The year is 2089, and on the surface, this world seems just the same as ours. If you look more closely though, you will find psychics, mages, mythological monsters and more, all hidden from the general populace.
You are an agent of the Order of the Magus Hunters, the organisation keeping this secret from the rest of the world. They are troubleshooters, police, military and assassins all in one, and all so that the world can be safe.

The options are a guideline, not an absolute, which is why I will always include a Write in option. I may occasionally forget to add it but feel free to do so anyway. Some options I list are good, some are bad, most won’t be really awesome. I leave it up to you to find ways to do that.
Also feel free to ask things if they’re not entirely clear. I reserve the right to dodge the issue if it’s done for plot reasons, but otherwise I’ll gladly provide more information.
>>
>Last time on Magus Hunter Quest: You arrive at the rich area and search it with Helena. At an abandoned shop Raphael accidentally triggers a trap and the owners of the drugs stashed inside are warned. You ambush them and successfully take all four prisoner including two skilled mystics. After that you find out that the Vindex did a similar operation in London with much more disastrous results, and Milly is shaken as she informs you she knows nothing about the people behind it.

“It’s going to be OK Milly. That simply means that it’s our duty to find out and prevent more harm.” You stress the ‘our’ a bit to remind her she’s not alone.

She sounds a bit more reassured in her reply. “Yes sir.”

She hangs in the call, and you turn back to your prisoners. It’ll be a bit longer before your backup/cleaning crew will be here, so you have time to fill waiting for them.

>1. Take some of the drugs with you (for Milly to analyse).
>2. Take some of the drugs (orally, to have a trip).
>3. Interrogate the one conscious mystic (what’s your approach? do you do it yourself or do you let Katherine?).
>4. Break into the conscious mystic’s mind.

“Nathan, can you get us a few samples for Milly to analyse? Katherine, can you try to get something out of the one that’s awake?” You say.

“I’ll try sir.” She calls Blake with her and they move the conscious mystic to a different room. Meanwhile, you have something else in mind.

You pluck the cracked red gem from the woman whose mind you invaded earlier. It seems it was just literally stuck against the forehead, with no apparent way to keep it in place. You let loose your psychic senses, but they tell you very little. You can tell that it was definitely magical at one time, but whatever magic was stored within is now gone, and a faint trace leads towards the side that was stuck to the woman’s forehead. It probably has to do with that information being locked off.

You spend over an hour on trying to learn more, but you can’t find anything. Katherine eventually leaves the room, and Blake drags back the robed man. “Well, that wasn’t very productive.” Katherine tells you as she approaches.

“Nothing of interest then?” You ask.

“Oh, lots of interest, just nothing productive.” Katherine replies. “He was highly uncooperative when it came to divulging information, but he couldn’t stop rambling about how the order would soon crumble and how magic would be freely available to everyone. That’s about it though.”

Well, it’s something at least. You now know you’re dealing with zealots or fanatics of some kind, and they have an objective that goes straight against everything the order stands for. You work for stability, peace and safety. Whoever these people are want to unleash magic upon the world while it simply can’t handle it. You remember your mentor Edward teaching you about the doomsday scenarios that some of the Cerebrum calculated.
>>
Some time later, your backup finally arrives, just as the dealer is starting to wake up. He makes a lot of noise at first but quickly shuts up the moment he realises his situation. Thinking him as the leader of your squad, he starts shouting at Katherine that he was just a middle man, that he doesn’t know anything about who the robed people are and that he’s just here making money.

You don’t particularly care about him right now. You’ve given the okay signal to the backup to approach and they’re there within three minutes.

“Hello old chap.” It’s… Frankly you don’t remember his name, but you’ve worked under him before. He’s leading three full teams excluding the cleaner team, and they quickly take your prisoners into custody alongside their drug stash.

Anything you want to say to them?
>1. Say or as something.
>2. Head back home, thank Helena for her assistance.

“Sir, we found a few things HQ should know.” You inform him of the magical protection the fanatics have, and everything you found out about the gem and the group themselves. “And be careful, they might have gotten off a distress signal. We were pretty fast, but the unconscious one is a psion so you never know.”

“Thanks. You’ve done a good job. I’ll be sure to mention it to the higher ups.” The man gives you a warm smile. Ethan? Ethan something or other you think. It doesn’t really matter though, and you leave him to his business.

Leaving the parking lot now filled with Vindex vans and personnel, you head back to where Helena’s and your own vehicles are parked.

“Well, that was fun.” She says. She’s obviously trying to keep a good atmosphere, but you can tell she’s feeling just as down as the rest of you. You noticed earlier she was reading something on a tablet so she most likely knows about the raid in London as well.

My 4chan is acting up a bit, with the page refusing to reload every now and then. I think the problem's on my side though. Anyway, if I'm a bit late with posting, probably due to that.
>>
“Yes it was. Same time next week?” You ask as you smile at her.

