You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the temporary wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

After a failed first attempt at enchanting, you decided to find a book in the tower library to help you, and gave the Knight-Captain your final decision on who you wanted placed on your Honor Guard. It seemed a normal day, but unbeknownst to you, the forces of Malaphas were conspiring against you and your hometown. Who knows what will happen when they finally strike...

You are awoken by the sound of knocking at your door. Rubbing the sleep out of your eye, you slowly get up and get dressed. You were up most of the night reading through the book on enchantment you borrowed yesterday, in preparation for your second attempt today with Festus. As such, you're still a little groggy when you finally open the door.

"About time. You always take too long getting up in the mornings." Erika greets you, fully armored and looking wide awake.

"Right, sorry. Guess I'm still not used to this tower's stupid sleep schedule."

"You shall get used to it. A fresh day should be met as early as possible anyways."

You blink twice and peak over the side of your doorframe. There are five others besides Erika standing outside your door. Ganelon, Nerillian, Justine, Joan, and Roland are all there as well. It takes your tired brain a moment to realize Laurentius must have assigned them to honor guard duty already. Damn, that elf works fast.

"Should we be on our way then? The dining hall will surely be full when we get there at this rate." Nerillian interjects. With that, you grab Galadriel and your bag (Carrying the book on enchantment just in case), and head down to the dining hall with them.

The grand hall is littered with bags and supplies this morning, and many of the survivors are sitting out here eating their breakfast. Many of them wave to you when they see you pass by.

"What's with all the bags?" You ask. "Are the survivors leaving already?"

"Seems like it." Erika explains. "Captain's assigned a few squads to escort them to their new homes tonight. Speaking of which, we've got escort duty tonight as well. Make sure you're ready."

Damn, it hasn't even been a week yet and Laurentius is already ready to send the survivors out to their new homes. You'd heard that the watchtowers all had significant pull in their kingdoms, but you'd have thought it'd take at least a whole week or two to relocate them. That old elf works fast.

The seven of you file into the dining hall and sit at the usual table. Daniel is waiting for you when you arrive.

"Ah, there you all are. I was wondering when you'd get here." He says with a friendly smile. "I see the captain has already assigned everyone onto this honor guard then."

"I guess so." You tell him. "Kind of surprised me this morning when I saw them all waiting outside my door."

"I'd imagine. Still, I'm glad the captain was able to organize it quickly. Now we won't have to worry about you disappearing again." He jokes. You were worried he'd be offended that you hadn't chosen him for the honor guard, but he doesn't seem upset by it.

Everyone takes a seat and begins filling their plates with food from the various platters on the long table. Erika and Ganelon fill their plates with as much food as can possibly fit on one plate, while Daniel doesn't eat much at all. Justine, Joan, and Nerillian chat amongst themselves, while Roland asks you about the farm and your fight with the behemoth (contrary to the others, he has an easier time believing your story). Just like last time, Ganelon flips open part of his helmet, concealing his face even as he eats.

You pull that book on enchantment out of your bag and set it on the table next to your plate. Opening up to the first chapter, you review the basics while you eat.

'When enchanting an object (or objects), remember to focus solely on the item(s) during the Saturation phase. Loss of concentration can cause the aetheric coating to fade, so be sure to remove any distractions from the area during this phase. It is recommended that beginners practice basic spellcraft beforehand, as the process of saturating an item in an aetheric coat can be compared to focusing aether through a spellcaster's Foci. It is also recommended that beginners...'

"I see you're taking Festus's lessons seriously, Siegfried." Daniel comments. You acknowledge him with a nod, but focus on reviewing.

"I don't see the point in it, personally." Erika says with a shrug. "I mean, it'd be easier to just ask Festus to do it."

"That's just because you stink at anything magic-related." Berry translates for Joan. She breaks off a piece of her toast (with jelly) and offers it to her familiar.

"Hey, I could do it if I wanted to."

"I sincerely doubt that." Justine says calmly. "You don't have the patience for it."

