Your life was changed drastically in the course of nine months; You were leading a considerable force to deal with the dryad/human rebellion in your the releam of Vorossa where the sun shines thrice each year.

All changed when your dear mother recalled you on an urgent matter; your father , King Lofarieth has been struck with the blight : a sickness exclusive to your kin. Each swathe lessens one's lifespan till naught is left. His life departed mere hours before your arrival. The burden of the throne rests on you...

...and your siblings

Vermin, ungrateful bunch. They took the first chance to leave this stricken realm under your hands. They'll return, drooling for power they do not deserve.

With your dear mother, you arranged a funeral fit for a Vorossan king. It dealt a palpable blow to the already dwindling treasury; The captial city was set alight with a hundreds of torches to challenge the skies, The great Voradii beast was slain, its flesh to fill a thousand platter. it was a must; traditions had to be held at all costs.

Envoys would trickle from neighboring realms in the following weeks. The lesser races mostly ignored the death of a great king....one who was too lenient with their kind. Perhaps his policies led to this ongoing rebellion.

The most remarkable envoy of them all was none other than Mal'laeth the fifth . A prince like you, He is the youngest son of the current high king who rules over most of the elves. Peculiar it is to see a man with little lust for the throne. Instead, he sought to strengthen the diplomatic relations of his father's subjects.

You and your mother wore the finest of your garments to welcome such an honourable guest. The queen of Vorossa shined the most during the banquet; different shades of crimson reflecting true Vorossan beauty. Your years long campaign against the rebellion sapped all the youth from your face, if one had not known better, one would think that she is your wed.

The young elf has been here before, he is knowledgeable with your traditions; he left all of the discussion after the banquet. The man did not come empty handed. His servants had a gift for you.

You too had arranged a gift for him. It was....

A true wondrous weapon of war. It has been recently introduced. While it is inaccurate and expensive to manufacture, It is devastating en masse . The era of bows and crossbow will soon fade.

The envoy brought with him a special sort of ashen seeds from a far away land. They symbolize rebirth and perhaps hope for your realm.

"Your hospitality is as gracious as ever." Mal'laeth stated "I arrived as soon as the dire news reached us. My fathers sends his condolences."

"It is... troubling. Our war The Yieopal is suffering from heavy losses. If only we haven't discovered their damnable contient." This whole ordeal sounds like a twisted nightmare.

The latest efforts of colonization had uncovered a forgotten paradise inhabited by giant primitive savages of marble and obsidian. The death of a key figure in their backwards culture sent them in an endless rage, they crossed the sea to lay siege on elven realms.

Non elves did not seem to be their primary target. In fact, with the current war, many non elves showed their true colours. Rebellions dotted the map consuming more lives and effort to quell.

It must have been a perilous journey for the young prince. You wished he could stay a tad more yet you realize the current pressing matters ahead of him. Upon his departure, you sent a small batch of royal guards with him. The last thing you desire is his death by the rebel vermin.
__________

It did not feel right to reside in your father's quarters. Of course, you are not officially the king just yet. Your siblings must arrive, one by one to settle this matter.

You stand before a giant mirror with your Sabre slashing through the air. You rarely find the chance you to use it in the battlefield; always surrounded by your most trusted men keeping you from spilling the blood of the filthy.

"Dearest of mine, do not strain yourself." Your Mother approached you, her hands brushing against your scarred cheeks " Look at you, fierce and courageous...just like your father."

"That is an overstatement, Teirell." You knew how much she hated to be called that. You couldn't call her mother, she must realize that you had grown out of her usual pampering.

"You'll make a fine, fine king. Have you decided a title? Your name is hardly sufficient by itself."

"The throne c-"

The regal blood of your ancestors runs through your veins, surrender is never an option to your ilk. You can not be downed oh so easily.

"Yes, a resounding choice." She stared at the frozen windows, the sound of scathing winds seeping through the tiniest of slits. "Dark times awaits this realm. Only you, my child, will guide our people to warmth and light..."

She gave you a gentle kiss on the cheeks, leaving you to your own devices.

Day 621 of the rebellion

The next couple of days were a bore, you were chained to your gold lined desk dealing with dozens of letters to send and orders to stamp with your royal seal. The winter continues to gnaw through your land. Each year, it grows even worse. Had it not been for the underground fungal caverns, most would have perished.

More and more problems pile up against Vorossa while parasites continues to leech from your homeland. Perhaps, a moment of respite is in order?

A company of women does not seem like a terrible idea. The other sex can provide comfort to your body. The slaves in the royal palace are carefully chosen to satisfy any desire you can dream of. Slaves are not only your viable options ; You can chose whoever you want to bed.

As for the mind ,The regal archives are brimmed with ancient tomes dating to the earliest founders of Vorossa. Your grandfather was a hoarder of knowledge wasting piles of gold on expanding the archives.

Finally, Mediation is an integral part of your culture. The circles of Leiy are ancient, sacred circles available throughout the land. It is said that one can cleanse his/her soul in those circles. True spiritual bliss is achievable though it is time consuming

Many of your ancestors sat in the palace's circle with naught but a piece of cloth covering the essentials. To outsiders, going out like that in such an unforgivable weather is madness.

They are too shortsighted, Leiy provides true warmth. It radiates from the inside...from the very core of your soul.

You stepped inside the circle, almost naked to the eyes of your silent servants. The warmth of Leiy shall cover you. Pain, suffering, cold....no more.
.

.

Many hours later, You can feel it. the pebble below your feet is warm. Your soul is cleansed.

You are at peace.

"Begging for forgiveness? " you do recognize this voice so well. Always snarky and venomous, it is your younger sister.

Hailen

You took a deep breath containing your bubbling anger. Struck with wanderlust, your youngest sister left Vorossa as soon as she could. Her travels led her to the far east where the sun blisters the land to grains of sand. The traitor bedded a filthy...