It works. She laughs. “Smooth there lover boy. And I’d love to, but I’m not sure our hosts would be able to accommodate.” She nods her head towards where Ethan(?) and his crew are loading the prisoners in their vans.

“Thank you for your help. And yours too.” You say as Dax whines indignantly. It seems to satisfy him. You should probably find out just how intelligent those Wōdenshunden are exactly.

You each get inside your own respective vehicles and head back home. It’s fairly late as you arrive already, and you don’t think you can get much more done after dinner. Milly already ate and is thus unseen for the entire evening.

You retreat to your chamber after sending Milly a message that you’ll be activating the equipment. It takes a while to fall asleep as the day’s impressions echo around your head.

Its curiosity grows. Or whatever similar state of being it has. There are a few beings in this world that can resist its influence. Somewhat.

It must find out why.

“Good morning master.” Wooster greets you as you get up.

7:03

Your alarm clock tells you that at least you’re pushing yourself back to your actual waking time. “Anything on the…” You wave around your head.

“Yes master, but again, I wasn’t able to find out anything.” Wooster tells you.

You continue your routine and end up at the breakfast table. Your father is conspicuous in his absence. Liam informs you that he quickly came and went not long after Liam arrived there himself. “He looked worried about something. All things considered I thought that might cheer you up.” He shoots you one of his rare almost-smiles.

Indeed it does. Though you had secretly been hoping for Wooster to go to town on him again, this is fine too. As you sit down, Milly seems anxious to talk to you.

“We need everything we can get against those people behind the drugs. If you have time left, feel free to go after the reality warp thing, but focus on the drugs.” You tell Milly.

“Very well sir.” She replies, and goes back to eating. She doesn’t leave as early, and you notice she’s eating slower.

After breakfast, you finish the shooting range. Everyone works very thoroughly and fast, and you have ample time left to do something else. Liam quickly takes it for a spin to test it out as you take a break. You haven’t really seen his sniping skills in action so far, and it’s truly impressive. Four targets pop up at the same time, and he’s taken them all out within ten seconds with near perfect accuracy on the head.

In the break you call Lilliana and ask her about the interrogation of the prisoners.

“Well, I’ve gotten a team to the one addict in police custody yesterday, but they haven’t really found anything useful that we don’t know from yesterday’s raids. Yesterday’s prisoners however…”

She sighs before she continues. “It seems that the red gem is some kind of failsafe against mindprobes. We thought we found a way to remove it from the guy without triggering it, but it’s a lot more sensitive than we thought. The guy went into a magical pseudo-coma as it encased anything that might lead us to them. He still has some presence of mind, but only inside his head. He’s pretty much trapped inside his body, knowing less than 5% of what he knew before. Apparently the same happened to the woman when you entered her mind, though it probably wasn’t as obvious since you knocked her out too.”
>>
I wonder how many clone sister Milly has.
>>
“The higher-ups have this in their hands now, and they’re considering bringing both the Cerebrum and the Oculus on studying them. I’m not sure I’ll actually get much info about it anymore before we get general statements, but I’ll keep my eyes and ears open. But for now, the Arch Magus has declared an Alert Beta, and we’ve temporarily called the group ‘M’.“

You thank her as you close the connection. Damn. They triggered it too. You think about all the information you’ve been given now. Alert Beta doesn’t change anything for you. It just means all personnel needs to be on stand-by 24/7, which you already are. It mostly has an impact on Cerebrum and Oculus, and the Vindex members that are on leave or in support positions.

You want to get it off your mind for a moment. The magical circle, you decide, is as good as any distraction. You’ve spent quite some time on it at the start, but with everything else popping up it’s faded into the background. With your father here again though, you’re reminded that it’s also amongst your duties to see to. You decide to involve him in this. After all, his role is that of observer, so you figured he’d take offence at not being there as you actually do something.

You knock on Milly’s door to ask her to prepare to join you on this, and then head to the cellar. You doubt your father would take kindly to you sending someone to fetch him. You find him reading through scrolls and tomes, much like Raphael tends to do in his spare time, but from the looks of things he’s almost read them all.

You’re sure he noticed you when you came in, but he shows no sign of it. His servant stands behind him like a statue, never so much as twitching.

“Grand Scholar Weston.” You begin, and he looks up with a face betraying nothing. “We were going to look into the magical circle. Or more specifically where it is siphoning this magical energy to. I thought you might want to join us.”

He nods slowly. “Very well, I’ll join you in a few minutes.” He promptly turns back to the scroll he’s holding, so you suppose he won’t take offence if you leave now.

Back in the living room, Wooster has started projecting all kinds of stuff above the table, apparently at Milly’s instructions. Raphael is in the middle of an argument with her that a lot of what is being projected is irrelevant to anyone that doesn’t know the advanced theory behind it.

