If my hunch is right, we're probably going to get a new card to replace Void Ogre Dragon at some point. Void OG wasn't summoned at all, and didn't fit our deck archetype, so I suppose it means that the Duel Spirits will find some other card more fit to help us out. Theoretically.

I guess but still, what Dragon other than Barkion even fits our archetype? Freakin, Ascension Sky Dragon? Plus, I feel Duel Spirits don't work that way. I think each card has its own Spirit, kind of like how Rescue Cat has its own personality. Void OG must've felt a bit miffed that we've never used him, couple that shit with the XYZ monsters...

From what I understand, your draw becomes better as you get in tune with your deck. The closer you are to your deck and its spirits, the more help will you get from it. If you want anything else about this you should probably ask Jaden.

I ran out of spells and traps that i felt were useful so I added maxx C and effect veiler. I also added light and darkness dragon because its cool and is a bitchin duel spirit

These are pretty similar lists, mostly because the zombie core is pretty straightforward. Lets look at the differences we had and hash out the best way forward.

As a note, your list only has 21 creatures and is 2 cards short

List 1:

Gernia is not a great card I admit so cutting it for a goblin zombie seems reasonable. IMO Goblin zombie x3 is overkill as the lower lifepoint format makes spending a turn letting him die sometimes not worth it, his is also purely a defensive card.

Giant Rat on the other hand searches a big chunk of our deck but most importantly it searches pyramid turtle which opens up some sweet plays like crash giant rat, crash the turtle we get, and swing with zombie red eyes. I basically view it as pyramid turtle 4 and 5.

The zombie deck has basically no way to interact with set creatures aside from running into them, so I liked nobleman of crossout to give us a way around something set without triggering it.

Personally, i think negate attack is a bad card, especially in a zombie deck where it is OK for our creatures to die since we can rebuild a board super easily. The only reason I put windstorm of equata in my build was that switching battle positions could get us some monster kills with our multiple 'steal something we just killed' cards.

I'm basically treating effect veiler and maxx C as spells since I didn't really like our other options and i feel we're good on monsters. Effect Veiler is also a tuner which goes great with the syncho zombie thing we have going on.

I would propose the following as an updated list, but cutting the maxx C for a 2nd goblin zombie doesn't seem that unreasonable.

I like having Synchro Change because all our Zombie synchros are level 6, so we can switch from one to the other in an emergency at the cost of negating the new one's effects. Shutendoji also allows us to get back whatever Zombie we banish, including the synchro from Synchro Change.
Dust Tornado can be crucial in removing a key Spell/Trap or facedown backrow. I don't see the point of Phoenix Wing Wind Blast in this deck we have so you can replace it with Dust Tornado.
Gaia Knight The Force of Earth is a shit synchro. Magical Android can actually get us LP back if Zombie World is not in play to turn it into a Zombie.
I see your point about Negate Attack though. If we had access to something like one of the new meta Mirror Force variants, then we could use those instead of shit like Negate Attack.

I don't understand the point of synchro change. All of our zombie synchros have 2400-2500 attack, so we wont get a big boost from switching between them. Best case scenario we change into gaia knight who has... 26000 attack? What's the point of running a card for +200 attack? At that point even Black Pendant is a more relevant card. It isn't even a quickplay so it can't dodge removal or anything.

I like wing wind blast because it's versatile. It outs any extra deck monster, interrupts combos and can temporarily remove spells/traps. That being said, it is a card that can fuck you over if used wrong, i'm not sure if putting it in the hands of the majority of the players here is a good idea or if something more straightforward and hard to fuck up like dust tornado is better.

Discarding cards like mezuki (or for mezuki to revive) is pretty sweet though. Zombies can definitely get mileage out of the extra "cost"

Gaia Knight is good to have because it doesn't require plaguespreader to make (all of our cool zombie synchros require plaguespreader). We have 3 or 4 other tuners that cant make anything unless we put some generic synchro monsters in here to use. We should run android for the same reason, the option to make a big body is good to have even if effect is worthless sometimes. It is good practice to cover each level 5 through 8 in the extra deck.

Pot of duality is a mixed bag. It's a great card, but at the same time using it basically neuters this entire deck. Either we play it turn 1 or we have to stop EVERYTHING to use it on a different turn. Zombies does not seem like a good home for it.

If we had a mirror force (or variant) i'd be all for running it. Hell, i'd be all for running another sakuretsu armor if we had it. Battle traps that actually deal with a threat are WAY better than ones that just stall for a turn.

Malevolent Mech is an extra 2400 beater we can summon from pyramid turtle. When summoned this way he DOES NOT blow us up when he dies. I think he's worth keeping for just that play alone. We cant rely on one copy of red eyes zombie to fulfill that role for the whole game.

The problem with zombie world is that it doesn't actually DO anything on it's own. 3 of it is overkill because we have nothing to do with the other copies we draw and we aren't building this deck as an anti-meta deck, it's more of a standard zombie deck that just happens to include zombie world because like 3 or 4 of our best cards benefit from it.

I put light and darkness in here because zombies have a problem dealing with big monsters(especially without access to some XYZ toolbox monsters). this deck really cant do anything to a big monster with 2600+ attack. Light and darkness dragon seemed like the best option on the list as a 'useful big guy' since we have very limited removal options in our cardpool. I'm open to other ideas to solve this issue if you have any suggestions.

I felt like dumping some of the decks I used in the Tag Force games since I haven't been able to participate a lot lately and we're finally using a deck that isn't beasts. This is what, the 3rd time? :^)

They're all partial net decks, have a lot of the same cards because the AI was shit at dealing with them (Dimensional Prison OP, pls nerf), I never actually got around to finishing any of them so they have filler cards (like Lightning Tricorn), and none have a very consistent them, but I figure some of you might get some good ideas for decks out of them before they're forgotten in a day or two because they're shit. I'm also not familiar with what banlist Playmaker uses, so some of the cards might be banned.

