Last time, on Undead Doll Quest
You are the (currently) nameless girl, who awoke inside a frail coffin in a ruined city street under a lead-gray sky. Your only memory of the past is playing with your little sister, whose face you can’t remember, try as you may.

You explored around the ruined buildings, finding more coffins like yours- though some made of much more durable wood, and others with strange markings. You continued investigating the building, almost falling into a trap set by someone- whom you believe to be your kidnapper- when climbing up the stairway. While exploring the last accessible apartment, you found that it had a hole which you could use the chairs in the room to climb into in order to access the second floor- but you have heard strange noises in there.

[Sanity:70%. Madness Points ( ) ( ) ( )]

Inventory:
Burned Family(?) Photo- Was on the lid of your coffin, found it by looking around after breaking out.
Rusty Knife and Less rusty Knife- Obtained in the building you’re currently exploring.
Apartment B Metal Key A key found in the 1rst floor B apartment of the building you’re in. Use unknown.
The hole in the ceiling leaks cold water down into the ruined apartment, as the rain does on the pavement outside. The unnerving scratching hasn’t stopped- if anything, it’s gotten louder. You have piled up the chairs in the raided apartment, and clutch the knife tightly. Whatever’s up there, it’s not calm at all. You try to gulp, finding your mouth dry and tasting of dust.
>Go through the hole and into the second floor.
>Leave. Whatever’s up there is probably not going to help you find your sister.

You pile the chairs into a unstable makeshift stairway, taking care not to fall as you slowly climb towards the second floor, the cold water dripping onto your head as you come closer to the source of the scratching sounds. You breathe deeply, the air in the dark room cold- The window is broken, and rain pours through it- that’s where the water came from, huh? So the plumbing is not working here either. You stand up and look around- while the room is rather dark, the light coming through the window lets you see that you’re standing in a rather damaged bathroom, the bathtub cracked and stained red like so many things you’ve found in this building. You think you’re going to be sick…

Gripping the knife in one hand and the burned photo close to your chest with the other, you swallow nothing but dust as you creep closer to the bathroom door, the scratches coming from the other side.

>Open the door carefully. Try to not make any noise.

You lean against the rotted door, putting your ear to it to see if you can hear anything over the sound of the rain and the scratching, which, thankfully, doesn’t stop. You put the photo away as neatly as you can in your pocket, taking care not to damage it more than it already was, and throw open the door-

-And find yourself standing in front of a monster.
[Sanity: 40%. Madness Points ( ) ( ) ( )]

Your empty hand clutches your stomach as the smell hits you while you’re standing there in shock- awful rotting stench as what can only be described as a skinned dog, it’s hindlegs rotted to the bone, stops scratching the ground near corpse of a girl who can’t be much older than you, half her body already chewed through by the beast. Having thrown the door open, the monster seemed as surprised as you- though it likely won’t be for much longer.

Both you and the monster stand frozen for what feels like an eternity, but you’re the one who gets back on her feet quicker, rushing out of the room and into the bathroom as fast as you can, closing the door with a slam that cracks the rotted wood as you hastily descend through the makeshift stairway, falling off at the last one and scrambling to your feet as best as you can.

The monster breaks through the door of the bathroom in pursuit, but you’re already at the apartment door- you grab the Iron key from your pocket, closing the door behind you and just praying that it’ll lock the door- which, thankfully, it does. Rushing down the stairs to the room filled with coffins, and into the downpour on the street, you take a moment to calm yourself and think

[Sanity: 45%. Madness Points ( ) ( ) ( )]

You need to find shelter from this rain. You’re starting to feel sick…
>Try to find a place as far away from the monster as possible. With the rain, it probably won’t be able to track your scent.

You don’t know how long the door will hold against that thing- So you better get moving, and fast. Running under the lead-gray clouds, you brace yourself as the wind starts to pick up again. It feels so cold that you think you might freeze over, as you take any and all cover available from the weather. But you need to keep going- you haven’t found your sister. The girl at the apartment… no. That can’t be, too old. You hope.

The rain doesn’t look like it’ll ever stop- the bogged sewers are flooded, and the water level is beginning to raise in the street itself- You duck into a nearby building, your legs burning with exhaustion. You take out the photo for a moment, laying it on the dusty ground for it to dry, being careful to not smudge it or break the already fragile memento. Sitting down, you curl up, hugging your knees, and try to calm down.

