"It's like the girl said," my father say,s having returned from the kitchen. "Cecile's puny and weak. Absolutely pathetic, if I do say so myself. I have no idea how someone so frail could have come from ME," he says while flexing his giant log-like arms.

Theresa then removes the bottle from her head and immediately starts chugging it down like it was the most delicious water in the history of all mankind. I'd have a joke to say about that if not for the fact that I do the same thing when my father hands me one.

"And now I should probably tell your mother about how you almost killed yourself," he laughs. "See you around."
"Ha ha," I reply in a total monotone.

That water really hits the spot. A few minutes after I finish off the bottle that my father gave me, I'm actually feeling not really as horribly winded! Hooray for hydration!

"Do you think you'll be up for what we talked about yesterday?" Theresa asks. "I mean, I completely understand if you're done moving around for the rest of the day."
"I'm okay," I shake my head. "I just need to take a little while to recover and then I'll be good to go."
"If you say so," she nods.

Having reconfirmed that I'm still going to be joining her on her little mystery outing, Theresa breathes a sigh of relief.

"I guess I'll head home to take a shower and get changed and all that," she says. "Give me a call when you're feeling up to it and then we can get going, alright?"
"Aye aye," I say with the laziest salute possible.

Gathering all my strength into my aching thighs, I force myself to my feet and walk Theresa to the door like a proper host should. I'm even kind enough not to call Irene over to come ogle her while she's in the sportsbra/bikeshorts combination that serves as her jogging gear.

I'm so nice.

After seeing Theresa out, I lock the door after her and start the excruciating crawl up the stairs. It's enough to actually make me wish that my father was around to carry me up to my room. But since he isn't, I make it up there under my own power and immediately collapse on my bed upon reaching it.

I spend what seems like forever just staring at the ceiling while I recover.

"Hm? Is something the matter?"
"That's what me and Theresa are trying to figure out," I reply.

I then give Charlotte a quick rundown of what Theresa told me about her stint into burglary and her chance meeting with her fellow kite (minus any specific details since we're on the phone). I can't say that Charlotte sounds particularly happy to hear about any of it either.

"So we were going to maybe investigate what's left of the place where she ran into that other guy," I say, "and I was wondering if you'd mind helping out since you've got kind of a knack for that."
"Of course I'll help out," Charlotte replies. "Especially since I already know there's no way that I can talk you two out of it," she mutters under her breath.

I can't say that she's wrong about that.

After the requisite declarations of love and all that, I take a few more minutes to lie on my bed and stare at the ceiling some more before finally getting back on my feet and stumbling my way to the shower. Its hot water does wonders for my aching muscles... but I remember that I can't exactly stick around for long since there are presently three other people in the house who have yet to use it so I'm not able to stay in there for as long as I would've liked.

But at least I'm feeling a fair amount better than before.

Once I've dried off and gotten dressed and all that, I grab my phone and stumble back down to the first floor of the house to try and replenish some of my energy through the wonders of sugary breakfast cereals.
