We are Sirena Le Doux and we seek revenge against our former master. So far, we've grown more powerful, but there is much more to learn. With our list of allies and teachers slowly growing, we won't stop until we've reached the top, because that's where our former master waits.

When we last left our hero (Yeah right!), she had scoured the crypt of the Redford Family with the assistance of the stalwart Ben, the sneaky Kaylessa and the virtuous (but young) priest Alex. There, within its depths, Sirena was transported to a terrible realm of darkness but was rescued by her friends. After a big celebration and a wild night of fun, we have since spent a week studying and taking things easy. But our leizure can only last so long...

Our story continues!

It has been a week since last we controlled Sirena Le Doux. In that time, we have accomplished a few notable things.

A brief summary:

>The tower has been completely cleaned and refurnished with new furniture, wood and doors
>Psuedo-adopted the boy cleric Alex as the group "kid" with his own bed in the tower
>Sorted through the spoils from our last dungeon delve and split them accordingly
>Had Ben profess his love to us on the night he rescued us from the shadow plane
>Along that note, Ben has pretty much moved into the master bedroom with you
>Learned three new spells from Faye in the schools of Restoration, Divination and Holy magic (one each)
>Taught Faye some spells from the schools of Necromancy, Transmutation and Illusion
>Studied Albert's book some more, unlocking some new potent spells and abilities
>Alex and Faye have both begun training Merriam in Restoration spells, which she has taken to learning quickly
>Ben has been training hard with Brutus and Kaylessa, focusing on honing his strength and archery
>You have yet to learn a way to harness any power from the shadow essence left inside of you

Life has settled into a reliable routine. You have spent the week studying, training and helping your allies. Thanks to connections with Mayor Jed, you were able to get new floors and support beams for the tower, construction of which is still ongoing but is steady. Ben has, in addition to training hard every single day, fallen completely in love with you and is utterly devoted to you. Most nights are spent with him, rewarding his hard work, and he certainly has been working hard. Every day he chops wood, trains with his sword and shield, and keeps himself in shape, mostly because you like him to be and that is all the motivation he needs.

Your mirror twin, Faye, has calmed down considerably. She hasn't wandered off or enacted any plots against you and seems now to merely be enjoying her time in this realm, almost like it is a vacation from hers. While you have busied yourself with Ben, she has made sure to keep Merriam and Kaylessa both busy and loyal, giving each of them the special attention they deserve, and has respected your orders to stay away from Alex. On the subject of the child, he has remained at the tower to both keep his promise to help you deal with the dark essence he detected within you and is awaiting a second journey into the crypt, half of which remains unexplored. Your group has been planning their next expedition carefully.

Before we delve too deeply into our new story of the day, let's decide on a new daily power that we have learned from Albert's book.

>Spirit Rend - You weave a dire spell that tears at your enemies’ spirits and holds the undead at bay.
>Lifetaker - You crook your finger and snatch a soul as it struggles free from its body. It screams as you draw forth its energy.
>Grasp of the Grave - Skeletal hands burst from the earth and ghostly claws swirl from the air to snatch at your foes.

Having something to combat the undead is immensely useful. Should we ever face a necromancer stronger than us, this will be useful.

Here are the spells we learned from Faye:

Cure Light Wounds: You may cast this spell upon a target, including yourself, to heal them instantly for a degree of health. This spell can only heal minor wounds such as semi-deep cuts and cannot regenerate lost limbs or fatal damage. This spell does not instantly heal broken bones but can help the flesh around it settle and promote quick recovery.

Divine Blessing: More of a prayer than a spell, one casts this spell to seek favor from a chosen diety, which is invoked at the time of casting. Its effects may not always be readily apparent and, depending on the diety chosen, may take different forms than what was desired.

Detect Weakness: By casting this spell and focusing on a specific target such as a creature or an object, you gain knowledge of its specific weaknesses. This extends primarily to harmful effects, and a creature of neutral origin may not have anything it is specifically weak to. However this spell will also let you know about physical defects you could exploit, such as a loose door hinge or a weak ankle.

>>Grasp of the Grave - Skeletal hands burst from the earth and ghostly claws swirl from the air to snatch at your foes.
>>
>>1137610
Does detect weakness also work on mental defects? Like if someone's bipolar, it'd tell us about chemical imbalances in the brain.

Spirit Rend it is.

>New Spell: Necromancy
>Spirit Rend: Daily Spell. This spell can target a single enemy or a close group of enemies. This spell targets their living souls, robbing them of their fighting courage and will to act, effectively paralyzing them with fear. This spell does hurt them, sending chilling necrotic essence through their bodies to freeze their limbs until they can break from its effects by their own will. If this spell targets the undead, rather than attack a soul or paralyzing them, it instead dazes them; making them confused and likely to wander aimlessly until its effects wear off. During this time they are extremely more susceptable to controlling spells.

A friendly warning: While it is not as pronounced when casting at-will spells, daily spells threaten to overwhelm our power. Too many in a 24-hour period can be extremely taxing.

So, where does Sirena find herself at the start of this lovely day?

Morning. Sunlight streams in through the nearby window, the songs of birds fills their air, and Ben is snoring. Your brow furrows as you sit up in bed, the sheet falling from your nude form as you look over at him.

'If only there was a spell to fix that,' you think as you stretch your limbs. You were up late into the night studying and so you and Ben were not physically intimate, which usually leaves you in a state of slight soreness. In a good way, naturally. It seems that even when you don't blow his mind he still sleeps like a log being sawed upon. Approaching your new desk with its mirror, you take the time to beautify yourself; straightening your hair, applying some light makeup.

Small comforts that serve as crippling reminders that you once lived in luxury with handmaidens who did this sort of thing for you. Waited on hand and foot, lording over others in a position of respect and envy, enjoying the finest things a noble can enjoy...

And here you sit in diguise as Mary, combing hair that isn't your natural color. Still, all things considered you've done quite nicely. You are in a position of power, albeit not nearly as great as your old one, and you have devoted allies who are working towards your cause. Looking back at Ben, perhaps your most loyal companion, you smile as you observe his rising and falling chest. He's a very satisfying lover and ever since he proved his love by venturing into that dark realm to pull you out you've made sure to reward him thoroughly.

With your morning ritual complete, you dress accordingly for the day.

After clothing yourself in your chosen attire, you throw a pillow at Ben. He awakens with a startle. "Get up, lazy. We've got places to be today."

"Oh, yeah," he says as he runs a hand through his hair. "Should I wear my new armor?"

"I do think you look rather handsome in it," you slip the suggestion to him, which means he'll make it happen. He scrambles out of bed as you open the trapdoor to walk downstairs. Kaylessa is out for her morning hunt, and the young Alex is still snoozing. Stepping into the study, you discover Merriam, who is reading a book on magic. Small lights swirl about her fingertips as she mutters her incantation, and you silently watch her from the doorway.

Sneaking up behind her, you place your hands on her shoulders which causes her to jump. "Sirena! I, I mean, Mary. I'm sorry..."

"Don't be," you say, brushing their hair out of her face. "I was watching you practice your magic."

"I'm getting better," she smiles. "Maybe one day, I could be half as talented as you."

You match her smile and stare into her eyes before leaning down to give her an encouraging kiss for her flattery. She gasps softly as you do; it is a short one and her eyes flutter as you pull away. She looks back up and whispers, "You... You look beautiful this morning."

"As do you. But we'll need to get you dressed up nicely for this evening."

"M-me? Really?"

"Naturally, he's your uncle after all. You and Ben will be my guests... Or, perhaps, I'll just be yours," you laugh. She goes along with it for a moment, then trails off. Her eyes wander off to one side and it seems like she wants to say something, but doesn't.

She changes the subject instead. "So, will I get to wear any of your clothes? Or should I go out and purchase something nice for this evening?"

"You can borrow whatever I won't be wearing tonight," you tell her. "And we'll also go shopping today; I'll take you to the finest merchants."

Merriam smiles and places her hand on yours, then leans over to kiss it. "Thank you, Mary. You're so nice to me."

Leaning down to plant a kiss on her forehead, you whisper, "Always."

Walking down the central staircase, you realize you don't know where Faye is. Fortunately she is not hard to find. She is in the room where you first met her; the one that held the mirror she crawled through. You open the door to find her drawing an intricate rune upon the floor in white chalk, containing many small symbols. A series of books are open nearby, and though it is not your field of study, you know a summoning circle when you see one.

"So, when were you going to tell me about this?"

She doesn't look up and continues to draw, but replies. "Don't jump to conclusions. I have a plan in mind."

"Oh? Care to let me in on it?"

She looks up and sets the chalk aside. "I'm just trying to figure out ways to open a gateway between your world and mine."

"Homesick?"

"Well look at what you've accomplished! This nice tower, boytoys and girls, plenty of nice things. You've got a huge head start on me. I should be in my world, making my own plans, getting my own sex slaves!"

"Don't call them that while they're around," you scold her. "They're companions. The sex is just a bonus."

"And don't get me wrong, I've had my fun. Oh, have I had my fun. But just trying to set up plans for when I get to go home, there's no harm in that, right?"

Kneeling alongside her, careful not to disturb the chalk, you say to her, "That depends on what you are trying to summon."

"Nothing big or too dangerous. I have ideas on extraplaner creatures that might contain more knowledge on parallel dimensions. I don't know how to make another mirror, but there must be some beings out there who do."

"Are you going to double-check your circle before summoning? And triple-check it?"

"Yes, and yes! I promise you, I won't burn your tower down while you're away." She huffs slightly and turns away.

You gently turn her head back towards you, holding her chin in your palm. "Faye. Don't think about our current situation like it is some kind of contest or race. We are of one goal, one purpose. Revenge."