Crying. You’re sure you’re hearing it,now, somewhere in the building- It takes you a while to stand up, your legs almost giving out beneath you after your mad dash through the flooded city- The water’s even begun seeping into the building you’re in, now, and you can only hope it’ll stop soon, or you’ll need to find higher ground. Might as well also look for the source of the crying…

You walk through the creepy, ruined interior of what you now realize used to be a supermarket- With the rain and the exhaustion, it actually took you a bit to realize. You’ll probably be able to find some food in here, if it hasn’t all rotted to nothing yet, but you’re hopeful- the marks on some of the coffins in the other building seemed recent, they must have been living off something. You walk up the stairs, following the sound- it sounds like a girl. Could it be…?

The crying is coming from the food aisle. You creep through the shadows, being careful to make the least noise possible with your water-swamped shoes. You find the source of the crying- a girl, younger than you, with her back turned.

You grab a small piece of rubble off the ground, throwing it near the girl to get her attention. She jumps, turning back quickly-

“Hey- I’m not going to hurt you, but stay there, okay?” You say, carefully. She’s the first living thing you’ve seen that isn’t trying to kill you- which makes you feel relieved, at least.

She stares at you, scared for a moment- but slowly becomes less tense as you sit down on the ground, clearly making no sign of aggression. She’s still sobbing somewhat, but has calmed down enough to speak.

O-oh, thank God I’m not th-the only one here.” She’s… kind of hard to understand, speaking more to herself than to you. Taking a better look at her, she seems to have lost her shoes, and her feet are peppered with small cuts and bruises- the first most likely due to the broken glass that litters this floor of the supermarket.

You shift your position slightly, sat down on the thankfully dry and cold floor. Letting the girl calm down for a bit, you think back on what you do know, or at least what you think you know…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ml_4sSErukI

There’s at least two types of coffins, one with a hard lid and another with a much frailer one- like the one you broke out of when you woke up. Since the other frail ones you found showed signs of people having broken out, you can assume the others have a different purpose, though you don’t know what.
Someone was laying traps in the building in which you found the other coffins and the monster. Since it’s very unlikely it was this girl, there must be more people around- Perhaps it was your kidnapper?
The monster. You shudder just thinking about it- whatever it was, it definitely wasn’t normal- It looked like something out of a horror movie. There’s definitely something going on here you don’t yet understand, on top of everything else.

Seems that taking the time to think only brought up more questions, but at least the girl seems to have calmed down somewhat. She’s looking at you, as both are sitting quietly in the abandoned store, hearing the downpour outside. She doesn’t seem willing to make the first question- probably a shy one.

Deciding to be the first one to ask a question, you wonder if she’s in the same situation as you regarding her memories. If it isn’t, it has some interesting implications you’d rather not dwell on.

My…name? I can’t- I can’t remember. Can’t remember anything since I woke up.
“You too, huh? That can’t be a coincidence.” You shake your head, trying to think of a explanation that works, but you can’t really come up with anything other than… drugs, maybe? You don’t know much about those, but it’s a possibility. Both of you fall silent for a bit, mulling it over.
“So, we should probably call each other something, since we don’t know our names.”
Huh? What do you mean?

“Just call me Sam.” You say, giving her the best smile you can- which, considering the situation, isn’t much- but you have experience with this. Much like it cheered up your little sister, the girl’s spirit seems lifted- At least she’s not crying now. She fidgets with a piece of rubble she picked up while you were thinking.

Hmmm… how about Hannah?
“That’ll work great. Nice to meet you, Hannah.”
Same. Thought I was alone in here… I’m really glad to see there’s other people.
You nod. “Yeah, this place is pretty scary. We should be safe here, I believe, the water won’t reach us and the entrance is blocked by it, so I don’t think we can leave until the rain stops. Hope it’s soon.”

The girl seems rather happy to have found another girl to talk with. You make some awkward attempts at idle chat- which are rather hard without solid memories- but it’s enough to pass the time until it starts getting darker- Is it nighttime already? With the weather, you couldn’t tell what hour it was, but it’s getting harder and harder to see now. Not much time until it’s completely dark.

