You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the new wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

After paying Nerillian's daughter Sibylle a visit, you returned to the palace and spoke with Lord Bernadotte about the councilmen opposed to the crusade. He offered you some advice on how to convince them, then you made your way to the meeting room. It's time for the first council meeting to begin, hopefully you're ready.

“Please be seated, the High Council Meeting will begin shortly."

You take a seat at the long table. Laurentius seats himself next to you, and the honor guard stands in the back behind you. A moment later, Lord Bernadotte enters the room as well, and takes his seat opposite you and Laurentius.

“Where is his highness?” Laurentius asks.

“His highness is resting in his room. He says he feels ill, but reaffirmed his previous stance on the matter of the crusade.” One of the councilmen responds, an elf with a trimmed beard.

“His majesty really should get rid of that useless healer. First the prince, now him.” Another grumbles, this one an elderly man with a bald head covered in liver spots.

“For once, I believe we're in agreement Moeller.” Lord Bernadotte agrees. “Regardless, if his majesty will not be attending today's meeting, then let us call this meeting to order.”
>>
>>43898380
“Right then. As first order of business, I believe we should continue our previous discussion about the new tariffs on-”

“With all due respect, Traultmann, I believe that topic can be saved for later.” The bearded elf interjects. “Besides, our guests have come a long way, it would be impolite to delay the matter which they've come all this way to discuss.”

“Daffner has a point. Are there any objections to starting with the matter of the crusade?” Lord Bernadotte asks.

No one raises their hand. Lords Traultmann and Moeller frown, but say nothing.

“Good, then let's start with our guests. I believe neither Siegfried nor the good Captain require any introduction, so let's jump to the heart of the matter.”

“Yes, let's do that. Tell us Champion, why should we send you men and resources for something that has consistently failed time and time again?” Lord Moeller says, not even trying to hide the venom in his words.

You feel a pang of irritation from Galadriel at the old councilman's words. Something tells you this is going to be a very long meeting for her.

It is a good start.

If we paint the picture that the demons are on the move regardless, then its less "pointless waste into no where" and more preemptive defence.

Being the champion makes us the biggest bullseye target for demons in the world, which protects their fat arses.

Thats the point where you say do they belive a champion of the sword would commit such a sin as lie to them.

You take a deep breath, think about what you're going to say, and start.

"The first thing you all need to understand is that Iseria doesn't have the luxury of deciding whether we want to get involved or not. Just look at the Battle of Morsland, they're not waiting around for us anymore. They've started attacking our cities, striking out into our territory. We won that battle, the first demon attack in a very long time, but that can't last forever. We have to go on the offensive."

You pause a moment to collect your thoughts, then continue. The table listens to you closely, waiting for you to finish before making their own comments.

"In the first couple months after I became Champion, I met face-to-face with Alastor himself. If there's anything I learned from seeing him, it's this: He is bored and getting impatient, and it's only a matter of time now before Malaphas lets him off the leash."

"If I may, what you're failing to realize here is-" One of the noblemen starts. He is cut off by Bernadotte, who raises his hand to silence him.

"Lord Barthelmes, you know the rules. No one speaks until the previous speaker is finished, that applies to our guests as well."

"...Right, excuse me." Barthelmes apologizes with a sigh. "Well then, please continue."
>>
>>43900465
You nod, and take a moment to recollect what you were about to say before continuing.

"As I've said, Alastor is growing restless. During my time on one of his farms, I saw him pit people against each other in an arena for his own amusement. Those that "proved" themselves were slowly turned into demons, bit by bit. At first when I saw this, I thought he was amassing an army to attack Morsland. Then, after we broke out, he just slaughtered his own warriors. He wasn't building an army, it was all some sort of twisted hobby to him, a way to stave off boredom. That's not the only example I've seen of Alastor's twisted sense of entertainment. There's a young man I met in a village called Lynn by the border who ran into Alastor as well. From what he told me, he managed to break out of the farm he was imprisoned in along with everyone else being held there. Rather than running for the border though, they decided to try and march on Alastor's fortress.”

This elicits some skeptical looks from the rest of the council. You're not surprised, it'd take a special kind of fool to march on a demon lord's fortress without a crusade. Had you not seen Wilhelm's axe, you might not have believed him yourself.

“Do you have any proof that this actually happened?” One of the councilmen asks.