"Hey, I don't see you slinging any spells around."

"That's out of personal choice. At least I can actually cast them if I chose to."

"I'm sure Erika could do it as well if she would actually attend her training lessons." Daniel quips.

"Uh, I mean if I wanted I could, but-"

"Are you not trained in the art of spellcraft miss Erika? If so, I would not mind teaching you." Ganelon offers.

"Yeah, no thanks. And uh, no need for the 'miss' in front of my name."

"Very well then, suit yourself."

The others continue to discuss magic amongst themselves while you continue to focus on the book. As soon as everyone's finished breakfast, you put the book back and follow the others out of the dining hall.

"Well, I must be on my way now." Daniel says in the grand hall. "Good luck with your lessons Siegfried, I'm sure you'll get it this time around."

You thank him, and he heads out the main doors to meet his patrol squad. Festus never told you when specifically to meet him, but you do have escort duty later tonight. You could use this time to study more though, or do something else entirely.

Well, no better time then the present. You lead the others down to the training yard and down the corridor leading to Festus's workshop.

Festus is already waiting for you when you arrive. The glove and shield from last time are sitting at the same table you left them on last time.

"Your back. Did you find a book to study up on like I told you to?"

"I did." You respond, setting your gear down and sitting down at the table with the shield and glove.

"Good, good. And who's this lot?"

"His honor guard." Nerilian replies. "Laurentius assigned us to watch over him and Galadriel starting today."

"Ah, alright then. Just find a seat and keep it down, the boy don't need more trouble concentrating."

Everyone obliges and finds a seat. They all watch silently, trying not to distract you. You try to ignore them and focus solely on the items in front of you. You take a deep breath, put one hand on the shield and the other on the glove, and concentrate.

You furrow your eyebrows and concentrate, focusing aether into the shield and glove. Both start to glow, first dim, then finally a bright blue. You heave a sigh of relief, for a moment you were worried it would fade again.

"Much better this time." Festus praises. "But this is only the first step. We've still got to bind them together and cast the spell. Hope you read further than just the introduction on that book."

-----
You raise a hand to your forehead and wipe the sweat off your brow. It's taken a few hours, but it's finally done. Before you lies the glove you bound to your father's shield, now successfully enchanted. You can't help but feel a little nostalgic, this is a lot like the first time you worked with your father in the smithy.

"That should do it. Now, go on and put it on. Best to test it out, make sure everything's binded nice and proper."

You oblige, slipping the glove and it's mate onto your hands. Once both are on, you concentrate on the glove like Festus instructed, and the glove is instantly replaced by your father's shield.

"There you go, that should do it." Festus says with a nod. "Now you know all the basics."

"When should I come in for the next lesson?" You ask eagerly.

"Next lesson? There is none."

"Huh?"

"I already taught you the basics. The rest you'll have to figure out yourself. You can come in and if I'm not busy I'll teach you a new enchantment, but if I'm busy you'll just have to see if there's something in the library that piques your interest. I'd teach you more, but I've got a whole tower to keep supplied, I don't have time to sit here and teach you all the time."

You shrug. "Alright then. I guess I'll stop by and see if you're busy when I want to learn something new."

"Aye, I'll see you then. Now, if you'd be so kind as to take that lot with you before they drool all over my chairs."

The "lot" Festus is referring to is Erika, Joan, and Roland, all three of which fell asleep a little over an hour ago. Admittedly, it must have been boring to watch you work for three-ish hours and do nothing, but even so it's a little unprofessional considering they're supposed to be your guards now.

"He's talking about you three." Justine says, nudging them all awake.

"Wha-, huh? Is it time to go yet?" Erika says

"Seems like it." Roland says, stretching his arms out after waking up."

"About time, I thought that old guy would never shut u-" Justine hurriedly closes Berry's beak before he can finish that sentence. Festus harumphs and goes back to his work.