"How many human child did you put to the sword, brother? How many dryad corpse did you throw in the hearth? They are our people too."

"Parasites? Is this how you consider your own people?! You paint them as blood thirsty killers to justify your onslaught!" She almost stepped into the circle had it not been for the circle's holy guards who silently blocked her path.

"Out of my way ,runts!" She addressed you once more, " You'll regret this, Yuoegrin! "

Your mother arrived at the scene, she knew how to deal with this brat. What little peace you stored inside morphed into a sense of unease; her venturous spirit is adored by certain high class individuals plus a handful of merchants and all of the cartographer guild who benefit from her travels. Only time knows her true intent.

Day 669 of the rebellion

Your nights grow more restless as time goes one. The bitter clutches of famine draws closer and closer around Vorossa; those damn rebels seized strategic spots throughout your releam, Fungal caverns to be exact. In mere months, they had fortified their positions. The entrances to the caverns they controlled was heavily defended. Breaching will cost you heavily as well as waiting idly outside like that.

An empty stomach can drive men desperate. Protest spreads like wildfire, Merchants bellowing outrageous prices for the most basic of supplies. Your very soldiers are starting to lose morale despite their absolute superiority.

Speaking of wildfires, the wooden storehouse of Karriav has been reduced to ashes. It was one of the main source of wood for various hearths found in the center of cities and towns. Without these beacons of warmth, whole settlement would perish. What a twisted and maniacal soul...

The national economy is in shambles, prices pierce the skies with little moderation. The poorest of men are consumed with hatred and envy to those who are able to afford this crisis.

Not all news are dire however, a small town of humans has surrendered after a five months siege. They had enough food and warmth to last further beyond and yet they raised a white flag. Some fort of infighting between their ranks has led to current event. Some humans there proclaim that their sole intrest is in fact Vorossa. They even handled your men an important rebel leader who awaits you in the dungeon.

Your sister spent most of her time among her merry company of merchants and cartographers for more of her outlandish tales, never to show any concern to the ongoing crises. Another sibling of yours had arrived yesterday, Volbene , always silent and timid. Preferring the musk of old tomes to the exquisite fragrant of a woman's perfume. Much like his grandfather, he returned to the capital with a cart brimmed with books.

You had a.... neutral altitude towards him. He was frail and weak unlike you. It was clear that he had no desire for the throne. He might prove to be a valuable asset to you.

Personally recruit the humans who surrendered into helping gather firewood and some of their food stores to help the city.
>>
Your pardon was unforeseen by your advisors. If their true intent is non malicious , then they will find no trouble in their new assignments as woodcutters . Forests in Vorossa are few and far between...dozens of able men and women should provide more firewood for the nearby hearths. You are not cruel, Their elderly and infants shall remain untouched in their little own.

Nearby towns and settlements shall rejoice with a bountiful influx of food. This should sustain them for a decent time. The overall morale of the region shall rise ever so slightly for a couple of days.

A handful of the capital's elites frowned upon your act of mercy. Some veils their barbarity under a cloak of gold and silk, they were awaiting for a massacre or perhaps a new batch of slaves to purchase. None dared to raise their mouth against you...for now.

An urgent message has reached your desk by the end of the day. It was the commander of the third army, Kiletroen . A strong burly fellow whom you fought with extensively before your father's death.

"Most venerable prince,

We have finally secured Ferian and Odoslo after four months. A unfortunate fire has claimed the lives of most Dryads in these towns. Their leader, Allmother Uyuni is no were to be found, again. My intention is to trek through the ivory mountain, where most of the dryads are. An impossible task without a strengthened line of supplies and three to five new regiments of fresh soliders.

A difficult ask to be sure, yet should we capture and burn their sacred Allmother, they will all tremble before our elven might! I await good tidings."

His tactics are always too brash for your taste. Hence you commanded him and his army to march to the desolate north where the rebels pose little threat. They hold few mines here and there, not a terrible ordeal compared to other fronts.

However, his army keeps most of the long living dryads in their secluded mountains almost cut off from the rest of Vorossa. You tasked him to find the spiritual leader of the dryads. She is probably hiding in the mountains. The Allmother is a huge suspect of inciting the dryad. She must be captured.

Your soldiers are better stationed against the humans. They are the most malignant of the two. Still, The northern region of Vorossa is a barren wasteland, any settlement founded there is out of necessary. The 3rd army needs food, warmth and tools of war. You shall provide him with such necessities. The hunt for the allmother will stop for the time being.

Your mother chose the right moment to speak with you. She has planned every single word of hers, she used to do so with your father. Now it is your turn.

"Dearest, the toll of war is breaking your spirit. Why don't you share such burden with one who understands? Arlyel for an example?"

Ever since you were a child, she stalked your shadow. It was charming at first but you found no trace of affection between you two. Your mother sees her as your future wife. With the ongoing rebellion , you had little time for pleasantries.

A regal sigh escaped her lips "She has a heart of gold, claim hers before any miscreant makes more dubious advances on her."

"And? " Passionate love hasn't borrowed deep in your heart just yet. Your whole childhood solely focused on becoming the sword and the shield for Vorossa. Your dear mother fail to see your true self sometimes.

Teirell quickly dismissed your disdain on the whole matter " She will be among our guests during the hearthfire festival . Pray , do not make a fool out of me."

Day 671 of the rebellion

Increased Army Morale
Increased populace happiness

Subtle noble disdain

Your decision to supply the army has pleased your general although he wished said resources would be diverted against the real threat while the nobles had to increase the output of their workshops to meet these new demands, after all, most of the army equipment stem from these nobles. Again, none raised his voice against you. They bow in silence to carry your orders.

Your valuable guest in the dungeon has gouged one of the guards' eye with a wooden spoon in a feeble attempt to escape. He was relocated to a more secured part of the dungeon. You'll find some time to speak with the wretched thing, eventually.

