Well, I almost never thought that this day would come, but with the conclusion of SW89, PJW may finally come to a close, as well! This is probably gonna be a short one though, so let's get started!

You are Captain WILLIAM PIERCE, a combat rescue officer of the United States Air Force!

"I now pronounce you husband and wife."

The words still echo in your head, even many minutes after they've been uttered, as if it were all part of a dream. Your mind still can't quite process it all as real.

But here you were, hand in hand with Janice, a literal angel in her white wedding dress. And in front of you, there had to be dozens, no, hundreds of guests clapping enthusiastically.

"I thought you said this would be a SMALL and PRIVATE affair." You hiss to Janice.

"Eheheheheh, I'm sorry about that." Janice laughs nervously. "Me and Mom got a little... er... carried away when we were organizing the guest list..."

"You might as well have invited the entire damn Air Force here." You sigh.

Indeed, there were a very high number of military dress uniforms among the crowd, composing almost half of the guests. You can immediately spot the majority of them being USAF, with a few dozen or so uniforms from the other services sprinkled about. Hell, you even see RUSSIAN uniforms in the mix, as well!

"Well, come one!" Janice giggles as she tugs at your arm. "It's time to socialize! Come on!"

"Come on, let's see how my folks are handling all this." You say.

"Of course!" Janice nods with a bright smile before frowning. "Oh no! I nearly forgot I need to throw this bouquet! I'll be right back!"

"Don't take too long." You laugh as Janice shuffles away as fast as her heels and dress would let her. You continue on to where your family is seated, fortunately on the front row. Mom, Dad, Bree, Laika, Misono, and Artya.

"I swear." Dad sighs. "Every time I look away, you're always adding another girl to the family! I'd like to at least have a couple of grandsons!"

"And how the hell did you get married before me?!" Bree groans.

"Because you'd make a terrible wife." You say smugly.

"Why you-!" Bree makes to lunge at you but is quickly stopped by a tactical ear grab, courtesy of Mom."

"Now, now, you shouldn't fight in public like that." Mom says with barely concealed menace.

"Y-yes, Mom." You both say mournfully.

"Willy! Willy!" Laika gets up from her seat and stumbles a bit on her new prosthetic legs.

"Whoa, careful there, Laika!" You bend down to steady her. "Don't you remember what Sokolov said? Don't try any sudden movements!"

"But I wanna use them nooooooow!" Laika whines.

That Sokolov. Using a combination of striker and VDNI technology, managed to build a working pair of prosthetic legs for Laika. It wasn't anywhere near as advanced or efficient as the cybernetics Putin's Lazarus project was putting out, but they at least worked.

"It was a beautiful ceremony." Misono bows her head. "Though when you find a suitable husband for me, I would wish to have a Japanese-style wedding instead."

"Misono, I don't-"

Artya, in one of the rare moments without her gas mask, silently tugs at your sleeve and points to the massive wedding cake at the reception table.

"No, Artya, it's not cake time yet."

Artya's frown somehow grows deeper.

"Get ready, girls!" Janice yells as she stands on top of the steps of the wedding stage. "I'm about to throw the bouquet!"

"Oh, this will be good!" Mom chuckles.

"I already got the camera recording." Dad nods.

The bouquet twirls and spins in the air in seemingly slow motion, and down below you could see all of the various girls fighting tooth and nail to be in a position to catch it. You see dozens of arms reach out in the sky, but the bouquet manages to fly just past, or they don't quite reach it, and it continues on its ballistic trajectory to the ground...

...until it lands right into Tarin's arms.

Tarin just looks down and blinks in surprise. Meanwhile, jealous eyes surround her.

Actually the omiai is more complicated than that. It's not JUST an arranged marriage; it's a dating service.
The two sides are expected to go on three dates, and either side can cancel at that time with no loss of face. Just say that there were irreconcilable differences.
>>
>Oh, this will be good.

The question is not who will take it from her.