"I know... But still, this is your world. You're the one who gets to reap the immediate benefits."

"Listen to yourself. We've spoken on our differences before, as minute as they may be, but you NEED patience. Every strength I gain here will be at your disposal when we go to your world." She listens closely and nods, understanding what you are saying. You smirk and add in something else in a whisper. "After all, gods help those who help 'themselves'!"

She giggles along with you at your joke. "Alright, Sirena. I'll try to keep that in mind."

You blow her a kiss and wish her luck, then leave her to her work.

You decide to check on Alex. It occurs to you that a growing boy needs his food, and so you assemble a breakfast for him and bring it up to his bedroom. Normally you wouldn't have ever considered waiting on anyone, but this child could be very special to your plans if properly groomed.

Knocking lightly on the door, you find him in a simple nightrobe that is white. His clerical vestments lie nearby, perfectly nearly folded alongside a candle, which he blows out. He turns from his open holy book and smiles up at you as you enter with the breakfast. "Is that for me? Thank you, Mary!" His cherubic features beam brightly in the light of the morning sun as he takes the tray and sits on his bed.

You sit alongside him and cross your legs as you watch him eat. "How were your morning prayers?"

He swallows. "I just finished when you walked in. I guess the gods answered them with you bringing me this delicious meal, huh?" He blushes at his own joke and returns to eating.

You pat him gently on the head and lightly tussle his long blonde hair. "Eat up. You'll need all your strength for when we return to the crypt."

"Is it today?" he asks, mouth half full.

"Don't talk with food in your mouth," you instruct, scolding him almost like a mother would. He immediately returns to chewing and his face takes on an apologetic shape. "No, not today. But we still have it locked up and waiting for us to return. Don't worry, soon. Perhaps tomorrow, or the day after."

"I'm not disappointed," he assures you. "I'm willing to wait. Up until now in my journey I didn't have anyone or anything to help me, other than the gods. Really, I'm just blessed to have a good bed and roof over my head and such wonderful people around me." He looks up at her and flashes another smile. "I feel so blessed, Mary!"

'How adorable,' you think, reaching over to hold his hand. He squeezes yours tightly.

You bring him in for another hug, holding him close to you. Alex blushes as his head rests just above your breasts while they slightly push into him, but he isn't uncomfortable, indicated by him returning the hug. You hug him for a good moment, smothering him in simple warm affection. He closes his eyes and you can't help but smile; you know he is feeling very close and attached to you. As you have only a few times before you gently rock back and forth in a nurturing manner; he seems to like this as well.

'Yes, feel at ease in my arms. You want my approval, my love. No parents of your own, no home, no family... all alone, lost in a big, scary world... I'll give you a home. And you'll love me for it.'

A single tiny kiss is planted on his forehead before you let go. "Enjoy breakfast. Take the rest of the day off, you've been studying too hard."

"But I study in my off time!"

"Well, then do that anyway," you laugh as you close the door behind you. You walk down the stairs and smile. 'He's coming along nicely. He looks up to me, feels protected in our home. Good.'

As you step into the entry hall, you hear the front door opening. Kaylessa walks in with some dead rabbits. "Food for tonight?" he offers.

"I'm afraid not. You feel free to enjoy all you like, but Merriam, Ben and I are going to a social in town at the mayor's office."

Kay shivers. "Oh, count me OUT. I hate parties and fancy social events. They make my skin crawl."

"Really? Why?"

"Okay, 'hate' is a strong word. I suppose I just haven't ever been to one that I've enjoyed very much."

"Have you been to many?"

"No," he admits. "But I went to a ball once, held by some local noble not far south. It was very... I don't know. High society stuff isn't really my thing. Everyone just feels fake."

"The beauty of nobility and its luxuries lies in what we try to make ourselves appear to be in spite of what we all really are. It's almost like a form of escape for the well-to-do. Besides, this isn't a ball. It's just a minor gathering of some local merchants and the mayor's associates."

"Still, I'll stay back here for the night if it's alright with you."

As the elf slips by to head up to his room to tend to his kills, he passes by Merriam on the way up the stairs. They share a look and a blush before continuing in opposite directions. The farmgirl walks up and straightens her dress; she was sparing with what she borrowed, but not overly so. Tasteful, even.

"So, um, are we going to wait for Ben? Or should just the two of us go, and meet up with him later?"

'He must still be putting his armor on,' you think.

Stepping close to Merriam, you brush some hair behind her ears. "What say we have some time, just the two of us, like when we were travelling?"

She bashfully nods. "I'd like that."

You take her by the hand and lead her out the door to your new horse-drawn wagon. Xerro, your officlal go-to minion for any and every task, is sitting at the front with the reigns ready.

"Xerro ready!" he says. "Xerro best cart-kobold there is!"

You and Merriam both giggle as you climb into the back with her. "To Bridge Town," you instruct the kobold, and he snaps on the reigns. Soon enough you're rolling along the road, heading south.

Sitting next to Merriam, you take her hands in yours. "So, how have you been? I feel like we've been distant."

"Fine, truly," she replies. "I know you've been busy, with your magic, and Ben..."

You watch her expression carefully. "Have you been jealous?"

"...A little bit." She shifts in her seat, growing slightly uncomfortable. "Mary, let's just--"

"Talk to me," you urge her. "Tell me your feelings."

"I... That night you came back from the crypt. I saw you and him."

"And?" You remember well that it was your design to have her see you with her brother, and that you once more used the wand of shared sensation upon her. She felt everything you felt.

She blushes the more vulnerable she becomes. The rest of the conversation is now in hushed whispers. "I... That magic you told me about once. The spell you cast to make me feel... like that... I didn't know it was with my b-brother."

You remain very neutral in pose, staring deeply at her eyes, though she still averts her gaze. "How did that make you feel?"

"I don't know. Confused. And then Faye came, and she, well, she took care of me. It's been like that a few nights since."

You follow her change of direction. "How do you feel about Faye?"

"She's like you, so I like her, but she's not quite all the way you. When you and she and I were together, it was like nothing else in my life, except..."

"Except for when I was with your brother, and you felt it." You cup her cheek and turn her head to face you. "Did you like it?"

She is silent for several moments as her breathing grows heavy. "...Yes." She turns her head away again, too embarassed to say anything more.

Though she is silent for the rest of the ride, her mind isn't. You can tell she is thinking a great deal about a great many things. For now that is enough.

We should commission a piece as a "gift" to Ben and Mirriam's uncle so he can put it up in the Mayors office. Subtly reference our ties to him.

>Jewelry
Commissions again, something with jewels that we can enchant with communication spells. Let's talk to the Diviner that was married to that old lady Necromancer about getting it done.

Personalize the jewelry, both so it's not recognizable as communicators or a badge and also as a nice thing for our Companions.

Later on see if we can tie low level Thrall spells into it when we use it, or higher level ones under the guise of "communicating". Maybe we can share "memories" and use it to subtly rewrite our companions.

It's a fairly busy day in Bridge Town. The markets are bustling with activity, with its many merchants and patrons all interacting with one another. The air is filled with the sounds of haggling, merchants advertising their wares and coin bags jingling. It seems business has properly returned to normal; better, in fact.

As you walk through the many tents and stands of the market stalls, Merriam's eyes wander wide-eyed across the merchandise, delighted at the variety of different kinds of fashionable items for sale. More than a few catch your eye as well. As you and she have enough jewelry from your adventuring spoils to share, you decide instead to focus primarily on dresses and shoes for this evening.

You decide to keep things frugal, but fashionable. You purchase no more than fifty gold's worth of matching dresses and shoes for yourself and Merriam; she splits it with you, making it 25 from each. These are still very nice dresses, far prettier than anything Merriam ever expected to wear. As you and she finish up making your purchases from the stand, you hear a commotion from nearby and the sounds of something like firecrackers. Just then, a stray dart flies into the wood of the stand near you, surprising Merriam and nearly making her jump.

That's when a dwarf runs by, his stocky legs pumping as he sprints as hard as he can. The little gnome you met once before, the tinkerer Vilgiziax, runs up with some kind of automatic dart-launcher. He stops, out of breath, and then looks over. He adjusts his goggles and then smiles in recognition. "You two! I remember you! Help me catch that thief and I'll give you a deal!"

Your brow cocks upwards. "You were robbed by a dwarf?"

"I don't want to get into that! Go get him!" he urges.

Sirena rolls her eyes. 'This had better not ruin my new dresses.' She and Merriam both take off after the dwarf, and though they manage to make up for his head start, he quickly vanishes among the throngs of people in the market.

"Damn!" you mutter as Merriam crouches down to look under a table. "How many places could a dwarf hide?"

"You'd be surprised," Merriam says. "They fit surprisingly well into small spaces."

"Is that so..."

>>1140722

Following her unintentional clue, you find a nearby stack of barrels. After carefully inspecting one, you discover that it has something sticking out from under its lid -- a bit of beard. You cause your hand to glow with magic and pop open the top with the other.

"Alright, you! Out of the barrel with your hands up!"

"Aw, dammit lass! Do ye know how bloody hard it was ta git in this thing ta begin with?!"

"You heard me, thief!"

"Arlight, alright! Keep yer voice down!" He pops his head out, his beard sticking over the barrel's side. "Look. I know how this must look. But I was only takin' back what was rightfully mine! That derned gnome swindled me, he did!"

You don't lower your hand, but you do listen, and you also recall that time the gnome attempted to buy your magic coin without being honest about why he wanted it, something you came to realize later on.

The dwarf makes his defense. "He sold me some junk! It broke down, an' he refused to refund me for me coin! So I took back what was mine, I did."

>Give me the money and I'll forget I saw you.