Where are you going, Sam?” The young girl-Hannah, grabs you by your sleeve as you stand up.
“It’s getting dark out. We should look for something that gives off light- I think I saw a tobacco shop nearby, maybe there’s a lighter there.”
I-I’ll go with you!” She quickly stands up and begins following closely behind you like a scared puppy. You swear this reminds of you of something, but you can’t quite place your finger on it…

The tobacco shop has clearly seen much better days- you doubt it was covered in gray moss when people used it- but the lighters seem to be in usable condition. You quickly try to check if it works, and are rewarded with a bright little flame- seems they were made to last. You also grab a couple of pieces of shattered shelf that were lying around, Hannah carrying some more at your request- never hurts to be prepared. Quietly, both of you walk through the halls of the abandoned mall- you swear you hear strange noises sometimes, but it’s probably just your imagination this time. You arrive at the center of one of the small plazas in the floor, which should give you good visibility if anything does come near- or it would, if you could see past your lighter.

You briefly consider the downsides to lighting a bonfire- It’ll definitely draw attention to your location, and you don’t have much wood available. The prospect of continuing to search this place in the pitch darkness of night terrifies both you and Hannah, and it’s not like you have anything else to burn. If only you had your coffin here…

Deciding to make a small bonfire with the pieces of shelf you have, Hannah holds her own lighter- because why would you not grab two? You really didn’t have time to test all of them, and the shop creeped you out, but two light sources are better than one- and uses it to give you just enough vision to put the pieces of old, dry wood into something at least ressembling a bonfire. Using her lighter to burn the wood, you start explaining to her that you’ll sleep in shifts- sadly, you don’t have a way to check the passage of time, but you’ll just switch out when one’s feeling sleepy. She gets the first turn at falling asleep, since she seemed to be in worse shape than you.

You look into the darkness, the light of the bonfire behind your back, barely enough to let you see the nearby walls, cracked and filled with graffiti you can’t make head or tails of. Huh, you hadn’t noticed that before. Maybe you should look at it in the morning…

After a mostly uneventful night, you wake up your partner to find that the rain still hasn’t stopped- though now you can at least see something, and it’s not raining as heavily as before. You…

Alright, writing for reading the graffiti...
>>
You decide to spend some time trying to make sense of the rather impressive amount of graffiti in the walls- How had you not noticed it before? Guess you were too busy trying to find your way around in the dark. The handwriting’s quality seems to get worse and worse the lower down the wall you go, probably because whoever made it was getting tired- you wonder what could’ve made them write all… this nonsense. You think you might be able to make sense of it if you spend some time- though even at it’s best the handwriting is hard to decipher.

What feels like an eternity- but was probably a hour at most- later, you give up on trying to make sense of any more of the writing. You could figure out that the word “doll” is repeated multiple times, as was the word “monster”, but you have no idea what the general message is supposed to mean. Maybe some kind of creepy doll monster? Jeez, you think you never liked those kinds of dolls. Does anybody even like them other than weird old people?

Hannah, while you were inspecting the wall, seemed to have stayed relatively close, going into some of the nearest shops to look for things- a couple pieces of wood, mostly dry, a rusty old key she tells you she found on the floor, and a couple books from a nearby store- guess you have enough paper to burn for a while, if you need it… doubt you’ll be able to take it very far away from here, though.

What you feel you need the most right now Is just generally useful items. It’s weird that you aren’t hungry yet, after all that happened yesterday, or thirsty- but, not knowing what problems you’re going to encounter, you’ll get something you can use for a lot of things. Like rope, or tape, or something that’ll just be useful. You tell Hannah that you’re planning on exploring the mall to look for these kinds of things.

Oh, sure! It’s better than just sitting here, and maybe we’ll find something to help us get out of here. Like a phone to call home?” You wish you could be that optimistic right now, but maybe she’s right. Maybe this’ll all end soon, and you can go home with your sister…

You begin by checking the few shops you hadn’t looked into the day before on the same floor, though none of them have anything particularly special. Not much use for dated perfume in this situation, or broken furniture, though you did grab one of those sticks you think people used to take photos with their phone- mostly because it seemed safer to use that than to poke things with your hand-, so you go towards the stairs to descend into the lower floor, since you remember seeing a hardware store there-

-And find it flooded. Seems the doors must have broken from the pressure of the water, and the water came rushing in- You use the conveniently found stick to try and see how deep it is- and hear a loud crunching sound, the part of the stick you submerged in it having been bitten off by…something. There’s something in the water. Hannah panics and runs up the stairs, and you step back, away from the… thing. You catch a glimpse of something white.
There’s a monster in the water, and you’re locked in the building with it

You inspect even the elevator shaft, which has the doors bent inwards enough for you to be able to see the ladder… A ladder… There’s got to be an access to the elevator shaft in the other floor, but you never thought to use the ladder- with the stairs available, it was just risking falling down, but… It might be worth a shot.