The question is how many will survive the attempt.
>>
>>43289196
It's because it's a free (for the two people involved) matchmaking and dating service that also means not giving up personal details to an unrelated third party.
>>
>>43289198
>>43289265

Well yes, but the salient point remains she's expecting daddy to find her a nice guy to marry rather than the usual western way of doing things.
>>
>>43289294
Its not necessarily bad tho.

We can do it if she really sucks on dating.
>>
>>43289373
I never said it was bad, though?
>>
>>43289294
Like the Western way is any better with it's high divorce rate.
So she want's to have someone who knows her and has her best interests at heart make her OKCupid account for her and check it every day on her behalf and only give her results that have already been checked and verified. What's wrong with that?
>>
>>43289418
And a frigid arranged marriage is any better?
>>
>>43289395
It's seen as defending the Western way of doing things as one of the original responses said that she needs to be taught the Western way of doing things.
>>
>>43289418

Aside from the fact that OKCupid is a cesspool, there's this big whole modern Western compunction against outsider involvement in relationships - your romance is something that YOU handle, without assistance/interference in it beyond potentially setting the initial date up and/or ensuring that the partner isn't insane/a criminal.
>>
>>43289477
I could say the same about Western marriages.
Are you defending Western courting practices as better than Japanese ones?
>>
>>43289546
And if she decides she wants help from us, in what way is that not fine? Abnormal is not bad.
>>
>>43289507
That's because she lives in the west now, so she needs an understanding of how it's conventions work. Ask a random person in '89 USA or Europe what an Omiai is, see how many blank stares you get.
>>
>>43289571
Hell yes. Arranged marriages, hell outside interference in a marriage in general is abhorrent.

You can immediately see the effects. Half the girls who actually know Tarin's reputation immediately back off, valuing their lives over a simple bunch of flowers. The other half, were either unaware or suicidally brave, lunging at Tarin to try and snatch the bouquet from her. You're not even sure if Tarin even knows the significance of the bouquet, but she protects it all the same, easily wriggling her way out of any attempts to catch her, batting away girls that get too close like ragdolls.

"Ah, this brings back memories..." Mom sighs nostalgically.

"Yep, this one's going on the highlight tape." Dad chuckles.

"Well, that little bit of business has been sorted out." Janice returns. "Shall we continue?"

I'd like to see the divorce rates in all those eastern cou tries with filthyv arranged marriahes if they had any sort of legal or social freedom to separate from a partner they disliked.
>>
>>43289756
And all of them forgetting that Pierce may not like the idea of arranged marriage.
I figure IF necessary, he will introduce Misono some nice man and see if it work, but not forcing it.
That assuming Laika will not do her best to find Misono some good guy too.
>>
>>43289847

No, that's the societal pressure to get married and have kids at a young age that permeates any heavily religious society.

The only 'problem' is that we removed the penalties for divorce before we pushed society away from the idea that marriage is a required part of being an adult.
>>
>>43289715
No, any sort of interference is disgusting, because it invariably gets twisted to the benefit and interests of those who interfere, asked for or not.
>>
>>43289907
They have the freedom to do so, but maybe they shouldn't have gotten married in the first place if they're just going to get divorced later.
The response of >>43289699
that I'm overlooking things that might make people agree to a marriage they normally wouldn't endorse seems outweighed by the number of people that, given the freedom to do so, only get married to later regret it.
So it would seem that the American traditions also makes people agree to marriage when they really shouldn't, since about half of marriages end up in divorce later anyway.
>>
>>43289968
...I think your opinion of people seems pretty low. I personally asked for my siblings help with my latest relationship, after my last one went to shit. I at least definitely appreciate some outside help, and my partner had no issues, so... Yeah. Help can be good. Not always, of course. But sometimes.
>>
>>43290069
it's more implusiveness than any real pressure, ESPECIALLY in Hollywood (it doesn't help that most people there aren't used to working hard for stuff)

In a certain sentence writing a quest/etc is like marriage: it takes work and if you go into it expecting it to be easy it'll end badly.

