WELCOME BACK Ladies and Gents! I know it has been quite some time but we’re finally ready to jump feet first back into the world of RWBY: Icarus Arisen. I Am currently working on a synopsis for the first volume for those of you who do not wish to read through the 12 plus threads that came before which will be out sometime during this thread. For those of you coming back you know the drill! Let’s roll!

“Are you sure this is a good idea kid? I mean I’m no expert but aren’t you supposed to try this stuff out in...I don’t know, ‘controlled’ environments?”

These were the words that Qrow had asked you and your small team of ‘engineers’ the night before had decided to test what you had spent the last two weeks working on. When you and Khrone had wandered the woods that would have the amounted to almost nothing; But with proper facilities, Ruby’s incredible engineering capabilities and Athena’s vast technical knowledge from Atlas combined with your metalurgic knowledge was a force to be reckoned with. And as you now stood on the cliff overlooking the woods you had had your initiation test, the case with your newest creations.

And oh what creations they were.

Setting the case down you quickly open the case, admiring the freshly polished and blackened metal that met your eye. Taking a knee you reach to the back of your right shoulder and with a few seconds of searching you find the release lever and ignore the tingles of the limbs synthetic nerves severing them from your own. Hearing the dull thud of it hitting the dirt you use the remaining arm to grip the first of your new limbs.

The metal, polished and black was a testament to the work Ruby had put into the finishing touches but it was nothing compared to the more immediate difference: Its size. Thanks to advancements in power technology in Atlas the reactors required to make them function were far smaller, taking up only the shoulder and bicep areas as opposed to the entire internal structure. Thanks to all of this for the first time since you had started making your own prosthetics they fit your frame as opposed to the massive ‘muscled’ appearance they had once had.

They were smaller, lighter and still had the same strength; And that wasn’t even considering the many upgrades you had added to them.

Pressing the arm to its waiting socket you wince as the connection is made, the feeling akin to the whole arm having fallen asleep. Thankfully it fades just as quickly as it happens and immediately you begin to test the connections. Curling and flexing the limb it reacts in time and for a time you are fascinated at the smoothness of its movement before moving onto the more ‘fascinating’ things Ruby had convinced you to add.

(Cont)
>>
>>2518451

Tensing your hand you watch as with a near silent ‘thwip’ five blade like claws slip out of the fingertips. Ruby insisted on having climbing claws on both hands and giving you an added weapon was never a bad thing. Testing it a number of times you sheathe and extend the claws while moving and sure enough they were working as intended. You’d still have to test it on the other limb but so far so good.

Clenching your fist you hold your arm out and watch as just behind the wrist the armored panels slip aside and a small object the size of your scroll slides up. Once it is clear of your internal structure the object splits apart, an arc of blue-white energy dancing between them. This had been perhaps Ruby’s most exciting addition and as you tense your hand you watch the small ball of energy travel a few hundred feet before exploding in a tiny burst of light. It wasn’t enough to kill any Grimm in a single shot to be certain, but having a miniaturized Prometheus cannon was certainly handy; Especially since with the reactor it would never run out of shots.

That left the last and certainly weirdest upgrade: The Grapple Hand.

What Ruby had been thinking at the time you aren’t sure but opening your hand and tensing your ‘shoulder’ you watch as your hand is fired forward, a cable made of the same alloy as your limbs tethering it to your body. That wasn’t the weird part, at least not to you; It was the fact that you could still feel your hand and sure enough as you flexed and twitched the fingers you were able to get basic motor function to crawl it across the ground. Tensing your shoulder again the cable rapidly spools up and with a slight ‘thunk’ your hand is once again secured to your arm.

At least it was all working so far.

Quickly removing your left arm you attach the new limb in its place and after the tingling sensation of connection subsides you begin to go over the number of changes that had been put in place. The claws were functional as you had expected them to be, but it would be the other two changes you were more worried about. Tensing your arm you watch as similar to the Prometheus Cannon a disk like protrusion expands out before fanning out to reveal a fully metallic hoplon.

