Nine years ago King Aiden Perenolde betrayed the Alliance and sided with the Horde of Orgrim Doomhammer. Nine years ago Prince Alric Perenolde, the second heir of Alterac was sent into exile for his own protection. This exile turned permanent and Captain Normand Garside, your guardian for the past nine years made sure that you were safe and learned the useful skills that would help you in the future.

Now you are ready to carry the responsibility and unite the scattered Alteraci people and reclaim the lands that were once the Kingdom of Alterac.

You had made probably the most important decision for Alterac since starting this journey. Choosing the Dark Irons, goblins and funding by Lady Katrana Prestor, Alterac would build, operate and drill the oil found in Strahnbrad Hills. But first you would need to conquer the land and tomorrow your army would march there and take the oil for you.

It would still take months before first drops of oil are drilled and ready to be transported. Until then there would be a lot of work to be done and it would be foolish to think that there wouldn't be any issue or other obstacles in front of you.

While staying in Tarren Mill you had been visited by your close friend Jaina Proudmoore. She had heard the rumours and news about your poisoning. And when she had asked you about it as she suspected that something was going on, you had chosen to not tell her anything for her own good.

Now the day before your army would march into Strahnbrad Hills, they had found and destroyed a small gnoll scouting party. You really didn't need yet another distraction, but if the gnolls decide to act uppity, you would have to deal with them.

Welcome to Alterac Resurgent Quest!

You had gotten a better report from your archers a couple hours after learning the news about their victory. How the Rover Brothers had told you about the short engagement, it really couldn't have gone any bit more one sidedly.

After the gnolls had been spotted by the footmen sent by Tarren Mill, they had turned around and forgotten to be careful. Running through the woods, they had run into a firing line of about thirty archers who had peppered them with enough arrows to make hedgehogs blush.

Though what your more veteran archers had noticed was that these gnolls all seemed quite young. No wonder they had panicked like that when seeing the footmen in their plate mails. While you weren't yet sure if their age meant anything, the five gnolls hadn't had any chance against your men.

You put your quill away for a moment as you allowed the ink to dry. A short letter addressed to Lord Blackmoore had been finished as you thought that informing him about the gnolls would be a smart thing to do. He and Durnholde after all were preparing for their own campaign against the gnolls come summer.

Next you decided to write several other letters as you had the time right now. Lady Katrana would definitely need to be informed about the decision regarding the oil, but then you hit a blank. You could ask her about something else as well and you did have some ideas about sending letters to other people. Maybe they could help you or at least to have an open line of communication with them.

But at the same time you weren't sure if you should contact more people, asking for help could lead to favours held by them and you weren't sure if they could help you in the first place.

>Just tell her about the oil. No need for anything else right now.

Van cleef is is gonna propably make our relation with stormwind difficult if he starts acting up.
I dont expect katrana to visit but its the thought that counts.

>Lord Uther, ask his help regarding the Fel inside you. Tell him some details about your condition.
hes the only sympathetic paladin and hes a veteran too right?
>Jaina Proudmoore, write to her about your reasons why you didn't tell her more about the incident.
Last interaction wasnt the best with her.
>Calia Menethil, you haven't heard of her in a while. Just inquire about her health and how she is doing.
>Lady Behind The Cloth, tell your sister Beve that the poisoning is just a story.

Didnt ask in the last thread so ill ask in this. In the games humans are basically beefcakes and fairly strong how much does a regular human compares to other races say elves gnolls/trolls/orcs.

"The quest is based in the Warcraft universe with somewhat more emphasis on the old Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 era lore as I am more familiar with it. I will most likely forget some pieces of newer lore or completely disregard parts of it. This quest isn’t as heroic or pauldron heavy, but draws a more realistic and medieval look on the Warcraft universe."

I wrote this in the first thread. Humans in this Quest are humans like us. Sure there are big blokes and beefy hunks, but they are in minority. Meanwhile orcs and trolls are taller and stronger than your average humans, which makes them dangerous opponents in combat. Same applies to older bigger gnolls.

Alric is quite average size for his age, Arthas meanwhile being on the taller and stronger side, while Kael'thas has the elven height and grace.
>>
Thanking Katrana was something you had to do. She had shown concern and wished you well and quick recovery from your unfortunate incident. Even if she was somewhat, let's just say silly in how she acts and a bit seductive towards you, you didn't feel like what she wrote was a falsehood. So replying to her with your own kind words was the least you could do. You also thought about cordially inviting her to visit Alterac and Dawnholme, but she is probably way too busy to leave Stormwind City for a trip like that.

Then you wrote about the decision regarding the oil. Katrana had promised to lend the coin if you were to sell the oil to her. Letting her know and to allow her to prepare was paramount. You inquired how she would arrange the funds to arrive here and how the payments would go, she probably had a plan in mind and things prepared to be set in motion. Though you wanted a confirmation as you wanted to know what to expect.

You finished the letter with usual well wishes and a mention of wanting to see her sometime. After all, it is better to talk about business face to face with your most important trade partner, than with letters.