Merriam walks up and looks on from nearby as you ask him, "What exactly did you buy?"

"A beard-shaper! He promised me it would shave, trim, braid, color and scent me beard!"

"And did it?"

"SEE FOR YERSELF!" He reaches up and pulls off his mask, allowing the rest of his beard out. You and Merriam nearly burst out laughing; his mustache spirals outwards in three different directions while the beard itself looks like a cross between a leaf and a star with strange hoops and spirals. "That derned gnome is responsible! He sold me an unreliable product!"

"Buy OR beware!" a voice squeaks. You and Merriam both turn to see the gnome walking up, holding his dart launcher like a rifle. "You neglected to sign forms for insurance AND you didn't accept the receipt! Nor did you purchase the accompanying manual NOR did you consult the manufacturer's warranty!"

"Ya ain't foolin' me with yer fancy devil contracts, ya tinkerin' little sod! I ain't givin' ya me name on any paper!"

"You don't sound like a very good customer," you say to the dwarf. Then you turn to the gnome. "But you don't sound like a very good merchant, either."

"He was in and out in a flash," the gnome insists. "I was VERY specific and laid everything out for him."

"Aye, with yer big complicated words and yer fancy-schmancy contracts!"

"It's not MY fault that you were unwilling to accept additional coverage for additional cost!"

"What in the bloody hells are ye even talkin' about? Ye pay the price for what ye get!"

"And you DID!"

"Enough!" you say, kneeling and placing your hands on their chests. (Well, the barrel for the dwarf, but still.) "I think you could both stand to learn a lesson from this experience. Don't you?"

"Aye. NEVER TRUST A GNOME!"

"And I'd put a big, fat sign on my shop saying, 'NO DWARVES' but that would violate the statutes of the mechant guild that I operate within which has a very strict policy due to its non-discrimination clause, but that doesn't mean I have to LIKE IT!"

"Now then. Mr. Dwarf, if you would please hand over what was taken."

He grumbles and pops his arm out of the barrel holding a small sack of coins before throwing it at the gnome's feet. The gnome scoops it up.

"There. Was that so bad?"

"Gnomes... Pheh! Buncha lousy no-goods..." Higs legs then pop out the bottom of the barrel, allowing him to stand up and walk away.

The gnome straightens his coat and puts the coins in one of his many pockets. "Honestly. The NERVE of some people." He looks up at you and manages a smile. "Thank you, my good lady. As promised, I'll get you a 25% deal on any item of your choice in my store!"

You follow him back to his tent and crouch down to get back inside. Merriam follows. Once more you find yourself in a magnificent emporium of items. As he puts his dart rifle away, you notice that there seem to be more things this time around.

After looking over the wares, you pick out three things you'd like and bring them to the counter: a potions starter kit with instructional guidebook, a distillation kit and water purifier, and a "back massager" that you left here last time.

"I remember it being sixty last time," you tell him, and then you realize he's inflated the cost to the point of forty-percent off the item being the exact same price as before. "Oh, clever. How original."

"Now assuming you want your discount on the larger item and then one of the smaller ones, that comes to two-hundred-and-fifty. What say you?"

You could easily afford it. With your recent plunderings, it isn't truly much. But still, the nerve of this gnome!

You poke him in the chest. "You'd better match the original price on that item, or I'm taking my money elsewhere."

He grows offended. "Fine! Do it, then. You won't find anyone else with better merchandise in this town for what you're looking for! Think you'll find these items at a dress cart or a jewelry stand? Hah!"

Your eyes narrow and you give him a dangerous look. He gulps. "Alright. Fine fine fine! Thirty-six for the massager with the discount."

"And the insurance?'

"With the adjusted price of two-hundred-and-twenty-six, the insurance will bring it up to... two-hundred-and-fifty." He beams a bright grin and you roll your eyes.

'I'm done dealing with this gnome.'

You take out the coins, leaving you 1,831 left. After signing the paperwork in your fake name and taking a copy for yourself, you take Merriam and leave the store, walking out of the small tent and back out into Bridge Town. You carry your purchases back to the cart where Xerro dutifully awaits. You could remain here, return to the tower or something else. You still have half a day until the dinner.

As you and Merriam walk along the streets, you are suddenly ambushed! But not by a hostile enemy. Instead, your eyes are now feasting upon an outright garishly mismatched red and blue outfit as a man with a wide-brimmed and white-plumed hat, with a red feathered scarf and an instrument tucked beneath one arm, as well as an immaculately-sculpted moushtache and beard combo, AND large golden hoop earrings dangling from his ears, steps in front of you. He is pleasant in appearance, despite his wild outfit, with brown hair and soft amber eyes. Around his neck dangles an amulet of luminous crystal, and a rapier is belted at his hip.

"My lady," he says, scooping up your hand and kissing it before you can even so much as react, "I must confess that I am your most ardent admirer."

He kneels before you and produces from his robe, seemingly out of nowhere, a beautiful bouquet of flowers. "For you, my sweet. Freshly plucked this morning with the dew yet upon them. Their beauty pales next to yours, my morning flower of the sun."

You and Merriam both blink, then look at each other, then back to him. "Who are you supposed to be?"

"Ah! My manners, how foolish of me!" He stands up and bows while flourishing his cape out behind him. "I am Walhbo, entertainer, dancer, enjoyer of fine wines and fine women, but none have ever been finer than you." He straightens as his cape falls around his shoulders. "I am soon to be world-famous, my name sung in halls across the land, echoing throughout history!"

"...Why?"

"For I am the greatest poet, bard and composer in the kingdom!" He kneels before you again and produces the flowers. "I beg you, sweet lady, take these flowers from me and you will have my eternal devotion. You inspire me to tears, you make my heart pound in its chest! Never has there been a star like you shining in the night sky! Not even the fair maidens of the fey kingdoms could compare to you, my queen of the wilds!"

You look around; people are beginning to stare. Merriam remains silent, unsure of what to make of all this.

You rip the flowers out of his hand, and, in a stunning move, you drop them to the ground!

He gasps and places his hand over his heart. You look down on him and place your hands on your hips. "Come back when you're actually famous. Let's go, Merriam." You turn her around and walk on.

You hear Walhbo call out at your back, "I will, my lady! I shall compose the finest sonnet, the greatest play in the land! I shall move audiences to tears and to laughter, and to tears from laughter! I shan't give up! If I must move the mountains, the very pillars of the arts, I shall! For you and you alone I would build a ladder to the heavens! I SWEEEEAAAAARRRRR IT!"

"If he follows us, run," you whisper to her as you round the corner. You and she both share a laugh at the outlandish figure as you move on.

As you and Merriam walk back over the bridge that comprises nearly half the town, you spy someone distinct, but not in a bad way like that bard. He is a noble, clearly; he carries himself with excellent posture and has an eloquent manner of speech. He is dressed like a man more for sea than land, and when you look over the side of the bridge and see his ship you know why. It is a merchant vessel, offloading cargo here at Bridge Town, and apparently getting very well-paid. You can see armed guards with cutlasses and rapiers watching over the crates as they are offloaded.

The man himself, perhaps the captain of this fine vessel, which you also see is called the Queen's Avarice, is speaking to the port controller of the town, going down a checklist and apparently noting some discrepencies. "We were set upon on the way up here," he describes. "Goblin swine made off with only a minor amount of our stock. The rest we were able to protect."

"Have you any proof of these claims?" the man grumbles.

The young noble turns around and snaps his gloved hand. A small net is hoisted up from the ship and hung near its main mast -- freshly cut goblin heads.

"I'd show you the blood on my blade, but I keep it clean," the man smiles handsomely. The port official makes a note of the missing supplies and moves off.

Putting on your best smile and ensuring your enchanting ruby is on display between your breasts, you approach the captain and get his attention, which isn't hard to do.

"Hello," you greet him with low eyelids. "I'm Mary."

"I've heard of you," he says, a fact that surprises and potentially unnerves you. He kisses the back of your hand, but in a manner more dignified than the last admirer. He notices. "Surprised? One of the locals mentioned you and your friends, but they didn't describe your beauty."

"I'm hardly the one they see the most of," you reply. "I've helped a local, Ben, become something of a town hero."

"So I've heard. But you're not quite local, are you?" He leans in close. "In fact, based on the way you try to hide your accent, I'd say you're from further down south."

You keep calm and collected, but are nonetheless put at slight unease. This man is far more clever than you'd have thought. "South, a bit. Not far. How far south have you travelled?"

"To the very southernmost portion of the seas," he says, indicating his vessel as you both walk to the side of the bridge to look upon it. "My ship has carried me since I was but a boy."

"Do you get to the capital often?"

"I should. I have an estate there. I'm told it's very lovely," he laughs.

"You never go?"

"Not much reason to until I retire. The sea has me until then."

"Well, you're far north from the sea."

He shrugs. "A job is a job. It pays well." He leans on the stone railing of the bridge and gives you a handsome smirk. "I don't suppose you happen to be attending a gathering tonight at the mayor's office?'

"As a matter of fact, I am."

"Then I am as well," he smiles. "In fact, I shall provide a portion of tonight's dinner, if you would join me for a glass of wine this evening."

"Wait, I didn't get your name!"

"Then perhaps you'll get it tonight!" he calls over his shoulder with a wink.

When he is gone, Merriam steps back up. "He was quite charming. Not at all like the last one."

"Hm? Oh, right, that fool. I think it would do well to become friendly with that captain... He could prove useful."

So, let's see how our rumors have grown, shall we?

>Along the western trade route, which recently had a problem with contaminated grain causing a food crisis that was solved, a new disease has sprung up which seems to solely be targetting farm animals. Farmers are scrambling to find a cure, with local priests and merchants coming up with no easy solutions. This disease is causing many people in the region to take desperate steps to protect their livestock.