But the fun did not end there.

Flexing the left wrist the palm’s plating slides away as a small cylindrical hilt protrudes out. Gripping the object with your right hand you pull free an incredibly short sword, giving it a twist and a few test swings before returning it to its hidden sheathe. It looked like everything was in working order, the only question is now what were you really going to test against the Grimm Down below?

>Well, what’s the plan?
>A. May as well test all of them.
>B. Just focus on the Prometheus Cannon and Sword for now.
>C. Go for the Claws
>D. Sword and Board

You knew all the bits and pieces would work as during the construction you had insisted they be installed, tested and improved upon. You weren’t here for testing these, you were here to test something far more dangerous; If not to you than to anyone around you. Ever since Grimm Nacht and your following dosing of the ‘Grimm Dust’ that Ozpin had prescribed you it had become Qrow’s mission to train you to use it; Or more correctly keep control. You at first refused to even attempt such a thing, however when the Huntsman pointed out that your options were to not try and potentially hurt your friends or try and gain control and make use of The Scourge and tame it.

Naturally you accepted, if reluctantly.

Having done very little training in the month you had off you could not enter the armored state you had achieved beforehand you had achieved at least something. By luring The Scourge out with your negative emotions you could draw power from the Grimm within you so long as the emotion was maintained. Given its nature as a Grimm this power came in the form of increased strength, speed, reflexes and senses; Even going so far as allowing you to ‘smell’ and ‘see’ the aura of others.

If it weren’t for the increased aggression, loss of impulse control and the fact that your eyes became the same soulless red as the monsters you killed you’d say you had mastered the skill.

Closing your eyes you reach into the back of your mind, pulling forth the ‘core’ memory you had chosen to trigger the change which meant that you:

>Well, which memory to you pull upon.
>A. The Fear you had when Ruby and Pyrrha discovered your dark secret
>B. The Pain of Yang ripping your arms off during a spar
>C.The Anger at Torchwick for what he did to you
>D. Another Memory (Write-In)

You looked back to Torchwick, the man who for the most part was the cause of most of your more recent problems. He had been the one that forced your transformation into the abomination that was the Scourge as well as the reason the two of you had worked together for the first and potentially last time. There was a morose form of amusement that he was the very thing you now used to draw forth your anger you feel the flush of warmth you had come to associate with the change. You knew it was Adrenaline, Endorphins and a host of other hormones surged through you but it did not change the pleasure you felt.

You were looking forward to the coming ‘test’ far more than you had when you first woke up.

Opening your eyes you look back to the school and sure enough see the slightest licks of what you had come to associate with the aura of others. While you couldn’t see it you knew your eyes had already shifted and so you quickly look away, prefring that any potential passerbys didn’t see that your normally green eyes were drastically different. Stepping closer to the cliff’s edge you feel the wind rush up to meet you, blowing your hair back and tempering your bloodlust; At least enough for you to remember the task at hand.

Clenching your hands you had no idea what you’d find down there, but it didn’t matter because it would die anyway.

You’re almost certain you hear Velvet saying ‘oh not again’ as you let gravity pull you down do the waiting woods below. As the woodlands below continue to rise up to meet you take a moment to angle yourself towards an mostly open clearing. Bringing your shield up you grunt slightly as you make landfall, tearing up the grass as you skid across the clearing. Rolling to your feet as your momentum dies you take off into the woods, bounding across the ground with an ease and speed you never could have had with your brace.

It mattered little where you were headed seeing as you could already hear Grimm in the distance in almost every direction and they no doubt could feel your anger.

It would be another minute before you’d find your first prey, a pack of Beowolves that had been tearing into an animal carcass. Tensing your hands you feel your claws extend as you clear the brush and reach the closest member of the pack. It was clear they did not expect the attack as you lash out with a swipe, cutting a series of deep gashes into its side before following up with a devastating uppercut. You savor the feeling of the beasts body goes limp, sinking further into your hand as its body begins to decay.

