From what you could tell, your father and grandfather were arguing about your Quincy training. You know for a fact that it’s important to your grandfather and that your father doesn’t want you to go through with it, but you don’t get any of the details.

Unfortunately, your father takes the choice to talk out of your hands, and picks you straight up. “Come then, Uryu, let’s get that glass of water. Then you head straight back to bed, yes?” You mumble out a few words of agreement.

Eh. You can think about your future later, you think. You’re only five years old, after all.

Your grandfather lets out a breath of air. “In truth, Uryu, I am unsure. While I do have some experience teaching, their circumstances were remarkably-” your grandfather glances at your mother, though you don’t know why, “-different from your own. You could take significantly longer than Ryuuken did; just make sure that you remember that.”

Longer? Why would you take longer than your father? Is he just that good, or is it something else? You’d like some answers, but you doubt you’re going to get them right now.

Sometimes, you hate how in-control your father always is. It makes him feel distant.

Nonetheless, you slide your books out from under your arms, asking him to give you a hand since you can’t seem to figure anything out past the first so-and-so chapters.

Thankfully, your earnest expression seems to have warmed him up a little. The fact that you aren’t asking Quincy related probably helped too, since you could just barely see the ghost of a smile as he nods and bends down, placing you on his lap.

You take another gasping breath, and scoot yourself up another inch. There’s no sense in wasting time- you have quite a while to go, after all.

Everything aches. Your limbs ache from holding you up, your skin is sore from being blasted by sand for what feels like hours, and your brain is bored out of its mind.

Still, you did it. After what felt like an eternity, you made it. You made it to the very top of the Gunmen. The pressure you felt before is back in spades, but it feels almost ‘comforting’ as if congratulating you on a job well done.

To be honest, the top itself isn’t very impressive. It’s mostly made of a flat, featureless metal. The most interesting part is easily the cockpit, which you find in the middle.

It has only two handles for steering. However, that isn’t what catches your eye.
No, what you find most interesting is the strange spiral pattern in the very middle of the dashboard. It appears to be completely empty.

Your eyes flicker open at the sound of your name. Flicking your gaze around, you find that you’re once more in your room. When had you…?

“Uryu! Thank God you’re safe!” Your mother says, fiercely hugging you. You blink at the damp spot in your shirt. “You had been out for so long,” she whispered, “we’d thought you’d managed to hurt yourself somehow.”

“I-I’m fine Mom, I was just-“

“Just nothing,” she says fiercely, “Your father and I have decided that you are not to practice Reiatsu sensing again at least until your next birthday.”

Your eyes widen at that. “But-“

“No, means no, Uryu.” Your father says, suddenly appearing at the doorway.

“F-father-?”

“You were out for three entire days from Reiryoku exhaustion. I have no idea what you did to yourself, but all three of us- your mother, your Grandfather, and I- have all decided that it would be best you try nothing Quincy-related until we are certain your body has managed to shake off most of the effects completely.” He walks inside of your room, sitting down by the bedside.

“I-but- w-wait-“ You stammer out, trying to take control of the conversation.

“I most of all, must apologize to you, Uryu.” Rasps your Grandfather as he walks in himself. He suddenly looks a hundred years older. “I pushed you when it was clear you simply couldn’t handle it quite yet. If it weren’t for the fact that your father was at home, I am afraid of what would have happened…”

You stare at the three of them, desperately scrambling your brain for something to say.

This next update is going to be the last one for the thread. Thus, I'm going to give you guys one last chance to lock in your difficulty:

This is from lowest to highest difficulty, obviously.
The lower the difficulty, the more changes I make to canon. Gillian is about as close as it gets, while the BOX is certainly quite different.

There is no possible way you could have been able to tire out your Reiryoku to such an extent, unless-“ Your father shoots a glance at your Grandfather, “-someone decided to push you farther than he said he would.”

You manage to reply before Grandfather can retort, “But that really IS all I did. Well, I guess I did that one thing, but I didn’t think it would be all too hurtful…”

“…Uryu.” Says your father, his voice surprisingly full of emotion now, “What, precisely, did you do that you thought would not be so hurtful.”

“Well,“ You begin, “I was looking at everyone’s Spirit Ribbons, but it was a little hard to see my own since I don’t have much Reiatsu naturally. So I went and brought it up, like how you all taught me to.

“But the strange thing was,” you say, gesticulating wildly, “my Spirit Ribbon was Green, rather than white like every other humans’. I decided to check it out myself, so I sort of ‘grasped’ at it and, um, I guess I must have fallen asleep because I had this really vivid dream.”

“Tell us everything Uryu. What was this dream like? Did you see anything in it? Hollows? Other Quincies? Shinigami?”

You frown. “No, nothing like that. Well, I saw this really big Gunmen but-“

“Gunmen? Did someone try to shoot you, Uryu?” Your mother asks, panicked.

“What? No, not a GunMAN, a GunMEN. It’s like, this… really, really big… Robot? I don’t think that’s exactly the right word, but it’s the closest I’ve got.”

Let's go for adjuchas if it's a matter of continuity; I don't want to go completely off the rails, but I would like the chance to change how this goes, maybe put ishida in a spot where he won't be the posterchild of the quincy regime and meet the other characters way earlier than planned