"Let's be off then. No need to pester Festus any more." Nerillian says, standing up and holding the door open for everyone.

The group files out of Festus's workshop, leaving the smith to his work. You swear you hear him mutter something along the lines of "-spoiling my focus." on your way out.

Well, now it seems your on your own for the most part as far as enchantments are concerned. You still have some time before lunch, now what?

Well, after all that tedious work trying to enchant your father's shield, you might as well test it out now. You lead everyone down to the training yard, where other crusaders are currently practicing as well.

"Now this is more my speed." Erika says, cracking her knuckles.

"I have to agree. No offense to Festus, but sitting there listening to him instruct you was about as exciting as learning mathematics from Sister Leandra back in Galloway. That is, not at all." Roland comments.

"Meh. I think I'll just sit to the side and read instead." Joan says through Berry.

With that, everyone goes to do their own thing. Nerillian is practicing at the archery range, Roland and Justine are sparring, Erika is doing warm up exercises, and Joan is reading a book on the sidelines. Ganelon sits a short distance from Joan, it seems he's meditating or something.

Festus would have explained that the process of saturating an item makes it more endurable than before, not to the point of being unbreakable, but better than before. That means enchanted shields and armor are less likely to shatter in most cases, and weapons tend to hold their edge longer.

The others seem fine doing their own thing, so you decide to go do some warm ups with Erika.

"You know, everyone else is out there sparring, and here you are doing pushups by yourself."

"Is there a problem with that?" She says mid pushup. You have to give her credit, she doesn't seem to struggle at all despite wearing platemail.

"No, I'm just saying. Don't see any point in warming up for a sparring match." Actually, you remember the captain used to make everyone do warm up exercises before sparring back in basic training, but that was because he was trying to tire everyone out first.

"It builds strength." She says, finally stopping. "I do it every day before I spar, have been ever since I was a kid."

"I'd think there are better ways to do that." You respond. Then again, you spent most of your childhood learning how to hammer hot iron, so you never really needed to exercise that much.

"No really, it works." She says, standing back up. "Look, just try it. You get used to it after a while, and if you stick to it you'll get stronger, like me." She flexes an arm as though to make her point, though the fact she's wearing armor kind of ruins the point of it.

You shrug, nothing better to do you suppose. You get down into a pushup position, while Erika stands to the side and watches.

You get in a respectable amount of pushups, before finally your arms just give out.

"Not bad." Erika says, helping you get to your feet. "You can do better though. Stick to it, do a few exercises before you spar. You'll get stronger in no time."

Well you don't know about that, but you suppose it couldn't hurt. You take a moment to catch your breath, before deciding what to do now. You wave over Roland, who is carrying a spear like Justine. While he's walking over, an idea occurs to you.

'Hey, Galadriel. You said you could choose to not cut something if you choose not to, right?'

'I can, yes. Why do you ask?'

'Think you could do that here so I can practice with your sword? It'd be best to practice with the weapon I actually use rather than a normal practice weapon.'

'I see, that is true. Very well then, I will dull my blade while you spar.'

As she says that, Roland finally reaches you. "Something you wanted, Siegfried?"

"Yeah, actually, would you mind sparring with me?"

"Oh yeah, sure thing, just give me a second to catch my breath. I've seen Justine practice here before, but actually sparring with her is a different matter, you know?"

You remember sparring with her a few times during your first month at the tower. She messed up the first time you sparred by underestimating you, then losing her composure, but she never made the same mistake after that. You still won a few times, but you lost a few times as well.

"I know what you mean. Just let me know whenever you're ready."

"Yeah, sure. But uh...where's you're sparring weapon?"

"I was actually going to practice with Galadriel if you don't mind. Calm down, she won't cut you, see?" You demonstrate by grabbing onto Galadriel's blade. Indeed, it feels completely blunt.

"I see...Well, I don't mind so long as it's safe. Come on, I think I've rested long enough."

With that, the two of you take a stance across from each other. When you're both ready, the sparring match begins.

