Kadir so that she knows to mention that shit towards chryss.
>>
>>38624462
You really don't trust Soma to put his foot down if romance gets in the way too much huh?
>>
>>38624489
No. Soma feeds upon our shitposting.
>>
>>38624500
Not enough to compromise his whole quest.
>>
>>38624381
I think you compromised very well with combining those two options Soma. That conversation went very good in my opinion.

I'm excited for adventure!
>>
>>38624508
He has been in worse quest, and i don't think he can handle the level of shit he is used to in those quest.
>>
>>38624464
What thing with Kadir? Like, the banishment in general and what you did? I'm pretty sure you already told her all about that.
>>
>>38624558
The stipulation about our death, and him making sure that we die mostly, also how she knows how retarded chrys can be.
>>
>>38624594
Ahh, gotcha. Yeah, you could have Darzi avoid mentioning those topics if people voted for it., though I don't think Darzi actually knows. I'm pretty sure you're the only one who's read the note Kadir gave you. Well, you and your family.

Actually, wait a sec. Darzi was there when you read it if I recall correctly. So she'd know after all.
>>
>>38624632
Have a good night Soma, see ya thursday.