>>43290123
Yeah but no one expects a husband handed to them.
>>
>>43290069
That assumes that divorce is a bad thing. You strip religious connotations from marriage and it's simply a contract between two individuals - and contracts get anulled when they're no longer beneficial to the parties involved.

"Come on, let's go check out the Russians." You say, narrowing your eyes. "You didn't try to invite Putin, did you?"

"Well, the thought DID cross our minds..." Janice chuckles nervously.

"Honestly." You shake your head. "Who are they, then?"

"Well, some of them are the Russian sailors we saved in Alaska. They were very grateful, after all." Janice smiles. "And a few others."

You get a strange feeling about the "few others" Janice was talking about, but shrug it off. Immediately, you are barraged by a bunch of grateful Russians, rigorously shaking your hand pushing bottles of vodka into your arms. Not a single one of them spoke a lick of English, saying words of gratitude in their native Russian. It was both endearing and a little confusing. However, like a storm, the whole event passes, leaving you face to face with a Russian general leaning on a cane.

"I'm sorry, I don't believe we've met, General...?" You reach your hand out.

"Orlov." The general gives a warm smiles and shakes your hand. "And yes, we have not yet, but one of my subordinates has."

"Really? Who?" You blink.

"Just a second." Orlov turns head. "He is here. You may come out now. Don't be shy."

And out steps the last thing you expected to see. There was Raikov, wearing a black formal gown, her eyes glued to the floor and trembling as if she's about to drop dead from a heart attack.

The religious connotations are the least of the problems that divorce causes.
Those contracts tend to lead to legal battles concerning ownership of assets, liability for debts accrued during the period in which the contract was in force, and custody of children.
Getting into a contract that leads to prolonged legal disputes is not a good thing. Especially if it leads to bloating of the court system.

>the slavery that results from arranged marriages.
Just because two people met each other through a marriage meeting and decided they liked each other enough after dating that they would get married, doesn't make it slavery.
You assume that both parties must get married, or that they even want to date on their own.

There are plenty of people that would tell you to mind your own business, so why don't you butt out of their relationships, since as you said, third-party interference in a relationship is inevitably twisted to the third-party's own ends.
What's your end for interfering in the relationships of others and demanding that they use one method and one method only?

Citing the Japanese omiai practice, and specifically a 35 year stable marriage as the test case.

The arranged marriage systems in India and the Middle East aren't even similar to the modern Japanese matchmaking system.
>>
>>43290659
Yes, but, going back to what started this shitstorm to begin with, if Misono wants Pierce to filter out guys for her to meet, it's her choice. Also, given the characterization Pierce has had so far, he would do well at that.

Also, the arranged marriage system in said chinese cartoons would be the most pertinent since Misono is fucking japanese and would follow their traditions since she was brought up as a high-class japanese woman from a prestigious family.
>>
>>43290786
i think we should separate Omiai and arranged marriage in context.

>If kariage speak the truth, Its more like dating service
That is how it was explained to me, and how I experienced it.
It was a matter of looking through a number of filtered profiles, choosing which ones seemed to be the most compatible or most interesting, agreeing to a date (the person handling the omiai matched up the calendars), and then going on a date.
Eh, it didn't work out, so both sides called it a wash and went our separate ways.
It was really just a blind dating service with a human doing the matching rather than an algorithm.
>>
>>43290958
Training the next batch of PJs? Staying in the AF? Living off Janice's money?
>>
>>43291019

Well, wait. I guess with the offered profiles, it wasn't really a blind date.
So just a personalized dating service handled by a person instead of a machine.

Wasn't he getting pushed towards politics? If not him, then at least Janice, with all of the connection-making she's been doing on the side.

>>
>>43291019
And I've seen so many hundreds of actual arranged marriages where the people actually getting married hated it, had no legal or social recourse to annul or prevent it, and it was all done to the benefit of their families who were arranging it.