>The local wizard who lost his fire elemental and came up with a plan to stop it by summoning a water elemental has been charged with massive property damage after the plan, in horrible failure, resulted in the elementals battling to a stalemate across several farm fields, wrecking property and crops alike. He is currently in the town jail.

>The lawyer who was supposed to represent the drunken monk and the lawyer failed spectacularly. Somehow during the trial, even more damning evidence came up against them, revealing a criminal history for them both. The new partners in crime attempted a daring jailbreak, but their bumbling nature and general incompetency didn't get them very far. They are back in jail again.

>The exterminator was successful in solving the snake problem. Unfortunately, Bridge Town now has a mongoose infestation. The exterminator was fired.

>The local prostitutes have gone on strike. Despite Mayor Jed's attempts to rid the town of degeneracy, it seems the women of the night have formed a guild and are now looking to buy property to open an official brothel.

>A new local merchant is controversial because he is a goblin. He is attempting to sell makeup and beauty products, including a new line of hair dye, but business is not going very well for him due to local pregeduces.

>There has been talk of a local band of mercenaries construction a fortress out in the wilderness. While no one can confirm which group it may be, they are rumored to have some kind of connection to the local coven of hags.

Do we want to act on any of these, or return to the tower?

Upon hearing of this rumor of a blossoming prostitute guild, you find yourself curious. You send Merriam back to the cart and diguise yourself to better infiltrate this group to learn more. A brothel, if actually built and maintained, could very well be a useful source of both income (no pun intended) and influence, as well as the potential beginnings of a spy network.

You slip into your disguise and leave your finery and new dresses behind; it isn't hard to find a change of clothes. Currently, the prostitutes have gathered in a shack near the river, a rather dismal place. You quickly learn that they are in the midst of pooling their resources and seeking investors to help secure more permanent property in which to operate their new business.

So, since one is so high class and the others are not, here's how I imagine it went down: Our dwarf matron, Sanzir, has fallen on hard times. Perhaps she is exiled from her home, perhaps she is a disgraced noble, it is hard to say. She's worked in much, much, much better conditions than this, perhaps even a bigger and more professional brothel that catered to nobles. For one reason or another that she probably doesn't want to talk about, she's ended up here, and has gathered these streetwalkers and trollops under her wing. She is a strong woman, with dignity and poise, despite her current low societal standing. She is determined to get her way back to the top, even if that means she has to piggy-back on the success of others spreading their legs.

What do we make of this situation? How do we want to interract with her, if at all? Reveal ourselves, make a deal, work behind the scenes, etc?

Offer to fund the brothel in exchange for (off-the-books if required) co-ownership. Her girls are our girls. Any information that flows through the brothel goes through us. We'll try to grease the wheels with Jed if necessary: if we can make this a legal brothel, it'll be all the better.

This seems weird and suspicious. Just asking her opinion on general politics should be enough to determine this. And since we're using yet another disguise for this venture, there's no need to bring it up.
If we must elaborate, just tell her that we're interested in knowing about anything political and bounty hunter related.
If that seems too suspicious, we can say that we also like to hunt the occasional bounty for pocket money, so any leads on the competition would be nice.
>>

See if she knows the Dwarf we encountered before.

I feel like we should support the Goblin merchant to spite the Gnome. Spite fuels a lot of my decisions.

Also, the Brothel would be a good customer for the Goblin, and we could display his goods in front of the Noble.

If the Goblin could use the Dwarf from earlier as a front man (without concern because he apparently is crap at business) and the Brothel as advertising by word of mouth to their customers as gifts for their wives, and we could display it by wearing it to high society events - or better yet, dressing up Mirriam and Faye so we stay in the background - then we could make a serious market penetration and make a bunch of money while tying the brothel and the business closer to us.

Also, we could make ins with setting up a disaffected minority coalition, goblins and dwarves (and maybe later Kobolds!)
>>
>>1142596
Forgot to add, the Brothel could be a good way for recruiting Girls for Vinny the Vampire.

Have a noble who falls in love with a whore "whisk her away to a life of leisure as his personal mistress".

How romantic.
>>
>>1142598
of course women of that profession go missing all time they'll hardly be missed
>>
>>1142608
Not only that, but if girls seem to go on to "bigger and better things" then it could gain in both popularity and reputation as a "reform house for wayward women" that runs as a high class place "renting virtue instead of selling it". Especially if we can get the Paladin in on it.

Class it up, give it some good quality "exclusive" make-up as a product, portray it as a net gain to both the women AND the community.

We could even get Vinny to send a woman back once in a while to visit family and talk about how great her life is.

Heck, maybe we could even educate them to do numbers and such, and present them as "secretaries plus for discerning gentleman of leisure" or something.

And then charge Vinny MORE, because they're useful in more ways than just blood banks.

Upon following the dwarf woman into town, you corner her in an alleyway. Almost immediately the woman goes for a knife, but you raise your hand. "Hold. I am not here to harm you."

"I've been told that one before," she says, her accent notably central region for a dwarf. "Who are you, then?"

"A friend, and a potential business partner." You lower your hood, revealing your disguised face. "I'm interested in your idea of a brothel, and I can get the mayor off your back. Interested?"

Still keeping a hand on the knife around her thigh, she slowly nods. "Might be that I am. Speak."

"Like I said, I can keep the mayor off your back. I can also help you out with investments, perhaps even securing a nice property for our business. Girls, too. And the ones who look a little rough or act up, I can fix them, too."

The dwarf narrows her eyes. "Sounds a bit too good to be true. You some kind of mage?"

"I'm more than a mage. I'm interested in being a business partner, too. But I also like my privacy, and I'll respect yours as well. I can tell there's a reason you're in this town, just like there's a reason I'm in this town. We don't need to worry too much about each other's reasons so long as we both uphold our ends of the deal."

She seems to be considering it. "And what sort of deal are we making?"

"We split the profits from the brothel, and we use it to gather secrets, which can be more valuable than gold. I'm sure you know that, though."

"I do." She takes her hand off the dagger. "Let's say that I'm interested in your deal... Where do you begin?"

Deciding to approach this goblin you've heard about, you find his ramshackle stand near the edge of the market. He is sleeping, with his face propped up by his arm and snoring. Approaching his stand, you knock on it and startle him awake. "What? Huh? What's this all about, eh? Can't a guy--"

He looks up and immediately focuses on your breasts. "OH! A CUSTOMER!" He sits up and straightens his suit and tie. He is dressed to look like a business man, or perhaps more like a parody of one. "Welcome, welcome! No doubt my fine wares caught your eye!" The wares in particular are stacked behind him on a tiny shelf. Hair dyes of various colors, makeup kits, small mirrors and other things one would use to pretty themselves up. Nothing looks too out of the ordinary.

"You seem to have plenty of stock," you notice.

"Oh yes, yes indeed! Plenty of fine stock! Business has been... Well, we needn't worry about that."

"Do they work?"

"Oh yes indeed!" he says again. "My products are top-of-the-line, satisfaction guaranteed! Only the highest quality materials for the finest quality customers. Might I say, my lady, that you are particularly lovely."

"Why thank you."

"And you'd look even lovelier with some of my product! I'll even throw in a sample, a first customer bonus. What do you say?"

You part with five gold coins and leave with a small makeup kit, as well as a promise to tell your associates and spread the word. He waves you goodbye as you return to the cart and hand it to Merriam.

"What is this?" she asks, opening it.

"A gift."

"Aww, thank you Mary!" She hugs you and looks through the materials as you and she get on the cart and head to the tower. Once there, you both head inside to put on your new dresses, shoes and get ready for tonight.

Up in your room, you find Ben, fully armored and apparently waiting. "It took you this long to get dressed?" you joke.

"Just waiting for you to come back," he says with a smile. He looks quite dashing in his new elven chainmail underneath the plate armor. "We're leaving soon to see uncle?"

"Yes. I took Merriam out shopping, and picked up a few things for myself." You set them down on the bed and prepare to get dressed. "Aren't you going to give a lady her privacy, Ben? It's rude to stare."

He smirks. "I think we're beyond that kind of modesty, don't you?"

You look at him over your shoulder with a low glare. "Ben. Snark does not agree with a gentleman. Now turn around and respect a lady's wishes."

His smile slowly shrinks, and after a moment, he nods. He gets off the bed and approaches the window to look outside as you get changed. "I didn't, ahem, mean to offend."

You speak to him as you slip into your new dress. "I know. But you've got a long ways to go before you are a true gentleman, or a knight. Don't mistake our comfortable relationship to mean that you can be rude to me."

"I won't, Mary."

"Good. I enjoy our time together, I would hate to have to restrict you to sleeping in another room." You study his posture carefully. While it is not your intention to emasculate him, it is important that not think himself above respecting your words and wishes. You are, after all, the one responsible for uplifting him from his life as a county peasant to an aspiring hero, and he would do well to remember that.

'Still, he's only acting in accordance to his desires. So am I.'

You approach him from behind and turn him around to kiss him. He holds you in his arms for a moment before you slip away and return to your small jewelry box. Opening it up, you take out some things for him to wear. "This belt will look nice on you," you tell him, handing him the leather belt with the platinum buckle. You also give him the sable talisman to give his torso some character; the small furred necklace will do nicely in this regard.

"That dress looks beautiful on you," he says, going in for another kiss. You slip away and playfully lead him downstairs by the hand.

"If we tarry we'll be late!" you remind him. "There'll be time for that later."

Soon, you, he and Merriam are sitting on the cart and heading to Bridge Town. Ben chats enthusiastically about getting to see his uncle, which he hasn't done in a few days. Merriam avoids direct eye contact with her brother, though he doesn't seem to notice. But you do.