You chuckled as you sealed the envelope. Katrana probably loves that last portion. What an intriguing lady she is.

Next you took out more paper and wrote two more letters. First one to Aerie Peak, addressing the Wildhammer Clan and their current leader Falstad Wildhammer. And second one to Dun Garok, notoriously isolationist dwarven hold south of Durnholde. Both letters you crafted carefully and you tried to be as diplomatic as possible, addressing both dwarven holds as your neighbours and wishing that open communication and diplomacy could be possible between you and them. Happy with the letters, you sealed them in envelopes and put them aside.

The last two letters weren't easy, you thought about wanting to write them and at first nearly decided to stop. But if there was someone who could help you, someone who you could trust, it would be Lord Uther the Lightbringer. You thought that you should be straight to the point, tell Uther about the incident and the Fel now inside you. Of course you wouldn't tell him the truth, the Syndicate poisoner is a way more beneficial story to be spread for you in terms of politics and your own safety.

Approaching Uther did have some benefits. He would of course talk with his fellow paladins, hopefully alleviating the pressure within Silver Hand regarding you. He would also talk with King Terenas, in both cases your "poisoning" could garner sympathy or even a sliver or two of support. Especially after the death of Magistrate Maleb, you had a hunch that no one wants to see more nobles fall dead, not even you. Non-reaction would send a message, Lordaeron is unable to protect their own.

Telling him about the Fel, your now green eyes and black nails, felt somewhat risky. But you hadn't done anything wrong, it was an accident. If you had done something wrong, would you bring that into attention to Lord Uther, to the man who destroyed Alterac?

Starting to write, you started about him most likely having already heard the rumours and the news about your poisoning. You wrote how you are still alive and how your mind was willing if your body wasn't there yet fully. You wouldn't allow a setback like this to push your plans into disarray and your goal of reclaiming Strahnbrad Hills would succeed even without you at the forefront of your soldiers. You told him the story of poisoned Alteraci Brandy, how you had tried to vomit it out after realising that something was wrong and how your servants and friends had managed to save your life. Being unconscious for a day and bedridden for two weeks, but surviving and slowly recovering physically.

Then you wrote about the lingering effects of the poison, the Fel based poison that had nearly killed you had left your eyes green and nails black. There was still Fel inside you, you were sure about that, but thankfully no further side effects had shown up. Yet it worried you, it worried you greatly and you wanted advice. How to move forward, how long would it take for the Fel to leave your body? How to return to life before?

Uther would understand the situation, he would know how to act in a delicate and careful way with this. He would know what to do. He was Lord Uther the Lightbringer after all.

You finished the letter with well wishes and hoped all good for him.

It was a long letter and you sighed deeply after finishing it. You would still have to write a letter to Calia as you hadn't heard from her for some time already and you were concerned about her health. Taking yet another piece of paper, you didn't have a chance to start as you were rudely interrupted as someone knocked on the door.

You somewhat wanted them to just go away so that you could write in peace, but when the knocking happened the second time, you knew you had to answer.

"I am coming, hold on for a moment." You raised your voice loud enough for them to hear through the door.

Putting the letters aside, you put on your glasses to hide your eyes and checked that your clothes were tidy. Taking your cane, you walked to the door and opened it.

"Prince Alric." One of the clerks working for Monica said and greeted you with a deep bow.

"Yes, what is it?" You asked the man.

"Lady Jandice has sent you an invite to join her for dinner downstairs." The clerk said.

You had already eaten a little and expected to just see her later in the evening, sharing the bed once more. You really had just thought about relaxing today, finishing the letters and maybe using the hookah given to you by the Dark Irons for a moment or two. But a dinner invite by your lover did sound like a nice time, maybe you could go have dinner with her. Or maybe you should invite her to your room to see if she likes to try the hookah?

>Decline politely. Today was a long tiring day and you just want to rest for now. Finish the letters and relax.
>Accept the invite, you will come downstairs shortly after getting ready.
>Counter her proposal and invite her to join you here, maybe have her bring a bottle of wine or something with her.

Finish the letter, prepare and then go. Hehehe no problems with time when in such conditions.

Bring Gravis, the boys and Malevus on the perimeter, i don't like that we had scouts of a warband of gnolls here in Tarren Mill when we restart the campaign.
Goes without saying that some of our lads remain guarding our stuff here.

"Tell her that I will be there in a moment." You told the clerk.

"Lady Jandice also told me that she expects you to dress appropriately." The clerk told you and bowed.

Appropriately? So the leather jacket isn't enough today.

"A bit longer moment then." You replied.

Closing the door, you sighed and returned to the table. Taking the quill, you thought about quickly writing the letter to Calia, but this interruption had made you lose your concentration.

"Fel…" You cursed aloud, the letter would have to wait till tomorrow.

Putting the quill and ink away, you sighed. At least had taken your better finer clothes with you.