“There was an axe he had with him, he said he took it from the demon that was in charge of his farm. I took a look at it, Galadriel herself said it belonged to a powerful demon named Marbas. Everything he said about Alastor matched what I've seen of him too, so I believe him. Galadriel does as well.”

The councilmen nods. “Alright then, continue.”
>>
>>43900482
“In the end, they never reached the fortress. Alastor decided to come to them instead. From what he said, Alastor toyed with them for a while before slaughtering every one of them in a single blast. Then Alastor gouged out his eye, and told him to run for the border and deliver a message to me. Before he let him go though, he summoned some sort of fire wolf to chase after him and told him to run. When the villagers found him, he was half dead and covered in burn marks.”

“You said Alastor gave this man a message specifically for you. What was the message?”

“He said 'Hurry up'. That's the sort of man Alastor is, and that's why Iseria needs to join the crusade and fight back. Alastor is staring at us from across the border, just waiting for Malaphas to give him the order. Whether Iseria joins the crusade or not is irrelevant, if we don't go to him then he'll come to us.”

There's a moment of silence as the council considers everything you've told them. From the grim looks on some of their faces, you think you've managed to get your point across.

“Thank you, Siegfried. Now then, if anyone would like to speak the floor is now open.” Lord Bernadotte announces.

“I've got some things to say.” Lord Moeller says, raising one wrinkled hand.

“Very well then, you have the floor.”

Lord Moeller rises to his feet. “Thank you. Now, before I start, I'd like to clarify something. Siegfried, you said Alastor sent this boy back from the Forsaken Lands with a message specifically for you, correct?” Moeller says, pointing at you.

“Yes sir.”

Lord Moeller says. “Alright. Now, you're saying that Alastor won't wait on us, that he's just waiting for a chance to attack us. Here's what I think: I don't think it's Iseria he's after, I think it's YOU he wants.”
>>
>>43900526
“What are you trying to say Moeller?” One of the councilmen says, frowning.

“I mean exactly what I said. Think about it now, Alastor doesn't send troops to attack us until AFTER he's met him. Not only that, but when he attacks he singles out his city specifically. If it were an invasion, then he would have attacked one of the border cities, not some trade city days away from his lands. To top it all off, he spares a runway from his farm specifically to deliver a message to the Champion. What all that tells me is that he's not interested in Iseria, he's interested in the Champion himself.”

“The Champion is the head of the crusade, of course a demon lord would target him specifically. What's your point?” Laurentius asks, sounding a bit irritated himself.

“What I'm saying is, if he's not here, then we have nothing to worry about. Send him to Galloway or Belmore, get him out of our hair. Let the Lord of Wrath go fight him and the other kingdoms while we go about our business.”

At your side, you feel Galadriel start to grow warm. 'What a deplorable old man.' She says. 'He would throw the people trying to protect him out of his kingdom in the hopes of staying uninvolved.'

You're not exactly happy at the suggestion of being banished either, but you do your best to stay calm. Now would be a bad time to lose your head, you need to come up with a counter argument to shut Moeller's idea down.

>Argue that banishing you and staying out of the crusade will make Iseria weak to attacked

Wouldn't banishing the first Champion for 200 years and the hero of Morsland really piss the people off? Specially since he is a Iseria native as well.

ehh, I'm just not in the zone right now for some reason. Feel free to ignore my spaghetto

>our business
What exactly is "our business"? Is it not to protect both the short and more importantly LONG term security of the kingdom and its people?

Are the other kingdom's not allies? Trade partners? Fellow humans? Do you not think that to betray them would be damning us ALL to the demons?

>or at least, mention how demons are also empowered by such callous apathy and disregard for fellow men, how we have no guarantee that they will never set their sights on Iseria in the future.
>>
>>43900617
>Moeller will be significantly more difficult to convince, as he is a stubborn old man who will not change his opinion easily. >but remember that Shapeshifter's are Levi's children
Shapeshifters aren't specific to Envy. There are demons of Pride, Greed (like that Imp), and all other sorts that can change shape, it's just Doppelgangers that all fall under Envy.

As for whether or not Leviathan can sense demons, she can sense them to an extent, yes. In her current state, Ganelon can probably sense them better than she can though.

>>43900617
This is what Bernadotte said about him last thread
>Moeller will be significantly more difficult to convince, as he is a stubborn old man who will not change his opinion easily. Basically, he's a grumpy old man that's stubborn as hell but might be swayed by gold, or the potential loss of it.