One down, three to go.

There was never an intention to abandon it, which I think is a major misconception of a lot of people as far as I've seen. I'm well aware that I start a number of quests and seemingly pick up and drop them at random but that isn't as much as the case as it might seem. My 'problem' if there is one is that I am easily inspired to do things and i'm always wanting to do things and make my own little universe for people to play in.

Which means once the idea is there it won't get out until I get started.

It also boils down to the following logic:

Think of every QM on /qst/ as a T.V station and their whole job beyond providing entertainment is to bring in readers. Sure I can understand the desire to continue the same tried and tested story that you've started with, but if you're 20-30 threads in that might intimidate people or there may be people who don't have a whole lot of time to catch up. That's how I see quests and my quests in particular, I'd rather have variety and other things that fans of my work might be receptive to or might catch the eye of someone and because 'hey it's only thread one or two' they might take the time to participate and look forward to that quest.

It's supply and demand basically.

Now, my problem up until recently is that I didn't really know how to schedule my shit to give a predetermined time for people to know 'what's happening when' but I think i've figured that out.

Hurling the decaying Beowolf at the Alpha of the pack you are set upon on both sides by the remaining pack members. Tensing your left arm you continue the rotation started by the throw the slight rattle of your sword sliding out of your elbow and impaling the left creature in the chest and dragging it into the ground. Using the now created lever you kick off the ground and push yourself away from the second Grimm, narrowly avoiding its claws in the process. Retracting the blade you give the once impaled beast a kick. Watching its body slam into the lesser Beowolf you continue to press the assault, leaping up onto its body and straddling its shoulders before gripping the beast by its teeth and with a roar decapitate it.

You don’t want to admit it, at least not openly; But the spray and warmth of grimmblood sent a shiver down your spine.

Flipping off the creature you barely dive out of the way of a pair of strikes from the Alpha you had distracted, and seeing the brush break behind it there was no mistaking it; The Alpha had called for backup. Clenching your fists you couldn’t help but grin, ignoring the strange feeling of grimmblood hardening and evaporating away as you call out to them.

“Come on! We’re all monsters here! BRING IT ON!”

You surge forward, far faster than you ever could have without your newfound power. Aiming for the lead Grimm you fire off a burst from your arm cannon, watching as it impacts and detonates at the beasts throat, sending it’s head back in a burst of light. Continuing to close the gap you launch your Grapple Hand at the beast, your hand glowing the same golden light as your semblance as it punches straight through it. Retracting the limb you Grab hold of the beasts back you turn yourself into a spin, dragging the dying Beowolf from the ground and slamming it into another two with force. Hearing bones snap and whimpers as the two whelps are pinned beneath the other beowolf you know they are no threat to you.

Retracting your hand you look to the remaining trio and give a snarling grin.

You can feel the low rumble in your throat as you stare them down, the warmth building to a far greater flame. You could feel it, their fear, their pain and for a brief moment you relish in it as the thoughts dance along the back of your mind; Could Grimm feel anything? Was this just you convincing yourself or was the Scourge showing you something you didn’t know? Regardless you take a step forward and watch as the beasts stay immobile.

‘Well Well, would you look at that? Seems they finally caught on, huh?’ You hear in the back of your mind, the taunting and low voice of The Scourge in your mind.

This had been an unfortunate side effect of your work; Let alone the one you had refused to inform Qrow or Ozpin about. Ever since the events of Grimm Nacht and your further testing and training you had discovered something you had not expected to find. Every time you had reached into its power and drew upon it you had unwittingly been giving something in return: Sentience. It was no longer giving broken sentences but was as close to aware as you figured it could be and it seemed you had roused it’s interest.

‘What are you talking about?’ You think to yourself, getting a rumbling chuckle.

’The Pups, they know their place before us; They can feel it, our presence, our power, our influence. Mark them.’