The clothes you had gotten from Stormwind City had seen plenty of use and you thought that maybe you should have opened the package with the clothes Lady Nalice had gotten for you. Or maybe you should order more clothes from the tailors in Stormwind.

Or maybe Malevus could make something for you?

Walking down the stairs with the help of the cane, you observed the restaurant. There were a couple men who looked like merchant's eating at one table, then one more well dressed gentleman enjoying a drink alone. Then in the corner sat Jandice, who gave you a gentle smile when she saw you.

Walking to her, you ran your eyes up and down her. Jandice had dressed in a purple dress that reached her knees and had thrown her archmages robe over it, but kept open. It was simple, but still a very elegant thing. The both shades of purple fit her well.

"Lady Jandice." You greeted her

"Prince Alric." She replied to you.

"May I sit here?" You asked politely, she answered with a nod.

Certain decorum had to be held in public, a way to act and present yourself. As you sat down, you put your cane aside and took the black noise device off your belt. Now you could talk with her without others eavesdropping.

"So a dinner?" You asked her.

"Do you have anything against it?" She asked and gave a sly smile. "Did I interrupt you?"

"No, no you didn't, I was just writing letters. Nothing too important." You told her.

"I just thought that this would be a nice way to relax. It was a long day after all." Jandice told you and continued. "And because I feel like you deserve a break like this."

Deserve? What does she mean?

>Ask what does she mean exactly? Why do you deserve this break?
>Push aside her concerns, today wasn't that tiring of a day. You didn't do much else than just ride around the countryside.
>Deflect and ask her instead how she is doing? Action follows you wherever you go after all.

No update today, awfully stupidly busy day so no energy to finish the update. Will try to get it up tomorrow.

Though to keep things rolling a bit, two threads ago anon had an idea for Alric to start a hobby. Then the idea was passed due to lack of time, but what if Alric had more time? What hobby you think Alric would or should pick up? And with whom he would do the hobby with?

You gave her a curious look as you weren't exactly sure what she meant.

"Today wasn't a tiring day?" You half asked her. "I just rode around the countryside and then sat around a lot while waiting for news."

The same clerk who had seen you earlier brought wine to the table and poured two glasses.

"I told them to start making dinner when you arrive down here." Jandice told you and tasted the wine. "From Stormwind."

"Most wines are from Stormwind, better weather." You replied and continued. "But what do you mean by deserving a break?"

"When you found the gnoll tracks, I could see it on your face. You got all serious and stiff." Jandice replied.

"Yeah, well the gnolls could have been close by." You said and shrugged, you didn't really get why she was so concerned right now.

"But when I returned here and found you in the tent with Captain Garside, you were still so stiff, like a clockwork wind up ready to spring into action." Jandice tried to explain it to you. "You weren't as stiff or serious before, not when we got caught in the storm or not even in Durnholde."

You mulled her words in your mind and didn't really recognise them, though she seemed convinced that this is the case.

"Why didn't you say anything before? I mean we… you know… you have seen me." You asked her and pointed out the shared nights.

"I did notice, but I just thought that whatever happened to you… made you just more serious." Jandice said to you. She hadn't asked any further questions regarding the Fel and seemed to have let the matter go, she was polite like that.

The clerk brought you the starter, a broth with lamb and a mix of onion, cabbage and leek. White bread and butter was also brought to the table. Stopping your conversation for a moment, both of you took the slices of bread and buttered them up.

"Is it that apparent?" You asked her. "Or is it the hair?"

"You do look older and no it isn't the hair. Though the haircut does fit you." Jandice replied to you. "How much did you work before…"

"Long days. Why do you ask?" You questioned her. You weren't sure why she wanted to know.

"Go through a normal day in Prince Alric's life for me." Jandice said. "I have a feeling."

"Alright, well I wake up early…" You started to say.

"How early, it is important." Jandice immediately interrupted and you gave her an annoyed look.

"I wake up well before sunrise, get dressed and drag Malevus out so that we can spar for an hour or so. When the sun rises, I eat breakfast and concentrate on whatever administrative duties I have, be it paperwork or going to see a project in the town." You started going through your day as you ate the broth. It was really good. "Lunch, then more paperwork or most likely studying in the afternoon till dinner. Taking a bath, continuing the studies till it is late in the evening. Then continue being tutored till a bit past midnight before I go to sleep."

Jandice looked at you and was dismayed.

"How much do you sleep?" She asked carefully.

"Maybe four to five hours." You replied. "I don't really feel that tired."

Jandice shook her head in disbelief.

"By the Light, you are working yourself to an early grave." She said to you.

"It is not that bad." You nonchalantly brushed her concerns away.

"Prince Alric, that amount of work and studying would make you a top student in Dalaran. Nearly twenty hours a day…" Jandice said to you and couldn't believe what she had heard.

"It's not that…" You started to say.

"It is. Because I can see myself in you." Jandice replied. "Before Durnholde I was working myself to a burnout, it was either duties to my family or Dalaran. The trip to Durnholde was supposed to be a way to relax a bit before that happens."