Before deciding on anything, you return to the safer floor, the middle one. Hannah is still scared, but seems to have calmed down somewhat by following you around. Neither of you have said a word yet.

>Climb up the ladder in the elevator shaft, to the rooftop. It’s probably the best chance you have to get a good view of the city.
>Climb down the ladder. If the basement isn’t flooded, that means there’s probably a exit to high enough ground that you’ll be able to escape the monster in the water.

Up we go, it seems. Writing...

You tell Hannah that you’ll try going up the ladder in the elevator shaft to get to the rooftop. That should get you a good view of the city, and any possible ways to escape.

The-the ladder? But what if we fall?
You shake your head. “Better than dealing with whatever’s in the water.”
We could wait for the water to drain…
“It didn’t drain overnight. It’s probably gone up- doesn’t look like it’ll drain anytime soon, anyways. Come on” You grab her by the sleeve, and she follows you meekly. Guess she’s more scared of being alone than of falling, then.

You find the elevator shaft in the floor, the metal doors thrown on the ground around it. Hard to miss, really- Using your lighter, you lean in very slightly, resting your hand on the wall to avoid falling into the dark shaft, and find the ladder, on the right side. Seems you’ll have to… make a leap. You wish you had listened to Hannah and waiting, but you can’t just go back on it now. Turning back, you give her a reassuring smile, before jumping towards the ladder-

-And managing to catch onto it.

Sam! Are you alright?!
“Yeah, I grabbed onto it! I’m going to go up, you-“

>Stay down there. Don’t risk her falling down- you’re just going to check the view of the city from up above, after all.
>Come with me!

Isn't her feet fucked up? She should stay.
Unless she really doesn't want to be alone, then climb down a few rungs so we can catch her if she fucks up.

Alright, writing.

This is correct, and she'd have fallen off unless you grabbed her. And died from the fall into a dry basement floor multiple stories bellow.

Motherfucker. When you say"No plot armor", you meant it, didn't you.

Place your bets, how fucked are we, and what's up there?

“-Stay down there. It’s dangerous for you to jump here, your feet are hurt, right?”
She nods. “ Yes…. But please come back, okay?
“Of course! I’m just going to take a look at the city, maybe see If I can find a way out of this mess. I promise I’ll be back.” You’d give her a thumbs up, but your hands are occupied with keeping you from falling into the bottomless-looking shaft. Looking upwards, you can see some light coming from the next floor, and from the rooftop- You start climbing, being very careful to not miss the ladder as the shaft gets darker.

It takes you a good while, and your arms are tired, but you’re finally at the rooftop. You fall on your knees, taking a moment to catch your breath- with all the running around since yesterday, you’re really tired- sleeping did help a lot, but you didn’t rest well. Standing up again, the gray skies once again over your head, you look towards the edge-

Seeing another girl standing there.
>Call out to her. More people working together would be nice.
>Sneak closer, get a better look. You hope it’s a friend, but…

Deciding that it’s better to be safe than sorry, you try to avoid making noise as you walk closer to her. The rain begins falling again- which is sort of helpful for you, since it makes your footsteps harder to hear. She doesn’t seem to have heard you yet, so you take your time to get a closer look.
She seems to be older than you, for one. Taller, too, by about a head- her clothing seems strangely well-kept, for someone in this place, probably woke up recently? You aren’t sure. She seems to just be staring at the flooded streets bellow, unmoving, like if she was waiting for the water to just go away.
>Talk to her.
>Just take a look at the city. You don’t have much time, if the rain gets heavier, you won’t be able to see very far.

We should probably bail right about now. Try the basement. Anywhere but here.

I have a feeling this is going to have to continue next thread, because it'll take more time than I have left.
Apologies.

Find rock, and throw it to the other side of her to get her attention. Based on her reaction to the noise, we can determine our best course of action.