Once in town, you pay Xerro his customary coin and wait outside while you send the siblings on ahead. They enter the mayor's office while you observe from a hidden viewpoint; you want to see who else shows up. A few of the local merchants arrive in carts of their own, but no one you recognize. At least until the captain you met earlier shows up, with a large fish on a massive platter.

'That must be his contribution to tonight's meal,' you think to yourself.

Some local landowners attend, as well as the captain of the guard for the region, but the two who stand out the most to you are a pair of elves. They are both tall and thin, and judging from their matching clothing they must be either married or siblings. Given how similar they both look, in skin, hair and eyes, you'd guess it to be the latter. The elven duo moves to enter the office and are immediately given entry, so they must be of some local import, but you haven't heard of them or seen them until now.

When you enter, you find the social well underway. Mayor Jed and his partner, Lucia Rose, are dressed pleasantly and are chatting with some of the local merchants. Ben is speaking with the guard captain, and Merriam is keeping to herself, much like the two elves are in the corner of the room. Someone who is not keeping to himself, however, is the captain of the ship, who is regaling several of the minor nobles and landowners with a tale from his time on the seas down south.

Walking over to Merriam, you take her by the arm to go speak to Jed and Lucia. They are in good spirits tonight and welcome you warmly; after all, you are responsible just as much as Ben for helping defeat that accursed devil and helping Jed win the election. You chat with them about some local things around Bridge Town that have been going on for the past week or so.

Jed explains that production is up. Brutus' help on the Cutter Farm has made quite a difference, allowing Jed to stay in town to help smooth the transition from previous mayor to his new administration. He has also been in talks with Samson, the new head of the Digger Mine, and he has managed to secure some locals to work in it and plans to bring it up to a respectable standard. You smile at this news; that means the money will start coming in soon thanks to your deal with him.

Politically and economically, Bridge Town is stable and good. Things are running smoothly and it is the hope of Jed and Lucia that things will continue to do so. The have plans to begin building a new schoolhouse, along with a new chapel (but one that isn't quite as big as the one Amanda would have built). Jed plans to add more permanent structures to the village and clean up some of the "tent city" that dominates the market section. While Jed has no problem with merchants personally, too many of them live out of caravans and wagons, meaning he cannot charge them full taxes. The situation isn't exactly a problem, just more of a minor nuisance.

You mention to Jed that, later on, you have a matter you'd like to discuss with him, one that isn't suited for the company of a social gathering.

Pointing out the elves, you ask about their identities. "They're from up north, but you could have guessed that at their ears, eh? They haven't been in town for very long."

Lucia then adds, "I believe their names are Seturion and Sanuria. They're supposed to be merchants themselves, and quite rich from it. I don't exactly know why they decided to come, but if they were passing through on their way south it would make sense."

"They both have royal signet rings," Jed explains. "Once I saw those, I couldn't say no."

Your eyes dance over to their elven fingers and you see two bright blue rings on their hands, used to help identify those with a connection to the capital, perhaps through a mercantile interest or family. They certainly seem like they could be nobles, though they are still keeping to themselves and speak in hushed tones.

"And the captain?" you ask, pointing him out.

Almost as if sensing that he is suddenly the topic of conversation, the man himself approaches. "Mayor, it is good to meet you." He shakes Jed's hand with a firm grip. "Madame," he says to Lucia, kissing her hand. "And, of course, my fair lady Mary." He takes your hand and winks at you before kissing your knuckles. "Allow me to properly introduce myself, please. I am Captain Jean Lamont Eristan of the Queen's Avarice, and I am happy that my brief time in port here has allowed me to attend this gathering. Already I have met several of the local merchants that my boatswain will be meeting with soon."

"Bridge Town is happy to have one from so far away," Jed smiles. "I understand that you don't often come this far north."

"Truth be told, good mayor, this is the first time I have been this far north, and with such lovely sights to see I am sore that I did not venture this far sooner." He smiles at you in particular.

That's when Ben walks up. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything."

Captain Eristan takes the young man by the hand. "No, not at all. My, what a fine grip. More used to holding an axe than a sword, I think."

Ben blinks. "I've only recently started."

"We all have to start somewhere, no?" He laughs and pats Ben just a bit too hard on the shoulder, which seems to set the young man off slightly. Ben is about to reply when Jean looks at Jed and asks, "Tell me mayor, when do we eat?"

A small bell rings. "Right now," Jed replies.

You move with the others into the dining hall and everyone sits. You find yourself alongside Merriam, who is next to Ben, and immediately on your left sit the two elves, specifically the sister sits next to you. She looks at you with piercing blue eyes. "Hello."

"Hello," you reply courteously. "I am Mary."

"Mm."

She turns to her plate and proceeds to ignore you. You cannot help but be slightly soured by this, but your attention is brought instead to the food that is wheeled out. Jed mentions that the meal was provided for by one of the merchants, and of course the large fish is from Captain Eristan. Wine is brought out and the meal commences after a brief moment of silent prayer as everyone prays to their respective deities in their own small ways in a simple yet traditional custom.

The meal is served. The merchants laugh and exchange jokes as Ben serves his uncle some of the delicious-looking meat. Merriam holds your hand under the table as she tries some wine, finding the taste agreeable.

As the meal proceeds, the conversation flows from one thing to another. You listen carefully for anything relevant to you as Sirena, but little comes up. No news from the capital finds its way to this dinner table, so for now you are merely content to sit and eat the rather exceptionally prepared food.

Occasionally, Captain Eristan gives you a nod or a wink, each just as charming as the last. Sitting as close as you are to Ben, you know that he notices this as well, and grows slightly frustrated by it.

As Captain Eristan makes another joke, you lean over behind Merriam and whisper to Ben, "Calm yourself. Embarrassing yourself won't accomplish anything."

He meets your gaze and you give him a certain look, similar to the one you gave him earlier. As before, he seems to reel inwardly somewhat and accept your words, calming down and focusing on enjoying his meal. Content that he won't act up, you are free to engage the charming seafarer across the table with light conversation.

The elves alongside you, however, prove rather poor conversationalists, engaging only briefly and always to disengage immedaitely afterwards. Their prescence is not exactly unnerving, but they aren't very charming as far as nobles go. You find the captain to be a far better conversationalist.

"The Queen's Avarice is a wonderful ship. Built originally in the southern seas along the great desert kingdoms there, it was taken by the royal navy's privateers, where it was purchased by my family before I was born. A wonderful history to the vessel; I would love to give you a personal tour sometime."

Merriam places a hand on Ben's leg, keeping him from overreacting. You simply smile at the captain and tell him, "I would love just as much to take you up on that offer one day, captain."

A new wine is served then, a dark red one with a smokeyness to it. It is poured from a tiny barrel into everyone's glasses, and suddenly the elf brother Seturion stands up. "I realize my sister and I have been quiet this evening. It is our hope that you will not mistake our silence as rudeness. Too often we find ourselves choked by the trappings of the company we tend to keep and do not often enjoy the finer company of people such as yourselves, and so we are delighted to present to you this wine as a gift of our good will." He raises his glass in a toast, and everyone follows.

You are about to do the same when the sister puts her hand on yours, preventing you from doing so. You meet her gaze as her eyes bore into your own and there is a sudden coolness about them that chills you.

There is a profound effect on everyone who drank, except the two elves. Within moments, their eyes grow heavy and their heads lull forward, as though entranced into heavy sleep. Merriam alongside you nearly falls forward into her soup, and Ben begins his tell-tale snoring indicating the depth of his slumber.

Both elves look at you, their eyes cold and, one could say, murderous.

You stand up in a moment, narrowly dodging a long, prehensile tail that was about to wrap around your throat, which would have robbed you of your spellcasting ability. Both elves stand up and face you as you hold up your hands threateningly. You watch the devilish tail of the female elf curl back behidn her and vanish under the dress.

"Reveal yourselves!" you demand.

They both smile and are consumed by flames, the flash of which surprises you. When you lower your hands to see again, there stands Angello... and his twin. Your nostrils are suddenly filled with the scent of brimstone and sulfur.

"Funny how you always run into folks you know at things like these, ain't it?" he asks, taking out a cigar and lighting it with his thumb.

"This is the one?" his sister asks, cocking a brow and putting a hand on her hip. She speaks with the same thick accent as her brother. "Honestly, I was expectin' more impressive."

"There's two of them," he explains. "But this one's the real brains. Had me goin' for a good minute back there, little missy. You and your double. But I know your game now and I must say I was a sucker for a pretty face. Two pretty faces, that is."

Your eyes are wide and your face is guarded. "You're supposed to be dead."

"Funny thing, that," he says as he puffs on his cigar. "Paladins, terribly predictable. They never do check to see if they took you out or a body double."

"Clever. Are you going to introduce me to your sister?"

"My, our manners are terrible this evening. This is--"

The female devil cuts him off and strides forward. "I am Angella DeVille."

"Of course you are," you mutter.

"I don't care for you much."

"Feeling's mutual."

"Maybe we could hash it out," she says, her eyes bursting into flames threateningly as her forked tongue hisses at you.

Angello walks around the table of unconscious men. "Now, now, let's not get too hasty here. I still smell... opportunity in the air. I'm sure that little miss runaway here would like to avoid things getting a bit too heated. Sis, please."

Angella returns to normal, or normal for herself.

Angello looks up. "No words? That's fine, I'll do the talkin'. Honestly, I ain't too sore about the election. Really. I'm not." He smiles and puffs on his cigar. "Opportunity comes and goes, and I've been on the raw end of a few deals myself."

"More than a few," Angella says.

You speak up. "What do you want?"

"Not now, sis." He straightens his coat. "We came to drop off a gift for you."