“It will not be up to those people to find the clues to begin with.” Milly replies to him matter-of-factly. Raphael doesn’t really have a comeback.

“At least distill the most vital parts into something they know as well.”

“That is being taken care of. Mr Wooster, how are those graphs I showed you?” Milly turns to the projections above the table.

“Difficult, but underway, my lady.” A disembodied voice calls out to her.

“I told you to stop calling me lady.” She actually seems a bit flustered.

“And I have told you that it would be improper for me to address you as anything else.” Wooster replies. “Ah, I have it now.”

A map appears above the table, shoving all the additional tables and graphs to the side to levitate in the corners of the room. It’s all quite impressive, and it seems Milly has taken a liking to Wooster. When exactly did they get so friendly with each other?
>>
You sit down, and your father appears in the doorway you just left. He seems quite perplexed at the projected images.

Milly and Raphael look at you anxiously. they seem to be eager to get started on this. Your father simply sits down in a corner with a tablet. It seems that whatever he is for the rest, he takes his observer role seriously and it doesn’t seem like he will interfere.

“Ok, Milly, Raphael, go ahead.” You tell them.

They quickly glance at each other before Milly takes the word. “With the help of Mr Wooster, I have been able to process much more data than I would have been able to normally, and I’ve gathered everything I had on the circle and the ley-lines together with Mr Raphael’s observations and notes from the tomes. The result is what you see here. With this map and Mr Wooster’s mind doing the calculations we should be able to predict the ley-line’s path with moderate accuracy. I haven’t had the chance to test it though, so I propose we do that now with a known and mapped out ley-line that passes through here.”

She nods as you faintly become aware of… A conversation? Yeah, it seems you are aware of Milly talking to Wooster with her mind, though you cannot hear anything. Perhaps Wooster is just doing this as a courtesy to let you know he’s talking to her?

The map starts to blur for a moment, but after about ten seconds it comes back into focus. A red line is drawn on it, passing through your current location marked with a blue orb. “The blue orb, obviously, is where we are right now.” She throws a glance at Raphael, as if to say ‘is that easy enough for them now?’. “The red line is the measured and known path of an actual ley-line. Mr Wooster is still crunching some numbers behind the scenes so the green line that will appear momentarily is the path predicted by our method.”

Soon enough, a green line starts wriggling its way out of the blue orb. And it follows the red line for a remarkably long distance. Five kilometers away and it’s barely off for maybe half a dozen meters. At twenty-five kilometers and after a few irregular turns in the line itself, it starts to diverge heavily though, and is only within half a kilometer anymore. Beyond fourty kilometers the lines have no more visible correlation.
>>
“Hmm, twenty-one point…” Milly begins.

“Three five seven, my lady. After that the error margin becomes too large to properly predict the course within acceptable bounds.” Wooster’s disembodied voice says. Milly involuntarily twitches at the ‘my lady’.

“So, let us hope whatever we’re looking for is within that distance then.” Raphael says. “Of course, this was a trial run, and with some fine-tuning we should be able to crank up the accuracy a bit more. Now, let’s try with the line we need, shall we?”

It takes Wooster some more time to bring up the new line, this time following the line you’re certain of the energy follows. It creeps through the countryside, though this time it stops at about twenty-one kilometers. That’s 21.357 km you suppose.

“So, is there any way to know where what we’re looking for, this next circle of his is in distance?” Blake asks.

“Not yet. Neither of us has had the time to do much more than what we have now. I suppose you could look through the internet to see if there’s any plausible sites within the territory we know for sure now.” Raphael says.

"Aren't there two places that the circle is connected to? What of the line traveling south? And has there been any movement of the lines?" You ask.

“The lines do not tend to move. At least, not in a timeframe noticeable to humans. Or most other mortal beings for that matter.” Raphael tells you. “As for the one moving south, we can run that one too, though we thought the finding of the next point was higher priority than finding the previous one.”

You tell them to get started on that. While Wooster is busy, you congratulate them. “Very good work, all of you. I had no idea you could do that, Wooster.”

“I could not. Lady Hackland has taught me most of it yesterday.” Wooster responds. Impressive.

“So, any wild speculations on your parts?”

“I do not make ‘wild’ speculations sir.” Milly responds. “I make accurate speculations based on current knowledge. Right now all options are still open.”

“While it pains me to say it sir, Milly is right.” Raphael joins her. “There’ just so much we don’t know yet. We don’t know if it’s ‘just’ the three nodes we know of, or if it’s a longer chain. We don’t know how much energy has actually built up at the end, or what its purpose is.”

In the mean time, Wooster has finished his projection to the south. You immediately notice something. It’s a bit too far away to say for sure, but it looks like the ley-line goes straight towards the Order HQ…
>>
It’s noon though, your growling stomach reminds you, and you all go to the dining room and enjoy the meal. It’s noticeably poorer in quality though, and Wooster apologises. “I’ve had to spend a lot of energy on the projections and calculations, so I have less left over for food. I hope it is not too much of an inconvenience, master.”

