>You are Princess Zelda, heir to the fallen throne of Hyrule

>Your father, corrupted by Power, died in a coup, your Kingdom shattered in a civil war 10 years ago, the Hero in Green giving his life to ensure you escaped the conflict

>An uneasy peace has returned to the land, but omens of a descent into greater chaos than before loom on the horizon

>You, Zelda Hyrule, have the potential to claim your birthright and restore the Kingdom to what it once was, bring back true peace to the lands. Your path ahead is not set in stone; you must chisel it in yourself. What kind of Legend will you create?

With everything gathered, you all make your way back to the main area, Samiel leading the way. The knight takes notice of some toppled stones and broken tiles that were definitely not there before. Worse, there seem to be a few Chuchus lurking up the stairs. Which means there is probably another mass that impacted the Temple somewhere nearby. Just your luck.

“What do you say, T? Clear ‘em all out, or just keep pushing forward?” Aveli questions.

>A. The more monsters we let lurk in the background, the worse the situation can get, clear them out
>B. Best we do not keep stalling for every monster we come across, we should head forward, quickly

“The more monsters we let lurk in the background, the worse the situation can get. We should clear them our as quickly as possible.” you reply, looking to Samiel. “We will keep your home safe.”

The knight gives a nod, drawing his blade, starting to charge energy around it. Everyone else prepares themselves, weapons out as the Chuchus notice you all. Three on the stairs, two seeming to come from the north-east underside of the floating island, and another three off to the east, seemingly on “patrol” around the area. All of them of various colors.

Samiel thrusts his sword forward, felling one of the Chuchus immediately, giving you time to enchant one of your bombs with Ice Magic. Sheik, noticing what you’re doing, moves to try and corral some of the monsters closer together, damaging a few of them though getting a bit of a shock from a blue one’s electricity. Aveli and Horon do the same, Aveli cornering the ones to the east that Sheik is near to keep them together as Horon throws a few fireballs up at the ones on the staircase, keeping them from moving up. One of the Chuchus does manage to hit Aveli, but it doesn’t do too much damage. Still, all this lets you get things ready!

You fling the first bomb at the monsters on the staircase, freezing them in place, though you’re close enough that some of the frost that spreads across the ground gets under your foot, causing you to slip and fall, with one of the pair of Chuchus sliding down the frost and smacking into you, still frozen, but hitting rather hard. Ow. You quickly get back up and have the second bomb ready, flinging it towards the second group, leading underneath the island. Your bomb actually rolls a little before detonating, the frigid explosion seemingly getting something else in addition to the two Chuchus. The third and final bomb is flung out, but one of the Chuchus leap up and smashes into it, unintentionally sparing the others as it freezes up and hits the ground, cracking as it does.

“Termina!” Lynna calls out to you, giving you something to recover your Magic with. Aha! Back at full, you get in the middle of all the monsters, telling everyone to stand back. You finally cast Din’s Fire, flames erupting from around you and finishing off some of the frozen monsters.

You draw your swords, Samiel moving towards the edge of the island as you rush the remaining two Chuchus. One manages to leap at you and smack you in the arm as you try to slash at it, though your other blade stabs through the creature, felling it at last. A quick thrust at the remaining one brings it down, the creature popping and disappearing into black mists.

[Hearts: 6.5/11]

Samiel meanwhile brings out a Hookshot and, with one strong fling of his arm, brings the mass up to the island’s surface, now clearly a damaged but still coherent bunch of Chuchus all meshed together. The force of the impact causes them to start to break apart, Sheik moving in to keep them from heading to you, though one stumbles into her and knocks her back. She stabs through it and brings it down, Horon and Aveli moving in and hacking away at some of the monsters that fall from the mass, letting Sheik get away from it.

Samiel flicks his wrist, and sparks start to surround his blade. He motions for you all to move back, building up Magical energy around his sword. Once you’re all clear, he slashes out with a Sword Beam that hits the Chuchus and seems to chain through them, electricity sparking through the mass and felling it all at once. The monsters are finally dealt with.

You look through the remains of the monsters now that you’ve got a moment to collect yourself, motioning for everyone to do the same. You do manage to gather enough materials to restore your Magic, but only a little bit of health. You do get a spare bomb back, and your crossbow bolts restocked, at least. And some Rupees, for good measure.

As your allies gather what spoils they can, you move to Samiel, looking over the Knight’s sword curiously. “You have shown these functions before, but the enchantment still intrigues me. Is it something innate with your sword, Sir, or something you yourself are capable of?”

The Knight looks down at his blade, free hand pointing to it, but then to the vambrace, patting it. He then pats his breastplate, and even helmet. So… it is something his armor is capable of? The curious expression on your face brings Samiel to try to get Sheik’s attention, the Sheikah girl quickly moving to you both. Samiel writes in her palm, and Sheik speaks for him after a moment, “The enchantment is something the Wind Tribe developed long ago, spread across the armor Samiel wears, though requiring both skill in usage of the magic applied to it and… ‘activated’ through armor and blade.”

“So it is not something we can learn, then…” you comment, frowning slightly.

Samiel writes again, to your surprise. Sheik says, “Not entirely, though it is not something easy to learn.”

Ah, well, something that might prove useful then. With everyone settled, Samiel leads you all up the stairs, to a second main area of the temple. A circular amphitheater structure with columns surrounding it and a building flanked by statues of birds… one of them toppled over, with strange, husk-like remnants of… something strewn about it. You also hear movement from around the area, quite a lot of it.

And just for good measure, a flash of lightning streaks across the sky, rolling thunder coming after it. They’re still at it? You aren’t sure you like this.

You ask for Lynna go bring out the map, the young woman holding up the tablet it is stored on and looking it over, all your allies save Samiel gathering around. You see that there are several turret towers around the area, but they seem to be leading into structures below. There are also two circular temple-like structures that also lead into other areas, though the map doesn’t specify what they are, exactly. Lastly, there is the main, final temple structure that you assume is where the Thunderbird resides.

“Perhaps we could have a fairy to scout some of these areas…” you comment aloud, about to call one yourself.

“I’ll be able to scout.” Felicia, Horon’s fairy companion, calls out to you all. “I’m sure you can keep this guy from doing anything too risky at this point.” Horon pouts at her for that, causing her to giggle. “Teasing~”

You send a fairy out yourself, the two heading in separate directions east and west to scout. As they head off, you approach the husks, Samiel keeping close watch over them. Hrmn. Some of them look like… monsters that have been drained, then desiccated, by some very violent force. And… there is a different, more developed husk, that looks much closer to the one the Komaytos shed. You notice that past the toppled statue there are claw marks of some sort scurrying up the wall. You and Samiel look at one another. Even if the Knight can’t say anything, you can tell from body language alone that he does not like the signs of this.

Finally, you take notice of the sounds you heard before, keeping yourself hidden behind a pillar. And… Pirates. Some wearing armors with different tints to them, a dozen moving west as if on patrol. You even notice… some Aeralfos? Did they make it through?

Lastly, Samiel pats you on the shoulder, then points to some structure that is near a turret tower. You aren’t entirely sure what it is, and only get more confused when it seems to sink beneath the floating island you all are on. Samiel then slowly, deliberately, writes with his finger into the stone pillar you are hiding behind. The word being… “ship.” Another flash of lighting and roll of thunder, striking something further away.

>A. We should go after the Pirates!
>B. Better we go in the opposite direction, especially if they have Aeralfos helping to guard them

“We should keep away from them. At least until we have a clearer advantage, especially with those Aeralfos.” you tell everyone else quietly. “Plus… I do not like the sign here.” you motion to the claw marks on the wall. With collective nods, you move onward, passing by the desiccated remains once more and heading east. You see the two turret towers and the temple structure, barriers around their doors.

Felicia returns to Horon, explaining what she could find in a bit of a panic. “Th-there was this huge, ugly, horrid monster that crawled into this hole underneath one of those towers!” the fairy exclaims. “It had large, spindly claws, yet could float like a jellyfish in the ocean!”

Samiel’s fist clenches tight. Horon crosses his arms. “Where did it go, specifically?” the boy asks.

“U-under that tower, last I saw!” the fairy shakily replies, motioning at the further tower.

Sheik gives the Knight a glance. “Sir Samiel, where do these towers go, exactly?” The Knight writes on her palm in response, Sheik nodding at first, but then giving a confused look. “…Trials?”

“Wait, what was that?” Aveli asks.

“They… are meant to be the main test, so to speak. Each one meant to correspond to a certain kind of trial.” Sheik explains further.

“Would this mean the monster could interfere with the trials?” Lynna asks.

Samiel… rubs the back of his neck, not entirely sure. He gives a reply, Sheik speaking for him once more, “The trials shouldn’t be something normally one can… disrupt. But that creature is not a normal circumstance.”

>A. Then we head into the one the monster is invading, just to be safe!
>B. Best that we try the other one, then. We have no idea what it is capable of, and rushing in might put us all in unnecessary danger

Determination in your eyes, you declare, “Then we go after this monster, just to be safe. We may not know exactly what its goal is, but it is clearly not something we can simply wait on.”