So it's lovely that you had a nice little fairytale date in your tiny little country, but a systemic, festering rot in a nation of a billion tells me that i'm going to hate the very concept of interference in marriage until the day I die.
>>
>>43291106
No, not necessarily. Sure, a good economic standing is a point for a candidate, but that's true of any regular dating service as well as regular dating, isn't it?

Ideally, omiai looks for good personality compatibility; trying to set up two people for a relationship is no good if they end up not being compatible.

Though saying that money wouldn't be a factor is a downright lie, since of course money is going to be a deciding factor for some people.

>And not on who has the biggest wallet?
That's like saying money, apparent socio-economic bracket, and good looks aren't deciding factors in dating. Some people are after smarts and personality, but that's not going to apply to everyone.

"So Raikov, how do you feel about meeting Red again? Get a proper chance to talk to her?" You ask.

Raikov makes a quick glance to Orlov, as if silently asking him for permission to speak. Orlov gives a fatherly smile and nods. Raikov snaps her head back to you.

"That would be nice." She mumbles quietly.

"See how simple that was?" Orlov says appreciatively.

Raikov just nods in response.

"Anyways, I was always kind of wondering." Janice speaks up. "How is Russia now that the war is over?"

"Truthfully, I cannot say much. I've spent most of the war besieged in Vladivostok." Orlov shakes his head.

"But you did join up with Putin's faction." You point out.

"Only as a matter of convenience." Orlov explains, his eyes shifting. "Though I did not fully agree with how Stalin ran the country before, I find little difference between him and Putin in many ways. They are both men who vie for power and willing to stoop to any low to achieve it."

It's kind of a moot point, because even if the marriages weren't arranged or interfered in, there's no legal recourse for intervention or divorce in those cases in the first place. Gods help you if you're a woman there, you are for all purposes a chattel slave.

Broad westernisation and emancipation is the answer, but that'll be decades or longer in coming.

But then, if there is broad Westernization and legal and social protections for women's rights, you'd still be against intervention by third-parties, whether they be government agencies or concerned friends and family, in the internal affairs of a marriage, even if it's to protect a spouse that's being victimized.

Broad Westernization and emancipation don't mean much if a couple get married and later one ends up abusing the other and no one helps because it's a private domestic matter. That's just putting all responsibility for defense on the victim, and saying that bystanders should not interfere at all.

You head over to where you squadron is gathered. Tarin is still clutching the bouquet close to her, like it was a critical mission objective. Red was with Ugly, just laughing at how Tarin, who showed the least interest in marriage, somehow managed to catch the bouquet. Nungesser is also present, gleefully taking notes on everything she sees, no doubt to use in her own wedding with Bullseye. Your pilot, meanwhile was taking full advantage of the full service bar. Rex and Ghost were also present at the buffet. Even Jetstream and Euclid were present, each of them wearing traditional Japanese kimonos.

"It's good to see you all here." You grin. "Red, I got a new friend here for you."

"What are you talking about Cap- YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" Red gasps, instinctively reaching for her nonexistent sword.

"Wait, she's not here to fight." You say. "Red, I think she wants something to say to you."

Red and Raikov stare at each awkwardly, the two former enemies unsure of what to say.

"Yeah..." Red scratches her head.

Raikov silently bites her lip. You give Red an encouraging nudge.

"So yeah, you get anything to eat yet? Janice's parents shelled out for the best caterers on the West Coast!" Red offers.

"That... that will be nice." Raikov nods and yelps as Red grabs her hand and yanks her away.

"Such a cute pair." Janice smiles.

"Yeah... let's go with that." You shake your head. "Nun, I see you're doing well."

"Of course! So many things to keep track of!" Nungesser beams brightly. "Janice, you simply MUST help organize my wedding! Everything must be absolutely perfect!"

"I'd be glad to!" Janice says happily.