Hmm a smart man can profit in war. Does Iseria have any resources of abundance that could support a war effort by selling them to other kingdoms?
>>
>>43900734
If the other kingdom's economy takes a hit, they will be less able to trade, and they certainly won't take predatory deals from Iseria if Iseria so blatantly caused their current economic dilemna.

Iseria actually has the leading economy amongst the greater kingdoms. There's a lot of exotic goods they trade from their colonies in the Western Isles which range from spices to alchemical ingredients to exotic lumber and beyond. As for resources that could support a war effort, Iseria has a lot of lumber and a fair bit of iron, though Belmore has them beat in iron resources. There's also a lot of shipwrights in Iseria, so they could potentially sell ships to the other kingdoms.
>>
>>43901082
If they let the other countries to die, they won't have anyone to sell their goods. I mean you seriously think Alastor would BUY something?

"With all due respect sir, I don't think the other kingdoms, particularly Galloway, would react well if the first Champion in 200 years was banished. I doubt a lot of people in Iseria would take well to that either."

"The Champion has a point, Lord Moeller. I assure you, Galloway in particular would be up in arms if we were to do something so brazen." Lord Bernadotte states with a very unamused expression.

"I'm in agreement as well." Another councilman speaks up. "I mean Aureus sake, you're proposing we banish the Champion? Have you finally gone mad or something?"

The rest of the table voices their opinions one by one. In the end, only Traultmann and Barthelmes support Moeller's proposal, and the idea is formally thrown out. Moeller sulks in his chair at the mass disagreement, and you think you notice him shoot a sideways glare at Lord Kraemer. It seems he expected Kraemer to back him up there.

"Alright, now with that sorted out, does anyone else wish to speak?" Lord Bernadotte asks.

Lord Daffner raises his hand. "I do."

"Very well, you have the floor."

"Thank you. Now, I hope all of our guests will forgive me for being blunt, but I believe one of the largest concerns those of us in opposition have about participating in the Crusade is the outcome of those before. It's no secret that every crusade in the past has ended in failure, so in the end our concern is that we'll direct our resources to you and they'll all go to waste like they have in the past. If I may ask, what exactly makes this time any different from the past crusades?"

"Andras was supposedly the best champion we had since Asher himself. I crippled him BEFORE I became Champion, back when I defended Galadriel from him during the Ceremony. Then defeated him when he attacked my hometown by severing both his legs. Ever since Andras's betrayal Galadriel raised her standards for who would be Champion. Thats why its been so long. how many casualties do we have so far? 2, from the Galloway trial? That should speak for SOMETHING.

As for other matters, we are considering drawing on....other....avenues of strength. Wielded carefully, demonic weapons can serve as able supports. Not quite as strong as a champion, but good strikeforces that can rescue farms. As long as they are disciplined and not in any one place long enough for demons to lay a trap for them, there is potential for good.

And I REALLY don't know about this one:

During my training, there happened to be a failed kidnapping of me. I was able to draw out SOME information from the kidnapper: The demons themselves are starting to become divided. There is an opportunity, if we play our cards right.
>>

>>Argue that the kingdoms are more advanced and have better resources than before
200 years is a long time, gentlemen. I'm assuming we didn't just sit around with our thumbs in our rears technologically. I've heard about this portable artillery device that uses alchemy to propel metal spheres at high speeds; I believe they call it a, "cainon"?
>>
>>43901672
We should keep them secret. Revealing them would be a bad idea and Levi's existence would discredit us immensely.
>>
Alright, writing now.
>>
>>43901841
While bringing up our low casualty count is good I wouldn't do the other two.

Demonic weapons is an unknown scary prospect that we don't even know will work. We don't know how they'd react.

As for the 'divided' information, they could turn it around and say it was planted to provoke a crusade. Its dumb but these are politicians.
>>
>>43901841
>>43901921
We already know that using demonic weapons can corrupt a person (and eventually convert them into another demon if I'm not mistaken?) so it's a pretty bad idea to bring them up.

"200 years is a long time. Not only that, but without the regular demonic invasions we've had time to recover our strength and make new discoveries. We're not the same as we were 200 years ago, out magic is better, our economy is bigger, and our weapons and armor are stronger. Not only that, but I think it's fair to say that I'm different from the old Champions as well."

Your last comment causes some of the noblemen to raise eyebrows, Daffner included. You do feel weird comparing yourself to past Champions, but right now you need any sort of edge you can get to convince the council that this crusade will be different than the others.