As for your family, your mother keeps herself busy with formalities. She has been doing her part to keep the ire of some away from you. From that, you are grateful. Your brother wastes his life away in the archives while your sister's dalliance ignited yet another scandal when she had her way with a young human boy. Your family's image is tarnished.

The realm of Vorossa contains many noble houses, each varying in their power projection. They are the only elves allowed to mingle their blood with the regal lineage. Marriage of course is the best way to strengthen your bond with the nobles provided that rivalry does not exist between the family you chose and another one . Bribery is the most forward option, however, you'll have to shower them with gold while you coffers are shallow.

There are other means of achieving the same goal; offering them more lands seems like a decent choice. Same goes with loosening your grip on the taxes.

Slaves comes into mind; almost all of the nobles rely on slaves in one way or another. Finally, their sons and daughters can claim high ranks in your palace...regardless of how efficient they are.

>Ask the hand of one of the noble houses [Specify according to what? example power projection, monopoly on certain goods in the releam....etc]

A pricey endeavor, A caravan culling dozens of slaves from different parts of the world. Some are for the deviant pleasures of flesh, others shall serve in relentless labor across the noble's estates, It will not be cheap. Nothing is.

The news immediately dissipated any disdain from the nobles. Some even promised you to fund the war efforts further beyond. Furthermore, the houses of Veliann, Torkleq and Casuelt demanded to see personally. These three houses focus immensely on the slave trade. To them, it was nothing sort of a celebration; new and stern stocks to selectively breed for the market.

They promised you this: When the time comes, they will stand by your side. No matter what.

Your economic advisors had different sayings on the matter. They hoped the time won't come for a necessary decree to increase the taxes to overcome the impending deficit.

The dungeon below are designed to be a twisted labyrinth. Only the wardens knew how to get out in the fastest manner. Without guidance, one can easily get lost with numerous dead ends, cleverly positioned pitfalls and so on.

Your spymaster was a cunning woman who simply goes by the name of Kel , a foreigner brought from the realm of Nileth. She served your father for years unveiling political schemes against him and Vorossa. All of the releam's spies are trained by her hands.

"My prince," she bowed to you, her creamy skin went pale from extended periods underground, she almost look like a Vorossan herself.

"What do you we have here?" you asked as you two were trudging the dark pathways of the dungeon.

"A resilient one. He did not utter a word since his capture. I do realize his significance, i have halted all of my usual methods of interrogation until now. I await your command." she answered in her hoarse voice.

You two were joined by two different elves. One was his special warden while the other was the all-in-black torturer who was anticipating to work his wonders on the prisoner.

You finally reach the man, he looked like a low class peasant; scruffy and underfed. He was chained against the wall, the chains rattled in pure anger as he saw your scarred face. If this hands were free, they would have gone for your throat.

He did not. could not . Low grunts slipped from under breath. Other that those and a spiteful look, he remained silent.

>Let's start with a name, what is your name?
>Your petty body remains unharmed out of my grace, speak or i will let him break your body and spirit.
>What is it your desire, you rebellious scum? It is worth tearing Vorossa down?!

He held his tongue this whole time, his stomach was only to reply with a growl. Perhaps he will change his mind after a warm meal.

It was one of the rare occasions where decent food has been served in the dungeon. The mere smell of it could drive the men who haven't seen the sun in years mad. Your guest was secured, a platter of roasted Bilgandin was before him. Same as you.

Yet he did not no eat.

However, he flapped his gums

"Prince of elves, slaver of my kind. You can shower me with gold, anoint me as the high king himself. but i will NEVER EVER betray my land and MY HOME. Do you think we 'the lesser races' forgive so easily? your ancestors came here and reduced us to nothing! nothing! I will not rest until each and every one of you is dead."

>You are dooming us, bandit. There won't be a Vorossa for anyone when this war is done!
>So much for hospitality, your neck shall swing from the gallows tomorrow, enjoy your last meal.
>[Calmly stand up, order the warden to hold him and cut his filthy tongue with your knife]

"A favorable fate than to endure under your whoreson's feet." He actually did it, his spit made it all over to your face.

The next moments were a flurry of punches, you broke his nose and jaw, possibly fractured his thick skull and there he is smiling back at with a half opened mouth.

"Keep him alive, he'll talk someday. You know what to do, Kel." Your spymaster bowed, she stayed with the nameless human while a warden led you safety to the surface.

The wines of Vorossa are known for its sweet, sweet taste. Usually, one would drink it after a meal. You locked yourself in the royal chamber with three bottles at your disposal. How could such a man be so.... dense? Those pitiful humans, they are like dregs struggling to form something greater and more majestic than themselves. Don't they recognize the superiority of elves?

You drank more and more to forget that broken smile. A gentle knock on the door agitated you "Who is it?"

"Your brother, Volbene."

A bit weird for him to come this late. You unlocked the door for him. He looked...terribly pale. He settled on the side of your bed and didn't say a single word for minutes to follow.

" The blight .... it is claiming my body."

Your eyes widened "Are you jesting? I have no time for games." . Sure, he is frail with little muscle mass but He has none of those death-sealing sign."

"I merely...halted it progress. Ever since our father had his seventh stroke of the blight, I wanted to find a cure for our whole race. Regrettably, I have failed in my years of travels to find a definitive answer. The current methods i am using is not safe for public usage either. "

"And so our lineage shall lose another flicker of warmth. I'll do what i can to ease your las-"

"Death is not my concern. Progress is, I may have failed to find a cure but there is another dream of mine. One that can change the very shape of battlefield. I ask for your trust, bother. Trust me with gold and brilliant engineers and i will shall end this war. Our banner shall wave again, unrivaled."

"I dream of great beasts of metal and sulfur , ones that can surpass any mounted troops. Many limbs to cross any terrain like a giant spider with enough firepower to rival a fabled dragon. " To prove his point, he guided you to his room. It was entomb with endless scrolls and notes, all envisioning his Ironclad beast.