"Nice try Siegfried, but it's not that easy to-"

His sentence is cut off when you shift Galadriel into a halberd and hit him hard in the side with the halberd's blade.

"Agh! He exclaims, regaining his footing from the surprise switch. "I forgot you could do that. That's almost cheating." He jokes, getting back in a stance. His eyes follow your movements warily, he seems more cautious of you now.

"Yeah, but in case you haven't noticed I'm not-"

You try to get him while he's talking again. This time however, he's prepared, and you only just barely graze him.

"Whoa, so now you're cheating and you're playing dirty? And here I thought a champion was supposed to be honorable."

You grin. This is a lot like how you and Reinhardt would spar back during basic training, with jokes and some moderate shit talking. Still, you don't think Roland can keep this up long, you've gotten a lot better since you came to the watchtower, so you think you can finish this soon.

"Yeah, I remember the story. I guess I should call you a jackass instead then?"

"You forget. I'm a jackass..." You shift Galadriel into a greatsword and rush forward. "With a sword!"

Trip

Your bold charge is turned into an embarrassing tumble when Roland moves to the side and trips you as you move past. But of course, letting you fall on your face wouldn't be enough, so he also swipes at you in midair with the butt of his spear, smashing you in the gut. It's enough to knock the wind out of you and send you back a few feet. Landing flat on your back, you manage to roll out of the way and get up again just before Roland can hit you again while you're down.

>23/30 HP remaining

"Well, you're certainly a jackass. Now if only you could figure out how to use that sword." Roland taunts, a shit-eating grin spreading across his face.

"Yeah, still working on that." You tell him, looking for any openings to exploit. "I'm told I'm getting better, but when shit like that happens, it's hard to tell."

"Well, you know how to take a hit at least. Lots of people would have been out after that last one.

"Yeah, well, when demons keep attacking you, you learn how to take a hit pretty fa-"

This time it's Roland that attacks while you're talking. However, you're not about to get caught off guard so easily, and knock his spear away with your greatsword. Acting quickly, you give him a hard kick to knock him away, then swing your greatsword and hit him right in the gut. Now it's his turn to get sent onto the ground, but this time you corner him before he can roll out of the way and recover. It wasn't easy, but it's your win.

"Well hey, maybe I am getting better after all." You taunt, flashing your own shit-eating grin.

"Yeah, whatever, just help me up already." You oblige, offering him a hand and helping him up. He dusts himself off and puts his training spear back on the rack.

"In any case, good match. As expected from the one Galadriel chose." He tells you, offering his right hand for a handshake.

"Well she was kind of short on options at the time, but thanks." You respond, shaking his hand firmly.

"Hey, guys?" Erika shouts, grabbing both of your attention. "If you're done talking smack, it's about time for lunch now."

The dining hall is packed as usual. Daniel is back from his patrol and eats lunch with you and the rest of the gang. You show him the newly enchanted shield, and he congratulates you on getting it right this time.

"So, when do we leave for that escort mission you mentioned at breakfast?" You ask Erika while you eat lunch.

"Actually, not long after lunch." She replies between bites. "Apparently the town we're taking them to is a long ride from here, so we have to head out a little sooner than the others."

"How many are we taking there?"

"Not a lot, maybe fifteen or twenty of them. We've got a long way to ride though, but we should be back in time for curfew."

"Anything that stands out about it?"

"Nothing really, it's just a small farming village from what I hear. It's a pretty small community, but I guess they were willing to take in a few of the survivors when the captain asked."

You shrug. Sounds like an easy mission at least. You finish eating lunch with the rest of your group, then everyone files out into the grand hall.

"Alright, we still have about thirty minutes before we have to meet the survivors heading for Miller's Point here." Erika explains to the group. Is there anything anyone has to do before we head out? We won't be back for a few hours, so best to get it done now."

Everybody shakes their heads. Seems you're all ready to go whenever the survivors get here. As soon as they do, you and the others lead them out to the stables, where you mount up and ride for Miller's Point.