"And what exactly makes you say that?" Lord Daffner asks.

"Well sir, everyone says that Andras was the strongest Champion since Asher, and the first time I fought him I managed to cut his arm off. That was before I was even Champion, when I had to use the Watchtower's gloves just to lift Galadriel."

"All luck, nothing else." Lord Moeller says.

"Luck is a skill in itself, Lord Moeller." Captain Laurentius interjects. "Sometimes, it's the determining factor in who survives and who does not. Even greater though is a man with both luck and skill, and I assure you that when Siegfried defeated Andras a second time at the Battle of Morsland, that was not luck."

You think you see a vein start to bulge in Moeller's forehead. It's very clear that he's not happy with the direction this debate has been going at all. He starts to open his mouth to speak again, when Lord Barthelmes cuts in.

"Lord Bernadotte, I think it would be prudent if we were to call a recess now, give everyone a chance to stretch their legs and think on what's been said thus far."

Lord Bernadotte nods. "Very well then. We shall call a recess for now. We'll come back in ten minutes to discuss other matters and continue our debate on the crusade tomorrow evening."
>>
>>43902580
With that, everyone starts to get up and stretch their legs. Lord Barthelmes walks over to Lord Moeller and leads him out of the room, apparently trying to calm him down.

"That's all we're needed for today, none of us need to be here for the rest of today's meeting." Captain Laurentius informs you.

You sigh. "Good, I think that's enough politics for today."

"Agreed. You did a good job though, I believe you may have given our opposition a bit to think about before the next meeting. Go get some rest, you've earned it. That goes to the rest of you as well." Laurentius says, nodding to the honor guard as well.

With today's discussion over, you have the rest of the day to yourself. Outside, the cathedral bell rings eight times. What should you do now?

Reference the fact that all the other times before, The kingdoms were facing a unified front of opposition from the demons.

However, given the boredom Alastor currently faces and internal politics you have gathered from your time in the camps rescuing prisoners, it seems that there might be a civil war amongst the demons for leadership soon, if not happening already.

A strike at this time is the perfect opportunity to push back the enemy while they are not united and gather lands lost hundreds of years ago.

You decide it's probably best to speak with Lord Bernadotte about what happened before the council regroups, see what he thought about the debate. You catch him at the door just before he leaves.

"So, how do you think it went?" You ask him.

"Better than expected, I'll admit. Mind if we walk and talk?"

You shrug, and follow after him. Both of you begin traveling down the corridor, towards the staircase.

"So, how did I do?" You ask.

"Not bad. I confess, I expected much worse to be honest. You kept a level head while Moeller was talking about banishment, that was good. I noticed you sounded a little off when you started comparing yourself to the old Champions though, it made me wonder if you completely believed what you were saying or not."

"Was it that noticeable?"

"Not in particular, but after years of experience in politics you start to pick up on small things like that. Humility may be a virtue, but here all it's going to do is get in your way. Right now the council doesn't need a humble Champion, they need a confident one, someone they can put their faith and money on."

"I'll try to keep that in mind."

"See that you do. Outside of that, however, you did a decent job. I don't know if you've changed anyone's minds, but you've certainly given them a couple things to consider. I think Daffner is on the line now, only thing holding him back is Lamprecht. One more good push might draw him to our side though, all the more so if Lamprecht can be swayed."
>>
>>43903530
"What about the others?"

"Barthelmes is still a puzzle to me, I don't think he'll be switching sides unless you can figure out what's going on between him and the king. Traultmann won't budge unless Moeller does, so I wouldn't hold my breath. As for Moeller, I wouldn't bother with him at this point. The stubborn old fool probably won't budge for anything short of a small fortune now."

"Is Lord Moeller always, er..."

"A short-tempered fool? Yes, yes he is. Frankly I can't stand the old man, and I don't think I'm alone there either. He is stubborn, uncompromising, and short-tempered, everything I despise in a person. I still can't believe he motioned to have a Champion banished, it's like he doesn't stop to think about the consequences of what he says at all. He would never be on the council were he not a duke."

That bit about short-tempered people makes you worry for a certain quick-tempered red head you know, but you say nothing. Truth be told, Erika has been really subdued since you came to the capital, it's a little worrisome.

We should wait with the Erika reveal until later.

Also on our next meeting we just have to point out the fact that most high ranking nobles and probably the King him self are potential targets for shape shifting demons and mebtion that it'd be wise to hire bodyguards from Ganleons order since they can sence the presence of demons.
>>
>>43904324
We weren't planning to reveal Erika. That should be on her terms.