Samiel nods, taking the lead once more and firing a Sword beam at the barrier, the door sliding open. All of you head in, moving down a spiraling staircase and ending up in what looks like a strange, spiraling corridor… that twists in a similar spiral shape. You start to walk along it, expecting to stay to the bottom, but instead you feel yourself pulled along the “path” that spirals around, as if gravity itself were following the spiral. This makes Horon and Lynna especially uneasy, Aveli trying to move across the wall, only to slide back down to where the path lays. Sheik and Samiel keep their calm, though even the Sheikah girl seems cautious about this. You reach another door, perpendicular to the staircase, Samiel opening it as you all head inside.

https://youtu.be/I61PF4cFnWU

The interior is not at all what you were expecting. You enter into a temple ground with what appears to be the night sky above it, though the sky looks nothing like what you are used to. The stream of stars once commonly visible at night replaced with what looks like a swirling whirlpool of them. The… view is strangely beautiful, if quite alien. Still, you move forward, seeing a statue closer to the center of the open temple, similar to the ones with avian armor you had seen before. Samiel actually lets you take the lead this time, merely keeping watch for the lurking monster.

As you approach the center of the temple, runes light up all around it, the statue in the center having lines of light travel up through it. Its eyes flash with a bright glow of blue, and to the surprise of you and most of your allies, it speaks. “YOU WHO WALK THE PATH OF STRENGTH. SHOW YOUR MIGHT IS WORTHY OF A HERO’S.”

A massive stone pillar falls from seemingly nowhere above the statue, as it moves to catch it, holding the pillar above its head like a staff. Though, to your shock, even Samiel letting out a gasping grunt, there is something else on the pillar. A creature with spindly legs and strange carapace over a jellyfish-like body. The evolved komayto!

The monster beings to chitter and hiss, stabbing its spindly limbs into the pillar and starting to move closer to the statue, which doesn’t completely seem to pay attention to it. The statue swings the pillar around, then speaks again. “WHO AMONG YOU WALKS THE PATH OF STRENGTH? WHO AMONG YOU SHALL SHOW THE STRENGTH OF A HERO?”

Samiel moves forward, blade charging with Magical energy. He looks back to all of you, and you can swear you see the Knight’s mouth try to move, but only wordless breaths escape. He seems to silently mutter a curse. Aveli heads closer, Biggoron’s Sword raised high. “Hey statue guy, you’ve got a bit of a bug problem!”

“DO YOU WALK THE PATH OF STRENGTH?” it asks, continuing to swing the pillar around as the monster tries to move closer across it.

“Aveli, it seems you should be the one to complete this trial! Let us handle the monster!” you tell the Gerudo girl. Lynna stays back a bit as Horon and Sheik move by your side, Samiel ready as frigid air flows from his charging blade.

“If you’re sure, T!” she replies, Biggoron’s Sword pointed at the statue. The statue stops swinging and points the pillar at her in response, the monster managing to hold on still and trying to move closer to the statue.

You get an idea as you see it try to move closer. Calling one of the fairies you still have, you suggest to her adding an Ice enchantment to the Fairy Missile. While not entirely sure it’s the best idea, she’s willing to give it a try. But, where to target…?

“Samiel, does it have some kind of weak point?” you question. The Knight nods, patting the armor on his stomach. “The belly, got it! Okay, together!” you call out, readying your Hookshot. It manages to latch on to one of the monster’s spindly legs, tugging and pulling it. “NOW!” you yell out, Samiel’s charged blade firing off a Sword Beam at it, you combining the Fairy Missile with Ice and commanding the fairy at the creature! The initial blast hits, and the fairy missile strikes true!

[Magic: 3/5]

A ferocious shriek echoes through the area as it’s finally yanked off the pillar, Sheik leaping up over it as it tumbles across the ground, Horon flinging fireballs at its legs to try and keep it from moving. The monster is intensely infuriated by that… and takes into the air, floating like the deranged bastard of crustacean and jellyfish. And… then electricity starts to charge around the three pronged maw around its mouth.

Aveli meanwhile ends up catching the pillar as the statue tries to push her with it. It seems like it’s trying to force her out of the circular inner area. She’s holding her own decently well, but the statue does have surprising strength behind it.

First, you throw a Deku Nut at the monster, managing to blind it, though not preventing it from continuing its charge. You enchant your Crossbow and aim right for the maw, unleashing volleys towards the beast’s innards, some striking true and leaving frost INSIDE the monster. Still, the charge continues to build. Trying to think quickly, you bring out your shield and fling it at the monster, Samiel running at the monster and leaping up at it, stabbing into its gut right as you fling your shield.

A crack of thunder and flash of light, lightning hits the shield, which manages to draw the blast of electricity to it, but isn’t able to shield it completely. The sparks that crash against it shock Samiel before the Knight can release a Sword Beam into the monster, while the shield itself is flung right back at you, knocking you in the gut and forcing you down. Thankfully this prevents the lightning bolt itself from targeting you, though still does some damage.

It then attempts to rush you, charging its body. You roll out of the way of the floating beast, it screeching as it lunges, spindly limbs digging into the dirt and avoiding Horon’s fireballs as he tries to attack it. Aveli is thankfully doing quite well for herself, starting to push the statue back, almost getting it out of the arena.

The monster notices the statue again, and looks like it’s about to lunge at it. Not any of you, but the statue itself!

With the Hookshot out once more, you fire it at the monster and give a fierce tug as it starts to retract. As it tries to keep its footing as it’s pulled back, and you get a flash of inspiration, and bring out your lantern, emptying the oil of it onto the monster. It slips up as the oil covers it and drips down, the spindly legs falling and the body sliding across the ground… though as it’s pulled back some of the oil spills below you, causing you to slip as the monster slides into you, knocking you down.

[Hearts: 6.5/11]
[Lantern Oil: Empty]

It takes to the air to try and keep the oil-covered limbs from slipping again, Samiel strikes its underside with a frigid Sword Beam, making some of the oil collect on the frost that forms. You then look to Horon, calling out, “Burn it!” The both of you fling fireballs at the monster, igniting the oil on its body and causing the frost to shatter from the sudden temperature increase. It howls out in pain, floating up further… STILL somehow not down. Aveli meanwhile is trying to push the statue off, having gotten it to the edge, but only just. You call out and cheer to her, “Come on Aveli! I’ve seen you first hand, I know you have the strength to beat it!”

[Magic: 1/5]

“Al… almost… ggrraaaahhh!” the Gerudo girl pushes hard as the statue digs its heels into the stony ground. And the monster… looks at it, then at all of you, before letting out another hiss… floating up higher. What’s it planning now?

“OH NO YOU DON’T!” you yell out, firing the Hookshot up one last time. It catches on to the monster, though it’s pulling hard enough that it starts to instead lift you up off the ground, you having to brace yourself and pull back like you’re reeling in a fish. “AVELI! THROW THE PILLAR AT IT!” you yell, just holding on long enough for Lynna to come to your side and use her own Hookshot to hold it down with you, the pair of Hookshots keeping it in place.

The Gerudo girl looks at you with surprise, but then grins wildly. “Now you’re speakin’ my language, T!” She actually gives the pillar a pull, hard and swift enough that the statue is pulled with. Aveli then lifts the pillar up, and with all her might gives it a thrust that crashes both statue and pillar into the monster! It is finally pulled down to the ground. It starts to build up an electric charge again, you moving back and letting out another volley of Ice-enhanced Crossbow Bolts at its face. Sheik throws some needles at it as well, the combination of damage you dealt with the bolts and the metal of the needles starting to short the electric charge, the monster shocking itself.

[Magic: 0/5]
[Bolts: 84/90]

As it attempts to stand, Samiel rushes in, actually tackling it and hitting like a bolt of lightning himself. It lifts into the air and makes one final attempt to attack the Knight, but Samiel delivers a final thrust to its underside, firing a Sword Beam through it at last. The monster finally, finally felled. Samiel lets out a long, pained sigh as he flings it down.

“YOU HAVE SHOWN YOU POSSESS THE STRENGTH WORTHY OF A HERO.” the statue, having landed quite a ways away, with the pillar beside it.

The statue makes its way back to you all, glowing eyes locked on Aveli. “THAT YOU HAVE THIS KIND OF POTENTIAL PROVES YOU ARE CAPABLE OF STANDING BEFORE THE ONES WHO POSSESS [POWER].” it speaks to the Gerudo girl, finally kneeling down, splaying its hands. A shimmering, ethereal image of gauntlets appear between them, rotating slowly, surrounded by magical light.

Aveli approaches the ethereal gloves slowly, then looks back to you all. “…So, I just take ‘em?” she questions Samiel. The Knight nods, and so she takes hold. The illusory gloves seem to vanish for a moment, then reappear around her, seemingly modifying the Power Gloves she was wearing before.

[Aveli obtained POWER BREAKER!]

She looks over the slightly shimmering gloves, the statue then motioning to the pillar as a doorway opens up in… well, what looks like the sky. But positioned in a way that Aveli might be able to move the pillar up to provide a walkway for everyone.

You first check over the monster’s corpse with Sheik and Samiel, finding, thankfully, some stuff to recover your health and Magic, just a bit. And some Rupees, to top it all off.

[Hearts: 7.5/11]
[Magic: 3/5]
[Rupees: 231]

Samiel and Sheik likewise recover a bit, and as they do, you think to ask, “Samiel, do the other areas grant similar boons?” The Knight nods, though keeps his focus on the monster. “…Might there be more of these creatures still out there?” Samiel lets out a loud, pained sigh, then gives another nod. You sigh softly as well, smiling though. “Should have expected that answer.” Samiel chuckles.

With that done, everyone heads to Aveli, who herself is getting closer to the pillar. “So, that all?” Horon questions. “Just looks like he gave you new gauntlets… are they even new?” he adds, skeptically.