‘What do you mean ‘Mark them’? With a pen or something?’ You ask, incredulous at what the damn thing is talking about; Only to then realize you were asking IT to tell you what to do.

’Oh just touch the damn things and I’ll do the rest. Idiot.’

While skeptical you do as The Scourge inists and approach the trio of beasts. As he told you they do not move, let alone react; By the time you are within arms reach however they move, lowering themselves enough for you to be face to maw with the creatures. For a moment you half expect whatever the Beast Within was doing to them wore off and yet they do not move a muscle.

’Go on already.’ it insists and you can almost feel the roll of its non-existent eyes.

Extending a hand out you hesitate, your hand only mere inches from the Alpha’s skull. This goes against every instinct you know and had been taught over the last decade. Forcing back the urge to crush it’s head you press your palm to it and you are overwhelmed with the strangest sensation. It was similar to the out of body experience you had felt when you had been decapitated, though far less literal. When the changes start appearing on the Alpha however you are far more surprised.

You watch as the usual red color begins to flicker and fade, before suddenly billowing back to life with a similar jade to your ‘normal’ eyes. You recoil in shock and notice that where you had been touching the beast there was now a mark and after further looking at it you could vaguely see it appeared in the shape of a setting sun...or was it rising?

You weren’t sure.

Repeating the action with the other two Beowolves you see that sure enough the same event occurs, their color changing and branded sun mark on their heads. Stepping back the trio look at you and you decide it was time to start asking questions.

‘Just what the hell did you just do?’ You ask.

’Not ‘me, ‘us’.’

‘Okay then….what did ‘we’ do?’ You reiterate, feeling no more comfort in knowing that you were partly responsible.

’I gave them a spark as it were, a glimpse of your soul and a touch of my intellect; To take a lot of information you couldn’t grasp and make it easy to swallow look at it like this. They are your Beowolves now and they will serve you without hesitation.’ The Scourge says.

You’re floored.

‘Can it spread...whatever you did to these things?’ You ask, watching the trio of beasts tilt their heads and look to you.

You hear another laugh, a slow and rumbling laugh that sends a shiver down your back.

’Allow me to show you just what we’re capable of. boy.’

Before you can ask you are jarred as the alpha picks you up and sets you onto its back. Before you can even rangle free it takes off with impressive speed, heading off into the woods for a few minutes.

‘What the hell are you doing?!’ You all but scream at at yourself only to get a very easy response.

’We’re going to need more space; Unless you’d prefer we draw every huntsman at the Academy to us instead then I’m all for i-’

‘No! No! I’m fine with more space!’ You reply and you here it laugh once more.

It’s only a few minutes more when you find yourself somewhere in the Forever Fall you had never entered before. When the Beowolf halts you assume it is finally wherever it is The Scourge determined was ‘far enough away’ which also begged the question of how it determined distance.

For a moment you don’t know what the point was of this was but then you hear it. If you did not have your enhanced hearing you wouldn’t have heard it, the slight twitch of foliage and rumble of Earth. Ahead of you, behind you, all around you the sound grew and grew and when you finally saw what had caused it you were shocked.

Grimm dozens of them and all manner of species.

You instantly put your hands up but The Scourge speaks up:

’Relax, Relax. They are not going to fight you so long as you don’t fight them.’

‘Relax?! DID YOU DO THIS?!’

’Of course I did this, You asked me if you could spread your mark and this is my answer.’

‘And I get that you called them...but what does it mean?’ You continue.

You can feel the silent disdain for your backseat voice before actually speaks up.

’Because you need to understand something Boy; These beasts, these creatures you consider mindless and simple are far more than that. They have a structure, a hierarchy and as we stand right now we are the Alpha Predator. Your Brand, your mark is only a nicety and more permanent change; But in reality you are the Master here because you are the most advanced Grimm and they know it.’

Right now we're probably on a rung below the primordial Grimm (like the dragon) who are in turn below Salem.

You...you could control the Grimm? Not just the marked ones but ALL of them? That...that changed everything, didn’t it?