She finished her wine and poured more for herself.

"You are a driven person, you have your goals and duties. Achieving them and reaching them is what matters, because otherwise you feel like you have failed yourself and most importantly the others." She told you and continued. "And while this continues, you keep pushing any warning signs away till one day you have had enough and all the stress is let go in an instant."

"So believe me Prince Alric, I was nearly there. I knew it, but I couldn't stop myself. It took the events of Durnholde for me to realise that this can't continue." Jandice seemed more sympathetic, understanding now, speaking from her own experiences. "I was afraid then, wrongly blaming you for which I am still sorry, but the idea of dying then and leaving just work behind and not a life lived to fullest scared me when I started to think about it."

You allowed her to speak as you thought about her words. She was right, you had been rather stressed, but as it hadn't affected your work, you had pushed it away.

"Prince Alric, I need to ask you. What are you afraid of? Because when I realised that I was afraid of not living to the fullest and dying, I changed the way I live." Jandice asked you.

>You aren't afraid of dying in combat or being faced by an assassin, that's for sure. The fight against the gnolls being an example of it.
>You are afraid of being powerless. It was most apparent right after you fell ill, when you couldn't even get out of bed. Such impotence is a fate worse than death.
I don't see Alric as being very stressed or very afraid and he hasn't come off as being in denial of such things either. It seems more like he's a workaholic who likes to get shit done then take a break and have as much fun as possible before going back to work on his goal. Being incapacitated is worse than dying for a guy like him, neither the peace of eternal sleep nor the grind towards his dream.

In this respect, he reminds me of Griffith actually.

I could support the fail the alteracis prompt if it was phrased like this:
>You are afraid that the Alteracis who follow you will be doomed because of you, that you will fail them like your Father did.
It's more about what Alric expects to give to his subjects rather than what they expect of him and it also calls back to his worries about being like his Father or Brother.

>>You are afraid that the Alteracis who follow you grow disappointed in you, that you fail them.
Some time ago, her father Alexei told Alric that "all Perenoldes are the same". Perhaps something like that lingers in the back of his mind, that he will be the same and fail his people.
>>

>>You are afraid that the Alteracis who follow you grow disappointed in you, that you fail them.

"I am afraid of disappointing the Alteracis who have put their trust in me. That I doom them just like my father did, just like my brother is doing." You told her, thinking of each word before saying them. "Your father said back in Capital City that 'all Perenoldes are the same', and I don't want to show him or others who think the same that they are correct."

"That pushes you then, that is your drive." Jandice said to you.

"It is." You shrugged a bit.

"Still you aren't sleeping enough." Jandice replied to you.

"But I haven't felt that overly tired, not like you are saying." You said and continued eating.

"Maybe it is the energy of the youth then, but you need to sleep more. Even if you don't feel tired now, that little of sleep just isn't enough." Jandice said.

"Alright, I will try to sleep more." You told her and knew that she wasn't that convinced of your words.

Jandice just shook her head.

"You are unbelievable Prince Alric…" Jandice just said to you and laughed a bit. "Only afraid of failing others, operating with a silly little amount of sleep. And here I was talking about my fear of dying and you are just so nonchalant about this."

"What can I say, there aren't that many things that I am afraid of." You told her and smiled. You weren’t going to tell her about your fear of Fel changing you, nor about how useless you felt while being bedridden. There is no need to cause her to be more worried.

Though more sleep, she was right about that even if you didn't feel that tired normally. You just need to delegate more work for Tari and Normand, maybe Tannis Foxton can take some of your duties too?

The broth was followed with the second course of grilled salmon with butter and cauliflower. Then came the main course of boar stew with spices from Quel'thalas.

You felt stuffed, really full, but it was so good. It was so tasty. Then dessert came in the form of small sweet pastries.

"By the Light…" You managed to say as you leaned back on your chair.

"The chef is really good." Jandice said to you.

"I need to tell Monica to congratulate the man." You said to her.

The clerk brought you the final course, candied apple slices and assorted cheeses.

"How am I supposed to get up the stairs after all this?" You asked Jandice with a chuckle.

"Have you at least had fun, you don't look as stiff as before." Jandice asked you and smiled.

"Yeah, this has been fun." You replied.

"As was our small ride across the countryside." Jandice told you. Beneath the table you felt her feet touching your ankle, slowly making its way up your leg. "We should do that often, riding I mean."

The sly smile Jandice gave you made it very apparent what she was implying. She was talking rather dirty with you.

"But all fun needs to come to its end, I will be staying here for three more days, can't really find any more excuses to stay for longer, then I need to go back to Dalaran." Jandice said to you. "So shall we spend the remaining time well?"

Well you have to see your army off to Strahnbrad Hills next morning and then there are few other things you had been thinking of doing, but the remaining freetime you have? Spending it with Jandice doesn't sound like a bad idea. In fact it sounds refreshing and relaxing. Exactly something you need according to her.

