>After the Longest of long hiatus-es (what ever the plural is) I have unearthed the only mildly rotten corpse of my favorite quest ever. I believe i have finally fallen into a comfortable rhythm with my job and can QM again semi-reliably. I have Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday off and these are the days I will be able to run. I will post on my discord https://discord.gg/F3PpD36 and on my twitter https://twitter.com/CursedQm?s=09 when I am running.

You dream.

You dream of battle, of the clash of swords and shields, the song of arrows and the scent of blood and smoke. You dream of blackened armor and eyes of scarlet. You dream of a winged warrior and the lightning in his fist. You feel every wound, every howling snarl of effort as a battle between titans reshaped that ancient valley. You feel the raw flood of unknowable POWER as gauntleted fingers lock about a red hot hilt and send the first of many screaming to their end. The hissing of cooling metal and the terrified screams of a doomed army ring in your ears as you sit up, sweat causing your hair to cling to your face, chest heaving as you feel the heat on your skin for the briefest of moments.

The rune carved into your chest throbs, pulsing with a heartbeat not your own as you shake your head, using your uninjured hand to brush sweat from your brow. The Griffin Juvenile sprawls across your legs like a oversized hound, cocking its feathered head inquisitivley and warbling nervously. You push yourself to your feet, clenching and releasing your injured, your *maimed* hand, over and over. It hurts especially badly in the mornings and this is no exception, the early morning air in the Wolves Belly valley being laden with moisture and so crisp you can see your breath.

Faint rays of light are gleaming through the slats of the barn, goats bleating contentedly to one another sleepily as they much on the piled fodder in the corner of their small paddock. A curious shepherd dog noses under the barn door, retreating with a yelp as your Griffin squawks unhappily at the canine, rubbing against your leg as you absentmindedly pat it's neck and scratch under the hooked beak. You can feel that the dream was a message from Vall, the Father of Warriors being a fan of semi-prophetic dreams. Are you meant to battle on of Lady Nyx's champions? To find or make some enchanted weapon? To be immensely angry?

You're fucking getting there.

"Wish you could say what you fucking want sometime"
You grumble to nobody in particular, dipping your face into a barrel of cold water, sputtering as the icy liquid courses down your chest and back but the shock of cold invigorating you and waking you fully. The Griffin shakes its wings, squawking indignantly as you flick water at it, smirking as the beast nips at your leggings, worrying your boot with its curved, black beak. Pulling on your undershirt and soft buckskin vest you fasten them across your chest and pat the beasts head, pushing open the barn doors and nudging a dozing goat out of the way.

Time to start your day.

>To be immensely angry?
Clearly Magnus isn't as angry as Vall hoped he would be. Yet.

>Head back early and get back to the Crag
Idle hands make....fuck I don't remember the saying. Don't be a lazy fuck.
still kind of wish we could beat the shit out of those spirit creatures near the plant lady. Give us enchanted gauntlets any day.

>Make a demand of the villager who challenged you
Is this vote for the drunk father that had bief with Magnus? Didn't we already punish him or something?
>>
>>3300822
+1 although it seems like a waste of time when we could be recruiting more men for our warband or improving what we already have. Maybe if he manages to tickle us we could offer him the chance to join our weakest squad.
>>
>>3300839
Yes. Hes sobered up by now though
>>
>>3300840
Training the men, learning new techniques, or raiding sounds a little more productive then testing the metal of this guy, though seeing the vote is 2:1 It seems we'll see if he'll be worth it or not.

>Demand retribution from Yanno.

You cast your eyes over the covered table arrangement that you had stealthily joined the night before. The wedding feast was fine fare for the thralls and villagers that called this tiny hamlet home and you would have had a fine meal if the drunken logger hadnt challenged you, thinking you there to steal his child as tribute. While You had cowed the man with barely any effort on your part, your pride bristles at the thought of the man's drunken outburst and you resolve to deal with him yet again.

Sitting at the table, you amuse yourself as you wait for the villagers to wake, tossing a length of seasoned wood for the Griffin to pluck from the air and drop at your feet. Chips of wood break free every time, the wood already notched from the beasts beak. You cup your hands and take a small drink from a bucket on the side of the well and sigh as you roll your shoulder, joint cracking like snapping stone. You half turn at the smack of a wooden door opening, the leather hinges popping slightly in the cool air as Pythe steps out of his home, holding a wooden plate laden with smoked fish, hard cheese and bread. The balding man's eyes widen as he spots you at the table and he quickly ducks his head, bustling over to you and placing the tray on the table before you. The man remains quiet, watching you carefully as he takes a small clay jug and cup, pouring you out a cup of thin ale and placing it before you.

"Thought y'might want somethin' to eat. Anythin' else I can get for you?"
His voice is strained and forced, evidently fearful of angering you again.

You munch a mouthful of salted and smoked fish, bread and a hunk of dark cheese and mull the mans words over. Finally, after a large swig of the weak ale you nod, wiping your mouth with the back of a large hand.
"Aye. You can. Bring Yanno to me. He insulted me while drunk, I'll have words with him sober"

Pythe blinks quickly, his bushy eyebrows nearly reaching his hairline, the mans lined face paling as he absorbs your words.
"Sir... Sir... Tha-that won't be necessary sir he's... Hes learned his lesson. He was drunk sir! I'll speak with hi-"

He cuts off with a wide eyed stare as you swivel your head to focus on him fully.
"I didnt ask what you were going to do thrall. I told you to bring him to me. Do it. Now"
Your voice rumbles out like a landslide and the village leader swallows heavily, nodding slightly as he bows away, bustling off to one of the shabbier huts on the edge of the village. While he fetches the unfortunate logger, you continue your meal and ponder how you will deal with the man.