Your eyes narrow. "...What?" Angella continues to stare intently at you, watching your every movement.

"And I ain't talkin' some kinda ironic gift, like one that ain't a gift at all. A real gift. Just somethin' to consider us even."

"If memory serves, my associate made a deal without my consent and I did what I had to do to get out of it, and that involved betraying you. So pardon me if I don't think a gift from you would be welcome and make us 'even' very much."

Angello chuckles darkly. "You got a lot to learn about us, kid. I'll admit that I was a sucker, and you got one over on me. But if we meet again don't expect me to play by the same rules."

He takes out something from his jacket -- a book. He slides it across the table, allowing you to look at it. It is bound in thick leather and seems almost to be a spellbook.

"I thought you'd like it," he smiles. "Now we're off. Don't worry about these ones, they'll wake up as soon as we're gone. A bit confused but none the wiser."

You look at him in his yellow eyes. "Why are you doing this?"

His smile widens. "Like I said: lots to learn." He snaps his fingers and is gone in a spout of flames.

His sister, however, remains. Her intense stare is broken only by her warning: "Watch yourself. He might not act like it, but you could have killed my brother. Next time you might not get off so easily."

She then snaps her fingers before you can reply. When she disappears in a similar burst of fiery magic, leaving only the faint scent of brimstone behind, everyone around the table begins to slowly wake up.

You hide the book and sit back down. Everyone is slightly confused, as though they just woke up from a dream.

"Where'd those elves go?" Jed asks.

"They made a... dramatic exit," you explain. "Strange creatures, those 'elves'..."

>How to convince Jed
I agree, we should definitely say something about how, ultimately, these women have the right to choose to use their bodies if that's their preferred skill. Better for them to be able to do it safely, under the protection of the law and at their discretion, than in secret where they can't be given the same protection as any other working citizen. Hell, they could even form a guild.
>>
>>1144705
>>1144715
The main angle should be that there's no reason a brothel can't be treated as a legitimate business. It fills a niche people will inevitably find, especially in a place as multi-cultural as Bridge Town, and being a business, you can get taxes from it and a healthy income for the city. Make sure to impress that the girls are going to ply their trade whether Jed likes it or not. He may as well make it official and make money off them in the process.

As the dinner comes to a slightly awkward end, everyone packs up to leave, mostly confused and mumbling. Amidst this confusion, you manage to take Jed into another room and approach the subject of the brothel.

Much to your own confusion, at least initially, Jed appears to be in a more suggestable state, perhaps due to the wine. When you press him on the matter, having prepared a few arguments about how prostitution can't be avoided and is at best controlled, his current pliable state finds him agreeing with you. You don't even need to cast a single spell and he agrees with you whole-heartedly.

"So, do you think a brothel would be a good idea?"

"I don't like it... But I could allow it."

"If they paid their taxes and helped get the girls to a better position, yes?"

He nods. "Yeah... Yeah, that sounds good. Almost like community service."

You smile. "Of course, serving the community. That's the job itself, isn't it?" You fold your arms. "So, you'll allow them to purchase a good property, allow them to run like a legitimate business, and they'll pay their taxes. After all, there's no reason you shouldn't profit from what people are invariably going to do regardless of your control, right?"

"Right... I never thought about it this way."

"All of this will be in the strictest confidence, you understand. All off the books, my involvement a secret. It's a matter of trust. You trust me, right?"

"Yeah... Yeah, of course I do."

"Good. It's a deal, mayor."

You find yourself slightly curious to see if the others are currently in this strange state as well. Stepping back out into the office, you look around but don't see any sign of Ben or Merriam. You ask one of the people who served the dinner, and he says he saw them go into one of the back rooms.

Suspicious, you walk up to a door that is out of sight from everyone else and listen closely, hearing a strange noise behind it. You push it open just slightly and the sight beyond makes you gasp. Though the room is dark, you see their silhouette in the window.

Ben is holding Merriam in his arms, her hands are upon his chest, and their heads are tilted perfectly for their lips to smash against each other, which they are. They seem without a care as the siblings kiss, her reaching up to his neck and feeling it. One of his hands finds its way into her hair to hold the back of her head as the kiss deepens.

'I can't believe they actually did it without me pushing them,' you think with a wicked grin. 'Well, I was subtly pushing... but still!'

It must be the wine, you reason. One of them said something, or did something, and now this is happening. You bite your lip and push the door slightly -- causing it to squeak at the hinges.

Merriam immediately breaks the kiss and parts from her brother, stepping into a beam of light to look at you. Her face is flushed red and she averts her gaze. "Merry?" Ben says, confused.

She apologizes in a hushed tone and rushes past you, clearly just as confused as he.

Taking him by the hand, you lead him outside to the cart. Merriam is there, holding herself and looking uncertain. You grab both and sit them down on either side of you. Business can wait until tomorrow. You look at the kobold and say, "Xerro, drive. And whistle a tune to yourself."

He does just that, and an awkward ride home commences. Merriam keeps looking in the opposite direction and Ben seems to be trying to work things out on his end. They both fidget in place, with her adjusting her dress while he straightens his armor. You look at one and then the other, and then ask, "So, is anyone going to tell me what that was about?"

Both mumble incoherencies. You look at Merriam and lean in close. "You kissed him, didn't you?" She blushes and nods. "Why?"

"Because of what I saw and what I felt," she whispers. "I just... wanted to see."

You wait until the carriage reaches the tower, and send Xerro inside. You pull both Ben and Merriam off into the nearby woods, out of sight. There, you face both of them.

"Alright, let's start being more honest," you say to them. "You both know what I do to the other."

Merriam nods, having seen it, but Ben is slightly more hesitant. "I mean, I know some... stuff... goes on, but..."

"Oh, come now Ben. Don't be blind. You know exactly what 'stuff' goes on." You walk over to Merriam and take her face in your hands, kissing her. She is resistant for only a moment, not wanting to do this in front of her brother, but your domineering nature overrides it and she gives in. Parting from her, you then look at Ben and his slightly dumbfounded face before wiping that look off of it with a kiss for him.

You step back. "Now, you two. Go on."

They slowly look up to stare at each other's eyes. You smile as you see the last remnants of their unwillingness to cross this line slowly bleed away. Merriam swallows and reaches up to take Ben's hand, and he squeezes hers.

"Merry?" he says in a low voice as they step nearer.

"Go on," you encourage them, feeling hot just from the sight of his taboo scene.

"Ben, I..." She shakes her head. "I can't. I..." She looks up one final time before leaning up to kiss him. From there the floodgates open and they both embrace tightly, kissing once more. You watch the brother hold her close against his armored chest as she desperately yearns for his affection, which he readily provides. Their reactions change from one of hesitance to one of acceptance, perhaps riding the same thrill that you are.

You lick your lips. 'With this barrier between them broken, I'm one step closer to complete control.'

That's when you hear a twig snap on the ground behind you. At first you think it must be Kaylessa and you prepare an explanation, but when you turn around you see only two things: a hulking man and the axe in his hands!

You drop back immediately as he swings. The head of the axe becomes buried in the tree you were next to as Ben and Merriam split apart.

"It's the axe killer!" he shouts, moving to draw his sword. Merriam goes to grab your arm and pull you away as he reaches down for you with his other hand.

The axe murderer yanks his weapon of choice out of the tree and lets out a grunt, then charges!

You grit your teeth and put your hands together. "Oh, fuck off! WE WERE HAVING A MOMENT!" You enact a forceful push and blast the man backwards, giving Ben the time he needs to draw his sword. 'All this careful planning, ruined by some murder-hobo! I swear I'll kill him!'

Ben charges up and swings his sword down on the man. He brings up his axe to block it, the sword chopping into the wooden handle. His foot comes up and he kicks Ben back, but the youth stays on his feet. Merriam stays alongside you, but then breaks away to get the others in the tower.

>>1145026

You lift up your hand and blast the man in the face with an arcane bolt. For a split second, the light of the magic illuminates his monstrous face. He is human, but horribly mishapen and ugly. You succeed in hitting him in the face, though, causing him to let out a cry and giving Ben an opening to slice him across the upper arm! The young fighter holds his sword in both hands and swings it again, this time slicing the man on the opposite shoulder! The axe killer's blood falls upon the grass.

>>1145033

Ben tries to attack again, but the killer blocks his sword with the axe. He brings up a boot and kicks Ben up against a tree. You try to cast another arcane bolt but fumble on the word, which allows the axe man to chop down at Ben -- who thankfully ducks, causing his axe to become stuck in the tree again.

>>1145039

Running up to the man and preparing a curse, you touch him and bestow upon him a curse of weakened strength. The axe killer lets out a howl and knocks you down to the ground, but can no longer pull his axe out of the tree with his reduced power. Ben takes out a dagger and stabs him in the leg, making him cry out and run off into the forest at a high sprint despite his wound, taking the dagger with him.

Ben picks himself up and watches the man run, then looks at his axe before pulling it out of the tree. Merriam runs out of the tower with Kaylessa, Alex and Faye, all of whom are confused at the sight. You help Ben back to the group and you all head into the tower, knowing that the axe killer is still out there...

So, after a night of playing with ourselves with your new massager, which works wonderfully (that resonance crystal inside the golden shell can REALLY vibrate!), you go to sleep. In the very early morning, before anyone else has woken up, you go and check on the siblings who spent the evening in the master bedroom. You discover them in bed with one another, but their state of clothing indicates that nothing happened. Ben snores away as you stir Merriam to being awake.

"So? What happened?"

She looks away. "We just... kissed. A lot."

"And?"

"And... I'm so confused," she says, holding herself. "I don't understand it Mary. I never had these kinds of feelings for my brother before."