>Decline politely, the nights spent together are enough as you are most likely going to have your hands full with all sorts of work.
>Invite Jandice to teach you and Malevus fencing. While you are a swordsman, you know very little about fencing. Stretching your legs is good for you as well.
>Take Jandice out for rides across the countryside in the guise of searching for gnolls and other threats. Really just have fun seeing places.

Griffith works fully towards his goals, and what anon likely meant is that Griffith has that and also finding himself once in bad conditions (bed ridden) in common with Alric. Beyond that, Griffith is evil, and has nothing else in common with our boy.

I think playing something like the straight man to her wise gal would be nice. Every time she makes a dirty joke like that riding comment, play it completely straight.

Yes that's it. They are both very single minded to their goal, as in nigh incapable of fear or indecision about what all their struggle is for. They have very different temperaments and moral frameworks however. Read Berserk Medivh, you won't regret it.

Too tired to write today, so the update will come tomorrow. The voting will continue till I get the update out.

Also noted, I will need to read Berserk at some point. It took me way too long to get through Claymore as well. Most likely I will end up re-re-re-rereading FMA instead which would be typical of me.

You kept your stiff upper lip and spoke to her matter of factly.

“The riding has been quite fun, you are right about that.” You said to her as her feet wandered up your leg. “But you leave in just a couple of days, that isn’t as much fun.”

“Oh we could go riding every day, multiple times.” Jandice said back and smiled mischievously.

“We could, there is plenty of countryside to be seen.” You continued seriously. “Maybe I can help you with finding more excuses to stay here, what do you think? Dalaran will surely understand if you watch over the health of a Prince for a few more days, it's not everyday that an unfortunate royal is in need of such talented and capable archmage?”

Jandice gave you a smile and you could see the fire in her eyes.

“Maybe we could continue our talks about trade for a day or two.” She said to you.

“Not a bad idea.” You told her, still keeping your stiff upper lip. She knew what you were doing with this. “There are plenty of things that Alterac could provide Barovs with.”

“There is plenty of enjoyment in finding a solution that satisfies both parties after all.” Jandice said to you.

“You are right, there is plenty for both of us to get from this.” You said and nodded approvingly.

At this point Jandice couldn’t hold herself together as she just laughed. Withdrawing her foot off your thigh, she sighed deeply before smiling at you.

“But what else could we do other than just practice riding and having trade talks?” She asked you and smiled.

“I could show you what I have learned, if you gave me a couple of pointers in return?” You said back and this time gave her a smile.

“What have you learned? Do you mean…” She started to say.

“Oh yes, I mean that.”

“I would love to see that.” Jandice whispered back, her interest really piqued by this.

“Well you have to wait a bit first… maybe a bit of riding first and the talks.” You returned her sly smile.

Oh this was rather enjoyable. You were familiar with duelling with swords, but this trip into duelling with words was something slightly unfamiliar to you, yet you enjoyed this exchange of words. Jandice was a peculiar woman, someone who matched your energy with her own. She was different from you, but you couldn’t deny the bodily connection you had with her.

Oh these couple of coming days would be rather enjoyable, something that would get you relaxed. You were sure about that.

You stood in a room that you didn’t immediately recognise. Just moments ago you were comfortably enjoying the afterglow and now you were here in this dream.

No, you are quite awake. Awake within the dreamworld of your mind.

Looking around you finally recognized the room you were in, it was the reception room just beyond the throne room of the Royal Palace in Alterac City. Looking down, you found yourself wearing the same clothes as you did earlier, your finer ones.

A faint green glow emitted from the small gaps of the door frame in front of you. You had a hunch who was waiting beyond there, so you decided to push the door open and step in.

The throne room was buzzing with activity as you stepped in, the shadowy figures from the previous dreams lining the sides of the room discussing something amongst themselves. You couldn’t make out what they were saying. A faint green glow painted the throne room in its sickly light, a Fel light.

Impure, tainted, corrupted.

But in the middle of the room, you saw someone now familiar standing. But this time she had someone else with her.

Oh no, why was she here? Why did your mind put her here? Why was Jandice with her, why was she here?

The thing masquerading as Malevus turned to look at you, her broken bones cracking and creaking as they found their places. Her cold dead eyes finding yours and then piercing into them.

“Oh I see you…” The Malevus Thing said to you with her emotionless voice.

The shadowy figures in the throne room turned to stare at you.

>No, this is a dream and you are going to wake up. You aren’t going to allow your mind to play tricks with you after a quite nice evening with someone you like.
>Why is Jandice in your dream? Why is she here? The Malevus Thing of your mind must know why?
>Walk past the creations of your mind and sit on the empty throne. This is your mind after all, they are creations of your thoughts after all. You control them.

Treat this like a police interrogation and stay silent. We've already said all that needs to be said to this thing.
>>
You really… really didn't have the interest to deal with this right now. This was your mind, your dream even if it was influenced by the Fel inside you.