“I… it’s strange. There’s something different about them, but also about… me, I guess.” She takes her helmet off to inspect them closer.

“Is it innate, or something that has been applied to the gloves? Or is it like how Samiel described his armor?” You motion at the Knight.

“The latter, definitely. I think I get it now. I mean…” She removes one of the gloves. “I can still take them off, but I don’t think others might be able to do this with ‘em.” The glove back on, the Gerudo girl lifts the massive pillar with ease, setting it like a ramp to the open doorway. “So, we gonna keep sitting around or we gonna get out of here?” She turns back and waves. “Hey thanks statue guy! I’ll put these to good use, promise!”

You move through the doorway, and find yourself at the top of the turret tower, with the doorway closing behind you all. There seem to be some of the Pirates in the distance, still on patrol, though some other monsters are roaming the area now too. A crack of thunder alerts you all to yet more creatures trying to invade. But that’s not all. Another flash if lightning and crack of thunder echoes far closer, striking the monsters nearest to you. Some of those further away move faster, floating orbs with a singular eyeball in the center of their bodies, trying to cover as much ground as possible to make up for the ones that were struck down.

Lynna gulps. “Well, that’s not a good sign.”

“We should try to avoid the monsters as best we can, for the time being.” Sheik adds in.

You make it down the tower, commenting to your allies, “We should try to keep focus on the Pirates’ ship, see if it is still in the area. I have a suspicion that it is.” You try to sneak around, keeping your eyes open for the ship. You catch glimpse of something move below the island again, too quickly for you to catch up. A couple of the Pirates on the ship laugh mockingly at you, noticing your group fail to catch them.

Samiel manages to hit one with a well-timed Sword Beam, knocking it off the mast and sending it plummeting to the earth below. The other takes the hint and gets down before it can be struck either.

“Oh you cowards!” Horon exclaims in annoyance. “Get your butts back here!” His shouting catches the attention of the monsters that were on patrol, the ocular creatures moving on your position. Aveli glances at him in annoyance, putting her helmet back on. “…Ah. Whoops.”

You quickly fling out a Deku Nut to blind the group of monsters, drawing your swords and getting ready to slash through them, getting in a lucky hit on one… though to your surprise, the second one manages to dodge, moving back as it seems to notice the first one hit. Samiel stabs through it, rushing to your side, Sheik helping fell it.

You manage to slash through another one’s eye as it opens, though you end up getting struck by another, it letting out a blast of magical energy from its eye. And as you’re struck by that one, you are hit by another, it ramming its body into you and knocking you down. Horon manages to keep it off you, Aveli dashing through and picking you up. These are getting to be annoying, and the sound of combat seems to have alerted others. But… idea! “Corral them and then start heading to the next turret tower!”

Aveli, Horon, and Sheik corner the group with Samiel, Lynna already moving there, when you crouch down. They’re around you. Perfect. You quickly ready a bomb and roll under the monsters, leaving the bomb behind. The explosion erupts through them, felling the beasts… and kinda catching you a bit, knocking you face-forward as you try to stand. Owww.

“Does anyone else need healing first?” you ask, looking around. “Lynna, you should-”

“I could use some, but only after you, Termina.” Sheik states adamantly.

“Sit still.” Lynna tells you, placing her hands forward. A soft, calm, warm glow flows from her to you, healing your wounds a bit. “There. Sheik, you get next, promise.”

[Hearts: 8.5/11]

“Understood.” the Sheikah girl gives a nod, Lynna grabbing some leftover Magical materials, then doing the same for your ally. With that set, you continue down the staircase. The room leading from it is much like the one prior, with the same spiraling hallway. As you enter this one, though, you find that it leads to a strange, almost arena-like area. And strangely, you see two figures inside already… arguing.

“OOOOHHH! DANG IT DANG IT DANG IT!” one of the figures, some… purple person in a purple set of robes, with a staff carrying some sort of… is that an eggplant? “ONE MORE! ONE MORE!”

“You have a losing streak of 50. Give it a rest.” the other figure replies… looking like the Angel that greeted you, though with slightly different build and wearing armor. “You are no tactician. You are boring.”

“I’LL SHOW YOU BOR-” The… wizard? Wizard. You’re guessing it is some sort of wizard. It notices your lot, at first looking at you all with apprehension and a slight tinge of dread, though then gaining a menacing smirk. “…Well. Seems you have a new set of challengers, angel. How about we make this… a bit more interesting?” the wizard asks with a nasty grin.

You glance at the two with intense confusion. They’re both on raised platforms, what looks like an arena with ethereal, wispy forms spread through the area, slowly disappearing into the air. It… seems like some form of arena, though the scale of it is off slightly. The wizard laughs, “So, you interlopers finally reach here. Guess you’re no chumps after all.” He yells out over to the other figure. “You! Angel face! You think you can take on two challengers at once?”

“Pardon me?” you exclaim.

“You intend to rely on help to claim victory?” the armored angel questions, glancing in your direction. “They do not seem to be allies of yours.”

“Whaaat, you scaaaaared, angel face?! Hahaha! Lose your bluster when you have more of a challenge?”

You blink and shake your head. “What? Who are you? What IS this?”

“This is a trial set for those who have the potential to lead.” the armored angel replies. “So far, this fool has been attempting to demonstrate such a thing, and has failed every attempt. Who among you believes they have the ability to lead?”

Everyone looks in your direction, even Samiel giving a brief side-glance. The wizard laughs. “THIS little pipsqueak? Hah! Well I GUESS I could be nice and help you out, kid.” He then looks to Samiel, gulping at first, his hands shaking, trying to keep his cool. He taps at the platform he’s on, then sighs in relief.

The angel seems to look towards Samiel first, in apparent recognition, who points his blade at the wizard. “Can’t yet.” he tells the Knight. “You know the rules.” Samiel grunts at him, the angel turning his attention to you at last. “You, girl, you think you have the ability to lead?”

You cross your arms and exclaim, “All right, all right, hold on! I need more of an explanation here first! What exactly does this entail?” you question.

The angel crosses his arms. “This is a test of one’s ability to lead during the heat of battle. If you believe you have the ability to lead,” he motions to another platform, which glows slightly, “Head up and make your attempt.”

“How, exactly? Do I order around statues of some sort, or… do I call upon my allies?” you look back to everyone else.

“The trial is only for those who have the potential to lead. You will be given a force to command, and either wipe out your foes, or reach the opposing commander.” the angel states. “Manage such a thing, and your skill at leadership shall be recognized. The forces you command may move all at once, or however many you choose on your turn. Position them wisely, for if a foe reaches the tower you command from, you lose.”

“And I would assume these platforms have some form of barrier, to prevent foul play?” you ask.

“Indeed, so none of you try any funny business!” the wizard calls out in a tone that implies he might try exactly that, while still looking at Samiel accusingly.

“What you mean by ‘making this a bit more interesting’ earlier?” you retort, narrowing your eyes.

He looks over your allies, smirking for a moment, before regaining composure. “Well, angel face is so confident in HIS ability to lead, but that confidence might fade should he have to face two forces at once. But if you are scared, little girl-”

“Enough.” the angel declares. “Will you accept the trial or not? I am more than ready to begin.”

…Well, Zelda, guess you’ve got to get this over with quickly. “Then I shall not delay. I shall complete this trial.” You start to ascend the platform, and once you are on top, you see stony, ethereal figures form below you. Five of them, four… showing vague features of your allies, while the last seems to resemble you ever so slightly. Another set appear below the wizard, all of them… resembling eggplants. O…kay. And under the angel, a set in armors that resemble his own.

“Give ‘em hell, T!” Aveli shouts out. Samiel keeps his gaze locked on the wizard, though gives you an approving nod right before. So. A test of leadership. You see the pieces are 10 paces away from one another. You have to either reach an enemy tower, or wipe out an opposing force. How will you do this?

Mmmh. This kinda seems like it's a version of Risk.

> When the battle rages between two players one should put every ounce of power in the offense, but when several players are involved, the political element changes this dynamic. Under these conditions, it is best to attack when expansion can be consolidated even in the face of opposition. Meanwhile, a player should attempt to leave enough force covering his power base. To deter an attacker who must also be worried about what the several other players will do to him should he become too weak because he spent too many armies attacking you.

You look down and see a sort of… panel similar to the map tablet Lynna has hold of, shaped like the arena before you, the five statues of yours matching dots on the magical glass. Okay, have a handle on how this works… you think. You move four forward and create a perimeter, one staying back to make sure your position is well-defended. And so, you wait for the other two to attack one another.

The wizard looks deviously down at your allies, then moves a pair of its statues forward, apparently trying to bait both you and the angel. Then, the angel makes his move, keeping two closer to him, and instead of taking the bait he moves two past the bait and instead corners it, his final piece going far past them and actually blocking the path of one of yours.

With all this happening, you hear the sound of something down below. Your allies look back in the direction you came in from. “Oh NOW what?!” Horon exclaims. The wizard chuckles again.

>A. Sir Angel, we may have to postpone! Foes are approaching
>B. Your allies can handle this, focus on the trial. You know you can trust in them

You look down at Samiel, giving him an approving nod, and focus your attention on the trial once more. You move three of the pieces forward, taking out the unit the wizard was trying to use to bait out the Angel, the statue shaped like vaguely like Aveli smashing the other down. But in doing so you leave two of them open to get cornered, which is exactly what the wizard attempts.