-----
Knight-Captain Laurentius flips through the various sheets of paperwork he needs to sign and sighs. Over 200 years he's served the White Watchtower, and most of it's been spent signing papers. He'd say he missed the good old days, but there wasn't really anything good about those days to be honest. As much as he hated the mountains of paperwork that passed by his desk every day, it was much better than crossing blades with the demonic hordes. To be honest, he doubted he had the energy left in him to fight like he did in his youth anyways. Even so, he knew something had to be done eventually. While others looked at the borders and saw a barrier between them and the Forsaken Lands, he saw the hungry hordes which lied in wait beyond the border, waiting for the right moment to strike again. Now that Galadriel had chosen a new champion (temporary, he should say. Hopefully one day that would change though.), he felt a little more at ease, knowing that if the demons chose to strike now, they would at least have Galadriel's sacred power on their side. The boy wielding it was reluctant and inexperienced, but if the familiar's account of him fighting off a behemoth were true, perhaps there was hope for him yet.

As he finishes signing another sheet of paperwork, he glances at the map lying on a cleared spot on his desk. No matter how much paperwork he received, that spot stayed clear, so he would always have a clear view of the map. It was an old tool left for him by his predecessor, an enchanted map linked to the many arcane wards the crusaders had placed along the border. If anything were to cross the border, the map would reveal the location of the breach with a red glowing X. Every now and then, an X would appear to mark where a Scavenger crossed to snatch some unfortunate soul who wandered too close.

When he returned his gaze to his paperwork, he could see from the corner of his eye as several bright red Xs formed on the border.

Snapping his attention back to the map, he pushed the paperwork aside and called for his assistant. All officers, report to his office at once...

------
A few hours into your trip, dark clouds begin to form on the horizon. It seems a nasty storm is about to blow in soon. You, your honor guard, and fifteen survivors from the farm are currently riding on horseback for Miller's Point. It's been an uneventful trip so far, but you've kept your eyes open just in case.

"How much farther to Miller's Point?" You ask

"Not too long, but it'll probably start raining before we get there." Justine answers. "We might want to consider finding shelter until the storm passes by.

You look up at the looming thunderclouds up ahead. Indeed, it might be a good idea to find shelter until the storm passes, but you could just gun it for the village and hope someone there is nice enough to let you take shelter in their home. Still, something about those black clouds feel ominous...you can't quite place why.

"Looks like that's a really nasty storm blowing our way. Let's look for shelter, we'll head to Miller's Point once the storm blows over."

The others nod, and help you look for somewhere to take shelter from the elements. Shelter comes in the form of a cave, which you and the survivors climb into just in time before the rain comes.

Joan gathers some rocks to make a firepit and mutters and incantation. A fire lights in the center of the makeshift firepit, lighting the cave and providing some warmth. The rain pours down hard outside, and bright streaks of lightning flash outside. Ear-splitting thunder booms outside, and you are glad you decided to take shelter before the storm hit.

"Quite the storm outside." Nerillian comments, peaking outside the mouth of the cave.

"You said it." Erika agrees, sitting next to the fire. "It is the rainy season though, I'm more surprised we're only just now getting any storms."

"Still, looks like we might be stuck here for a while." Roland says, leaning against the cave wall.

"I don't know friends, something seems off here." Ganelon says, sitting cross-legged like he did at the training yard today.

"What do you mean?" Justine asks.

"I mean something does not seem right. Do you not feel it, that strange sense of...ominousness?"

"I think I know what you mean." You agree, noting that same sense of nervousness you felt earlier. "Still, it's normal to be a little nervous when a storm this big hits, right?"
>>
>>39317002
"Perhaps, but I still don't-"

"Uh, people?" Nerillian interrupts. "You might want to come take a look at this."

You and the other members of the honor guard get up and walk to the mouth of the cave, where Nerillian points to something very far off in the distance. At first you don't see it, but then you notice it. Smoke, rising above the treeline.

