/qst/ - Quests

(Part One Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/2641428/#p2670574)

When we last left off, you managed to escape the Void with Oib and the cat (who Im now gonna call Salmon just so i dont have to keep saying "the cat"), and ended up falling into a new reality. Unfortunately, the crash separated you from Oib and Salmon, but you were fortunate enough to be saved by a friendly stranger, who merged the chalk you were given with your physical body (which you dont know why he did at this point). The stranger also gave you a mission: Kill the Amalgamation that rules over all of reality, and whose servants are seeping into the Plane of the Free (your current location).

What would you like to do now?
>>
>>2662828
>"Oh, silly me, I forgot to explain what I was doing. You see, you were unable to exist for long in your old form, so I simply combined your body with the chalk you had in your hand. The process was very long and complicated, so I'll spare you the details".
"Is it possible to learn this procedure, to save others from death?"
>but you were fortunate enough to be saved by a friendly stranger, who merged the chalk you were given with your physical body (which you dont know why he did at this point).
Can we still use the chalk abilities, maybe make some more pieces of chalk for others to use?
>>
>Is it possible to learn how to do "chalking"? And is you fused me with the chalk, does that mean I have the same abilities that the chalk possessed.

"Well, you could learn how to do chalking, but it would take far too long for me to teach you. I believe it took me roughly three thousand years in order to successfully perform chalking. As for the abilities it held, I honestly don't know. Every time I have done chalking, the person had completely different abilities that seemed unrelated to the original chalk."

You're slightly disappointed at the answers to your questions, and you also now get a headache when you hear the word chalk, due to how many times you've heard it at this point.

That is.

Maybe this was all according to the Amalgamation's keikaku.

>>2671651
>Every time I have done chalking, the person had completely different abilities that seemed unrelated to the original chalk."
Guess we should figure out what our abilities are then. "Is it possible to find or create more original chalks?"
>>
>How is this chalk created? And where could one find some?
The being sighs, and gets up from his chair
"Well, you definitely won't be able to make any yourself, cause that's nigh impossible, given the procedures. But, I can bring you to a site close to here that usually has chalk around this time. Let me get my things first, then we can go there".
The being (who will now be known as Tull), walks over to a large vase, holding a wide variety of staffs, swords, and strange items you've never seen before. He seems to be debating which one he should get, slightly mumbling to himself. After some time, he finally picks something out: a strange looking staff with a carved hand at the end of it, which seems to be holding a piece of chalk. The staff looks to be made out of old wood, as it looks as though it is starting to splinter.

"Oh, I didn't mean to be rude. You may take four things from the vase if you would like to. They're all incredibly useful, but I don't really use them anymore." Tull tells you, beckoning you over towards the vase. You decide to have a look and see what is inside. When you look, you see:

-A sword that looked normal at first, until you noticed the metal moving on its own
-A strange looking umbrella with strange markings on the handle
-A long, metal case that has many safety and warning labels
-A very large pickaxe that shimmers in the light
-A puffy jacket that looks very comfy
-A large book that looks to be incredibly ancient
-A desert cloak that has seen lots of use
-A rake that looks as though it would be used for a zen garden
-A pair of purple tinted goggles
-A small bag full of miniature animal figures
-An old musket with ornate carvings on it
-A board made to surf across sand
-A bottle of pills without a label
-An ornate bow that comes with no arrows
-A steel arm guard that emits a menacing aura
-And a large hiking backpack

What would you like to take?
>>
>>2671915
>the sword
>the jacket
>the rake
>the hiking backpack

My votes are in descending order of importance.

Descending order of importance like >>2671990.
-A long, metal case that has many safety and warning labels
Mystery box. Likely contains volatile or dangerous items like chemicals and explosives.
-A large book that looks to be incredibly ancient
Either a spellbook or an encyclopedia, could have info on the metal case.
-A pair of purple tinted goggles
Likely has a HUD or other sensors, important for exploring.
-And a large hiking backpack
We're going adventuring, would be great to put all that loot somewhere.

