"Blood Witch..." I say out loud while looking over Irene's text for what much be the twentieth time. "This is just -wonderful-."

So the person who took over Glenn and tried to kill me last night is another of those Qliphoth people. Had I known that killing that one dick from the Mafia would bring me this much trouble, I would've just settled on...

...no, that's a lie. I killed him because he hurt Charlotte and was trying to kill me and I'd do it again in a second.

But at least I actually know what I'm dealing with this time instead of it being a complete surprise like all the other fights I've had. I really owe Irene for that one.

With a lavender towel draped over her head, Gabrielle stumbles into the living room where I'm sitting. I start to ask her how she can even see with her entire face covered like that, but then I remember the weird seeing-through-stuff power that she has.

"Hey," she mumbles, plopping down onto the couch while continuing to dry her hair. "Whass botherin' you?"
"Er..." I glance at my phone. "...I'll tell you about it in a little while."
"'kay," she replies.

I'm kind of surprised that she'd get dressed before her hair was dry... especially considering how long it is, that has to be a huge pain to deal with.

........wait a minute. That towel.

It's got a pair of long ears sticking out of it.

Just then, I hear another door opening. Craning my neck to get a better look, I see that Charlotte's just cracked the door a little bit to let the steam from inside vent out.

"Well first off," I say, "I called Irene and she just told me that the Tree of Life found out about your father's getting Mina's book."

This seems to be bothering her a lot more than I thought it would.

"Well because of that, Irene told me that her and Archibald are getting pulled from the city," I say.

After taking a few seconds to pull up the picture that Irene sent me, I hand my phone to Charlotte.

"This is the girl," I say. "Her name's Noelle, and I guess she's Irene's twin sister's ex..."
"Wow, even your enemies are gay?" Gabrielle remarks.
"...she's also a member of that Qliphoth thing that the other two people I killed were part of," I say.
"I should have figured," Charlotte groans.
"That's another part of why Irene's getting pulled away," I say.

I don't know any other way to put this, so I'll just spit it out.

"What, they're afraid of her?" Charlotte asks.
"Her Branch is able to kill Irene off for good, so yeah," I reply. "But mostly, well..." I take a deep breath. "...they think that this is going to turn into some kind of feud between these Qliphoth people and your father's faction. Since I'm your girlfriend."
"Of course they would."
"What, they want one of us to wipe out the other group?" Gabrielle asks, peeking her head out from underneath her floppy-eared Shary-towel.
"......" I stare at her.
"What?" she shrugs. "It's what me and Shary would do."

Hearing stuff like that reminds me of the kind of family that I've decided to get involved with... I can't say that it's a good feeling.

"So what," Charlotte says, turning to me, "that girl called you to tell you this and that's it?"
"No," I shake my head. "She apologized a bunch of times and then texted me all the information she has on this Noelle girl's Branch."

Charlotte seems genuinely surprised, and the scowl she's had on her face ever since I first mentioned Irene actually vanishes for a few seconds.

"Yeah," I nod, "her Branch is called 'Blood Witch,' and it's got like... vampire powers or something."
"Wait, you have a VAMPIRE after you?" Gabrielle asks, staring at me.
"Kind of," I shrug. "She can pretty much do what Charlotte does except with people instead as long as she drinks their blood," I say.

I take my phone back from Charlotte and pull up the text detailing the Branch's abilities.

"This is what Irene sent me," I say, handing it back to Charlotte.
".........." as she pores over the message, Charlotte's eyes shine with a murderous glint.

"Now that we know what we're up against, " I say, "we can make a battle plan."
"Yes," Charlotte nods. "you're right."

Still with that scary look in her eyes, Charlotte gets up from the couch and begins walking towards the door to the terrace.

"Charlotte?" I call out.
"I already have Loki out looking out for anything strange," Charlotte says, "but now that I have an actual -picture- of this stupid bitch who's after your life..." she growls.
"You're gonna do like that movie again?" Gabrielle asks, looking over at her sister.
"Yes... I am."

A few seconds after Charlotte makes it out to the terrace, I see a few small songbirds land on the fence that she's leaning on. And then a few more join her.

Before long, I have a pretty good idea what movie Gabrielle was talking about.

"But when Charlotte does find her," Gabrielle continues, "she's probably gonna want to kill her herself instead of using the birds like I woulda done. Shary says that it's more satisfying that way."

"Guess I ought to do my part," I say as I reach for my phone.

"I need to call my friends and warn them about this," I reply.