"Do you not like them?"

"I don't know! It just all seems so... strange. Brothers and sisters don't do these kinds of things..."

"Not normally," you whisper, sitting next to her and putting an arm around her shoulder. "But we're not exactly normal, are we?"

"No, I suppose not. But still, I never imagined I would be doing these kinds of things, and now..."

"You remember what we talked about yesterday? All that really matters is if you like it or not. And do you?"

"Yes," she admits. "It makes me feel unlike anything I've ever felt before."

"That's why you kissed him last night. Because you wanted to. That's all the reason we ever need."

She nods. You know she trusts you completely, and so doesn't object when you turn her to face her brother. "Why didn't you do anything more with him last night?"

"I don't know," she whispers. "I wanted to, I think, but..."

"But you just needed a little more of a push," you reply, slowly pulling the covers down from Ben's sleeping form. You study Merriam's eyes as she looks at his chest and muscles; he's wearing no shirt, but a pair of loose pants, which barely hide the fact that he's got morning wood. Merriam gasps softly as you run your hands up her arms and whisper in her ear, "Go on. Touch him."

She reaches, but retracts her hand. "I don't know where to begin," she says, embarassed.

"Well then, I'll start," you say, crawling up next to him in bed. Making sure that Merriam is watching, you begin your work and slip off his pants. You're not the biggest fan of going down on another, but given the circumstances the idea excites you instead. You even part your hair off to the right side so as to allow her to watch. As you go down on him, she keeps her eyes glued on the sight, which similarly excites her. You make a point to show her some things without speaking, using your hands and mouth to educate through action.

He awakens soon afterwards, with a moan, surprised and at initial unease like she was but he surrenders to the pleasure like you knew he would. With your eyes, you encourage her to near her brother, and he looks at her in a way he never has. He pulls her in for a kiss and she moans against his mouth, placing both hands on his chest, allowing you to grab one and bring it down to place it at his base. Her fingers curl around him as she shivers into the kiss. You smile as she follows your earlier motions and begins to pump.

Alright, we'll hang back and watch as Ben and Merriam cross that line and never look back.

I'd like to take a moment to comment on the lewdbins; I am keeping track of how many I have yet to write, and they will eventually be written. I just have a few projects I like to spread myself around. If you check the bin, I recently added the first selfcest scene with Faye.

http://pastebin.com/u/Damashi

For the basis of the bin for this scene, Sirena will just lounge nearby, occasionally comment and enjoy herself as Ben and Merriam go to plow town.

As for our hard work in getting Ben and Merriam to this state, I think a new spell is justified. After all, we learned magical kiss by just kissing Ben, so why not? Let's apply our lesson learned from the sibling lovers and get a spell along those lines, one that helped break down their barriers and give into baser instincts.

>New Spell: Thralldom
>Lewd Suggestion: Much like the suggestion spell, you cast this spell upon a target with a sexually-suggestive theme or idea and they'll immediately start considering it. The temptation they feel to act out on this sudden suggestion comes to form desire, unless they are true of heart to another or of particularly strong will. If the suggestion is not in line with their tastes, or concerns a fetish they do not have, or would result in pain (unless they like that), the easier it is to resist.

You reflect on this power as you watch them go at it. Sex has been a particularly useful tool, both for you and for others, bringing them under your fold. But your head feels bloated and last night, when you miscast the arcane bolt, you felt slightly dizzy.

You know the reason why; too many spells in your mind, even one as gifted as yours. Trying to keep track of them is difficult to a point, and you've very nearly hit it. Even the spectacle of them going at it isn't enough to fully take your mind from this concern.

There are ways around this, of course. You can bind with certain items, casting implements, and imbue them with your magic. If they are already magic, you can simply realign their magic aura to match your own. Wands, staffs, rings, orbs, rods, arcane symbols, necklaces; all of these things and more can store spells and allow you to cast through them. This is related to the school of enchantment, which you know very little of. Finding a teacher would be useful, or a spellbook that has related material. How simple it would be to simply cast arcane bolt from a ring, or a wand!

The alternative, of course, is to start recording your knowledge in a book. Every good mage has to have a book, it's just good sense. Having it on hand for easy reference helps, and one can study it and reinforce the spells within it to more permanently remember them.

As Ben thrusts and Merriam screams in pleasure, you consider what you will do about this situation.

So, while there is support for some of the other options, let's focus on the book first, as the others will need to be studied more in-depth.

What kind of book do we want to have? Bear in mind that our spells can be transferred to other books later if we so choose.

>>
>>1146559

I wouldn't see why not, but the longer it takes to decipher our own stuff the harder it may be if the situation is pressing.

Here's the ideal situation:

When we know what we need, we look up a spell and cast it.

If we're going into a potentially bad situation, or planning something, and we KNOW we'll need certain spells, we'll want to read them over and refresh ourselves ahead of time. A kind of 24-hour buffer time, perhaps.

But in the heat of the moment, if we need to remember a spell RIGHT now, it helps to be able to just whip out the book and reference it.

Or have the spell cast through something else, which also takes time to prepare.

We've been playing rather fast and loose with our magic, but we're collecting a lot of knowledge. Sirena is smart, but doesn't have an absolutely perfect flawless memory, and so needs a tool to help her. Minions/familiars can also help.

There's a LOT of ways to get around the spell brain limit, is what I'm getting at. It's just a matter of doing the work and preparing.

I think that, while obviously that would be great, it's just a very rare situation where we'd not have prepared ahead of time and so its better to keep things coded from say... having alex see that we have a lot of crazy necro spells, or fucking faye secretly getting into our thralldom section. I'd love a familiar eventually though, that'd be great

With Ben and Merriam sleeping in each other's arms, you slip downstairs into the small library. The Redford family kept very few books, only in a small room in the keep. You peruse the section, looking for anything that catches your eye, when you find a nice-looking book with a lock. There is a key at the end of a page keeper, which you tear off. You open the book and flip through its pages, finding it blank.

A perfect choice for your new spellbook. You sit down at a table and begin to plan it out: the format, the style, the order. Your mind begins to think that you could go even further than a lock; a code, perhaps. You could learn illusionary spells to mask the pages. Perhaps ink which only shows up under certain circumstances?

If this is to be your primary spellbook, you can do whatever you'd like.

Alex is asleep, and so you ruffle his hair lightly and give him a kiss on the forehead before leaving his room. You search around for Kaylessa and Faye. You don't find them in either of their rooms, and so you search the keep. Opening up the back ladder room, you find that she has him pinned up against the wall, with him facing the wall and her holding her chest to his back as her hands are busy with something in the front. Their backs are to you, and you clear your throat to get their attention.

"Oh, hello," Faye smiles. "Don't mind us. Just teaching this naughty little elf a lesson." She looks back and bites down on one of his ears, causing him to let out a pained, yet pleasured cry. "Yes, you like this, don't you? You like your punishment?"

He gasps as she speeds up, her hands moving faster and faster as she squeezes and keeps him pushed up against the wall.

With a smile, you take out the massager and place it on the nearby table within her reach. You give her a wink and leave the room as she picks it up and smiles wickedly. "Oh, Kaa-aaayyyy~..."

As you leave the tower, you think you hear a loud yelp from below.

Bridge Town is quiet this morning. You give Xerro a coin for taking you into town and walk to the home of Old Man Grey, the diviner. You knock on his door and you hear a shout from within, something along the lines of, "WHAT?!"

You push open the door and walk inside to find Old Man Grey in his chair. He looks up at you and wrinkles his bushy mustache. "Hm? What now?"

"I have something for you, old man." You take out the book that Angello gave you. "I need to know if it is cursed."

He motions for you to come closer. Setting aside some papers, he takes the book and inspects it. "Ahh... It has been a while since I have seen a copy of this tome."

"What is it?"

"The Malevolent Articles of Senesil the Sinister; it's the revised edition, too! With the appendix and the foreword written by Gunuhu the Bloody-Fingered and edited by Ukal the Wicked. This is a nice book!"

You blink a few times. "Are those names supposed to mean anything?"

"Hmpf. You children and not knowing your history. Those are wizards of old!"

"They don't sound very nice. In fact, they sound like devils."

"Wizards come in all shapes and sizes and inferal dominions, child. Bah!" He opens the book and you almost move to stop him as he flips through the pages, brazenly looking them over without a care. "This is in fine condition. I'd be willing to purchase this from you, you know."

"Just tell me if it's cursed."

"Only cursed with Ukal's editing skills," he chuckles in fond remembrance. "I swear, the damned fool doesn't know the difference between a consonant and a conjunction." He slams the book closed. "No curse here."

You cock a brow. "Did you even REALLY check? You didn't cast any spells!"

He throws the book back at you and you catch it. You seem to have offended him. "You think I need to cast spells like you? What am I, an amateur? If I say it isn't cursed, it isn't!"

"Fine." You sit down in the opposite chair. "Tell me more about these authors, then."

He settles back and looks up, recalling things from his memory. "Senesil the Sinister was a warlock. He made pacts with devils, demons, eldritch things... Anything he could to give him more power."

"And in the end, it consumed him?"

"Oh, do you know the end of this story? No? Well shaddup! In the end it is said that he used their power to become a being more powerful than any of those he served and brought them under his heel. It was only their combined power that eventually destroyed him, but in his academic days he was a very good author."

He strokes his beard as he thinks about the next two. "Gunuhu the Bloody-Fingered is a bit notorious among several circles of fiendish works. He was a man who wrote, and only wrote. He read too, often while he was writing. He wrote and wrote and wrote until his fingers bled."

"Was any of it good?"