At the bar, you see Bullseye instinctively crush the glass he's holding, as if he had just gotten a big shiver up his spine.

"It's a pity the Emperor and Princess Katsumi could not attend, though." Janice sighs.

"What, you invited THEM, too?!" You cry incredulously.

"Well, why not?" Janice shrugs.

"They would have loved to come, but there's still so much for them to do back in Japan." Jetstream explains. "But me and Euclid here are fully representing their interests."

"That's nice." You nod. "I've heard that you two might be out of the IJA, though?"

Both Jetstream and Euclid look at each other.

"Well, yes and no." Euclid speaks up. "With the war over, the Emperor has been moving to shrink the IJA and IJN back down to prewar numbers. We do have the opportunity to stay, due to our status, but, well..."

"We do not like the idea of stealing a position from other witches when we have other options." Jetstream finishes. "Me and Euclid have received offers from both the Royal Guard and the United Nations to join their ranks.

"Excellent!" Colonel Kelsey guides you over the gaggle of officers, all of whom eagerly shake hands with you and congratulate you. There's so many and you're moving so fast, you never are really able to catch any of their names.

"Damn fine job you've done, son." General Granger says as he gives your hands a hearty shake. "You and your squadron have done the Air Force a great service."

"Just doing my job, sir." You say humbly.

"You know, I've got a family now." You say proudly, hooking an arm around Janice and nodding to your three adopted daughters. "I still want to stay in the Air Force, but I think I'm done with fieldwork."

"Completely understandable." Colonel Kelsey nods. "With your service record, I think I can get you to at least Colonel. We'll figure out a duty station later once everything is sorted out."

"Really?" You widen your eyes. "Me, a colonel?"

"Colonel Pierce has a nice ring to it." Colonel Kelsey laughs. "Well, I'll see in the office then!"

The rest of the reception is kind of a blur of activity and partying. Meeting old friends, making new ones, and promising a better future. However, as with all things, it had to end eventually.

"Shall we?" Janice takes your hand with a bit of a seductive grin. "Our honeymoon awaits~."

"Heh, of course." You say, tugging at your collar.

The two of you make your way to the driveway as the guests pelt you with flower petals and dry rice, though Janice slides to a stop.

"That's odd." She frowns. "Where's the limousine we rented?"

"Ha!" Hoskins laughs as he walks up in a suit that barely fits him. "A limousine's not good enough! We felt that if you were going out like this, it had to be in STYLE."

Suddenly, you're blasted with a gust of wind as a white and pink Pave Hawk, with ribbons and cans hanging off the landing gear, tail, and refueling boom lands on the driveway. Bullseye pokes his head out of the window.

"You two need a ride?" He gives a smug grin.

"It was his idea for a surprise." Rex explains.

"Bullseye you son of a bitch." You laugh and turn to Janice. "Shall we?"

"Let's." Janice nods and you both step inside. Rex slides the door closed from the outside and pounds a fist on the side to let Bullseye know everything was good to go.

"All right!" Bullseye says happily as the Pave Hawk gains altitude. "So, where you do you lovebirds want to go?"

"I don't know... surprise us!" Janice giggles as she kisses you on the cheek.

"Yeah, surprise us." You agree as you give a loving squeeze to her hand.

"One surprise, coming right up!" Bullseye nods as goes full throttle.

SOKOLOV

Dr. Sokolov remains with DARPA, where he continues his work with VDNI and other witch/machine interfaces. In later years, some of Sokolov’s crowning achievements include various revolutionary technologies such as prosthetic limbs for witches, and advances in VDNI that allow a single pilot to control multiple aircraft remotely and simultaneously.

COLONEL KELSEY

Colonel Kelsey remains with the Air Force, eventually being promoted to the rank of general. Like General Granger before him, Kelsey is a large proponent for the modernization of the Air Force, as well as investing heavily in new and exotic technologies in order to improve American air power.