“Heh heh heh heh, what’s wrong, girly? You’ve got three of them cornered now… both on and off the arena!” He taps his staff, and you quickly turn and see… eggplants on legs attempting to rush them. The wizard begins to laugh… only for Samiel to nonchalantly slash through one, then look up and glare at him. He gulps. The Knight then starts to march his way. “N-now wait a second! Wait a second! YEEK! NOT THE FACE” He near instinctively hides his head as Samiel fires a Sword Beam up at him… only for a barrier to block the attack.

Samiel quickly turns to the armored angel and gestures in frustration, as if to ask why it’s still up. The angel sighs. “You know the rules. Trial isn’t over.” The Knight grumbles as best he can. “If you are going to be impatient about this-” the angel is about to lecture, but Samiel waves his hand dismissively, instead turning his attention to you. He really hopes you finish this up soon… emphasizing by pointing his sword at the wizard, charging it again. Most everyone else seem to be holding their own, thankfully.

Still, the wizard moves all his troops forward, trying to spring his trap and corner yours, managing to pin down two. And the angel’s forces head in as well, though they seem more focused on keeping the wizard’s occupied. Two still guard his platform… but the wizard’s is wide open. And you do have one open to make an attack directly!

>A. Take down the wizard, quickly!

You look over the tablet and quickly direct the forces you can manage after the foes trapping the rest. And so, you create a domino effect, like a cavalry charge crashing into an enemy flank, that allows you to topple through a grand total of four of the enemy forces, one of the Angel’s and three of the wizard’s, with you managing to surround another of the angel’s.

The wizard looks at you, stunned, then infuriated. “Y-you… are you mocking me?!” He begins to stomp his feet and smack his staff against his tablet. “OOOOH! YOU’RE GONNA GET IT, GIRLY!” He tries to move his remaining unit towards your tower, laughing manically as he does.

“Typical.” the angel remarks… and brings his forces down on the wizard and you, cornering and finishing off the final one of the wizard’s while also… managing to bring down two of yours. The one that looked like Aveli and the one that looked like Horon. You still have one of his cornered, and his platform is now open, but he has the advantage. “And finally, you’re done.” the angel remarks to the wizard.

“Wait! Wait wait wait I want a re-!”

“You don’t get one until the current match is finished.” the angel states with a smirk. A shimmer around the wizard’s platform vanishes. “Nice try.”

The wizard panics, facing Samiel in fear. Quickly he tries to fling a magical spell of some sort at Samiel… tossing an eggplant at the Knight. But as he does he’s knocked off the platform by Samiel’s Sword Beam. It still does connect though, and… the top half of the Knight is replaced with a giant eggplant, like the monsters fighting your allies. That… that’s not good.

Sheik lunges at the wizard, who attempts to run in a panic, casting another spell at her this time as the Sheikah girl’s blade slashes across his back. He yells in pain… but it still connects, and now Sheik suffers the same fate as Samiel. “SHEIK!” you yell out her name, fear filling your eyes.

“It’s temporary.” the angel explains to you. “Relax. He shouldn’t be too much a hassle now.” And as if on cue, Horon and Aveli chase the monster down, Horon actually having the bright idea of telling the Gerudo girl to start flinging the wizard’s own minions at it, preventing a repeat of what happened to Samiel and Sheik, Lynna checking them over. The angel cracks his knuckles. “Better hurry this up. I still play to win, and you better too if you want to show you’ve got the potential to truly lead.”

You position your remaining units carefully, cornering a couple of the angel’s units and taking one of them down with a pincer maneuver! Now you’re even, and he’s got one cornered! He tries to move one of his units towards your tower while pulling the other back, aware that the other is still cornered.

While this is going on, though, you see that the wizard has made a complete circle around the arena, still panicking as Aveli and Horon chase him. Though, right as Samiel and Sheik turn back to normal, he lets out a loud scream and frantically flings… the magic eggplants at them once more. And so they’re back to being stuck like that, Lynna moving out of the way so she doesn’t get hit either. You see Samiel start to stomp the ground in silent frustration.

“STOP RUNNING YOU COWARD!” Aveli yells at the wizard, flinging one more of his minions at him.

“NOOOO! IF I DO YOU’LL HIT ME IN THE FACE!” he yell-whines, trying to run faster. He’s… remarkably quick for someone wearing such heavy robes. The minion does manage to smack him in the back of the head… but right as he manages to successfully fling another magic eggplant at Aveli. Which changes her too.

“OH THAT’S IT YOU ASSHOLE!” Horon... brings out a shield. You’re about to worry he’s going to light it on fire again, but instead he applies the Ice enchantment to it, and uses THAT to in combination with a fireball to slide the shield at the wizard, tackling him down at last.

The angel looks over the scene, almost distracted by it, before returning attention to you. “Heh. Looks like Samiel has found some… interesting friends.”

…Interesting how? You narrow your eyes, but at least the wizard is down. Okay, focus, you’ve got the advantage again! What to do next?

You first direct one of your units to take out the foe you’ve cornered, then bring the others back to your platform. You first block it off from attacking you, then corner it so your foe doesn’t get any bright ideas. He… actually lets out a soft chuckle. “Well, not bad. Looks like you actually do have some tactical skills.”

You can’t help but smirk at that praise. “It got close, but it seems that I have won this one.”

“Don’t be so sure!” he declares, moving his last piece down to the one you have cornered, now with the four in a stalemate near your platform. “So, think you can keep this advantage?”

Meanwhile, Horon has successfully pinned down the wizard, knocking the staff from his hand. “LET GO! LET GOOOOOO!” the wizard yells, trying to get to his staff.

“Oh no you don’t!” Horon manages to fling a fireball at the staff, setting it ablaze. And just in time, Samiel returns to normal, slowly marching towards the wizard. Horon looks back at the Knight, then smirks wide. “You’re in biiiiig trouble now.”

The wizard slowly turns his head, forcing a smile. “…Hello, Hunter. Nice, uh… day, isn’t it?” Magical energy charges around Samiel’s sword. You can’t even see the Knight’s face and yet you know there is a glare behind that helmet. The wizard frowns. “…And the plan was going so well, too.” In one sudden motion, he attempts to grab Horon to use him as a shield, yet the boy kicks off the monster and brings up his ACTUAL shield, the wizard’s hand slipping off it. Samiel fires a Sword Beam and brings the wizard down, with him yelling out, “CURSE YOU, HUUUNNNTTEEERRRR…!” as his body turns to black mist… though it seeps down through the floor.

Well, thank goodness that is over. Still, you have something to finish.

You look over the arena… and a smirk comes across your face. “Sir Angel, I am willing to accept your surrender.”

“Surrender?” he asks, crossing his arms. “What makes you so sure?”

“This.” You move the piece further from the others towards the stalemate, cornering one of the angel’s pieces. “And now, I will be able to claim victory in two turns. All it will take it for me to take out the surrounded piece, then either go after you or take out your remaining one. You could move it away, but by then you will be outmatched beyond recovery. Are you willing to surrender before then?”

The angel… grins, and starts to laugh. “Hah… hahahaha! All right girl, looks like you pass.” He taps the side of his helmet. “And you are willing to show mercy.”

“I do not wish to draw this out.” you explain. “This was certainly not the trial I was expecting, I must admit, but it was quite a test.”

“Very well.” He places his hands down, and the statues disappear into the aether. “You win, challenger. You have shown the ability to lead.” The angel spreads his wings and makes a short jump from the platform, floating down as his wings flap to slow his fall. He walks towards the center of the arena, another statue rising up from it… holding something in its hands.

You head down your platform and approach. It’s… a curious-looking tiara of some sort. Triforce in the center, wings to the sides, even jewels embedded in them, yet there are little, etched in symbols in the jewels. Or… wait, the jewels are of the same material as that glass over the tablet Lynna has. Your allies approach with you, looking over it. “What… is it, exactly?”

“This is the Champion’s Tiara.” the angel tells you. “The one who has proven to be capable of leading may wear it and be granted the power to better coordinate those they lead, and even lead you to weak points on enemies, though only if you’re using that function actively.” You notice Samiel give the angel a look, though make no comment beyond that. Well, here it goes. You take the tiara and place it on your head.

“Thank you, sir angel, I will use it well.” you tell him, giving a polite curtsy. “Before we leave, though, what do you intend to do about the Pirates attacking this temple? What should we do to help?”

He looks up at Samiel. “You got this under control?” The Knight crosses his arms and seems to give an accusing look. The angel throws up his hands. “Fine, fine! Sheesh, don’t give me that look. You’re as bad as Piteraq.” His wings stretch. “Lemme guess, big ship somewhere?” Samiel nods. “All right, I’ll get them out of here, you finish off the stragglers.”

“You’d take on a whole ship full of those things all yourself?” Horon questions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO_5AYVRyPM

The angel almost scoffs at the boy. “These losers are a minor threat. Samiel alone could probably handle them, but guess you lot have more important things to get through.” He then ponders for a moment. “Maybe I could outdo his high score…”

“They do have Komaytos.” Sheik comments to the angel. “We fought some mutated form of them in the previous trial.”

And to that, the angel just seems to groan in annoyance. “Oh lame. Well, make it your priority to clear them out ASAP. Freeze ‘em and smash ‘em. When their ship is gone, they won’t have much chance for reinforcement, so just take them out. Hrmn… think your old pal is still leading them, Samiel?” he asks. Samiel nods. “Yeah okay. Bet that thing’s lurking somewhere. Don’t leave it up to the Thunderbird to finish off, if you can find their leader, take it out immediately, and the rest will surely flee.” His wings stretch again as he starts to float up, a magical light flowing from them. “Oh! Last bit of advice! You’ve got a bunch of folks skilled in magic here, yeah? Check with the Great Fairy in the temple to the north-east, that’ll help you all out.”