What are those limbs in the mid-right of the background? Olb and the cat?

You decide to take the sword, the book, the case, and the backpack.
"Ah, you made some good choices. It'd be best if you knew what you picked, so let me tell you".

-The Sword is in fact not a sword, but a slab of living metal that changes form based on the wielders situation. The metal can turn into anything, as long as it requires the same (or less) amount of metal. The wielder has no say in what it turns into, but it'll always be something useful.
-The case holds an ancient artifact found in the depths of this plane. When opened, the artifact will forcefully merge itself with the one who opened it, so make sure you are certain you want to open the case. As for what it does after the merge, no one knows, as no one has been brave (or stupid) enough to try opening the case
-The book contains everything involving magic and the use of it. The only issue is that every time you open the book, the spells on each page change, meaning you'll always get a random collection of spells.
-The backpack has nothing special about it, besides the fact that some basic supplies have been put into it, such as Camping supplies, a collection of tools, a supply of rations and liquid, a few minor artifacts, and a Multiversal Navigation Tool, or MNT (pronounced mint)

"Well, if you're ready to leave, we should head out now. It will take one Spin to get to our destination, so I'll bring the rake and the board along with me, so travelling will be easier. "
>Well, how will I travel?
"The living metal should be more than enough for travelling. Come, let us leave before others get a hold of the chalk".
>>
>>2674844
lets take a look at the mint

>>2671561
>Unfortunately, the crash separated you from Oib and Salmon,
"Will we be able to pick up Oib and Salmon, along the way?"
>>
You decide to try out the MNT, and see what it does. You press the screen, and it instantly lights up, displaying a highly detailed map of the world (it's even in color). From this map perspective, the world looks like a desert, except the sand is a dark shade of blue. Small towns, houses, and weird structures dot the landscape, but one area really catches your eye. It looks as if it's an extremely large structure, taking up a good amount of the map. But not only that, it seems to be moving in a straight path. But at this moment, you're more focused on finding Oib and Salmon.
>Do you think we could find Oib and Salmon on the way to our destination.
Tull turns towards you, already outside of the house.
"It's unlikely we'll be able to find your friends on the direct path to our destination, but you could see if the MNT has any info on their whereabouts"
Hearing that, you decide to try searching for them via the MNT. After some fiddling around, you manage to find a screen that asks you to put in a name. You decide to put in Oib, and hit the ok button. After a minute of loading, the MNT says it found no person that was named Oib. You tried again with Salmon this time, but nothing came up still. You begin to feel worried about your friends, thinking that the worst scenario has happened.
"Don't look so worried friend, the MNT might just need to update its info. Come, we really should leave".
You let out a worried sigh, and head out the door. Tull is already on his board, with the zen rake in hand. As soon as the rake touches the ground, it pushes the sand in a way that allows him to glide across the sand at a fast speed. Meanwhile, the living metal you have has turned into a similar looking board, albeit with some sort of pole sticking out of the end, most likely used to steer.