The Jurrac, X-Saber, and Dragunity decks were made in one of the older games, so there are probably some newer cards they could use (definitely the X-Saber one, I think they just didn't add some of the XX-Saber cards to the game I was playing at the time for whatever reason.)

You'd have to be pretty unlucky to draw all removal though) Bonus despair points if you get more than one Shi En out. The one I used in game had Shadow of the Six Samurai - Shien, but I doubt he's ever going to show up. I don't think I ever even used him anyway.

Well, none of the first three have said anything, so I doubt they're duel spirits. In fact, Neither Void OG or Rescue cat were purchased, so it may be that we won't be finding any in packs or starter decks.

If I did have to guess which of our two unsummoned zombie synchros is a duel spirit, it'd be archfiend zombie-skull. Revived King Ha-Des is too situational, and zombie-skull has a stricter summoning condition.

We didn't exactly get to summon Ha Des or Zombie-Skull yet. We got out Doomkaiser Dragon and did a summon chant for him, but got no response. We didn't even get a cool chant for L&D Dragon, so I dunno who our duel spirit is in this pack.

Also Playmaker I know you're gonna read this. One way to improve the quest might be to describe the monsters better as they get summoned, attack, get destroyed, tributed, or whatever. Like Uni-Zombie looks drunk in his artwork, so tuning him with another monster might be them getting almost-drunk and falling into the synchro portal. What I mean to say is to characterize them more. Don't the anime/manga do that, where sometimes monsters react to getting destroyed or fucked up by a Spell/Trap?

I'm not exactly satisfied with how this went and what we covered but It could have been worse. Sadly I've got to focus on studying now, but I'll be free from the 1st Febuary ownwards, so expect episode 17 to start around then.

We do care about Wisteria, it's just that we wanted to leave her be for a bit so tensions calm down. I guess this isn't the case now. We have to beat her with out Zombie deck and make her see sense as well as put that condom we stole to good use :^)

Getting to pilot a new deck is fun!
I’d like to get more into Gerrard’s Headspace during the duels though. As the attributes of our monsters have shifted from earth to dark, it would be nice to see how at the same time our thoughts are shifting from down-to-earth over to sadness and anger. Gerrard needs to participate in the banter more.

Right now, since we can’t get Wisteria to talk to us, I think our plan should be to make it to the finals where we will face her if we do well enough. Then she’ll have to at least listen to our apology.

Also, is it weird on your end that we seem to be ditching our duel spirits? First never summoning void OG and now switching out the deck that Rescue Cat is in, and Void’s dust went into?

The last one's not actually on me, there's something wrong with the formatting clauses while trying to mix them (this error wasn't here a couple months ago, HIROOOOOOOOO), good thing I had a hint of how to make it work through it thanks to an earlier mishap.
But yeah I should do that. I actually spend quite a while with kenwiel's help double and triple checking the big comeback post, making sure I don't fuck up. In the first draft I actualyl killed you by accident, it took a while to figure out that we lost a pyramid turtle in the shuffle.

I'm actually thinking a lot about how to balance plot and duels. Obviously later we'll have plot-duels and that'll solve itself, but since we're dueling randoms I'm not sure how much forced plot would be appropriate right now.

Actually, when writing the last of Rie's battle post I started thinking about giving her more banter. I think I'll try getting more non-repetitive banter from duelists in the future, but results may vary, especially initially.

As for Gerrard I'm still split. He's the silent self-insert protag so far, I was told adding some character to him would be nice once before but I'm afraid to overdo it.

Void ogre was never a good fit for us it would be now but the card was blank after we got the cards to make a deck with it anyways so we had no way to use it really. as for rescue cat we kept it close to our heart that will have to be good enough until we get some better cards for that deck.

Also yeah what this guy said. The whole silent protagonist thing only really works if you give us narrative choices, to speak through actions rather than words, but in this case we're muted in both our actions and words unless we do write ins or just walk around and do shit.

I'd WANT to be the whole bad-ass brooding type dude, or the up-beat cheery down to earth type, but I'm lost both as to where we stand in the story and where we stand as a character because of the lack of actions and words we can take.

It just kinda feels like we're waiting for shit to happen, which in this whole CYOA Quest forum, is kind of a downer.

I like the Zombie deck. We need another duel spirit in this though. Did not expect Syrus to be here and on the same skill powerlevel as at the end of GX. We still need to acquire more synchros and MAYBE an xyz or two. Also see >>2226026 and >>2223986 for usable cards. I did NOT actually expect people fucking like that, but this is a somewhat realistic anime setting with cute designed girls everywhere, I'd be trying to get laid at the same time I try to survive in duels if I was living in a world like that, come on. I personally also can't believe we survived a deck-out mill-stall deck like that, definitely the high point of this thread.

I'd like older characters we dueled from the first season to come back, see how they changed or improved. I also suggested adding some character to the monsters themselves in lieu of characterizing Gerrard, if you like. If you're gonna characterize Gerrard, you gotta do it slowly but subtly - a reaction here, a tendency there, not being a retard like anime settings sometimes compel you to be, etc. There's still a lot of room for improvement and I look forward to these threads a lot.

But real talk, in any other quest I'd hate talk like this because waifushit can and does ruin quests. One of the only reasons why I even like it here in this is because it's part of the setting and core of the quest with Tag Force being a thing, not to mention the Tag Force games are unironically kino making this a plus. And the OC characters waifus are supposedly good and you can romance anyone, so yeah.