“Hey, angel-face, what’s your name anyway?” Aveli asks.

He lifts up his helmet, showing black hair and a face similar to Piteraq’s as he gives a confident smirk. “Aquilo. And hey, you lot take care of Samiel! The grump needs some friends.” A doorway opens up on the path opposite the one you came in through, and Aquilo flies through it.

You smile kindly up at Samiel. “Shall we head forward?” He pokes you in the forehead, as if to tell you not to make any comments on what the angel told you. You just keep smiling as he walks forward.

Your group heads out the doorway, exiting out at the top of the turret tower. You watch as the angel brings out a magic staff of his own, taking out some of the monsters that were starting to congregate near the tower with rapid-fire blasts of magical energy, then fly out and down below the floating island.

“So, where to next, T?” Aveli asks, her eyes looking over the tiara on your head. A good question. Keep at the pace you’ve been going at and try the towers to the west? You tell everyone to head to the temple, but along the way you take a moment to self-reflect. The temples so far have tested strength and leadership… or rather, Power and Wisdom. So logically, another should be testing Courage, right? Which means… well. You glance at Horon, getting an idea. “Sheik, Horon, perhaps we should switch ownership of the Servant Swords for a short while.”

The boy raises an eyebrow. “Er, why exactly?”

“I believe that the next trial will involve a test of Courage, and you may be one of the best fits for that, Horon. So, Sheik, you should should take hold of my blade, while Horon makes use of yours.” you explain.

Horon smiles and very slightly blushes at the compliment. “Courage, huh? Why, thanks, P- …Termina.” Sheik gives a shrug and takes your Servant Sword of Nayru as she gives Horon her Servant Sword of Farore. Horon hands Aveli the Servant Sword of Din, the Gerudo girl actually taking both it and the Biggoron’s Sword in her hands for a moment. “Ooooh! Hey T! I can dual wield with these bad boys!”

Samiel keeps watch of the movement of the foes in the distance while Lynna looks over the map once more… and finds something interesting. “Termina, are you sure it’s just Courage that’s next?”

You look back at her. “What do you mean?”

“Well… if I’m looking at this correctly, there are actually a total of six of these towers…” She taps on the map. “Though only four seem active, at the moment. The two to the east we just went through, and the two to the west we should probably be heading in next.”

That… is something to consider. You glance over to the Knight. “May there be more trials we have to go through?” He shakes his head. “What makes you so sure?”

Samiel pokes Sheik on the shoulder, then writes in her hand. “…Ah. Samiel has been through one once before.” she explains. That… just raises further questions, and Samiel notices the look on your face, writing again. “Stories for another time.”

“If you insist, Sir Knight.” Your group ascend the entrance to the temple… and immediately you hear a sound of thunder streaking across the area, inside the temple structure. Everyone picks up the pace, and you arrive at a large fountain area… that steams more like a mild hot spring. Above it is what looks like a young woman, though taller than any of you by quite a bit, with short blonde hair and light clothing similar to the angels’ garbs, though with her own little details. A long, electric-blue scarf that seems to flow into actual electricity, and large fairy wings sprouting from her back that also spark light bolts of lightning as they flutter.

“Just one thing after another today! Ugh!” what you assume is the Great Fairy complains… as she lets out powerful blasts of lightning at a swarm of Komaytos! Eight in total… though that gets brought down to five when lightning chains through a trio of them close together, the rest spreading out further.

You quickly enchant your Crossbow with Ice magic, then bring out your Hookshot, yanking the Komayto away from the Great Fairy, even giving a little tug of your arm as you do so it’s moved upward as it is yanked towards you. And in doing so, you give yourself the perfect opportunity to start firing volleys of bolts at the monster. It freezes in place as the Ice-enchanted bolts strike it, crashing into the base of the hookshot. The ice around it shatters, though the monster isn’t dead quite yet, and smacks into your arm. You almost instinctively thwack it with the front of your Crossbow, the monster freezing again, this time falling to the floor and shattering with a loud crash!

Samiel meanwhile charges forward, frigid air flowing from his blade, firing out Sword Beams that stop the monsters in their tracks. The Great Fairy blasts one of them with a bolt of Lightning, shattering it instantly. “Oh well YOU sure took your sweet time!” she exclaims in clearly feigned annoyance at the Knight. As your allies charge after Samiel, Horon showing a bit more skill with his sword as he strikes one down. “Oh?~ Found me a couple cute ones on the surface did ya Sammy?~” the fairy comments flirtingly.

“W-what?” Horon mutters out, blushing a bit, Aveli dashing ahead and easily shattering another of the monsters with the two swords, moving them around as if they were sticks.

“Hey hey, you get your own!” the Gerudo girl calls out to the fairy.

Sheik meanwhile leaps at the last of the frozen monsters, blade crashing through it and bringing it down. She stands, looking up at the Great Fairy. “I assume this was not the first wave of them that tried to attack you. Is that correct?”

She stretches her arms, sparking fairy wings fluttering as she gets closer to the fountain. “Third one in a row! Ugh! So, take it your Sammy’s new pals?” she questions, looking around you all… and teasingly poking Samiel in the helmet. “Look at yooouuuu! Got a whole team of them now! Do still miss the handsome one in green, but these aren’t-” Samiel interrupts her by stabbing his sword into the stones hard enough that it actually pieces through, very, very clearly glaring at the Great Fairy. “Okay okay! Touchy! Sheesh… anyway, thanks for the help, surface-dwellers.” She leans back in midair, wings still beating rapidly even as she takes a more relaxed posture. “You almost done with your trials? Gettin’ pretty close to the end here, heehee.” she asks, voice still peppered with a flirtatious and energetic tone.

“Eh, getting there.” Horon tells her, trying to regain composure by responding nonchalantly. “And you might be…?”

“You can call me the Great Fairy of Storms, cutie.” She gives Horon a wink. “What brings you lot here?”

“Well, first, I must say, I have met a number of Great Fairies recently, yet none have shown the degree of combat proficiency you have displayed.” you tell the Great Fairy. “You are quite the powerful combatant.”

She leans forward, laying on her stomach in midair as she rests her chin on her crossed fingers, smiling sweetly. “The Fairies down on the surface aren’t tasked with guarding something so close to the heavens. So, us closer to the goddesses? We’ve gotta be ready for the attacks like this from the underworld. The Thunderbird being around helps keep us on our toes, ready to help whatever adventurers are skilled enough to show up here.”

“Is that how this place was able to hold off the forces of Ganon?” Sheik asks.

She sighs loudly. “Ganon. Ganon, Ganon, Ganon. Shame that history has a way of repeating itself. The few that made it through the Thunderbird’s might did put up quite a fight, yeah, but nothing we couldn’t mop up.” She flips upside-down, floating on her back, head still looking over you all as she places her hands on the back of her head. “Been so, so long since I’ve had so many cute little adventurers up here though! You all must be pretty tough. Good that Sammy’s finally starting to open up to folks.” She pokes Samiel’s helmet again, like an elder sister teasing her little sibling.

“Say, what about Samiel?” Horon questions. “You’re from here, right?”

The Knight grunts, and the Great Fairy up, now sitting in the air. “Little Sammy’s the last warrior of the Wind Tribe, heir to their legacy. Raised up in the clouds, brought up to be a human capable of facing the denizens of the Underworld. Sammy helps protect the relics of the Wind Tribe, but also is tasked with helping the Heroes of below when needed. Aaaaand maybe make a few friends along the way.” With that remark, Samiel seems to… turn away in frustration. “Oh don’t be like that.” the Great Fairy tells the Knight critically. “You can’t keep others at a distance all the time.”

You see Samiel’s right fist clench tight. So the Great Fairy not only encountered the last Hero, but… Samiel seems to have some regrets over him. While this raises a thousand questions in your mind, you know this is not the best time to prod further. “So… Aquilo mentioned that we should head to you once we completed his trial. Specifically, those of us capable of Magic…”

Her face lights up and sparks seem to jet from her wings with greater intensity, a beaming smile directed at all of you. “So I wasn’t mistaken! Oooooh this is great! Okay, okay, of all of you, who can cast Magics?” she questions with almost giddy glee. Yourself, Lynna, and Horon step forward. “Ahh, so the cute one, the pretty one, and the sweet one.” She motions for you all to come closer, gentle sparks around her arms and hands. “While I cannot grant the ability to use Magic for those who lack it, I can give a boon for the ones who display magical skill.” On both hands, she brings her pointer and middle fingers together, then to her lips, letting out a kiss and splaying her arms open as sparks fly out from her. You, Lynna, and Horon all are struck by the sparks, but they don’t deliver a shock. In fact, they feel… almost warm, soothing. The three of you are lifted into the air briefly as a glow surrounds the three of you. Magic fills you, more than you had before. Quite a bit more.

“Then I trust you to keep it.” you reply quietly. You stand up a big straighter. “Thank you for this boon, I promise we will use it well. Do you know of any others that can do the same? Or at the very least, any we should keep an eye out for?”

“Don’t think you’ll be double-dipping on this kind of boon naturally.” she replies, giving your forehead a poke. A little static jolt causes you to flinch. “Buuuuut, since you’ve been such a good sport to Sammy so far, I’ll let you in on a little secret. You DEFINITELY have a greater amount of potential in you to use stuff like this. Could probably get some more advanced stuff in too. Try using that pretty head of yours to be more creative with the skills you’re about to learn.”