KELSEY FAMILY

Red’s mother and father remain in the field of science. Her father decides to go into the civilian market, taking up a job at Brookstone developing many commercial gadgets and electronics. However, her mother decides to stay with DARPA, continuing to provide her vast technical knowledge to the Department of Defense. Eventually, in the 2000s, the culmination of her work, the Strategic Laser Anti Martian Shield (SLAMS) is finally completed. In addition, she designs the core module for the Air Force’s Freedom Star orbital defense station. It is launched without a hitch from Vandenburg Air Force Base, through it draws much international criticism.

Not much is really known about what Colonel Anderson does postwar, as he fades back into the shadowy veil of military black operations. What is known is that he eventually retires from SOCOM in 1996, and lives out his retirement in comfortable seclusion, writing memoirs of his past experiences which he knows will never be published in his lifetime.

COLONEL VOLGIN

Taken into American custody, Volgin is swiftly brought before a war crimes tribunal over his participation in several projects that involved the kidnapping, brainwashing, and experimentation of a number of witches. He is unanimously found guilty and sentenced to death. However, even though is officially listed as executed, there are no publicly available pictures of the actual execution or his body. In reality, Volgin negotiates a deal with the CIA where he gives them all the information of every black project he ever worked on. In return, he is spared from execution and lives under house arrest in a secluded ranch in Montana. Despite his lenient sentence, Volgin never ventures far outside his fortified compound due to fears his many enemies, including Raikov, will return to finish him off.

GENERAL ORLOV

Despite being hailed as the “Hero of Vladivostok”, Orlov politely declines to serve in Putin’s new army and opts for early retirement. Also, since Raikov’s parents cannot be found in the chaos of the postwar period, he takes it upon himself to become her official legal guardian. He still lives in Vladivostok, though, as he had grown rather fond of the city. In 1992, he runs for and succeeds in becoming mayor of the city, which is a position he still holds to this day.

Unfortunately, Raikov could never quite adjust to civilian life. Despite living with Orlov as his adopted daughter for several years, he one day comes home to find a note thanking him for everything he’s done for her. With an apparent new purpose in life, Raikov gathers many similarly disenfranchised or traumatized witches and forms a private witch group that swears no loyalty to any nation or coven. This group mostly consists of former Soviet witches, several Valkyries that opted not to follow Putin, and even a few Western witches. Raikov and her band of warriors are sighted in conflict zones all across the world, from the sands of the middle east to the jungles of Africa and South America, to the beaches Southeast Asia. For many years, Raikov’s group causes certain politicians and matrons to lose much sleep. However, NSA intercepts show she still keeps in constant contact with Orlov and Red, and her tracked movements often have her making regular visits to Russia.

Hessler stays with the Panzer Corps, where she is promoted to the rank of General due to her actions in decisively seizing Minsk, and is eventually granted overall command of all of Germany’s Panzer units. Despite calls for Germany’s demilitarization, she lobbies to keep the Panzer Corps intact, preventing the mass scrapping and decommissioning of hundreds of Leopard 2 tanks. She’s often worshipped by her fellow Germans as a modern day Erwin Rommel, earning her the moniker “The Silver Fox”, a nickname and association she always tries to downplay out of embarrassment. She eventually marries an American tanker she met during the war, finding a mutual love for tanks and a mutual dislike for her rival, Wittman.

Like her friend Hessler, Elsa decides to stay in the German army. However, due to the Fallschirmjagers being heavily downsized postwar, Elsa transfers to the Panzer Corps as one of Hessler’s direct subordinates. While lacking the relative freedom she had as one of Germany’s special forces, as well as utterly lacking the discipline and patience needed to be a proper officer, Elsa still manages to find her niche in Hessler’s command structure as her “extrajudicial problem solver”. When not attending to Hessler’s needs, Elsa can be found playing with her “war prize” she brought back from Poland.