"Did lightning strike or something?" Roland asks.

"Maybe, but that's pretty close to where Miller's Point should be." Erika replies, a hint of worry edging into her tone.

"I'm going." Ganelon states, stepping out into the rain.

"Wait, where are you running off to in a storm like this?" Nerillian asks, grabbing him by the shoulder.

"To check on Miller's Point. Perhaps it is nothing, but I can't shake off this feeling that something is very wrong. If you wish to stay, then so be it, but I am going to go check on them just to be sure."

>Stop him, everyone needs to stay together.

"No, I'll go to." You tell him. "Roland, Justine, come with us. Erika, Joan, Nerillian, stay here with the survivors. We'll be back as soon as we can."

"Thank you, Siegfried. I hope I'm wrong here, but I want to make sure just in case."

"Don't worry about it Ganelon, I'm getting a bad feeling from this as well. We'll just head down and check to make sure everyone's alright."

-----
The four of you head out on horseback for Miller's Point. The rain soaks you to the bone, but you bear with it. It's the winds and loud thunderclaps that have you concerned, and more than once a bolt of lightning strikes the trees and throws the horses into a panic. Eventually however, you make it to Miller's Point.

Or at least, what's left of it.

Smoke rises from the town, where buildings lie ruined and scorched. You see some dead, but there are survivors here as well. The four of you quickly dismount and approach the surviving villagers.

"Are you alright? What happened?" you ask the nearest survivor. He looks up at you, thoroughly soaked and obviously panicked.

"They came from nowhere...started attacking the village, destroyed all our homes, snatching people away..."

"Were you attacked by demons?" Ganelon asks, his tone completely serious and devoid of it's usual jovialness.

"They came down from the clouds, lots of them. Horned monsters, with sharp teeth and leather wings. But worst than them was that man, the one in black armor. He came down in a bolt of lightning, started cleaving people in two. Some of us tried to run, but he threw some sort of lightning bolt at them before they could get away..."

Oh no, now you know exactly why you were feeling nervous earlier. Black armor, lightning bolt, you only know one person that fits that description.

"Ganelon, go check on the survivors, heal them if they're injured. Justine, Roland, go help him."

The three of them nod and leave to check on the other survivors. Around this time, the rain finally stops falling and the dark clouds continue to fly west. You can still hear the booming claps of thunder from here.

"Now, I need you to tell me everything that happened. How did you survive? Did they say anything at all?"

The man struggles to find his voice, but answers. "After they destroyed all our homes, that man in the black armor told us he'd let the rest of us go so we could deliver a message. to the Watchtower."

You furrow your eyebrows. "What was the message?"

"He said to give it to some bloke named Siegfried. He said "I'm going to pay you back for taking my arm."

You hear one last boom of thunder in the distance, as though Andras were shouting his challenge to you from within the thundercloud. You help the others check the survivors for injuries, then make your way back to the cave. You need to get back to the watchtower fast, the captain needs to know about this.

It actually does look pretty similar, though I'm pretty sure that's a character from Fire Emblem if I'm not mistaken. I'll save it anyways as alternate art if I need a second pic for Erika. Already saved that other one for Siegfried's dad as his new art.
>>39317613
To be fair, a lot of the art I have for characters doesn't show them using the weapon I describe them as using, like Justine's art.
>>39317635
Erika would know how to use one, as everybody at the tower's been trained to use different weapons, but she strongly prefers the greatsword.
>>
You know considering we lopped off his arm when we could barely lift Galadriel I think we can take Andras with good applications of Haste and R. Strength.

Dice willing of course.

Cheers for the thread OP!

We should definitely not fight fair. At all. Like if Nerillian has a shot while we are fighting, have him take it. Or have a certain redheaded knight stab him in the back of the head while he is focused on us.

Doubt it'll be that easy though.
>>
>>39317843
I'm game for stabbing him in the back of the head again.