Samiel starts to make his way to the exit, giving you a pat on the head as he walks off. You use this chance to quickly ask the Great Fairy, “Did… did you know the Hero? The Hero of our time?”

“Oh he sure was a cutie. Handsome and brave, heh, but had this charm and pure optimism to him that just melted your heart. Even got Sammy to open up a bit.” The bubbly look she’d been keeping up seems to give way just a little, to a more somber and reserved one. Smile still across her face, but saddened. She glances at Horon first, then at you. “He was his own person. He lived his life how he wished to, and fought for what he believed in. Don’t try to live up to what he was. Try to be your own person too. All of you. You’re all doing an amazing job so far! How many others made it all the way up here? You’ve touched the tip of the heavens themselves!” Her enthusiasm returns. “Remember the Hero, sure, but save your land with the skills you possess.”

You smile softly. “Thank you. Anything else you suggest next?”

She actually floats closer to Lynna. “I do. You wish to keep your friends safe, yes?” she asks the young woman. Lynna nods. “You may end up facing a trial yourself. Make sure you are ready for it.” The Great Fairy then floats back, waving to you all. “And be aware that more than one of you is filled with Courage!”

You all begin to follow Samiel, waving back to her. You glance at Horon, who’s pondering the same thing you probably are. More than one…?

Once out of the Great Fairy’s temple, you look through the area again. Lynna looks at the map once more, a flash of lightning streaking across the sky and thunder echoing after, indicating still more enemies trying to enter the Temple. You still ponder over what the fairy said. More than one…?

“So, we have two towers left. One closer, one further west.” Lynna comments. She glances in the direction of the furthest one… and as you look as well, there are some pirates moving on patrol near it. There IS also another smaller temple structure to the north-west, too. Hmm. “Let’s head to the closest one.” you respond, watching the foes in the distance as you all make your way forward. “Whatever we find there may prove advantageous in the battles ahead, after all.”

“Sure sure.” Aveli shoulders both swords, looking over them, then her gauntlets. “Heh, they’ve prove damn useful so far.”

Horon leads the way with Samiel, but you hang back a bit, staying by Lynna and thinking over what the Great Fairy said some more. More than one who shows Courage? …Wait. Heh. Of course. The soft laugh you make catches her attention. “Remembering something?”

“I… possibly should apologize for not thinking of this sooner. Lynna, you really have proven yourself in the face of danger. Even on the day we met, you strove to help those in need, fully aware of the peril ahead.” You give her a kind smile. “You show real Courage.”

She looks down, smiling shyly as she blushes a bit. “I don’t know if I’d go that far. I’m not… really like any of the rest of you. Especially you. A lot of this still… scares me, to be honest. I don’t really know how much longer I’ll really be able to help effectively, and I am fully aware that things will only get more and more dangerous from here.”

“Yet you choose to stay with us.” you comment.

She nods. “Because… I know, for now at least, I CAN still make a difference. I want to help you all.”

“That’s Courage.” you tell her. “Real Courage.”

Reaching the turret tower, you all make your way through, entering a spiraling path once more, Lynna still… honestly trying to process what you told her. Horon keeping an eye on the two of you with a more neutral expression on his face, not really sure how to take it either. Once inside the next trial room, you find it odd even compared to the others. It seems to be a large circular arena, with a bird statue standing near the end of it. Samiel stays back by the entrance, motioning for you all to move forward.

Aveli thinks to ask the Knight, “This the trial of Courage, then?” Samiel gives a nod, causing the Gerudo girl to look at Horon. “So, what does this Courage trial entail, then?”

Samiel gives a shrug, and Horon stretches. “Eh, I can handle it no prob, whatever it is.” Lynna though tugs at her dress nervously.

You first give Horon some words of encouragement. “Best of luck. I know you have done well before, but take care to not let it cloud your judgement. The difference between mere bluster and actual Courage is how one applies it. Stay focused and you will do well.”

“Got it, Termina.” He smiles confidently, walking forward.

As he does, though, you look to Lynna next. “Well? Do you wish to attempt the trial as well?”

She looks foward silently for a moment, then nods. Lynna smiles at you. “Yeah. I will. Thank you.” She starts to walk after Horon, trying to catch up to the boy.

“Sheik, Aveli, with me, let’s make sure this door is well-guarded just in case some of our foes try to break into this one.” You also make sure the tiara is on tight, and focus a little with it, closing your eyes for a moment. When you open them, it’s as if you become a good deal more aware of your surroundings. Movement slows ever so slightly. You feel… a bit more connected to your allies, even Samiel, as they take their positions beside you.

When Lynna and Horon are a bit closer to the statue, a sound draws your attention to them. The bird statue’s wings glow with a magical blue light and flap towards them, and a gust of wind starts to push them back. The statue’s wings beat slowly, making it hard for the two of them to stand, much less move forward. Your attention’s drawn back forward by the sound of something opening the door you entered through.

Pirates. At least three heading in. You can… almost feel Aveli and Sheik standing ready, Samiel’s blade charging with Magical power. Your mind feels sharp as ever, but you might need to really focus to keep this awareness the tiara is giving you.

“Sheik, with me!” you call to her, an intense focus on your face as you keep watch of your foes’ movements. “I’ll enchant your needles, then guide you on the foes’ weakpoints!”

“Understood.” She brings a few out and you enchant them with Ice Magic. Sheik then leaps forward at the Pirates, dodging around them. You… can see them so clearly. Your eyes lock on with one of them, and you call to Sheik to strike at the some vulnerable areas of the monster. It does notice what you’re doing, and manages to fire a magical blast of energy from its massive claw at you. The blast connects, but you’re capable of guarding against the worst of it. It freezes up from the wounds Sheik inflicted, falling to the ground like an oversized icicle.

[Hearts: 7/11]
[Magic: 9/10]

Samiel actually backs up a big, reaching the stairs leading to the arena, before charging forward and barreling through the Pirates like a bolt of Lightning himself, not getting all of them but knocking through enough that they’re easy targets for you and Sheik. Aveli too joins in, catching one of the sword-wielding Pirate’s blades with the Biggoron’s Sword and slashing across the chest with the Sword of Din. Isn’t quite as graceful as you are dual-wielding, but she’s handling it well enough for now.

One Pirate manages to make it through the chaos as Samiel takes on a majority of of the ones behind the door, keeping them away long enough that the door closes behind him, only a trio of stragglers behind it. One of the Pirates Samiel knocked down is able to stand and lunges towards you, but you see its movements with perfect clarity, dodging and rolling away from it, and in such a way that it’s open for Sheik to throw one of her needles in the back of its neck, frost covering it and giving Aveli a chance to bring it down!

Below you all, Horon and Lynna continue to try to move closer to the statue, the ferocious gusts of wind growing even stronger as the statue’s wings beat faster. Horon begins to falter, but thinks quickly and brings out the Sword of Farore, stabbing it into the ground. “If you think that’s enough to stop me, you’re in for a rude awakening!” he yells out, using the blade to help him move forward, stabbing it into the ground again and again with every step.

Lynna looks back at your group for just a moment, then tries to press on herself. As each step becomes harder to take, she seems to get an idea, pulling out the Gale Boomerang and flinging it in front of her. The vortex it creates ahead of her seems to block out the statue’s winds for a brief moment, Lynna running as quickly as her dress will let her to catch up to it and do it again.

“Aveli, your turn! Follow my lead!” you call out, keeping careful watch of the monsters’ movements. The one closest to you slashes at you with its blade, and while you dodge back you find yourself backed into the edge of the arena, the only thing keeping you from falling being the updraft resulting from the beating wings of the statue. Thinking it’s cornered you, the Pirate raises its sword, but that gives the chance you were waiting for. “NOW!” you yell to Aveli, motioning to the monster’s side.

Like a small cannonball, she lunges forward and smashes the Biggoron’s Sword through its side. In its death throes, it still tries to attack you, sword swinging down, forcing you back to avoid it, off the edge. Thankfully, though, the winds slow your fall enough that you manage to grab hold of the ledge you leap back from as the monster finally falls. You’re able to pull yourself up enough to keep track of the battle, Sheik having successfully frozen the final monster’s legs to keep it from moving after her. You direct Aveli to the foe, the Gerudo girl making a clumsy though powerful spin at the Pirate, both blades smashing through it and bringing it down.

With those monsters dealt with, you turn attention over to Horon and Lynna. The boy still keeps pushing forward, using his sword like a makeshift walking stick, each step harder than the last as the bird statue beats its wings harder. Lynna starts to lose ground for a moment as it becomes harder to even fling the Gale Boomerang forward. You call out to them loudly, cheering, “You can do it! Horon, Lynna! You are almost there! I believe in you both!”

>>4187824
Something in Lynna’s mind seems to click into place. She speaks something quietly, lost in the powerful gusts of wind. Instead of trying to head forward on her own, she moves the Gale Boomerang in a direction that lets her get closer to Horon. She then brings out her Hookshot. “HORON!” she calls out, catching the boomerang and putting it away, then holding out her hand as she kneels, trying to brace herself against the winds. “TOGETHER!” He seems to get what she’s saying, and, holding the sword with one hand to keep himself stable. Lynna then fires the Hookshot forward, though upward slightly, latching on to the back of the statue’s head. It pulls Horon and Lynna, the two now able to march themselves forward.