“No, it’s ok, it’s still good.”

For once, your father seems to be in a good mood, a sentiment shared around the table.

“That’s quite impressive, Hackland. I suppose the Oculus did at least something good in your production.” He says. Milly stiffens. “I must confess I had my doubts about the whole Argus project, but it seems you’re proving to be useful after all.”

He gave her… A compliment? You think?

“And, Wooster was it? Impressive. I’ve rarely seen Genius Loci as powerful as you being so relatable in nature.” He sips his drink.

>6. Go crack down on another of the drug hideouts. They might be warned now though.
I'd rather do this now while they still haven't had much time to prepare themselves.
>>
>>39654541
I believe making a move on the drug ring a day after is already too late. The iron cooled down and is now hard enough to hit back with force.
Allow the other gangers to think that they are safe, then move on with the op

Ok, you're going for another bust. Do you try to coordinate with HQ or do you just go in alone with your team?

Also:
>1. Go for the slums, head straight to the dealing point.
>2. Try to talk to the League, who are against the Wizzie.
>3. Go for the roadside cafe.

>It is assumed that you'll call up DCI Nettles for any information on the location before you go.
>>
>>39654456
5. Talk to your father (specify about what).
Okay what the fuck dad breaking opsec to make someone uncomfortable that shit won't fly do it again and i report your ass
>>
>>39654781

I say only do a raid if the HQ asks/approves of the idea.

Otherwise - and if we're still determined to be tackling this issue - we can try talking to the League.

Very well, writing. Probably the last post for the day.
>>
>>39655008
I missed >>39654840 in that post there. Whatever, doesn't matter.

It was two people, Supervisor:

Regardless, it ends up being >1 unless HQ says no

As lunch finishes, you move to your office before anyone else leaves the table. There, you call Lilliana again.

“Yes Weston? I hope it’s urgent, because I’m fairly busy.”

“I was planning on doing a second operation against a known drug dealing spot, but considering the situation I wanted to pass this by HQ before doing anything that could jeopardise anything the Vindex is already working on.”

“Good call. Don’t. We’re working on tracking more locations down and are beginning to organise a large-scale operation to hit everything simultaneously. New orders, of literally three minutes ago, are to report all the data you have to the Oculus who will then aid in the planning of the operation. I believe I’ve seen the analysis Agent Hacklend has performed float around here. I’ll let you know when we’re planning the raid, you’ll definitely be on the front lines.”

“I have a contact in the local PD that could aid us. He’s not aware of mystics, but he’s provided me with vital information so far, and might be able to tell us more information about locations in the area to keep in mind while planning an attack. Perhaps contacting other PD’s in the areas of the targets could prove useful.” You tell her.

“I’ll keep that in mind. Just be sure you’re ready. This Op will have top priority, so you should be ready to drop anything you’re doing and get to the rendez-vous points that’ll have been relayed to you. Expect attack plans within two days, and any extra info you can get us will be useful.”

“Very well ma’am.”

You lay in the call. Well, it seems your plans have been thwarted for the good of the Order. You’ll have to reschedule a bit.

>1. Continue working on the circle.
>2. Start a new room (specify what kind).
>3. Train together.
>4. Do another patrol.
>5. Talk to your father (specify about what).
>6. Write in.

And that was it for today. Thank you for having me. Next thread Friday or Saturday. Watch twitter to stay updated. As usual, I'll stick around for a moment.

>>39655243
>1. Continue working on the circle.
>>39655260
Good night, thanks for running.
>>
>>39655243
I believe we wanted to talk with the league instead? It's technically not part of the operation and we could use the intel.
>>
>>39655260
Goodnight, thanks for the thread
>>
>>39655280
I'd rather not get the league involved in an organized Order raid.
>>
And archived.

Now, I must say that I'm slightly sad that it's pretty much known who/what Milly is, now I cannot taunt you with that anymore.

At least I have the Something Out There to keep us all entertained/shadowrun'd

>>39655243
>3. Train together

>>39655260
Thanks for the thread OP!

>>39655280
As a guy who suggested that, if we're to be on alert it would be better to not dig ourselves into negotiations in the slums.
>>
>>39655328
Okay, switching my vote to the training... Was my first idea long ago actually, quite funny how things go.
>>
>>39655328
Lets train again, Mind or Psychic abilities.
>>
>>39655243
>3. Train together.
Gotta be ready for when the call comes in.
>>
>>39655307
Dont worry, next you can introduce an amorphous blob of living liquid metal that wisecracks and insults the everliving fuck out of everything, especially Pops.

Or, you know, something cooler than that.
>>
>>39656438
we still need to tell him to stop being such a cunt.