You had faith in Volbene. He promised you to deliver you results as soon as possible.

__________

Day 698 of the rebellion

Increased noble happiness
Increased army strength
Increased army morale
Progress of the Iron clad beast: In its initial stages

Subtle populace resentment
Subtle royal court disdain
The shadow of bankruptcy looms...
The shadow of famine looms....

Volbene chose a secluded area to start working on his constructs, he took the greatest minds of Vorossa with him as well as a decent force for protection. The copious amount of gold sapped is tremendous, it raised the eyebrows of your economic advisors. This deficit is causing great disturbance amongst the royal court.

It is slowly creeping through the releam. The population spoke harshly against the idea, unbeknownst to him, your brother is getting slandered by the poor and the hungry. Arrests and Flagellation aren't enough to keep their mouth shut. They call it 'Volby Folly' .

The nobles are doing their part. The Veliann family has outfitted 500 of their slaves with decent tools of war sending them (with supervision) to the fray. While the Torkleq family distributed high quality wine across different towns. Their slaves caravan should arrive at any time now.

Kel brings you more new about the prisoner, he lost an eye, an ear and three of his fingers but he still refuses to utter anything but screams. She is running out of options, it was rare to see someone perturbing your spymaster.

Your older brother , Odipuel had arrived with the 2nd army. Originally, Your father sent him to aid the high king in the war against the obsidian giants. He had freed three villages from rebel control. Well...the word free is an overstatement.

He slaughtered everyone inside.

He is soon to arrive to the capital, You didn't like him too much. As a child, he was your idol. Now, he is too unstable to be a lovable brother, let alone a king for Vorossa; always paranoid, expecting a slumbering dagger coming out of his shadow.

Today was the hearthfire festival where all the hearths are lit like a blazing star in the middle of the night.

You entered the war hall. It was messy, riddled with dusty maps and old men. All the important strategic decisions are born from here.

Your arrival had defused a heated argument between your general and his subordinates, they all bowed you. General Caleth has at least thrice your age, his veterancy has aided Vorossa throughout the years. He always took it slow and steady, the newer minds of the hall didn't seem to go along with his method.

"My prince, It is good to see you." he addresses you "You will be our tiebreaker..."

Your general showed you the most updated map. As of right now, the rebels control over 35% of Vorossa. With an exception to the ivory mountains in the north and a couple of strategic spots capable of withstanding months long sieges, the rebel forces are slowly controlling the viable borders of Vorossa. Their expansions tend to cut off the releam completely from the outside world.

"The humans have claimed Yurgul pass, the 5th army suffered a shameful defeat two days ago. We can not stand idly without a fast response."

"True, true. But i must oppose the idea of thinning the sixth army in this region. It can't sustain two regions, not in this weather."

"The 8th army is recovering...in this dire times, i suggest sending it to fill the gaps for the time being. Their sacrifice will be most valiant."

"The mercenaries of Lukendrazt are at anxiously waiting at our borders, my prince. They are like hungry hounds drooling near a butcher. A little gold here and there and they will spring into action charging from the rear." All of them suggested more solutions for you. They were waiting for a definitive answer.

>Promise the mercenaries some gold, we will pay them once the pass is safe.
>Let the Lukendrazt deal with the rebels, we will dispose of them after the pass is clear
>Stretch the 6th army, they can handle it

A better decision will be tailored with the company of your brother and Kel. You are sure of it. Your father sent Odipuel out there for a reason; ruthless as he may be, he always had this aura of command and inspiration around him. The festival should commence in a few hours...

The court had many advisors on plethora of subjects. Most are Vorossans, though some are foreigners like Kel.

The current treasury is almost devoid of any gold thanks to both the slave caravan and the Ironclad project . Soldiers , farmers and what not aren't getting paid fast enough. The ever inflating prices aren't making it any easier. Your merchants are screaming out of agony; their trade routes are cut off by rebels... the current alternatives are too costly for importation/exportation.

Your advisors had offered you different options to implement:

-Increasing the already high war taxes, though the public won't be so happy with it.

-Increasing the mining/minting workforce. It is a slow solution which will take its time to hopefully quench this financial drought.

-Loan a sum of gold from one of our neighbors. Though, the interests might bite us in the ankle in the future.

-Sell the disputed territory of Gahanel , forfiet the ancient rights of this land to the realm of Agatiin . They are willing to pay whatever it takes.

-The humans and dryads will have to pay for the sins of their rebellious counterparts; seize their possessions and add it to the war efforts

You could simply ignore all of them and spearhead a skirmish in one of the rebel's wealthiest city, Akkranel . It won't be an easy task...time is not by your side.

>Confiscate non elven properties and gold.
>Sell Gahanel, it is of little use to you
>Mine and mint more gold
>raise more war taxes
>Ask for a loan from one of your more generous neighbors

Capturing the rebel's economic boon will hinder their cancerous growth greatly. You are well aware of the risks ahead, the first royal army have seen little combat throughout these two years. Your father has didn't mobilize them in fear of an unforeseen attack on the capital. Your advisors saw few counterpoints against this plan. A month to reach the destination, few more to maintain siege/repel any reinforcements.

The second topic to discuss was the dwindling food supplies throughout Vorossa. Fungus is the main source of food alongside few crops capable to withstanding this harsh weather. Meat is often regarded as a noble's meal with the flesh of the Voradii being the most sacred and nutritious food, only slain for special occasions.

The suggestions were laid on the table, none were pleasant:

-The gentle Voradii herds will be slaughtered to satisfy the poor and the hungry. The proposal itself is sacrilegious; it will anger many religious and powerful figures in Vorossa.

-This wasn't Vorossa's first famine, An expedition will be sent north to the sea of storms where fish are aplenty. May Leiy protects those brave souls from the continuous storms.

- Blightblood is a strain of fungus rarely eaten due to its long term side effects. Its only virtue is its exceptional growth rate...if mass produced, it can sustain Vorossa for the time being.