So am I the only one that thinks we should head home and send the raven to send the message for us?
>>
>>39317907
Finding out which way the demons left would be a good start. Also whether we're closer to home now or in completely different part of the country.

We should probably find out the Watchtowers reaction before anything. No sense charging in half cocked.

So next thread we are spending one of our hero points on something.
If nothing else at least spend it on a speech that will get public support for the watch-tower.
>>
>>39320279
>If nothing else at least spend it on a speech
>if nothing else waste it on something not worthy of a hero point

your an idiot, they are not mere "press X to win" buttons, we save them for live or die moments when we need them, not for public speaking, which I doubt we'll need a hand with after they flattened this town, so no, we won't be spending one of our hero points next thread on 'something' without damn good cause.

also sage your posts, threads long dead.
>>
>>39320310
Well first off, i wasn't able to post while it was still active.
Second, the speech thing is to prevent our family from suffering consequences for our shit by making the people of Morsland stand by the watchtower.
What we need is public support to build the military strength of the border lands so we can defend our shit.

P.S. i'm a newfag so how do i sage?
>>
>>39320640
>how do i sage?
in the options field type "sage" without quotation marks

>making the people of Morsland stand by the watchtower.
how is a single speech going to do that? it won't magically teleport them to safety at the watchtower or anything else, Morsland will still be under thread by Andras

>What we need is public support to build the military strength of the border lands so we can defend our shit.
I agree, but we won't simply get that just by wasting a HP for no reason, nor will public speaking achieve that without action on our part and evidence that their support is needed, none of which a HP spent will magically grant us

how did she do that?

probably berry speaking or muttering for her, also sage your posts anon
>>
>>39321014
No, but even if that were the case, the implications are immense: you've taken out the biological limit for spell-casting. As long as you can multitask it in your head, you could cast 2-3 spells at once!
>>
>>39321053
I think your reading way too much into a simple typo and overthinking things
>>
>>39321084
you're the one who suggested that familiars can cast for you.
>>
>>39321101
well if the bird speaks for her, then of course it would be speaking the incantation, the incantation isn't the only component of casting a spell, so no, I didn't suggest that familiars can cast for you

put your shadowruns away anon
>>
>>39321053
>as long as you can multitask it in your head
that's pretty big if, even if the 'muttering' in first place was not just soundless moving of lips while she visualised the incantation. Also keep in mind she was magic-capable before coopting the bird into service.
>>
>>39321130
I didn't say we, or anyone we currently know, could attempt it if it were possible.
>>
>>39320998
The implication was that Berry did the incantation for her.
>>39321053
It's -possible- to cast multiple spells at once with the aid of a familiar, but it would be very difficult, as you're trying to focus on two different spells at once. No one would try that unless they were very desperate or very experienced because if you fuck it up, spell mishaps can be very nasty business. Not to mention that would be a lot more taxing than just casting them one at a time.
>>
>>39321257
I figured as much, it's just nice to know it's possible.

Can you enchant an item more than once, or with more than one effect?
>>
>>39321590
You can add extra effects, absolutely. However, an object can only be infused with so much aether before it causes damage to the object, so saturation is only done once. Enchantments use the aether infused in the item, which refreshes it's own supply after successfully saturating it, to fuel their effects, so the more enchantments placed on an item, the less they have to fuel their effects, so adding too many will result in diminished effects. For example, a sword with just a fire enchantment will burn the hottest. Add another enchantment and it will still burn pretty hot, but not as much as before. Add three or more on top of the fire enchantment, and the sword's flame will grow dim. Add even more, and the sword's enchantments may have no effect whatsoever.

Some enchantments draw more aether than others as well, more dramatic enchantments will draw more of the items aether than small effects. Your shield's enchantment, for example, doesn't drain a lot of aether, so it still has room for another enchantment or two.
>>
>>39322235
I'm guessing Galadriel takes energy from her own reserves. How tiring are the tricks she does for her? I imagine she's absurdly strong, but would it theoretically be possible for her to exhaust herself?