The issue with the shapeshifting thing is that we could easily be accused of accusing the people that disagree with the crusade that they are just demons in disguise, possibly offending many of the councilmen.

You AREN'T wrong but, Moeller will twist anything he can.
>>
>>43903555
"You said Barthelmes made a deal with the king, but he wasn't here today. They said he was feeling ill, what's wrong with him?"

Lord Bernadotte sighs. "I don't know. I tried visiting him yesterday, but I was told by the guards that his majesty is not feeling well and was not receiving visitors. Whatever's wrong with him, I do hope it's not serious."

You nod. It would be really bad if the king were to pass away. Five years ago, you remember hearing news that the king and his family were attacked on the roads by bandits. His majesty survived, but the queen was killed in the attack and his son, still a baby at the time, was taken hostage. A ransom was paid and the prince was returned, but from what you've heard the prince has had poor health and rarely leaves his room. If the king were to pass away now, a regent would have to be appointed for the sickly prince.

As you both start climbing down the staircase, you try and change the subject to something a little less gloomy.

"In any case, I've been meaning to ask you something. Back in the meeting room, it looked like you were the one taking charge for the most part. Why is that?"

"It's a part of my job. As the king's appointed councilman, it's my duty to lead the High Council's meetings when he is absent."

"Oh, so you were appointed by the king?"

"Yes. My father was good friends with his majesty's father, so our family were fairly close until recently. When his majesty ascended to the throne, I was appointed as his High Councilman like my father before me. I suspect my son will not be following in my footsteps now that I've gone against him in the matter of the crusade, but I suppose it is worth it in the long run. "

"Oh, you have kids?" You ask, thinking of Erika and curious to see what he'll say.

"Yes. Two sons, one 18 and the other 16."

"No daughters?" You blurt out without thinking.

"Unfortunately, no." Lord Bernadotte responds simply. "Why do you ask?"
>>
>>43904624
"Uh, just thought I should try to learn more about the people I'm working with is all." You tell him.

"Fair enough, I suppose."

"Anyways, if you're friends with the king, any idea why he's opposed to the crusade?" You ask, trying to change the subject.

"I would not be so presumptious as to call us friends, more like...political partners. As for why, I'm afraid I don't know. Like I said, it is rather unusual for him. Normally, he will attend the meetings and listen to both sides before he comes to a conclusion, but this time he's decided his stance before the meetings even began. I've only seen him do so a few times before, it's somewhat puzzling."

"Well then, any advice how to change his mind?" You ask.

"No, I would have to know why he's opposed before I could make a suggestion, but since he's accepting no visitors, I'm afraid we'll just have to focus on the councilmen instead. We'll work on convincing Lamprecht and Daffner tomorrow, convincing them will give us the majority and that's all that matters."

The two of you come to a stop outside of Lord Bernadottes quarters, one floor down from the meeting room.

"In any case, I have a few things to gather before the meeting resumes. Try thinking of ways to persuade Lamprecht and Daffner before the discussion resumes tomorrow."

"Will do sir."

"Good. Oh, and one more thing. Tell those two with the helmets in your guard to take those off during the next meeting. I didn't say anything before, but this is not the Watchtower. It's rude to wear helms indoors."

With that, Lord Bernadotte closes the door and you are left standing in the empty hall. Now that you've spoken with Bernadotte about the meeting tomorrow, you ponder what you should do with the rest of your night.

With the warning Zaphiel gave you in mind, some of what you've heard from Lord Bernadotte raises a few flags. Just to be safe, you decide to head back to your room and meditate, speak with Galadriel and Leviathan a bit about what's going on.

Upon entering your room, you lock the door behind you and take a seat on your bed. Once again, you find yourself wondering if it's possible to meditate with Leviathan's belt in the same way you can with Galadriel's sword. Your curiosity gets the better of you, and you decide to meditate with Leviathan's belt. Pulling the belt off, you set it in your lap and close your eyes, focusing on a mental image of the belt just like you do when meditating with Galadriel.

------
Contrary to your experience meditating with Galadriel, the only indicator that you've passed into Leviathan's mental plane is a sudden dimming of the light. When you open your eyes, you find yourself in a vast, dark expanse, sitting all alone in front of what you originally thought was some sort of strange mountain.

And then Leviathan opened her eyes.