You are going to control this, you are going to disregard whatever ploys Malevus Thing was going to enact. Even if before these dreams were full of symbolisms and meanings, you wouldn't mind them this time.

Walking forth, you felt the looks of the shadowy figures in the back of your head. The dead cold eyes of Malevus Thing stared at you as did the fake Jandice. She wasn't real, just a product of your mind.

You didn't give them a single glance as you stepped up the slightly raised pedestal where the empty throne was and sat down on it. This was the first time you had ever sat on your father's… on your throne, be it even just a dream.

"Have you finally accepted reality?" Malevus Thing hissed at you, her clothes slowly turning red again from the seeping blood of her hair and wounds.

"This is my dream, you have no power here." You told her. The presence of the fake Jandice standing next to her made you furious, why was she conjured here? It didn't matter, her presence was uncanny and she didn’t need to be here.

With a puff of green smoke, the fake Jandice faded into the shadows. Malevus Thing seemed taken back by this.

"I have as much power as you do, because I am you and you are me." She hissed and took a step forward, the shadowy figures following her steps. You didn't want them here either and one by one they disappeared as well.

"I had hoped you would have appreciated having her presence to be here as well, but clearly not." She hissed as she took steps towards you, not paying attention to the dwindling number of the figures around her. "But isn't it a thrilling feeling to be with her, each night the passion, the lust, the feeling of being alive."

As she stepped closer you could feel your body get heavier, like something pressed you on the throne. Your heart started to beat faster as you stared back into her dead lifeless eyes.

"Oh I know how you feel, there is no point in denying anything I said. You haven't felt anything like this in a long long time." Malevus Thing said as she walked closer. "You crave it, the feeling of being alive, feeling immortal. You do and you know it."

The oppressive feeling around you grew stronger and stronger. It felt like it was smothering you with its presence. Your breathing started to be ragged and laborious as you tried to get enough air.

"Be it in the field against your opponents, letting the world narrow into just you and your prey. Be it riding through the countryside, letting the wind hit your face. Be it sharing the bed with your lover and letting her nails break the skin of your back." Malevus Thing hissed at you, her tone growing stronger. "All that and more is me! I am you and you are me! Denying any of that would be just lying to yourself!"

1/2
>>
>>5887439

She was right, if she represented those parts of you, power, pride, wrath… lust… then she wasn't lying. You enjoyed the thrill of combat, or riding through the countryside or the nights spent with Jandice.

But you didn't want to hear any of this from Malevus Thing, not from her, you wouldn't accept her.

But could you get rid of her? The doubt crept into your mind as she stepped closer and closer.

Closing your eyes, you tried to concentrate on your breathing and then in the mana inside you. The boiling sea of flames churned within you like a maelstrom and from it you found a constant to concentrate on. The Fel wouldn't get inside your head, you wouldn't accept it.

The silence within your concentration was suddenly broken, as you felt the warm breath hitting your face. The hiss Malevus Thing made each time she exhaled drilled into your ears. Then she spoke.

"You cannot expel what you are, you cannot expel me. Lord Uther won't be able to get rid of me, because he would have to get rid of you as well." Malevus Thing whispered to you.

Even concentrating on your mana, your heart kept racing, beads of sweat appeared on your brow. You felt dreadful, scared and fearful. You couldn't move, yet you kept your eyes closed and tried to control your mind. As much as you banished the shadowy figures out of your mind, she controlled this dream as well.

"Hear me out once more. Accept me as the part of you I am, or accept to work with me, realising that there is no point in denying who you are." Malevus Thing whispered. "And if you don't, I guess we have to continue doing this till you do. So how about it? Will you change your mind? Because think about it, I haven't told you no lies, for I know you."

Her breathing was coming from right in front of your face. You didn't dare to open your eyes, you were powerless, felt like your strength was being drained from you. Was it a mistake to walk to the throne and challenge her like this?

"I am you Alric Perenolde, you are me."

>No, deny her again. You will find a way to get rid of the Fel inside you.
>You aren't going to deny what she is saying about the thrill and enjoyment, but you can't accept those words coming out from her.

>No, deny her again. You will find a way to get rid of the Fel inside you.
This is all getting so tiresome. I've already said this before, she only represents a PART of Alric. Also all her promises don't come for free, it's all a faustian bargain that would leave Alric worse off on the long run. Us not being able to rid ourselves of her is another half-truth, no man can rid himself of all evil but he can be a man of good and truth.

>Open your eyes and struggle against the oppressive feeling. Challenge her presence inside your mind.
I don't know if it's the best option but it's what feels right.
>>
>>5887441
>No, deny her again. You will find a way to get rid of the Fel inside you.
> You are wrong fel. The true strength is from mastering your primal side. Discipline is what made me enjoy individual combat. Comradeire is what makes me fight next to my men. Sleeping with someone is a way to show the other physically how you feel. Rule your mind lest it rule you. (Stolen from buddah)

Basically you gotta master your own desires before you can become master of the world around you. A Disciplined man is more feared than an undisciplined man. IF we weren't disciplined we would be a drunk and a whoremonger like blackmoor. We clearly know who's the better of the two. And Uther/silverhand are powerful BECAUSE of their discipline, dedication, and faith.