-Purchasing food from your neighbours must be a necessity to strike the shadow of famine while you can.

What you will do?

>More gold to spend, it is the safest option
> Initiate the expedition to the sea of storms
> Allow the mass production of Blightblood fungus
>Commit a religious blasphemy in order to save Vorossa
>Keep things as it is, there is no need to change anything just yet

We cannot afford to spend more gold and we should keep the religious figureheads on our side for as long as possible.
The Blightblood, while nasty, will be there to help supplant the populace while the expedition catches the fish. And if there isn't enough fish then we already have a emergency food source to fall back on.

Nope, the fungal caverns are mostly in a special enclosed ecosystem. The fungus adapted itself to grow in specific environments.. Same goes to seaweed and shellfish; it is too cold for them to grow freely in volatile/low temperature environment.

No cost is too great.

The spirit of the hearthfire festival.... was dimmed despite the roaring fire of the ivory hearth. There were no kids running in the streets with their toys, no merry flutes and drums, no songs... nothing in the streets of the capital. The Ivory hearth was silently secured instead for you and other important figures, lavish tables were set, regal music being played to fill this horrid gloom.

Your guests wore opulent dresses and tunics with little regards for the bone crackling winter. Why would they? At this level, The hearth provides enough warmth for everyone to forsake heavier garments.

Due to the current events, few foreign guests made it to the festival. Some had sent an apology for not coming while others did not bother.

Arlyel went from one circle of guests to another, never to meet yours. The girl was too shy for a direct contact with you. You had to admit: her choice of attire was quite stunning almost rivaling your mother's.

Nothing of this blabber interests you. You briefly thanked your guest for their arrival before excusing yourself.

Your brother should arrive at any moment now, He is a powerful contender for the throne solely for his military tactics...his administrate and diplomatic skills are rather lacking. You wondered how would he react with you temporary in charge. Nothing vile, you hope. You headed for the palace main gate only to find the most outrageous scene...

Your siblings are brandishing their weapons against each other.

You did not know how this happened. Your brother is surrounded from both sides with half a dozen of his men against a squad of fifty, some of them were part of the palace's guards while others were your sister's personal guards.

"MURDER! TRAITOR! YOU WILL ANSWER FOR YOU CRIMES, BROTHER" Hailen nervously pointed her rapier at Odipuel. He raised his greatsword in the air, unphased by the number of guards against him "Showing your true colours, eh sister? I have been waiting soo long to snap that little neck of yours..."

"No one lives after threatening me with a sword. "

"I can not allow this rabid mongrel to roam freely a second longer!"

A new figure showed up in the scene, it was your mother who was rightfully horrified at what was unfolding before her eyes. She did her best to calm them down yet both were fuming with anger and hatred.

Odipuel was too paranoid to have Hailen walk about freely in fear of another murderous attempt on his life while Hailen was too hotheaded to let go of this 'War criminal', she won't rest until he is behind bars.

Bind both of their hands and bring them to a private audience chamber so we can talk with our family without looking like fools in front of the royal court. Strip their guards of their weapons and rotate out the palace guards that sided with Hailen- insubordination or circumvention of our authority militarily cannot be allowed.

First things first, the guards who betrayed your trust (even it is for the sake of a royalty) have no place in your palace. Their fate is for your general to decide.

Your brother didn't appreciate the idea of such a graceful welcome.First by Hailen then by you. He only complied solely because you had no murderous intent like your sister. Like a spoiled brat, your sister kept spouting curses with her hands tied up. Her vulgarity echoed freely in the palace.

Once again, you tried to reason with them. Even with your mother behind your back, you couldn't get them to get along. You had no choice but to put both under arrest, Each will be locked in the far end of the palace guarded by your most loyal men.

A difficult question hit the back the of your head , can you afford leaving the capital in its turbulent state? who knows what might happen while you were away....

Your brother simply can not refuse such position; his lust of warfare is never satiated. Men like him must always belong to some battlefield. However, you were worried about the wealth inside the city; he must capture it without too much collateral damage. This shall prove to be a difficult task.

Day 753 of the rebellion

Increased populace happiness
Increased army morale
Progress of the Iron clad beast: approaching halfway through

The shadow of bankruptcy looms...

The arrival of the slave caravan rejuvenated most of the noble families with fresh stocks of colourful slaves. Their gratitude was unending.

Alas, the expedition had arrived from the sea of storms. There were some unfortunate losses among the ships but the ones who returned had their cargo hold brimmed with fish. Blightblood is being disturbed all over Vorossa. The more educated refused to touch this thing. To everyone else, it was affordable food to consume.

Odipuel sprung back to action few days after the festival. He should be surrounding Akkranel as of right now.

Yurgul pass has been liberated thanks to both your brother and spymaster who baited the rebels to the open via a fake route of the already weakened 8th army. What they had thought to be free weapons and supplies to claim was actually a trap; a partition of the 2nd army had dealt with the rebels in a brutal fashion. None prisoners were taken that day.

Speaking of prisoners, your guest was found dead yesterday. His heart had finally gave out after constant torture. He was on the verge of spilling what little secrets he knew after he lost his hand to a bowl of hungry maggots.

The eldest of your siblings, Daranah , had finally arrived. All Vorossa adored your sister, she is the current Ivory saint of Leiy who sought enlightenment outside of the realm. She is a woman of few words, preferring the simplest way of living in contrast to you and your other siblings. Once your brother is finished with the siege, The true contest of the throne shall commence.

For a precious second, things are starting to look ever so slightly better. A momentary abatement from the constant churns of war.

Would it be possible to combine these two to some extent? Because if she's at the edge of the captital, it's already going to take us a long enough time just to get there even by carriage, so we can spare some time on the way seeing what the common folk have to share and so on.
Unless it means that we're not going to get the full effectiveness of either choice, which in that case I'll fully support visiting our Hermit of a sibling.