>challenge him to a fight.

>Press him into service.

>Take his son.

I like where this is going. Play him on like we're gonna do something terrible, then play it out as an arm wrestling challenge. Be beat us with 1 finger? We'll reserve him some booze on our next raid. He loses? He gets a plate of some fish for birb. Food's not gonna be much of an issue anyways soon enough.
>>
>>3301119
Ditto
>>
>>3301509
Maybe even make him toss the bits of fish to the pup. The man will either find it cool he's feeding suck a dangerous creature, or be really afraid for his fingers. Probably the latter.
>>
>>3301119
>>3301074
how do we go down these roads?

Let him wrestle us, and make him do that shit. regardless of the outcome, offer him the choice to come on the next raid, for risk, for reward, it will be his choice, and his consequences. If he wants to come, he needs to visit barbas for a tune up.

Nice.

Should we really consider taking the man in and this investment? Having strong folk down here is a boon in on it's own way, and the man isn't young enough to be easily molded into a warrior.

Note to self: make sure we capture more children and live captives on each raid. More skilled under our leadership = more thralls and less dead followers.
>>
>>3301641
This is a good point. Any time spent down here faffing about is time that could be spent training with our men, testing our strength, or improving our own skills.

Rolled 19 + 10 (1d100 + 10)

>Arm wrestling.

You pick at the meal, the simple fare doing plenty to sate your hunger as you watch Pythe slowly make his way to the loggers house. The village head looks back at you from the doorstep and you nod, jerking your head to direct him. You can see the curved hawing axe embedded in a log in front of Yanno's home and halfheartedly hope Pythe doesn't end up hewn.

With a resigned slouch, he knocks on the door several times, calling Yanno's name. Eventually the burly logger opens the door, rubbing his eyes with the heel of his hand and cursing. Pythe's voice is soft but his words wake the man instantly, the logger peering over at you and his normally sour features darkening instantly as you wave with a strip of dried fish. His eyes definitely cut towards the hawing axe but the bull necked man simply cracks his knuckles and slowly strides over to you. As the wind shifts You get the idea Yanno is a habitual drinker, the odor of strong ale heavy on the man as he crosses his arms on the opposite side of the benchlike table, remaining standing.
"Pythe says y'ask'd fer me? What can I do fer ya.... *m'lord*"
He draws out the final sylables, obvious sarcasm coloring his dull and slightly slurring speech.

You gesture for him to sit and work the fingers of your good hand, joint cracking with each fist you make. You finally speak as the man refuses to sit.
"You challenged me last night. Drunk and stupid as you were, you challenged me. A drunken thrall snapping at a War Leader. Doesn't look good here and lessons have to be learned."

Yanno's face turns as red as a beet as a vein sticks from his forehead, opening his mouth to bellow out.
"Now lis-"

Your cold eyes fix on his, stopping his words in his throat as your voice drops to that of some tundra predator.
"Normally id kill you. Beat you to death, Use that axe of yours to chop your body to pieces, fuck your wife in a pool of your blood and then throw your son over my shoulder and give him to Barbas as a gift."

Pythe and Yanno have both paled severely, the loggers temper cowed with the very real threat of gruesome violence. You sip your ale and continue.
"But im giving you a chance. Pit your strength against mine, lock arms on this table and see if you are strong enough to defend your family. If You win....I may have some use for you."

Yanno wipes spittle from his lips before he curses and shoves Pythe away, settling into his seat and offering one large, scarred and sap stained hand, his blackened nails jagged and cracked. The grimy brute grits his browned teeth and grunts angrily as you bring up your good hand, locking your grip with his so tightly his fingers pale.

You smile at the burly logger, your expression lacking any warmth and failing to reach your eyes. Yanno grimaces as veins as thick as fat worms stick out in his forearms, coils of muscle bunching and twitching as he glowers at you.

"Thinkin' you'll best me as easy as y'did before? We'll see 'bout that now!"
He growls at you as he pushes against your arm. You have to admit, the logger is strong, recently woken and hungover as he is, he puts forth a valiant effort against you. You pace yourself, allowing him to push your arm back one inch, another, drifting slowly back towards the table as he grits his teeth so hard they nearly shatter, spittle flying out as he grunts and snarls like a beast. Pythe watches with a tight lipped expression, his arms crossed and chewing his cheek like a chunk of jerky. Yanno's eyes widen as your arm nears the table, victory being within grasp and you decide the charade has gone far enough.

"My turn"
You state calmly, slowly cranking up the pressure of your grip and the tension in your arm. Yanno's advance stops short, slowly being pushed back as his face takes on a pained expression as bone grinds against bone in his soon to be crushed hand as you inexorably ratchet his arm back. His face turns red, then crimson, then purple as he strains as hard as he can, veins standing like snakes under his skin and rivulets of sweat pouring down his forehead as you wink cheekily, slamming his hand into the table with such force it strips skin from the back of his callous knuckles.

Pythe curses softly and Yanno gapes incredulously, gasping and drenched with sweat as you remain calm, grinding the loggers hand into the table idly as he pants. You take a swallow of your ale and shrug
"Seems I win"