‘That means I-’ You start to think but before you can even finish the sentence you are shocked by the sound of the number of the Grimm growling as The Scourge speaks up.

’YOU cannot do anything, not alone! Remember boy, without me these creatures would simply tear you apart.’ The Grimm Rumbles, the growling around you quieting down as it becomes apparent you get the picture.

Looking over the Trio of your branded Grimm, the large horde of normal Grimm and the woods around you you begin to come to terms with the facts presented before you. This ability to control standard Grimm was something you could only do with The Scourges influence, which in hindsight made sense seeing as YOU weren’t the Grimm. You also could still control the marked Grimm, Scourge or not; However why that was possible was not something the Scourge had really clarified.

Surely it couldn’t be a bad thing whatever it was.

Feeling the rumble in your stomach you realize you have completely lost track of time and looking at your scroll you realize a horrifying fact: YOU WERE LATE FOR BREAKFAST!

>What do you do?
>A. This is too important to worry about that, Mark the Grimm
>B. Mark the Alpha Grimm then make a mad dash for breakfast
>C. Food, Food, Food, Food, FOOD!
>D. Other

>C
Not like there's a shortage of Grimm, we can test this on a fuller stomach and after telling our friends.

Can we ask The Scourge if there is a cap on how many we can mark? Or if there will be any adverse affects on us if we mark as many as we can?
>>
>>2525359
The Scourge seems to gain more control the less Aura we have.
That's why the black medicine releases the Scourge completely, it temporarily shatters our Aura.
>>
>>2525359
You CAN ask, however to give you a blunt answer there isn't really any adverse effect that you can see.If there was you'd have seen it in the first three you had marked.
>>
>>2525370
Well then screw breakfast, we can get by not eating one meal out of the day, having spent our early years wander through the wilderness it's not like we aren't used to it.
>>
>>2525380
But it's the first Breakfast of Volume 2, you know what that means is happening.
>>
>>2525386
Oh shit now I don't know which to pick....can we invite the Grimm to breakfast?
>>
>>2525403
Do you think that's a truly good idea?
>>
>>2525411
Good god no, but the thought made me giggle like a school girl

Testing out what The Scourge had told you you look at the gathered Grimm and think for the Alpha’s to step forward. It takes a few tries to get your message across but when it finally does there are five that step forward. Two more Beowolves, a Boarbatusk and surprisingly enough the last doesn’t step forward as much as it lands.

A great and mighty Nevermore.

Stepping up to each of them you spend what must be a minute at the most giving each of them your mark. With each successive branding you feel your hunger grow and by the time you are finished your leg is trembling. Was this just coincidence or was this just a side-effect of the process? Whatever the case when you are done your hunger becomes a ravenous craving for food.

You’re about to take off when The Scourge speaks up.

’Don’t bother, we have a faster way to get back now’

Before you can even clear the fog of hunger from your mind to ask just what it means you feel rough bone claws around your arms and a lurching sensation as you are dragged into the sky. Looking up in alarm you see the glowing green eyes of the Nevermore looking down at you, its head twitching in curiosity at your alarm. Sure it was faster but it was still electing to have a Nevermore fly over a place where there were hundreds of people with weapons.

Was this really a good idea?!

Continuing up into the air you see the Academy shrinking below you it quickly becomes a realization that what you had thought to do and what The Scourge had in mind were two VERY different things. Just as you’re about to raise the mental question to why you were in this position you see the rooftop of the cafeteria blow open and an unmistakable blonde hair of your partner, Yang Xaio Long.

That wasn’t good.

>How are we doing to deal with this?
>A. Send the Nevermore down, you’re going to need to pull out of the dive.
>B. You need to drop now! You won’t make it down with the damn bird on your back.
>C. She’ll be fine, right? Try and land on the tower and work your way down.
>D. Other (write in)

Sorry for the lack of posts. Life’s kinda crazy on my end at the moment.