>Keep up your concentration, you will find the balance and calmness inside you.
>Focus on the people relying on you to overcome this trial.

>23, Success!

You didn't need to answer immediately, she already should know what you would say. Feeling her breathing on your face, you just concentrated inward into the mana inside you. You would find the balance and stability from it.

The churning sea of fire was constant, now boiling as a whirlwind thanks to the turmoil in your mind. But it had been with you now for months and you had learned to live with the feeling. The mana was just like breathing or beating of your heart to you.

The fire was calm and soothing, capable of immense destruction and death, yet something that brings warmth and life. Uncontrollable, yet controlled in so many ways as a tool. So you concentrated on it.

You could sense the annoyance of Malevus Thing and then her backing away, her breathing disappearing off your face.

The sea of fire was calming, you could feel the mana warming you up inside. The fear and anxiety were slowly being pushed out as you kept your eyes closed. You had concentrated on the mana like this before, but it hadn't helped you to calm down in a situation like this. This was working.

"You…" Malevus Thing hissed at you.

"You are wrong." You interrupted her and opened your eyes. Staring at her through your dark glasses, the Malevus Thing felt weak. "True strength is from mastering your primal side. Discipline is what made me enjoy individual combat. Comradery is what makes me fight next to my men. Sleeping with someone is a way to show the other physically how you feel. Rule your mind lest it rule you."

The throne room in your mind started to clear, the shadows disappeared and the sickly green light faded.

"You aren't going to rule over me, not now, not ever." You told her.

Malevus Thing looked furious as it stared at you and then with a shriek she collapsed on the floor.

You blinked once and she disappeared. You blinked again and the throne room was gone. You blinked for the third time and the throne room had been replaced by the softness of Jandice's breasts.

"Are you awake?" Jan asked you carefully. She held your head against her chest, caressing and brushing your hair. Her holding you like this was very soothing.

"I am…" You whispered.

"You had a nightmare, I woke up when you were trashing in your sleep." Jan told you.

"Did I say anything?" You asked her.

"No, just mumbled a bit." Jan told you and continued. "Your heart was racing and your breathing was ragged. I tried to calm you down…"

You returned her hug and enjoyed the warmth of her touch. Closing your eyes again, you just enjoyed this feeling, this safety.

"You had an anxiety attack, I had to hold you still." Jan said and kissed your brow.

"Thank you." You mumbled back to her. She had probably helped you to calm down in your sleep.

"Al… your eyes were open during this… they glowed with a green shade." Jan said to you with a tint of a concern in her voice.

You lifted your head off her chest and looked into her eyes.

"Are they still glowing?" You asked hurriedly.

"No, it disappeared when you calmed down." Jan said to you. "It wasn't normal."

You were glad to hear that and pressed your head against her neck.

"Thank you…" You whispered.

"What happened Al? That wasn't a normal nightmare if your eyes flared with Fel…" her voice was concerned.

Holding you tenderly and brushing your hair, you felt safe and calm under her embrace. You could stay like this forever.

"Please tell me… I want to help you Al…" Jan asked you.

>It was just a nightmare, you don't want to concern her more or tell her any details about the Fel.
>Tell her that you have seen nightmares since the incident. This isn't the first time.
>She should know a bit, the Fel is causing this. Your mind creates these nightmares as you don't accept it.

You took a deep breath and rolled on your back. Staring at the dark roof, you exhaled slowly.

"Since the incident I have had these nightmares." You told her while looking up. "For some reason my mind creates these dreams…"

Now it was Jan's turn to roll closer to you as she placed her head on your chest. Carefully caressing her head and feeling her wrap her hands and legs around you, you felt safe again.

"The Fel does something, I don't know what, but I don't want it." You said to her. "Sorry, you shouldn't have had to see that."

"Don't apologise, it is not your fault." Jan whispered back.

"I don't want to involve you in any of this." You told her. "But could you… if you know anything about Fel, when I show you what I have learned…"

You didn't get a chance to finish as Jan kissed you. Her smile was pleasant when he let her lips part yours.

"Of course, I won't pry further, I just don't want to see you hurt." She said to you.

"Thank you Jan…"

Kissing you again, the two of you let the passion run wild again.

You felt somewhat knackered. Bit too much wine the evening before. Then all the flirting back and forth had gotten both of you quite turned on which led into Jan's nails leaving scratch marks on your back. The nightmare and the passion that followed it early in the morning didn't help a bit.

Oh the irony of her wanting for you to sleep more.

"Alric, are you alright?" Malevus asked you as she made sure your clothes were all tidy.

"Just a bit tired, too much wine last night. Thank you for asking." You told her and stretched your back. "Are my clothes fine?"

"They are." Malevus told you. You chose to wear your normal clothes as armour would have been a bit too much, especially as you weren't going to join them in the field. "Are you going to do a speech?"