Even as the statue’s wings beat faster and faster, the pair march on, until finally… they reach the end! The statue’s wings spread out, finally stopping. The Hookshot briefly brings the pair up, before they fall back down. The statue’s claws raise from the ground, holding up a glowing object that you can’t quite make out.

You pull yourself up, Sheik and Aveli helping you to your feet as the three of you hear the sounds of battle continue through the door. Without missing a beat, you tell the two of them to charge forward with you, focusing carefully on what’s ahead. As you get through the door, you see Samiel clashing with several foes across the spiraling pathway. The whole scene is a flurry of action, eight of the monsters, of varying builds, having gathered around the Knight and each trying to attack him. Further back, there is a ninth monster, different from the others. There is… this bubbling, horrid around its body, mutating it ever so, that feels ominously familiar to you.

Even so, Samiel manages to move back a bit for just a moment and then leap into the air, spinning as he does and somehow coating his body in electricity, and smashing into one of the Pirates, ripping it apart in midair. Aveli lets out a soft whistle. “Whew. Well, maybe Sammy doesn’t need our help.”

And that catches attention of a few of the Pirates, with the lot of them firing off magical blasts at your group. You keep focus and dodge easily, Sheik and Aveli doing the same. You also once more look upon the mutated Pirate. You did see that before. The malicious mass you saw in the Great Deku Tree! Has it corrupted that Pirate too?

“Aveli, wait for my signal, I have an idea!” you call out, trying to focus as the monsters all turn their attention to you. Upon hearing you say that, though, they begin to fire at the Gerudo girl, who can only barely take the barrage of magical blasts that crash into her. Agh! You follow through with part of your plan anyway, closing in on the Pirates as you cast an Ice enchantment and then simultaneously ready yourself for Din’s Fire! It takes substantial effort and your first attempt merely cancels the spells out momentarily, but putting in more effort, you slam your fist into the ground and, to your slight surprise, blue flames erupt from around you! What initially looks like a blast of heat gives way to frost encasing three of the Pirates in ice!

[Magic: 3/10]

Sheik makes her way to Samiel’s aid as you cast this spell, the pair taking on the Pirates that try to go after you. Aveli is able to regain her strength, though she isn’t quite able to spin through the frozen foes like you intended. However, you both hear something from behind…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp2p2mgif_c

“Termina! Aveli! Duck down!” Horon yells, holding his hand forward and bracing it, Magical power charging around his glove and a far larger sphere of flame than normal appears before him. The two of you do as he asks and dodge away, the oversized fireball launching forward and not only crashing into one of the frozen Pirates, but tearing through it and shattering it from the contrasting heat levels. Even Horon seems surprised by its effects. “…Wow. That statue wasn’t kidding.”

The malice-corrupted Pirate snarls and growls in anger at this, bringing out a sword that seems to ooze the very mass that’s infested its body. There are still several frozen Pirates open to attack, but you don’t like the look of whatever the corrupted one is up to.

You dodge roll back, leaving a bomb behind, though one of the still active Pirates makes note of this and fires at the bomb right before you’re out of range, grazing you with the explosion. It still damages the remaining, frozen monsters, at least.

[Hearts: 6.5/11]

Still, you are able to refocus yourself, locking on to the monster in the back and setting out a Bombchu the moment you see an opening, seeing that it’s moving a bit slower than the other Pirates… almost as if there are two minds trying to run the body at the same time. However, the monster is able to take note of the Bombchu spiraling along the walls heading to it. It quickly blasts out a black mass at the Bombchu, stopping it before it can do any damage. Meanwhile, another one of the Pirates tries to blast you, and while you avoid the worst of it, you still get knocked down.

[Hearts: 6/11]
[Bombchus: 9/10]

Sheik tells Samiel to focus on the monster in the back, holding off the stragglers after the Knight manages to severely stun one. Aveli charges through, swinging wildly at the Pirates that blasted you, getting hit herself in the process but powering through and managing to bring them down with Sheik. Horon charges past you, building up another charged fireball, but the corrupted Pirate blasts him down as well before he can even fire. Lynna manages to reach the pair of you as you both try to get up.

Samiel finally meets with the Pirate, his blade clashing with the monster’s. In contrast to the slower movements of his foe, Samiel almost moves like water around it, blade now letting out intense heat, slash after slash cutting back at the monster. Thanks to the malicious ooze surrounding its body, it is a good deal more durable than its allies, but only just. And then… you notice something. The slow movements, it actually seems a bit disoriented by the twisted hallway. Immediately, you shout to the Knight, “Samiel! Knock it off its feet!”

Without even looking back, the Knight follows your advice, knocking the oozing sword of the monster upward and then leaping up at the beast himself, spinning in midair and letting out sparks as he does. Like you suspected, the monster is knocked off its feet and falls back, prone, struggling to get back up. Samiel’s sword stabs into the chest of the beast, piercing its armor and finally bringing it down.

Lynna helps you and Horon up, the boy rubbing the back of his neck. “Bah. Well, at least I was able to make the save for a moment. Still handy, but might need a bit to get used to it.”

“Thank you for the assist regardless. The trial seems to have definitely proven worth it, yes?” you ask, flinching a little as you try to stretch. Ow. Really need to be more careful with those things, the wounds are minor but the blasts still sting. “What exactly did it grant?”

Both Horon and Lynna show you curious new bracelets around their right wrists, thin and not exactly metallic, almost looking like the stone Lynna’s tablet is made of. Small gems are embedded in them, with that same Lightning Bolt symbol from before. “We agreed to place our hands on the object at the same time, and it just… turned into this.” Lynna explains.

“Said it allows us to ‘Charge’ our abilities somehow, and, well, that was the first real test. I kinda just mirrored what Samiel’s been doing.” Horon explains. “Packs quite a kick, I’d say.”

You nod, Aveli and Sheik moving closer. As you look over the little Iron Knuckle, you think to tell everyone, “We should rest and recover for a bit, while we have the chance. Best not to waste any of this.”

“Oh, actually, Termina, Aveli, you two seem to have gotten the worst of it, so come here real quick.” Lynna asks, and the pair of you move to her. She places her hands together, a soft glow appearing around them, Magical energy charging for her like it did for Horon. She then places her hands forward, to you and Aveli, and… your wounds heal up almost instantly. All of them!

[Hearts: 11/11]

Lynna lets out a sigh of relief. “Good, so it does work like the statue said. I don’t know if enemies will let me focus like that to heal any of you up completely, but this definitely gives more than normal.”

With all that over, you all finally head outside again, and find that the Pirates that were on patrol are mostly gone… save a couple that you see laying on the ground. As husks. You slowly approach, finding them to break apart when touched. You gulp, looking to Samiel, who seems to know what you’re thinking, as he nods when you ask, “Komaytos?”

“Sheesh! How many of those things are there?!” Horon exclaims in exasperation. “Every time they seem to just come back with even more.”

Samiel lets out a loud sigh in seeming agreement. Well… only two places left. Last turret tower, or the temple.

“We should head to the last tower.” you tell everyone. “Best to be thorough, especially with… that waiting for us once we were done with the previous one.”

“Makes sense.” Aveli comments, looking to Horon. “So… does that charging thing take more out of you when you use it?”

“Nah.” he replies as he walks forward. “It’s more of like… holding focus, I guess. Trying to… I dunno, channel a determination to move forward, or something. Hard to really explain. But I know how to use it, so, hey.”

You make the journey through the spiral staircase and winding room once more, and finally, you reach the last trial area. And… it’s different, even from the previous ones. It’s more of a circular platform around a dark void, the platform glowing softly with a bluish-white light. In the center is a strange, still pool of water. Samiel looks it over, familiar but surprised, then motions for you all to head forward.

“What is it?” Aveli asks.

The Knight writes in Sheik’s hand, who replies for him, “A… trial of… secrets?” Sheik looks at him with confusion. “Truth? I am not sure how-” Samiel writes something else. Sheik only grows more confused. “…Love? I am not quite sure I understand.”

Aveli blinks. “…You’re messing with us. What, is it trying to play truth-or-dare with us or something?”

Samiel chuckles softly, writing one last thing in Sheik’s hand… which causes her to freeze up a bit, confusing the Knight. Sheik replies for him, “It is a trial fit for those who want to protect others. In doing so, though, they will have to self-reflect on what drives that protection.” The Sheikah… seems nervous, and Samiel takes note of this… giving her a gentle nudge forward.

…Protect. Hrmn.

Even with the encouraging nudge from Samiel, Sheik looks… genuinely unsure. Seeing this, Lynna actually walks a little closer, then looks back to you. Aveli seems curious, first of Sheik, then of the pool of water in the center of the platform. “…So do you just like, dive in, or something?” You move closer as well, the whole group approaching, Sheik more reluctantly. It actually seems rather deep, though there is definitely a bottom you can see, with a statue resting there.

Lynna actually seems confused, though her confusion is more one born of familiarity, rubbing the back of her neck. “Samiel… how exactly are these trials devised?” she questions the Knight.

He writes in Sheik’s hand, who replies for him, “The… Thunderbird and angels see the hearts of those who enter its Temple and arrange tests accordingly. To help them reach the best of their abilities.”

Lynna stands beside Sheik. “…Are you going to attempt this trial alone?”

You tap your chin for a moment, then question the young woman, “Are you asking because you would like to attempt it as well, Lynna?”

She tugs at her dress slightly, and nods. “But… I don’t want to feel like I’m intruding, Sheik. This is something for you, isn’t it?”