You nearly jump to your feet when you see the "mountain" open it's giant green eyes. With vertical pupils similar to a snake's, Leviathan's eyes alone are significantly larger than your house back in Morsland. Actually, you think they may be bigger than the palace you're staying in right now. There's a loud woosh of air as Leviathan raises her head and extends it closer to you.

"How unusual. Normally it's the pigeon you visit, not me. Take a wrong turn or something?" Leviathan says, in a voice which echoes in your head much like when you're not meditating. Here though, her voice sounds much louder, loud enough to drown out almost all your other thoughts.

"No, I came here for a reason." You respond, once you manage to find your voice.

"And what reason would that be?"

>"I don't suppose you've sensed anything strange since we came here, have you?"

"Well first off, do you have a less...giant form? It's kind of hard to talk to someone the size of a mountain."

There's a loud, discontent hiss, and suddenly Leviathan begins to shrink. Little by little, she shrinks from the size of a mountain to the size of a castle, and as she continues to shrink you notice some of her features become less reptilian and more human. Eventually, you find yourself standing in front of a woman with a human body and a large snake tail where a human's legs would normally be. Even in this form she towers over you by a foot or two, but it's much better than before.

"I do detest this form, but there are disadvantages to being as large as I normally am." Leviathan complains, this time at a normal volume and out loud rather than in your head. "Now, what is it you want?"

"Well Leviathan, after hearing some of what Bernadotte said I'm a little concerned. What do you think are the odds that Lilith's forces could have infiltrated the nobility here ove-"

"It's a certainty." Leviathan responds immediately.

"Well that was fast. What makes you so sure?"

"Because it's exactly like her to do so. Galloway and Belmore most certainly have a couple noble houses that have been infiltrated. Iseria, however, is absolutely ideal for one of Lilith's spies to infiltrate."

"Why's that?"

"This council system. The other kingdoms are completely led by a single king, with lots of attendants who would probably notice something was odd if her spies tried to impersonate them. Here, you have multiple nobles voting to make decisions. It would be much easier to blend in after impersonating a councilman than a king, especially if the spy could infiltrate one of the duke houses and replace the oldest son while he's still young."

"So you're saying one of the councilmen might be a spy?"

"Most likely, yes."

"Did you sense that any of them were demons during the meeting?"
>>
>>43905872
"No, but that doesn't necessarily prove anything. Since it's Lilith, she might have sent one of her own spies to do it."

"What do you mean, what's the difference?"

Leviathan crosses her arms. "You have to remember, Lilith is Malaphas' spymaster. That means she's not just keeping tabs on mortals, she's keeping tabs on other demons as well. To do that, she has a caste of Pride demons that are specifically taught how to hide their aetheric presence, meaning they can even deceive other demons. Those are some of her best spies, so it would make sense that she would send one of them for a job this delicate."

"So, what you're telling me is that there is most likely a demon running around in the council, but you can't sense it at all?"

"Yes."

"And I suppose you wouldn't be able to sense them if they're there either, would you Galadriel?"

'No.' Galadriel responds in your head. 'There are few differences between what a demon can sense and what an angel can detect. If she can't detect it, then in all likelihood I won't be able to detect it either.'

You bring a hand up to your face and groan. "Why is this shit never easy?"

"It's not like there's no way of knowing." Leviathan mentions. "If they use any of their other powers, then both me and the angel should be able to tell. That sword should still burn them regardless of their disguise too, use that if you can."

"Alright, well that's something at least. The question then is, if one of the councilmen is a spy, then which one is it? Bernadotte mentioned the king's been acting a little strange lately, could it be him?"

Leviathan shakes her head. "Not a chance. Like I said, too many people would notice something's off if they tried to replace him."

"Okay then, well in that case maybe it's one of the nobles opposing the crusade? Daffner is close to changing sides, so it's probably not him. That leaves Moeller, Traultmann, Barthelmes, and Lamprecht, right?"
>>
>>43905884
"I wouldn't assume Lilith's spy is one of the councilmen in opposition. It could just as easily be one of the ones on your side, trying to manipulate the vote in some way while avoiding suspicion."

"Then...what, I should just check all of the councilmen to be sure?"

"That's where you should start, yes. If it's not one of them, then it could also be someone else. One of the servants maybe, they're able to enter the council's rooms without suspicion, maybe look through their things and find something to blackmail them with."

You massage your temples, slowly starting to grow more worried. "So, it could be the councilmen, or it could be someone else entirely. Basically, we're not completely sure who it could be either way."