Also do crusaders have transforming weapons often? Maybe some will try them out after seeing how it works for the jackass fighting style.
>>
>>39322483
Powers like Righteous Strength draw directly from Galadriel herself rather than the blade. You've never felt her grown tired from using the sword's ability to change shape, and even using Righteous Strength didn't seem to faze her. Angels and demons are more directly attuned to the flow of aether, so magic comes very easily to them. On top of that, Galadriel is a very old and very powerful angel, so her aether reserves are nothing to scoff at. It would take a lot to tire her out, though it is possible. On top of that, the blade itself seems to help. You're not sure what it's made of or what enchantments, if any, are placed on it, but it seems to handle the flow of aether very easily, which is why it makes a great Foci for spellcasting.

>Also do crusaders have transforming weapons often? Maybe some will try them out after seeing how it works for the jackass fighting style.

No one else that you know of has a transforming weapon, no. From what you've learned from working with Festus, it's possible to make transforming weapons much like you did for your shield, but they could only be bound to one other weapon or object. Galadriel seems to be unique in it's ability to change at will into any sort of weapon. That said, all the armor here is enchanted from what you saw in the armory, so you'd imagine their weapons are enchanted to some extent as well. The only reason Leonard didn't show you the weaponry was because you already had Galadriel.
>>
>>39322853
Sooo...supposing someone were to take a shield and bind it to a sword so that, if a spell hit the shield, it ended up being redirected through the sword in whatever direction the sword was pointing.

Would that work?
>>
>>39323165
Dude, don't force yourself to keep the thread alive. OP will just make new one.
It's better than artificially keeping this one up and then creating a X.5 edition when it goes past bump limit next day.
>>
>>39323202
Nah, I just got here and have questions about how enchantment works. I played an enchanter in a campaign, so...yeah.
>>
>>39323259
Fair enough then.
>>
>>39323165
What happens if you're in the middle of a slash when it hits the shield? Seems a bit difficult to use unless the spell can be held in the sword for a good second or two.

I wonder if it would be effective to field a bunch of militia armed with spears of enlargement.

>big demon surrounded by toothpicks
>suddenly skewered on all sides
>>
>>39323483
If it's in the middle of a slash, that's like someone grabbing your wand as you shoot a lightning bolt out of it. It'll still go off, just won't travel very far.

On the topic of spears, that does seem like a good method for dealing with large numbers of enemies at once. Is it easier to enchant some materials more than others? It'd be cheaper to have wooden spears turn into sharpened tree trunks instead of actually making that many spears.
>>
>>39323568
I mean that the second or two will be useful for pointing the spell somewhere actually dangerous.
>>
>>39323609
True, but make it just unstable enough so that actually hitting someone with the sword will set it off as well.
>>
>>39323165
You mean like blocking it with a shield then turning it into a sword to redirect it? No, that one wouldn't work.
>>39323568
>On the topic of spears, that does seem like a good method for dealing with large numbers of enemies at once. Is it easier to enchant some materials more than others? It'd be cheaper to have wooden spears turn into sharpened tree trunks instead of actually making that many spears.
It's about as easy to enchant wood or cloth as it is to enchant metal, but more brittle materials are harder to saturate, as the sudden influx of aether may break the item.
>>
>>39323870
No, not turning it into a sword.

I mean it jumps from the shield to the sword, and then shoots from the sword.

You have the shield in one hand, and use it to block a spell. The spell goes along the enchantment to the sword. You have the sword in the other hand already out, and the spell shoots out of the sword instead.
>>
>>39323981
Oh, i see. You're not sure if an enchantment like that exists, but it's possible. You're don't know if you could pull off an enchantment like that yet though.
>>
>>39323870
Are there any ''absorb aether'' and projectile enchantments for shields.
If so we can use it to recharge its aether by blocking spells negating the spells in the process and releasing firebolts/windblades etc. by spending some of that aether.