The streets of the capital were silent and gloomy. You saw fathers coping with their loses in the taverns drinking their sorrows away, mothers donned in grey in the memory of their lost sons. Indeed, this war has claimed hundreds of Vorossans...many more if the war continues. Empty stalls of once available goods were birthing agony in the hearts of their merchants. The process is slow, trading shall recover in time.

Beggars lurk in the shadows, they have multiplied since the war started. Some clinging to their tattered clothes...a reminder of better times. None dared to raise his hand for a piece of coin in our presence. Instead, they retreated further away your sight.

Your guards were all weary of someone jumping at you with a rusty dagger. Fear, woefulness and hatred radiated from the few human/dryad denizens of the capital. You heard about this, patriotic elves targeting their what little business they had. Various cases of vandalism, rape and murder had plagued every major city. Few perpetrators were actually caught.

"Your excellency?" One of your guards pointed at the little human child standing right ahead. Her frail little hand held a gentle white flower. She couldn't see you due to your wall of guards and her short stature but she knows you were there in the heart this company of swords and muskets.

>Push her aside, I got no time for this
>[Personally step out of your company, pick the flower from the little girl]
>Arrest this little vermin. She is halting royal business.

Flowers rarely bloom in Vorossa due to the harsh weather. There are some rare strains which can endure this hardship. To a young little girl, this was a valuable treasure to give away like that. Her mother (who was buying a batch of Blightblood) hurried to the scene snatching her child away; she feared punishment for her daughter.

Your guards affirmed it, There were no ambush waiting for you in these parts. You walked down other districts until sunset; You had another destination in mind: Daranah's shack.

She always preferred to distance herself from others. Her royal guards were carefully chosen to share her exact thoughts and ideas.

The ivory hearth provided little warmth at this distance. You and your men started to shiver, better make haste. A single flickering candle lit the saint's wooden shack. You found her praying to Leiy. She addressed you when it was done "Yuoegrin."

"Daranah, how long has it been?"

"11 years. Vorossa has changed. it...weeps to me, haven't you heard her cries?"

"I have been busy dealing with the death of our father, the ongoing war and our bickering siblings while everyone had left. You know nothing." It came out more bitter than you had expected but it was the truth. Vorossa would have fallen ages ago without your intervention.

"My wandering years has came to an end. The wounds of Vorossa must be healed. Leiy has spoken to me, she wants to succeed our late father. Will you stand with or against fate?"

>I am the rightful ruler. Vorossa is my burden, sister. You are willing to share this burden under my command.
>I will follow Leiy's wishes. You will have my voice.
>Religion has no place in warfare.

In a more peaceful time we would be more willing to think about such a statement. But this is a time of tribulations, our sister and her goddess will need more than "Because it is the will of the goddess" to make even the nobles lend an ear.

"It is a shame. You and Odipuel are straying from the true path. Bloodshed only breeds more bloodshed...Vorossa won't be the same under your leadership."

"Your peaceful approach will fail." you replied. You know her, she will probably make a deal with the traitorous scum to 'bring peace'. Acknowledging their legal presence in the first place is the gravest of mistakes.

"Perhaps, perhaps not." She paused, her pale hands lighting a new candle "Time will tell..."

She continued her prayers shortly after your departure. Your time with her was short, she might appeal for the religious figures in Vorossa to claim the throne and the people who adore her. However, you doubt she will use any form of trickery against you; Daranah is a woman of peace and purity. She seeks the best future for Vorossa, same as you. Your methods differs, that's all. Odipuel is favored by the common solider and most of the military commanders. he and Daranah are possibly your main obstacles to reach the throne safely . Both are terrible administratively...they won't back down like poor Volbene. Hailen poses no threat to your current plans, her supports are a nuisance at best.

Will you take the risk and allow the ancient elven rite of succession to take place or will you interfere for the sake of Vorossa?

>The rite shall take place like before with all of your siblings , the voice of the people and the nobles present. No tampering from your side.

Regicide is the only viable option. You will be the first to stain your hands with royal blood. The will of the nation will not be carried out justly, they are too unpredictable and unreliable. You might go down in the history books as a tyrant but it is a sacrifice you are willing to take for the sake of Vorossa.

You sent your most trusted men to deal with the saint. Her death went as smooth as you might have expected. She didn't offer any resistance unlike her faithful guards. It was a must to poison the murderers of your sister. No strings attached. No witnesses.

The death of your brother will be more difficult, it will take a month for his assassin to arrive at the scene. Good, it will drive suspicion away from you.

Day 814 of the rebellion

Progress of the iron clad beast: Past halfway

Decreased army strength
Decreased army morale
Glaring public outrage
The shadow of bankruptcy encroaches...
The shadow of Chaos looms...

The death of the ivory saint had sparked an outrage; holy fingers pointing and accusing you of committing the deed, protests sparking every single day. The court was clearly divided with some outright resigning from their positions. Lots of soldiers became deserters after the death of Odipuel. Your army commanders understood how things went. They continued to support you so they won't compromise the fragile stability of Vorossa.

The blightblood was sapping the health of blood your citizens. Most of the cases involved nausea and stomach ache. Few had developed the blight. The nobles were fully supportive, they did what could to ease the masses with their influences, food or gold.

These were the least of your problems.

The bastards! The insolent dogs! The traitorous orcs of Agatiin had staged a full assault against Gahanel and the surrounding territories. What they lack in modern weapons is easily substituted by their sheer numbers. Not only that, the mercenaries of Lukendrazt fight alongside their ranks! how dare they! Be it human, elf or a dryad, they will raid and pillage anything in their path. Some pockets or your army and the rebels had to fight side by side to repel the barbaric invaders. The 8th army was completely annihilated against the first wave of the orcish invasion.

She dared not to speak against the king of Vorossa. Everything was slipping away from your control. No, you will not fall. Vorossa will not fall. Vorossa will endure this crisis. By one way or another.