"Lilith is many things, but she's not incompetent. If she where, Malaphas would have killed her off a long-"

Leviathan cuts her sentence short and turns her head suddenly, sniffing the air. Her eyebrows furrow and she frowns.

"Well speak of the Imp."

"What? What's wrong?"

"I' just felt something in the palace. It's gone already, but I'm sure it was a demon."

'I noticed it too.' Galadriel says solemnly. 'I can't feel it anymore, but I believe it came from one floor above us.'

In the end, that proves unnecessary as you find Ganelon is just leaving his room down the hall as you do.

"Ganelon, did you sense that?" You ask.

Ganelon nods. "I did. Did Galadriel sense it as well?"

"Ganelon, let's split up. I'll check out the disturbance, you go get Laurentius."

Ganelon nods, and you both make your way towards the staircase. As soon as you reach the second floor, you both go your separate ways.

'It was coming from this direction, keep going forward.' Leviathan instructs you. You do as she says, and eventually arrive right in the councilman's quarters.

'Here, behind this door.' Leviathan says, stopping you in front of one of the councilmen's rooms. You draw Galadriel, take a deep breath, and open the door.

What you find inside stops you nearly dead in your tracks. Lying on the floor, covered in blood, is the body of Lord Kraemer. Across his torso lies a large gash where some sort of sharp weapon cut him from hip to shoulder. Blood soaks into the carpet underneath him, implying that the kill was fresh.

'This scent...Looks like it was exactly as I feared.' Leviathan mutters. 'Lilith's spies were here.'

You're still processing the scene, trying to figure out what you should do when you start to hear the sound of footsteps coming from down the hall.
>>
I'm awake now,if that counts.

Also Levi shut up what's wrong with being small.
>>
Alright, gonna call it a night here. Sorry for the long delay for a short post, almost fell asleep at my keyboard there. Next thread should be either Friday or Saturday unless something comes up, keep an eye on the twitter just in case.

Speaking of twitter, for those of you that don't follow mine and don't read the general, I'm now thinking of running a Monsters and Other Childish Things campaign sometime soon, probably after the semester's over (only a few more weeks!). HSQ still has priority, as usual, but I'm already brainstorming ideas for this new quest. Now if only finding art for it were as easy as brainstorming.

I'll stick around for a little bit longer to answer questions if anyone has them, either about HSQ or the upcoming MAOCT quest. If I fall asleep and miss any questions, I'll answer them soon as I'm awake. Thanks for playing folks, hope to see you all again next time.

Would we have been framed as a murderer if Ganelon hadn't sensed the demon as well?
>>
>>43906333
I bet you 8 quid and a doodle that this happens,it sounds like that kind of set-up.
>>
>>43906333
Who knows? To be fair, you are currently standing in a dead councilman's room (a duke, no less) with sword drawn. Whether you're found or not, and what happens if you are, depends entirely on what happens next thread.

Also, keep in mind that you being in the wrong place at the wrong time doesn't necessarily mean it was a set up. Could just be an unfortunate accident (or fortunate, in their case).
>>
>>43906316
We are going to have Levi cast an illusion of a demon flying out of the room to get an aliby.
You should abandon the idea of framing Sieg with murder.

Also the question from before.
Can we get the option to learn body strenghtening magic?
We are already used to fihting without armour and our boosted magic powah from Gal makes it an ideal option to grow stronger.
>>
>>43906316
whoops, I fell asleep.

>>43906286
I don't see how this would benefit Lilith. There has to be more to this if it's a setup, it's too obvious.

What does anyone think of the king's child being a demon, or locked in some kind of demon controlled curse?
>>
>>43906389
It's pretty obvious with Sparks hinting at the children of nobles being replaced at a young age and the prince having been kidnapped as a baby so nobody can notice.
>>
>>43906384
>Can we get the option to learn body strenghtening magic?
You can, yes, but you'd have to learn from the militant order that uses it or someone else who knows how to cast spells like that.

That order is in Belmore, but once the Crusade begins most militant church orders like that will be getting involved as well, meaning you'll probably run into them at some point.
>>
>>43906419
Or we could learn it from Joans dad who seems like some bretty good wizard... When are we going to meet him?

>>43905884
Lord Bernadotte could be a demon and the reason he didn't say he had a daughter was because the real Bernadotte sent her away before he was swapped

Or he could be so ashamed that he disowned her and and told the Champion a lie in spite of the fact that he knew Erica could've been serving at a watchtower and there was a possibility of the champ meeting her.