Sheik remains silent, looking over the pool of water, a slight reflection looking back at her. You walk closer and place your hand on her shoulder, giving her a soft, sweet smile. “I believe you can do this, Sheik. I have faith in you. I know there may be something you are hesitant to confront, but I know you can make it through it.”

Lynna politely stands beside her and gives a shy bow of her head. “If you would rather do this alone, I-”

“No, no.” Sheik shakes her head, then gives Lynna a look of determination. “I’m willing to do this. And if you’re willing to go with me, I have no objections.”

“Okay.” Lynna smiles, then looks at the pool. She gives the water a soft tap with her foot, checking its temperature apparently. “…Okay. Um.” She looks over to you. “Can, um, you watch over my dress for a moment? Until we’re done. Kinda hard to swim with it on.”

Horon makes an awkward noise, then immediately turns away. Aveli tilts her head in confusion for a moment, but then it seems to click for her. “Oh right.” She then looks up at Samiel, Horon doing the same, his a… more judging glance. The pair giving him a look as if to ask, “Well?” The Knight seems to roll his eyes at them, giving Sheik an approving pat on the head and then moving back to the door.

“I’ll hold on to it Lynna, don’t worry.” you tell her kindly. She hurriedly removes her dress, having a swimsuit on underneath thankfully, and hands it to you with the map tablet along with it. Lynna and Sheik both head into the water, wading through it for a moment before diving deeper into the spring.

Horon turns back around upon hearing the splash of them entering, trying to refocus himself. “Ahem. S-so! We stand watch, yeah?”

You nod, holding on to Lynna’s dress as you head over to stand beside Samiel. “…If you don’t mind my asking, can you tell me about the Hero’s trials?” The Knight points to his throat. Ah, right. “So, yes or no questions, right?” He nods. Okay. “Did he go through all these trials himself?”

Samiel at first nods, then waves his hand. Horon approaches, asking a question himself. “Did you help him with some?” And to that, Samiel gives a definitive nod.

“So, if you went through some, did you go through any of the ones in here?” And he nods. Okay, obvious one. “You were familiar with this one… was this one of them?” Another nod.

“How many of them did he go through?” Horon questions. Samiel holds up… six fingers. “W-wait, six?”

You think to look at the map Lynna handed you. There were two more turret towers, after all. “Were the other trials difficult?” Samiel rubs the back of his neck and hesitates a response, but nods. “Hrmn. Okay, we have seen trials of Courage, Wisdom, and Power, and now… Truth?” You guess. Samiel nods. “Do you know how to describe the other two?”

The Knight taps the front of his helmet in contemplation, before drawing his sword and deciding to slowly attempt to write out words with it. He doesn’t scratch the surface, but instead traces, slowly, trying his best to write in Hylian. The first word becomes clear to you when he’s about done. “…Time?” Horon questions. That gets a nod. That… makes a degree of sense, then. Time and Truth, but then what of the final? He continues to slowly write.

“Light.” you read out when you… but Samiel holds his hand up to tell you to wait, as he doesn’t seem quite satisfied with it. He writes another word. “…Force?” You tilt your head. “Light… Force? What?” Samiel seems to grow frustrated. He makes one more attempt, more quickly than before, and you think you start to understand it now. “Life.” you read out. “A trial of Life, or Life Force, or perhaps ‘Soul’ would be a better way to put it. Am I correct?”

Samiel nods and is about to put his sword away… when a voice calls to you all from the darkness. “The energy that dwells within all forms of life.” it speaks, a… sinister, echoing, ancient sound to its words. Creeping and vile, speaking with malice. Samiel tenses up. He knows this voice. “That which WE find most delectable… hahahahaha… hello little mortals.”

You see Samiel’s head turn around and you swear he almost tries to yell out something, but the words simply do not come. Horon and Aveli stand on-guard. “And who the hell are you?” the little Iron Knuckle demands of the darkness.

“Hell is a very good descriptor, child…” it taunts. “Samiel… our last encounter was quite the match, wasn’t it? You nearly got me for good that time, hahahahaha!” You all hear what sounds like a distant “thud” come from the hallway leading to the trial area. “You know all too well that I will ALWAYS come back. >“How many of them did he go through?” Horon questions. Samiel holds up… six fingers. “W-wait, six?”

>That day, Horon was amazed to discover that when Samiel said "Six," he really meant, "I killed your father and this hand is proof of that sin."

“Answer the question. Who ARE you?” you demand of the voice, focusing on your Tiara to try and hone in on the source of it. Your vision glows ever so slightly, leading you to the door, but also to a shape outside. So it’s not in the room itself. Thankfully. It… does seem massive, too big to really fit through the hallway.

“Ohoho, quite the spunk from this one!” it replies. “I have been called so many things. I am what your kind could call a… Reaper. A God of Death, cunning as I am brutal. You could also call me the… Pirate King! Yeahahahahaha!” An inhuman, truly hellish roar echoes from all around you. “The Demon Dragon of Darkness, the enemy of life itself! Oh, but to the Hunter, I am something much more personal, aren’t I?” The loud thud echoes again.

“Quite the titles you claim.” you reply, keeping your cool. “Your demons have proven to be quite the challenge, but at every turn they have failed at that they set out to do. I would think a Pirate King would better lead them.”

There’s a low, evil chuckle in response. “Little loudmouth, you have no idea the kind of power at my command. Though… he did warn me of you Hylian upstarts.”

“He?” you ask loudly.

“Our new little friend. The one who gave us what we need… to tear the Thunderbird’s very essence from its body!” The demonic roar echoes again. “How’s that sound, little ‘Sammy’? Oh, and you think these paltry pipsqueaks can serve as anything more than a snack for me? Bring as many as you want, you know what happens when you do. Though… who knows, maybe this time you’ll only lose HALF of them! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”

Samiel’s sword is drawn once more, already charging with Magical power. Horon and Aveli look like they’re about to head off with him, but he raises a hand to keep them back… and you do the same. That causes him to do a double-take. “Samiel… if you need to head out to face it, know that we will be fine. We will get through this. All of us. You have my word.” You bring your hand to your chest. “I promise to you, we will all make it through this.”

Even though you can’t see his face, you know Samiel is smiling. He nods, then points to the pool. He… needs you to guard it, ah. You give an accepting nod, and Samiel heads out. Horon reaches a hand out, but pulls it back when the door closes.

There’s a splash from the pool. You turn back and see Sheik gasping for air, pulling her scarf off and panting. She looks to you once she catches her breath, then seems to be filled with intense guilt.

>A. Head over to her, ask if she’s okay
>B. Sheik, wait, where’s Lynna?
>C. Call out to the demon, and let him know none of you fear him

You rush to Sheik’s aid, getting down on your knees. “Sheik! Sheik! Are you okay? Talk to me!”

She moves to the water’s edge, shaking her head. “…I couldn’t…”

“Couldn’t what?” She… doesn’t seem injured, at the very least.

Sheik slams her fists into the ground. “I couldn’t do it! I just… I just…” Her voice wavers. She looks up at you, eyes watering up. “I failed… I failed you…”

“What do you mean?” Aveli makes it over, lifting her helmet up. “Can’t you like, try again? It’s just swimming down to the bottom, isn’t it?”

Sheik looks down in shame. “As you go in deeper, it… it shows you more of what you are holding back from others, the waters growing denser the more you have.” she explains. “I… I was supposed to hold off that by… by focusing on what I am supposed to protect. But I couldn’t… I couldn’t…”

You ease just a bit, placing your hand on her shoulder. Sheik keeps her head down. You focus with the Tiara for a moment and see that… Lynna is actually fine. She keeps swimming deeper, even as it seems more and more difficult. You then turn your attention to where Samiel went off to, the Knight seeming to manage well enough on his own. Aveli looks over Sheik with confusion. “What’s exactly holding you back?”

Sheik doesn’t look up, merely clenching her fists tight. “…I am, I… it is something I am sworn to uphold for as long as I live. And… yet, as Sheikah, I am sworn to do everything within my power to protect the…” She looks up for a brief moment, noticing Samiel isn’t around, then looks back down, in a soft tone finishing, “…The Princess.”

“Sheik, what exactly do you mean?” you ask. “Sworn to uphold… what, exactly?”

She looks you in the eyes, lip quivering. “That… that I… you… I am not allowed to let it become known. It… is a secret that must be kept with the Sheikah.”

Lynna finally emerges from the water, gasping for air. “Sheik I saw you were in trouble and-!” she calls out, finding the Sheikah girl by the edge of the water, near you. She swims closer, getting beside Sheik. You notice that she actually doesn’t have anything new with her, even though she could have reached the bottom easily. “You… saw something that you couldn’t confront, right?” she asks. Sheik nods.

“I’m lost.” Aveli declares. “You can’t let what become known?”

Lynna’s eyes widen in apparent understanding. “…You have a secret that you don’t WANT to keep. That’s why you couldn’t make it through.”

“It’s not about what I want. It’s about what is needed of me.” she declares. “And… I have seen that I am incapable of fulfilling my duties.”

Lynna places her hand on Sheik’s shoulder like you are, giving it a gentle squeeze. “If you’ll forgive my language for just a moment. Sheik? To hell with your duties.” All of you look at her with surprise for that. “If they’re in conflict with what you need to be, what you want to be, let the part causing the problem go. You’re your own person.” She lifts her hand from the Sheikah girl’s shoulder, offering it to Sheik. “And I know you’re someone who can help all of us save Hyrule.”