Kiletroen had sent you an urgent message. The Allmother of the dryads had finally descended from the ivory mountains with a formidable army. They did not attack the third army, instead, they demanded you to speak with the Allmother personally right at the base of the mountain.

It took you a while to reach the ivory mountains. You left the current affair for your spymaster because you ironically had ultimate trust in her. She won't betray you. Never. It felt ironic coming from a person who is the embodiment of trickery.

Dryads can grow in size indefinitely. Vorossan dryads are slim and nimble with dry wood with no flowers or other vegetation. The Allmother was the eldest of the dryads, she easily towered anyone standing in this barren wasteland.

"Ah, The Usurper of Vorossa. You answered my summon..." The Allmother's voice echoed freely. Her expression spoke of disappointment, may be regret.

"Out with it dryad, it didn't come all the way here for a scold. My patience runs thin."

"Very well, My demands are simple. Out of respect to the old traditions, i'll send my sons and daughter to defend what is left of Vorossa. We don't want to be part of this realm any longer. We will assist you in the future as allies ...not as another subject."

>You have my word, Allmother. This war shall end with the birth of a new nation.

The shadow of Chaos encroaches...

Financially, Vorossa was getting on her feet again. Akkranel has been captured with all of its wealth. Hope started to blossom in the battlefield as more and more human rebels fought alongside with elven brother against the new invasion. Dryads were a refreshing addition to your forces. They weren't fatigued like most of your soldiers.

You learned of your half-brother, Mondierr , a half elf bastard who was the mastermind of the resistance. Your father wasn't loyal to your mother after all. She refuses to speak with you at any occasion. How quaint, she always wanted you to claim the throne. Now she spends her days in her chamber mourning in silence...

Blightblood had manifested terribly, more blight cases are surfacing everyday. Your poor citizens were either forced to starve to death or to wither slowly by hand Blightblood.

The waves of orcs didn't stop, they have easily claimed the eastern part of your releam, inching closer and closer to the capital despite all of your men's effort to halt their rabid progress.

An attempt was carried on your life today. Three servants brandishing their hidden weapons against you. You yielded to none ; with you bare hands, you dispatched of your would-be-assassins. Two had their throat crushed, the third slit her own throat so she won't be thrown under the dubious hands of your spymaster.

The question is: How ordered them to carry the assassination? Your sister? Your mother? Perhaps that half elf bastard who somehow infiltrated deep into your palace?

>Kill your sister before she will do something foolish against you
>Your mother is avenging the deaths of her son and daughter, kill her and be done with it.

Day 929 of the rebellion
Day 164 of the orc invasion

Chaos had consumed Vorossa ...

More old enemies driven mad by your crumbling realm. They push onwards to the capital. Death has been a common occurrence, be it by the bitter winter, famine, the axes of your enemies or the gnawing blight.

Your heart grows more cold and dull, the dungeon is full with wails of agony and misery. After the death of your mother by grief, your sister had the gall to attack you with a table knife. It felt satisfying to snap her little neck, you almost grinned at the whole ordeal. Her corpse was thrown in the gutter, most likely consumed by rats, maggots and those who resorted to gnaw flesh to survive.

Your people hates you, everyone does. They are not willing to take the sacrifices necessary. It is only your burden. Those who follow your commands do so out of obligation to the throne or out of fear.

A shambling force has been spotted close to the sturdy walls of the capital. It couldn't be you any of your armies; you have lost contact with them weeks ago. They are either presumed dead or in small pockets surrounded by enemies from all sides.

No, it was your half elf brother.

Broken and desperate, he preferred to be at your mercy instead of the enemy's. His army had a lot dozens of women and children. It felt strange... he does look a lot similar like you. He too sought the throne. You would be a hypocrite to condemn his actions.

His demands were simple, provide shelter to him and the human families and he will defend the capital against the incoming hordes. In this dark times, he was seen as a beacon of hope. The odds were stacked against you.

no that was us through numerous bad decisions. If we didn't go full sultan on our family members we could have probably used the invading forces to frame our half brother for backstabbing his own people in time of need. Draining him of the support he so desperately needs, while also making our people more accepting of war taxation for the duration of the conflict. Anyway there is no point in crying over spilled milk, but let us at least finish this the way it was started and not change direction at the very end only for our greatest fears to come true like some self fulfilling prophecy
>>

And yet the rebellion started long before our reign, and almost every choice was because of our nation being torn apart by this rebellion. And us, a elven noble being thrust into the role of ruler at the worst possible time this could have happened.
I do agree that the other anons should have been smarter with either the assassinations or just simply left our siblings alone.

Well that's a great idea, it's too bad that it's come so late beyond our control to put into effect.
>Anyway there is no point in crying over spilled milk, but let us at least finish this the way it was started and not change direction at the very end only for our greatest fears to come true like some self fulfilling prophecy
I agree, let's take this tale to it's natural conclusion.

You put the bastard in a difficult spot. Will he care for the well being of 'his people' or himself instead?

The madman has actually agreed to your demands. You allowed the war ravaged humans to enter. Of course, you held no responsibility on what your starving people would be with them. A human woman by the of Naldine is the new leader of her kin, she cooperated with your general, new ranks were getting refilled with human soldiers and what not.

____________

Your spymaster had informed you three enemy encampments close to the capital, each bearing a different banner. They were racing to claim one of the last bastions of Vorossa as if they didn't had their share of raiding and pillaging.

Tension was on the rise, many resorted to pray for Leiy to end their pathetic misery. Few noble families remain in the capital. They defend what little fortune they posses from the howling masses. The messenger who was sent the other day to check on your brother was found frozen solid by one of your spies three days away from the capital. You consider what little options you had. Are they alive? dead? Is it too late to rely on the ironclad beast?