Both options seem fishy.
>>
last bump
>>
>>43908402
Or Erika left her family at the time when demons started replacing them (thus accounting for the reason why she was miserable at home).

So my bet is on the Prince being replaced while he was an infant and the Bernadetge clan aside from Erika bein completly replaced.

Also Sparks is trying to frame Sieg here so let's plan how to pull out.
Let Leviathan create an illusion of a shape shifting demon escaping while we pretend to be chasing it.
It gets us out of trouble and gives us the perfect excuse to check everyone in the palace.
>>
>>43908545
Or point to the unsullied holy sword you're holding and say "There was a demon, it seemed to manifest then run", check vitals (protip, he dead as fuck), then explain to Laurentius that he should put the guards on alert and get info on who would be allowed into this area of the castle, suspicious activity etc.
>>
>>43908545
>Using demonic magic in contrived attempt to pretend we didn't do something we actually didn't do
Levi pls stop coming up with plans that create more problems than they solve.
>>
>>43908545
>Also Sparks is trying to frame Sieg here so let's plan how to pull out.
I'm not necessarily trying to frame you guys for anything, I'm just presenting you guys with a problematic scenario. If I wanted to frame you guys, I would have said something along the lines of you hear the sound of clattering and glass shattering behind you. When you turn to look behind you, you find one of the servants looking at you in horror, her eyes darting between you and the body of Lord Kraemer. It strikes you that from her perspective, it looks like you may have murdered him".

Also, >>43908596 has a point. There's no blood on your sword, you could just explain to them that you arrived at the scene and found Kraemer this way. Certain members of the council might try to accuse you anyway, but you'd have a fairly solid case. Remember that Galadriel is an angel, she wouldn't have stood by while you cut down an innocent member of the council and everyone knows it.
>>
That took a bit longer than I though, but I'm back nonetheless
>>
>>43908545

Let's ask more unrelated stuff nao.

If we train healing magic enough will we be able to regenerate like demons do at some point and also will we be able to heal old wounds (cue on healing Joans vocal cords like a good bro)?
>>
>>43912113
It's because she can't manifest hands in her sword form, probably.

>>
>>43912379

I
How is that even possible
Well aside from overcooking or picking the wrong kind of broth maybe, but
>>
>>43912415
Believe me there are people who can do that (i managed to fuck up once when i was 14 and added too much water so it was more like a soup with beans and sausage... What's worse is that i'm a better cook than the rest of my family).
>>
>>43912480
Hmm maybe what we refer to as hot pot is something else then?

I'll get to it later on
>>
>>43913329
Well here it's something we have in common with the Hungarians, it's called chorba.
Just hotpot with potato slices, beans , tomato, garlic and paprika broth and some kind of meat (either fish or sausages).
>>
>>43912113
>If we train healing magic enough will we be able to regenerate like demons do at some point
To an extent, yes. It wouldn't always be active and it wouldn't be as potent as, say, Andras' regeneration, but there are spells for that yes.

>and also will we be able to heal old wounds (cue on healing Joans vocal cords like a good bro)?
Depends on how old and how severe the injury is. A stab wound is fairly easy to fix because then it's as simple as patching up the wound. The problem with older injuries is that by then you probably have scar tissue in your way that you'll have to deal with as well. Healing at that point would require that the wound basically be reopened before you can patch it up. That requires a fair bit of skill with healing magic, and depending on the situation might require a bit of knowledge about anatomy to really work. It's also worth noting that this would hurt like hell for the patient, so most healers would put a patient into a magic-induced trance before they start.

So basically, it depends on the age and severity of the injury. If it's really bad, you might need to know a bit about basic anatomy as well in order to heal it properly.

As for Joan's vocal cords, it's possible. You'd need to get pretty good at healing magic and learn a bit about how vocal cords work before you could pull it off though. She'd have to trust you quite a bit before she'd actually let you as well, as things could go really wrong if you were to screw up.

Well new list of professions and classes Sieg has:

Blacksmith
Guard
Fighter
Blade pact Warlock
Wizard
Enchanter
Teacher (he's been basically helping Erika grow up and mature)
Angelic Sorcerer (the taint from Gal after becoming permanent champ)
Tourney champ
Wingman
Victim of court intrigue

And in the future by what the anons planed:
Doctor of medicine
Monk