THE EMPEROR

After the end of the war, the Emperor manages to negotiate a peace treaty with China and Russia. As a result of Japan’s victory, Japan manages to annex numerous contested islands, as well as all of Kamchatka. However, despite the territorial gains, Japan suffers a massive hit to its overall military strength. The Emperor uses this situation as a pretext to grant Korea its independence, thereby freeing up additional Japanese troops and resources to consolidate their new gains. The release of Korea from its colonial chains is a move is celebrated by nations all over the world, securing a Nobel Peace Prize for the Emperor. However, he doesn’t have long to enjoy it, as he passes away peacefully of natural causes in 1998. Despite his wishes for a small, private funeral, the Japanese government instead gives him a full state funeral, with representatives from all over the world in attendance. His oldest son and successor promises to keep his legacy alive in the years to come.

However, after a couple of years of traveling on the road, Jetstream eventually grows frustrated at the lack of any serious challenger to her skills. ERNESTINE NUNGESSER/BULLSEYE

As expected, Nungesser and Bullseye marry in 1992, which causes quite a scandal back home, with a French noble witch like her marrying an apparently “lowly” helicopter pilot. Of course, Nungesser does not take these criticisms well, and a few black eyes and broken bones finally silence the naysayers. Nungesser remains with the French Air Force as one of its top witch aces, while Bullseye retires and spends most of his days at their French chateau, tending to Nungesser’s daily needs as well as taking care of their many, many children. The current count is three sons and five daughters. He still keeps the old Pave Hawk, and can occasionally be seen flying it over the French countryside.

Both Rex and Ghost decide to stay with the Air Force. Despite an opportunity to be commissioned as an officer, Rex politely refuses and decides to stay as a lowly airman. After the war, he continues the same duties that he had done prewar, mainly participating in joint SAR training exercises with young witch recruits all over the country. Suffice to say, his mailbox is always packed full with “letters of appreciation”, much to Ghost’s annoyance. Ghost meanwhile continues her duties as one of the Air Force’s black ops witches, and not much is really known of her activities. However, she and Rex do officially marry in 1993, and finally makes peace with his parents. The one thing that Rex does regret about the war is being continually compared to his brother Frank, not out of jealously, but because he’s constantly bothered by reporters and fans wishing to get close to him. Together, he has twin sons with Ghost. There’s also the fact that some of Frank’s daughters seem to like him more than their own father...

TARIN RICHARDS

Tarin decides to stay in the military, but not as part of the Air Force. Instead, she is recruited into the CIA’s Special Activities Division. Obviously, the exact nature of her actions are shrouded in secrecy, though the postcards she occasionally sends to her close friends all originate from exotic locations like Panama, Iran, Somalia, and more. She also becomes something of a bogeyman among foreign intelligence agencies, picking up the nom de guerre “Baba Yaga”. It’s to the point where many agents and black ops teams frantically request emergency extraction at the very mention of her name. It’s a shocking surprise to everybody though, when in 1991 marriage invitations are sent to close family and friends when she marries an Army Ranger she’s worked together with on more than one occasion. Even being pregnant with a daughter doesn’t stop her from participating in field ops.

Red stays with the Air Force, eventually being promoted to captain herself and leading her own Combat Rescue team. She is sent to conflict zones all around the world to support both military and humanitarian missions, and the nature of her work almost always keeps her in constant contact with her old friends and colleagues, much to her delight. She never forgets the lessons Pierce imparted on her, and always does her best to save everybody she can. In 1993, she finally marries Ugly, and they have one son and one daughter. When not on duty, she and Ugly, being the adrenaline junkies they are, often go out on “extreme” vacations. Funnily enough, on one such outing, Red just happens to cross paths with Raikov, and they celebrate the coincidence by base jumping off a nearby mountain.