>Meanwhile, the living metal you have has turned into a similar looking board, albeit with some sort of pole sticking out of the end, most likely used to steer.
So like a land gondola, nice. Let's get going.
>>2674844
>a few minor artifacts,
What are these artifacts?
>>
>>2680002
The artifacts are basic tools used for incredibly basic things like telling the time, and finding out which direction you're going. The reason they're artifacts is because the way to make these tools has been lost to time.
So essentially, its a fancy looking compass and clock
>>
You get on the metal board, and try to follow Tull as he surfs across the blue desert. It takes you a minute to figure out how to use the thing, but once you do, you're flying across the landscape. To be honest, this is probably the most entertaining thing you've done in your life, just skimming across the sand at incredibly fast speeds. you finally understand why speed freaks do this kind of thing, because it's fun as hell. That fun abruptly stops, however, as the living metal suddenly transforms under your feet, causing you to careen several feet before finally slowing down. Tull, noticing this, stops and rides towards you.
"Hey, are you alright?" he asks, reaching his arm out to help you up
>>
>>2684059
i am okay take his arm and try to lift yourself up also wonder why the metal did that
>>
>I'm ok, thanks for the help
You grab his arm, and hoist yourself up from the ground, as you dust yourself off, Tull walks up to the living metal, and starts to become tense. The metal has taken the form of a weapon of some kind, though its hard to tell as some of it is embedded in the sand
>Is something wrong?
"...we're not alone..."
Tull then brings out his staff, and twists the chalk inside of it, Immediately it begins to glow a soft red color, as Tull looks around anxiously.
"Be on guard, friend. The last thing you want is for one of His servants to catch you."
>>
>>2686045
lift up the weapon and look around
>>
You walk up to the weapon, and pick it up from out of the sand. The weapon looks to be some sort of gun mixed with a cannon. You dont spend too long looking at the gun, as you focus more on trying to find the enemy. You turn your head quickly, making sure you check everywhere around you, until you finally see something. Something is burrowing under the sand, and is randomly zipping around in the sand. The pattern of its movement seems like it should be physically impossible, yet here it is. Before you think, the thing starts charging straight towards you at lightning speeds.
>>
>>2687945
its moving in a strait line to anticipate its movement then shot
>>
You aim your new cannon, and wait for the perfect moment to fire at the figure. As soon as it gets close, you fire it, hitting it directly, and launching it out of the sand. Once the enemy lands and gets back up, you get to see what is attacking you.

The enemy is a strange, paper thin abomination with strange, swirling limbs and body. It moves in unpredictable and random patterns, not once ever standing fully still. Its skin is a blinding shade of white, and its "face" consists of two eyes placed vertically on its "head". Its right arm is much bigger than any appendage on its body, and seems to be in the shape of a blade of some kind. It makes no sound, other than the sound of fabric flowing in the wind when it moves.

The cannon only lightly grazed its blade like arm, but you can see a dark blue substance coming from the wound, and dripping onto the sand. Before you can react, the being quickly charges towards you, and prepares to hit you with its blade.

>The cannon only lightly grazed its blade like arm, but you can see a dark blue substance coming from the wound, and dripping onto the sand. Before you can react, the being quickly charges towards you, and prepares to hit you with its blade.
DOODGE. Can the living metal shapeshift into a shield?
>>
Its too late for you to dodge at this point, so instead you use your cannon to block the attack. This surprisingly works, as the creatures blade crumbles like paper once it hits the cannon.
"Friend, duck!"
You quickly duck, and see a bolt fly above your head, and into the chest of the creature. The creatures head then splits open, and it releases a scream you have never heard in your life. It is incredibly high pitched, almost to the point of not being able to hear it. Meanwhile, the bolt Tull shot somehow turns back to the creature, and pierces its upper eye. Its screaming stops, as more of the blue liquid drips from the wounds.
As you watch this happen, you see that the case you brought has appeared right next to you somehow, even though you swear you put it in your backpack.

Hm... This must be a sign. Has this ever happened before? Is the creature trying to steal it?
>>
You think about how the entity might have tried to steal the case from you. Could the thing housed inside of it really be that special? What sort f power is hiding inside this metal case?
The entity, meanwhile, has slumped to the ground, slowly dying from its wounds, surrounded by a pool of its dark blue blood. A faint gurgling noise can be heard coming from it. Tull walks up to the corpse, and examines it thoroughly
"Well, good news is that it wasn't a servant of the Amalgamation. Bad news is that we are most likely in the proximity of owned land, so we should hurry before more come to defend the property".
You nod, and pick yourself up from the ground. As you do, however, you notice that the case has once again moved, this time right in from of you. It still lays on the ground, but it seems to be....facing towards you, for lack of a better term. It's almost like...the case wishes to be opened...
>>
>>2693313
pick it up and move
>>
You simply pick up the case from the ground, and put it back into your pack. As you do this, the living metal turns back into a board, allowing you and Tull to continue your journey.
(OOC: Sorry for the short post. Life kinda happened)
