It really is like some kind of nature documentary... Noelle's the prey who's desperately running to escape her pursuer, Charlotte. But even though she's plenty fast in her own right, Charlotte's steadily gaining on her.

I guess my dead weight really was holding her back.

Once she gets within range, Charlotte kicks off the ground and launches herself at her fellow Witch Branch holder. With the way that her hands are positioned, it looks like she's aiming to snap the girl's neck... kind of surprising that she's going for a quick kill this time around considering the last time I watched her take a life.

I still have nightmares about that.

Just as her clawed hand is about to reach its target, Noelle pulls her head down and uses her momentum to roll her entire body into a full cartwheel. As Noelle's body rotates, her feet fly upward and catch Charlotte right in her stomach. The kick throws Charlotte over Noelle entirely.

Despite this unexpected counterattack, Charlotte doesn't even utter a grunt of surprise, instead shifting her body in midair and gracefully landing on her feet. If I didn't know better, I'd think that she planned on this from the start.

It looks like those two morons from before came this way after I dropped my illusion... they're still a little ways from reaching us, but they're still an issue that's going to need to be dealt with.

Since they saw both me and Charlotte, it's not as if we can pull a repeat of what happened with the cops. As I rack my brains for what to do about them (since we can't get rid of Noelle with witnesses around), my memory finally clicks.

I know where I saw them before.

They were on the news.

Two people who vanished and then reappeared without any knowledge of what happened to them.

I want to race in there and launch every last bit of light that I can create into that bitch's face. The desire to do this is so strong that it almost scares me. But having spent the past two months in and out of mortal danger (and with an evil voice in my head whose interests seem to consist of exactly two things), I'm used ot it by now. That's why I'm able to swallow my anger and not run in half-cocked.

With a wild cry, Charlotte leaps in with a claw swipe at Noelle's neck. Before the attack can connect, she backsteps just out of range of Charlotte's arms. This continues one... two... five times, all with the same result. With each miss, Charlotte's growls grow louder as if she's frustrated that Noelle's taunting her.

But this isn't the case at all. I've seen enough fights, both real-life and in games, to know that Noelle's movements aren't those of someone who has control of the fight. No, it's much the opposite- those risky moves are the best she can do in the face of my girl's relentless attacks. One wrong move will cost her bigtime, and she knows it.

Just as Noelle barely evades another swipe that would have otherwise torn her throat out, I take hold of the light from her eyes and pull it away.

"WHA-!?"

Jarred by the sudden loss of her vision, she reflexively begins to draw her hands towards her face, which is all the opening Charlotte needs. Maintaining the momentum from her failed attack, she lifts up her leg and swings her boot-covered foot directly into Noelle's chest. I'm pretty sure I hear something crunch as the black-haired witch is thrown back, rolling in the dirt a few times before finally coming to a stop.

As if on cue, the trees surrounding the park practically explode with screeching birds.

"And they led me right to you," she continues, flexing her hand before drawing it back for another go at her enemy's throat. But before Charlotte can attack, Noelle suddenly jerks forward and coughs up a massive amount of blood. Charlotte's able to leap back before any gets on her, but-

No, this wasn't an attack. Not by Noelle, at least. I draw my line of sight upwards and find Theresa standing directly behind her... with that same long sword-looking weapon stabbed down between Noelle's shoulder and her neck.

This continues for a few more seconds, with Theresa holding the blade in place while Noelle writhes in agony... but then both the convulsion and screaming come to an and and Theresa simply lets go of her sword.

"Looks like the charge ran out," Theresa says in a dejected tone as she kicks Noelle into the ground face-first.
"Ghhhhaa..." Noelle forces out a sound that's closer to the sound that you make when gargling mouthwash than anything resembling actual words.
"...damn, and she's still alive too." She looks up. "Hey Charlotte."

Charlotte flinches when her name is called... I guess Theresa just turned off her invisibility.

"I have another taser sword left but you can finish her off if you want," she says in a nonchalant tone.
"How kind of you," Charlotte replies. "I think I'll do just that."

Charlotte slides her foot underneath Noelle's chest and kicks her up in the air.

It's not from Noelle's throat being torn out, however. Somehow, she managed to muster up enough strength to move herself downwards and meet Charlotte's hand in her mouth.

And then she chomps down.

Charlotte's arm supports Noelle's entire weight as she clamps on tight with her jaw and drags her feet underneath herself.

"You really are stupid, you know that?" Charlotte says as she reaches for the hilt of the sword that's still embedded in Noelle's body and forcibly pulls it out from the front.

Then she looks up at Charlotte.

Both Charlotte and Theresa leap away from Noelle as blood flies out in every direction from her open wounds, but they're not fast enough. Both girls find themselves caught in a massive web of pure blood which slowly begins to contract around them.

Charlotte lands more-or-less safely on her back, but Theresa hits the ground face-first with a loud crunch. I breathe a sigh of relief as she pulls herself back up and begins to crawl away, but her mask... it's completely shattered to pieces on one side of her face.

She's expecting them this time around though, and bats them out of the air with another web of blood... this time sourced from the wound on her mouth that Charlotte made when ripping her teeth out.

Ignoring Charlotte, Noelle walks right past her as more and more blood pours from her open wounds and floats in the air around her. I have no idea how she's not passing out from anemia right now.

"Never should've wasted time with the other ones..." Noelle mumbles to herself as the blood explodes into countless tendrils that all race right towards me.