Despite being the parents of a pair of war heroes, Pierce’s mother and father opt to live a quiet life in retirement and avoid the public eye. However, they do babysit their grandchildren from time to time, and are always happy to host anybody from the old squadron that happens to arrive at their door. Pierce’s father also manages to fix up his old F-4 Phantom, and regularly takes it out on both the airshow and air race circuits.
BREEANA PIERCE

Bree remains with the Air Force after the war, and due to her fairly good combat record and minimal loss rates, is promoted to be a full wing commander. Her Air Force service isn’t particularly special or noteworthy, though she is universally loved by the witches under her command as a “big sister” type of commander. She marries her childhood sweetheart Charlie in 1994, and has two daughters and one son.

With exact origins still unknown, it’s a relatively simple matter for Pierce to have her adopted as a daughter, and her naturalization is fast tracked. However, Artya never quite fully recovers from her experience of surviving a nuclear blast. Despite her adoptive parents’ best efforts, she never utters a word for the rest of her life, and still carries an acute fear of fire. This setback does not stop her from attending her adopted mother’s witch academy. While she certainly isn’t the smartest witch in the class, she proves herself as one of the most pragmatic, often defeating her opponents in field exercises with clever and unorthodox thinking. When she graduates, Artya is recruited to be a Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape trainer, teaching young witches how to survive in hostile environments behind enemy lines.

Like her sister Artya, Misono attends her mother’s witch academy. Due to her fastidious and hard working nature, Misono graduates at the top of her class. However, the loss of her blood father still eats away at her, and there are many nights where Misono stares at the moon, katana in hand. For many years, the Royal Guard keeps a close eye on her in case she decides to take vengeance on the Emperor or his family for the destruction of hers. Fortunately, Misono gives them no reason to be suspicious, and the surveillance is lifted with the Emperor’s death. Upon graduation, Misono joins the Air Force like her adoptive father and eventually becomes an aggressor witch due to her close combat style. Misono becomes something of a legend in Red Flag exercises, and many witches and pilots consider it great feat to be able to defeat her in combat, with the select few able to do so painting a special kill marker on the sides of their craft or strikers.

LAIKA PIERCE

With the war over, Laika is forcibly removed from the Air Force in order to finish her studies, much to her dissatisfaction. Laika proves to be a lazy but brilliant student, with her short attention span often getting in the way of academic success. However, she proves to be a hard worker when her mind is set on something. Upon graduation, Laika immediately returns to the Air Force, where she becomes an official test pilot. Over the years, she flies many experimental and exotic planes on the behalf of the USAF and even NASA. Despite many repeated offers by defense contractors, Laika is not interested in flying for the private sector and remains with the Air Force, though she does fly with and against Frank Bishop from time to time in the course of flight testing. Though official records show no instance of Laika or Frank ever flying against each other in a fully simulated aggressor scenario, there are rumors that such a battle occurred over Edwards Air Force Base, and was so intense that both pilots had to be hospitalized for weeks due to the excessive G-forces they were subjecting themselves to. In later years, despite her disability, Laika passes NASA’s astronaut training program, and is tapped to be the pilot for an eventual expedition to Mars.

WILLIAM AND JANICE PIERCE

After the war, Pierce transitions from field ops to a new position as a liaison officer between the USAF and the Air Force witch academies, which works out well for him since it gives him constant and close access to Janice and his daughters. Janice meanwhile serves several years at the San Diego coven as an assistant matron. However, thanks to a combination her war record, marriage to a war hero, as well as various family connections, Janice is swiftly elevated as matron of the Santa Monica coven. During her tenure, Janice sees many famed and future famed witches pass through her halls, including her own daughters, and quite a few witches from the Bishop clan. Pierce himself often works to coordinate activities and curriculums between the various California covens, and his work to standardize educational guidelines and rules among all of them inadvertently leads to uniting all of the West Coast covens into a single regulated entity. To this day, Pierce and Janice remain as inseparable as ever. In addition to their three adopted daughters, in later years, the couple has added one son and one daughter to the family. Of course, Pierce always works hard to make sure that at least once a year, the old squadron can come back together to reminisce on old times, and talk about new ones. And every year, this gathering grows little by little...