>Fortify the capital with anything possible, steel anyone who can hold a sword, await your foes.
>Abandon the capital, retreat with your 1st royal army to your brother's hidden workshop for one last stand.
> Slip away under the cover of the night with the capital's elites and their escorts, Seek refuge elsewhere. Vorossa lives and dies with its royalty. You will not fall.
>Join the fervent and the desperate in prayer. Atone for your sins

Now we could wait for our brother to show up and save our ass out of nowhere, but chances are that if our scouts have trouble getting to him, he will have trouble getting to us.

We are low on supplies so even if we decided to double up and bunker down we would soon start to death. On the other hand they might not expect a swift attack and instead await us to sit tight. We might still have a chance to break through while they still set up camp, raid valuable supplies, while starving them of theirs.
If it is sucessfull we can still hide behind our walls, only with the much needed boost to our moral.

Kel hasn't slept in days, she had poured all of her strength in serving you. She saw little benefits coming out of your sabotage; her spies will surely die among hundreds of watchful eyes across three camps. They could one watch the upcoming demise from afar. She predicted further reinforcements along the way backed by little wealth the occupied territories had.

You didn't care, results are all what mattered to you. You ordered Kel to sent her spies to their doom, for the first time, she refused to carry out your orders defending the men and women who worked under her command for years.

Kel took kindly to your words, she said that she will task her spies to identify the leaders of those armies in a more cautious approach. When the time comes, her spies might just be able to target them .

______

The fortification has started, Naldine turned out to be an expert in laying ambushes and traps, It was difficult to implement them within urban areas, not impossible though. It was a counter measure in case your outer defenses had fallen.

The first wave of orcs had arrived, less than a thousand with little siege equipment. Your soldiers dispatched them in a brutal fashion. The same wave occurred numerous times throughout the next couple of days. Your soldiers were running out of ammunition really fast. The stench of the orc corpses outside had plagued the capital, it was so nauseous and debilitating to some extent.

The mercenaries of Lukendrazt had initiated the true first stage of the siege; Monstrous cannons slowly making its way for the front lines. They are extremely heavy, inaccurate and hard to mobilize but devastating against your walls. The bombardment had started at earnest, the eastern wall is sustaining heavy damage at its base. It won't be long until they would make a breach in your defenses.

The southern wall was under different threat, the traitorous elves of Meleitn had sappers at the ready, it was difficult at shoot them down due to the protection provided by their well armed soldiers and the howling winds obscuring your foes.

>Lead a risky charge to destroy the cannons
>Focus more on the dangerous sappers
>Order your forces to retreat further inside the capital
>Give a rousing speech to your soldiers, steel their will
>Abandon the city while you are still able
>Offer your surrender to your enemies to stop this bloodshed.

The cannons while dangerious, are less of a threat than the sappers who can destroy our walls more efficiently.

Days of constant siege continues plaguing the capital. The sappers have retreated for the time being, they have lost quite a lot when you brought more men to this side. You wish you could say the same for the eastern wall, A breach had pierced your defenses.

The hordes of war-hungry orcs poured in like a a raging tempest. The first royal army alongside with the humans were slowly losing this fight.

All hope is lost.

That was, until the arrival of the iron clad beast

Towering, fierce and unstoppable constructs coming from the north, your brother had actually did it! You spotted about 50 of them trudging to your distress.

Its peculiar steel legs had fire spewing from certain slits while its dome like main body had a company men firing small cannons at the foes below. Nothing could bring this down, even if it had lost a limb or two, it could still maintain its balance.

The Meletin army was the first to route, leaving behind precious supplies. The orcs were too thick minded to surrender so easily. After they lost literal hundreds against the iron clad beast, they retreated as well.

The mercenaries failed to adjust their cannons fast enough to target this technological beauty. It was surprisingly fast and agile. They had suffered heavy losses.

The capital is safe

I'm so proud of our little bro.
I swear we really need to give him a great big hug the next time we see him.

The next few months were all about reclaiming lost territories. The war had ended with Vorossa gaining vast wealth from her enemies as reparations thanks to your brother.

His death due to the blight was the most tragic of them all. Volbene had died just a few days before seeing the fruit of his work. It was his engineers who carried out his will.

Despite all of the crimes you had committed, you remained the king of Vorossa. The people yearned for royal leadership. Of all the women you could marry, you chose Kel to be your queen. An unorthodox choice to be sure and yet you could not find any more loyal woman in the whole world like her. Poor Arlyel had settled with another man, knowing that your heart belong to another woman.

The dryads of the ivory mountain emerged from this war as a new isolationist nation, they were one of your true allies. The allmother would personally visit you each year.

Your half brother has been pardoned of his crimes, he stands by your side as a faithful advisor. Both of you had regretted tearing this country apart, especially you...you were blinded by the lust of power. You couldn't believe how dense you were.

Every year you would visit your family's crypt begging for forgiveness. Your guilt grew more and more, it was almost unbearable. Once your unborn child reach proper age, you will step down from the throne.

The slave trade has decreased immensely across the year, it is currently shunned by the public although it is not forbidden.

The high king had drove the giants across the sea back to their contient broken and defeated. He swore to wipe each and everyone of them.

The ironclad beasts stand ready to defend Vorossa for the fools who might attempt to claim it.

It would be decades later before Vorossa would witness more bloodshed...

It's been a interesting ride QM.
Say, would there be more like this in the near future? Because this has been a fairly interesting method of world building so far despite the set backs and derpage.

Well, outside of a psudo-ww1/2esque time period, where things can get even more over the top with automatics and bombsI'm a sucker for that turn of the century technology meets warfare shitstorm
Besides that the near cyberpunk future sounds neat to see, especially if we're witnessing the evolution of that tech in the cities and how it effects the world outside of what we saw in your original quest.

You should have, people made some stupid ass decisions.

Well, at the very least I appreciate realistic consequences for poor decisions. I'm sick and tired of stupid decisions getting a free pass.