I'm not fast enough to dodge these things. But then again, it's not like I have to.

Pulling forth my inner reserves of light, I coalesce them into the pattern that I came up with last night during that fight against Glenn and arrange it into a massive flower that completely shields my body from Noelle's attack. As they hit my shield, the tendrils of blood hiss and evaporate into putrid air.

And since waste not want not, I throw the flower shield at Noelle once the danger to myself has passed.

Noelle shrieks as he massive barrier of light crashes against her, burning her skin everywhere it makes contact. While she does manage to push it aside before it can completely engulf her, I can see plenty of burn marks against her hands and elbows once it dissipates.

And those wounds won't release any more blood for her to use against me.

While Noelle growls every profane word she knows in my direction, I glance around her... it looks like both Theresa and Charlotte are on their feet and are edging away from her. Charlotte's kind of coughing and her hand's still dripping a bit from where Noelle bit her but is otherwise okay, and Theresa's breathing heavily and picking bits of fractured mask out of the black cloth that's covering her eyes...

they will not be forgiven

"Jessica..." Noelle says to herself while glaring at me. She slowly raises her hand in the air, then plunges it into the wound that my initial attack had cauterized.

I struggle to keep from vomiting.

"I swear I'll make sure you're able to rest in peace..." Noelle says as she pulls out her hand from her chest and releases a fountain of blood. I start to wonder if she's lost too much blood as she staggers towards me, but then it becomes very clear what her plan in doing so was.

All the blood that she shed lifts up from the ground and coalesces into a massive pair of jaws that begin to lurch towards me.

If that thing gets near me, I'm dead. That much is obvious. But I don't know if I have enough in me to actually destroy it outright... I mean, my lasers could definitely do it but it's sunset right now and there's no guarantee that I'd be able to gather up enough ambient light to pull one off in time.

...but there's always another way...

I pull some more from my inner well of light, drawing forth one... two... three... six swords of light as quickly as I can. Once they're out, I pull them in front of me and launch them towards my target.

As fast as I can make them go, they fly towards the blood monster. And then they fly AROUND the blood monster, converging once more to strike what I had intended for them to.

this is not the end of its suffering

One goes right through her right hand. Another finds itself embedded in her right shoulder and one more refilling the wound that she'd opened back up. A fourth and fifth pierce into either of her thighs, and the sixth is through her knee.

Her screams of agony fill the air, and I find it very difficult not to join in the laughter that's going on within my mind.

The only thing I hear in response from Noelle is the sound of air gurgling from her punctured lungs... I should probably finish her off before her wounds end up healing like that werewolf girl's did way back.

But just as I begin to think about how exactly I ought to go about doing that, I hear a crow cawing overhead and a voice calling out.

"Charlotte!" a familiar voice cries. "Cecile!"

Without taking Noelle out of my field of vision, I look back and see Gabrielle racing towards us with Shary in tow.

"Are you guys-" Gabrielle stops when she sees Noelle's sorry state. "...oh."
"Yeah," Charlotte says to her sister, "Cecile did a better job of taking care of her than we did."
"Wow."

"Stupid bitches in your stupid dresses..." Noelle says, crouching down and picking up a rock from the ground with her only uninjured appendage, "using the fucking CROWS to chase me down!"

With the kind of form I'd expect to see from a Major-League pitcher, Noelle takes the rock and whips it as hard as she can. I instinctively throw up a shield and Shary morphs into a wall that covers the Gauthier sisters...

...but that's not where it was aimed.

My entire body goes cold as I trace the path of the rock. Up into the air. And right into Loki.

After screaming at my girlfriend to pull herself back together, I throw up a hastily put together refraction field and race towards the falling bird in hopes of catching him.

Even though my running speed's easily the lowest of all of us.

Even though my stamina's been said to be at the same level as someone three times my weight.

Even though it feels like my heart's about to explode, I will my legs to move as fast as they possibly can, right towards the place where Loki would hit the ground.

Just to spite that stupid voice, I throw my stupid worthless legs into overdrive, propelling myself faster than ever before.

I leap forwards, twisting in midair so that my back hits the ground. I lift my arms upwards, absorbing the shock of impact as best I can a splitsecond before I find myself skidding back-first across the dry, pathetic excuse of a grassy field. I can feel fabric tearing, and it's a given that my back is now completely out thanks to the way I landed. This dress is pretty much ruined.

But I don't care.

It feels like I'm about to have a heartattack.

But that doesn't matter.

Because I was able to catch him.

Hearing that sound... It fills me with pure terror. Even though it's coming from someone who I love with all my heart, the only thing I can feel at this instant is fear. Frozen, I watch on as Charlotte crouches down to the ground and launches herself right at Noelle.

As she draws closer and closer to Noelle, it's like Charlotte's posture gets lower and lower until she's actually running on all fours. It's like she's possessed. Noelle throws up a barrier of blood to block her way, but a single swipe of her massive claws tears right through it like it was nothing at all.

The wall of blood splashes to the ground, and Charlotte continues on until Noelle is within her grasp. The Blood Witch tries to get away, but Charlotte's too fast, taking hold of her good arm and tearing it clean off.

With another chilling roar, I-

Wait, that's not from Charlotte. It's a cry of terror coming from Noelle as great, feathered claws rise into the air and tear down into her flesh.

By the time the gurgling cries stop, what's left of Noelle isn't even recognizable as once having been human.