"Nah. The real tragedy is that he spent his life writing mediocre works that ended up being countless instead of a few very good ones, thus ensuring that he would only be remembered as a curiosity. Ukal the Wicked, a rather brooding man, was an academic. You know, I once met an apprentice to a mage whose brother studied in the same class as him. Not in the same year or even the same decade, but still."

"...Great?"

"Anyway, Ukal often helped edit, update and ammend various tomes of sorcerous power, at least up until he vanished while exploring other planes of existence, but specifically while he was in the Woodlands of Massive, Terrible, Spirit-Consuming Scorpions."

"Don't you mean spiders?"

"Well, they're SOME kind of arachnids! Does it matter?"

You look over the book in your hands. "So, what will it do for me? Will it teach me anything?"

He nods. "For one, it's got spells. Some of Senesil's personal favorites, from a few different schools. You'll learn a thing or two about the abyssal and the infernal regions of existence, and if you study it well, it'll show you how to read the language of the devils."

"Fascinating..."

"So, where'd you get it, anyway?"

"I found it in a dungeon."

Well, that did it. He sits back and lapses into prattling. "Ah, dungeons... Did I ever tell you about the time we ventured into the Dreaded Catacombs of Vituahhzi the Never-Born? Years ago, when I was a strapping young man, we planned the expedition..."

His voice seems to fade away as you look back down at the book and open it up. Your fingers skim across the pages as you take in paragraphs, symbols, maps and more. Though part of you is still paranoid about this matter of Angello having been the one to give it to you, it does seem rather useful.

"...far, far into the mountains we travelled, where the bird-men of Rhaati-Ooma set upon us in a flurry of claws and beaks. We very nearly died, were it not for our snack-cakes spilling onto the ground. They fed on them while we ran! Hah! But as I was saying..."

You continue to ignore him; he's lost in his story as you look through the book. Some of these graphs look quite useful, showing distribution of magic throughout the body and likening several schools of magic to different specific regions within the brain and nervous system, with detailed charts on theories regarding their interraction. The diagrams are surprisingly well-detailed.

"...there we were, face-to-face with the fearsome triclops and his dulberous hounds. I could see the way out of this situation was through invisibility! We cloaked ourselves in magic, but unfortunately we were sniffed out. My companions were rather sore at me for that one. But I quickly divined the next way out..."

Your attention, and not the old man's, is suddenly drawn to the window when you hear a pecking. You sit up and look, spotting a dark crow. It is staring into the window, specifically at you, and it continues to peck away, evidently trying to get your attention. Old Man Grey continues to ramble.

"...let me tell you! Needless to say, dwarf flesh does NOT taste very good. The meat is much too rough. Now, gnome on the other hand, that makes a fine soup. But I'm not talking about a cookbook, haha! No, back to the subject at hand..."

The crow persists. Your eyes narrow; the last time you saw a crow, hags were not far off...

You step outside as Old Man Grey continues speaking and look at the bird, which turns to face you.

It squaks, and within its coarse throat is born words. "Tomorrow! Tomorrow! Tomorrow is the night prior to the darkening of the moon! Remember!"

Before you can reply, it squaks again and takes to flight.

You remember well the instruction the hags gave you on that night. 'Southwest of the tower of the perverted one lies a circle of stones. Come there on the night prior to the darkening of the moon. We will take you to the sabbath.'

You carry on your person the necklace they gave you, which is supposed to grant free passage and keep you from harm. You have until tomorrow night to decide if you are going.

While they never made a direct threat against you, they also didn't say they would leave you alone if you chose not to attend. After all, they too seek vengeance against Mordrax, and it could be an opportunity to gain great power.

But still you find yourself cautious and wary. While you do not doubt that you could defend yourself, these hags do not seem like good folk to triffle with. It could very well end up badly for you if you go against them, but what will happen if you go with them?

You suppose there is only one way to find out.

I don't think so, after all Mordrax is recognized as the most powerful wizard in the land (maybe not in terms of raw magical power but throw in political influence as well) and is known to be a dick in order to get what he wants.

I'm not surprised the hags hate him

Very well, we return to our tower and begin work on our spellbook, which takes time as we must disguise them as journal entries as though we are writing in a diary. I would imagine you write about your companions, your adventures and the places you've seen, keeping your darker secrets and spells hidden. It takes up the day as you work in the study where you are uninterupted until nightfall when you finish and lock the spellbook. You eat dinner with your friends and carefully study them. Ben and Merriam are glowing, seemingly having grown much closer and bonded. Faye occasionally shoots a look at Kay, who blushes and remains mostly quiet. Alex is none the wiser about any of this, bless his innocent heart.

On the subject of the sabbath, you refrain from telling them about it. You aren't yet sure who, if any, you will take with you on this journey. It isn't a matter of trust or thinking them not up to the task, but you can't be certain they would all agree with you going. After all, it is one thing to casually study darker aspects of magic -- it is another to associate with hags and witch covens. For their sake, but mostly Alex's, you remain silent on the matter.

When you sleep tonight, it is with Ben and Merriam on either side of you. The three of you simple cuddle tonight, and as they both sleep, you smile to yourself and wonder in the back of your mind what their father would think of what you've turned his children into after what you did to him. As your hands idly dance along their skin, you smirk as you think about how there are still other Cutters that haven't been corrupted, but that's for another time if at all.

You drift off to sleep with the siblings wrapped about your form, a smile on your face.

You are awoken in the middle of the night by the sounds of smashing and shouting! You run out of bed and look outside. Large, brutish ogres are out there, sniffing around and pounding on the door with clubs! Their hulking forms are humanoid, but grossly disproportionate in areas, particularly their thick skulls, forearms, legs and stomachs. They carry torches and shout to each other in a gutteral language; there appears to be somewhere around ten of them!

'Where did they come from? This close to town?! It must be some kind of raiding party from a nest or a cave or something!'

They continue to pound on the door, which is thankfully holding up due to the recent replacement being of sound build. But for how long?

The others are slow to mobilize. Ben doesn't have time to put on his armor, so he simply runs downstairs to brace the door with his sword just in case. Kaylessa appears in his window, raining arrows upon the ogres, but Faye is slow to drag herself out of bed. Alex is as well, but for different reasons; he stumbles in the darkness and hits his head.

>>1147540

You waste no time and launch a signal flare up into the sky, creating a loud bang and a bright light that illuminates the area all around. 'That's sure to send guards coming,' you think with a smile. This also helps Kay, who can now better see the ogres he is firing at.

>>1147556

With Ben bracing the door, the ogres continually fail to breach the tower. They take to throwing rocks, while you, Faye and Kay return fire with your magic. The tower becomes battleground of projectiles and energy blasts. Your firework flare continues to keep the area well-lit; even as the ogres take cover behind the trees, they are conspicuous and easy to hit. Unfortunately, as easy as they are to hit, they are tough.

At least until your unleash your new power: Spirit Rend! As you cast the spell at the thickest concentration of them, the ones right in front of the door, they freeze in fear as you pluck the strings of their souls. The necromantic energy paralyzes them, giving Ben a break while Alex keeps him supplied with energy and strength with his restoration magic.

With the ogres at the door paralyzed, the ones on the outskirts double their efforts to throw rocks. You, Faye and Kay all attempt to keep your heads down, but on one particularly unlucky moment occurs when a particularly lucky throw towards Kay as he pops up to fire. It hits him in the forehead and he falls from his window, landing on the ogres outside the door. You see this happen with wide eyes.

You shout that Kay has fallen, and word makes its way down to Ben. Thinking that there are no more ogres outside the door, he opens it and goes out swinging, only to find that they are still there! His attack seems to snap them out and they grab them both, managing to easily overpower the young man. He struggles in their grip as they bear him away!

>>1147650

You're not about to let them take your manmeat and elf boytoy! Focusing, you transform into your wind elemental form, your skin lightening with white leylines appearing in intricate patterns. You take off from the tower in flight, pursuing those damned ogres!

They seem afraid of you; superstitious creatures, but are unwilling to drop their bounty. They run north, into the forest and towards the river! You don't let up, flying over the treetops and shouting warnings at the ogres to drop them or else suffer your wrath.

>>1147662

Landing on a tree branch, you reach out with your magic to conjure up a minor illusion. The ogres, frightened of magic by default, are terrified of your image -- small as it may be. The water demon appears and they drop their captives, all fleeing in different directions.

>>1147712

As Ben and Kay are dropped into the stream, the young man surfaces and gasps, swimming to the side, but you both notice that Kay has not surfaced and is floating away. You and he realize that the elf's back is up -- he could be drowning!

>>1147714

Ben goes back into the river and goes for Kay while you keep the ogres from returning with arcane bolts, but you miss all of them now that they are in the darkness. The ogres scatter, howling into the night.

>>1147716

Ben grabs Kay and hoists the delicate elf over his shoulder and swims back to the shore. There, he lies the elf upon the grass and tries to wake him up. Not knowing what else to do, he pounds lightly on Kay's chest, which seems to work. The elf stirs and he coughs up some water as Ben helps him to sit up. You drift down to the ground to tend to his wound, using your restorative magic on his bleeding forehead. Kay's wet long hair clings to his body as he gasps, trying to breathe normally.

After a while, you and Ben return to the tower, with the human carrying the elf. There you discover some of the local guards questioning Faye, Alex and Merriam. When you return, you also answer their questions; they ask about the ogres, but you don't know where they lair. The guards promise to up the patrols on the nearby road on this night and the coming nights and they thank you for the signal. They leave a guard here for the night to stand outside, just in case.

With everyone safe and sound, you get Kaylessa wrapped up in a blanket and see him to bed.

Things don't settle until later in the night, when everyone can finally return to sleep.

'Gods, what a busy two days,' you think. 'If the next few days are as bad as these, I think it may very well kill me!'