"Maybe a small one." You said to her. "You go first, I will check a couple of things first."

Your squire nodded and left your bedroom.

Closing your eyes, you took several deep breaths. It felt strange to see Malevus there all happy and energetic after your nightmares. The corpse of Malevus Thing was just like her, but horribly mutilated which bothered you. The previous times she had appeared had happened after you had used or demonstrated the Fel inside you. Now though you hadn't done anything like that and yet she appeared in your mind in the nightmare.

"Because I am you and you are me."

Opening your eyes and quickly turning around with a hand already ready to draw your sword, you found your bedroom empty.

"You are not me…" You mumbled and put on your stiff upper lip.

You had to go see your soldiers off, you didn't have time for anything like this. Yet you still couldn't shake the nagging feeling off your mind.

Either way, today would be a busy day. Better get to work then.

Your soldiers were milling outside the ground that had been their camp for a couple of weeks now. The tents had been taken down and the mules were all waiting to be laden with the equipment. Everything that could be done was ready.

"Any news?" You asked Normand.

"Nothing, soldiers from Tarren Mill had done a loop through the woods to warn the outlying farms and none had seen anything." He told you. He was wearing his old Alteraci plate mail.

"Good, good." You replied and watched the soldiers. "Can you get them in order, I would like to address them."

"I can, just a moment." He replied.

It didn't take long for the men to stand in formation. Ranks three deep, every soldier having the orange capes or cloaks with the black swooping falcon of Alterac embroidered on them. The pikemen had fixed orange strips of cloth on their pikes that fluttered in the wind. Only the archers had disregarded the orange cloaks, instead choosing dark green to brown robes just like Bill Rover had originally ordered them.

For you a horse cart had been moved in front of the men and climbing up, you could see nearly one hundred and fifty men in front of you. Only some footmen and the rogues were missing, as they were waiting for the main forces elsewhere.

"Today starts a new era in the history of Alterac. We are going to accomplish something my and your ancestors never couldn't accomplish. Strahnbrad Hills will be reclaimed and brought under direct Alteraci rule."

"Last year we marched there, defeated the Syndicate forces and showed the whole world that Alterac stood on her two feet and was proactive in reclaiming her lands from bandits and other threats. We showed them that our work is beneficial to everyone in bringing security and prosperity to the whole region."

"Now that work will be finished."

"As you march into Strahnbrad Hills be watchful where you step, for there could be still threats out there. Trolls could march down from the mountains, caves could have wicked beasts inside or remnants of the Syndicate forces who survived through the winter. It won't be easy, as much as they could work against us, the terrain itself is unforgiving. No wonder our ancestors could never accomplish what we will, but we are men of different breed. We will succeed."

1/2
>>
>>5889337

You kept a pause long for a purpose as you looked through the ranks one by one.

"I am frustrated that I cannot join you due to my health. I should be with you, marching ahead of the column, sharing the fires during the nights and the shieldwall in the battle. But I can't, so I feel like I have let you down." You told them, taking a bit of a different approach at the end of your speech. "You know your duty, your officers have their orders. In a week or two the rest of Strahnbrad Hills will be ours and the tools for the prosperity of Alterac are in our hands. With or without me you are going to accomplish that, I have my full trust in you. So go and make yourself a part of the history of Alterac, for we will succeed!"

"ALTERAC STANDS!"

You saw them off, shaking the hands of every man as they marched past you. That was the least you could do. Now everything was in their hands and you could only do but wait.

The field outside of Tarren Mill was empty, just a few locals lingered there who hadn't left back to their homes or work. Quite many had come to see the event, even Mayor Fowley who also had left back to the town hall.

"It was a good speech." Malevus told you.

"Thank you Malevus, hope it worked." You replied. Annoyingly it had been the soldiers who had been most taken back by your eyes and the rumours. Placing a bit of weight in terms of trust and emphasis in how historical this event was hopefully keeps the men motivated.

"What now my Prince?" Sir Gravis asked.

"Good question. It will take maybe a week till we hear anything, if we hear anything." You said and stretched your back.

You only had a few things that you should do in your mind. After that it is just waiting and busy work most likely.

"Alright, let's go back to work then." You told them and walked back towards the town. Now just what would you do today?

>Go see Father Hampton. He has given you good guidance before and maybe he could help you with the Fel.

I did remember it! But a proper launch ceremony/declaration that really hammers it home that "hey this thing is happening" hasn't happened. Many who know about it, don't yet care about it that much, because what has changed outwardly in Tarren Mill or elsewhere? Your men here before and now they will be here in the future?

I should have worded that better though, QM is sleepy...

When you enter Tarren Mill through its front gate, taking an immediate right turn you will find the stables built against the town wall. Going past the stables there are workshops and ironworkers who repair and fit horse and ox carts and beyond them are warehouses and the town granary. One of the warehouses had been rented by you as a place to store equipment and supplies for your men.

Now though the warehouse was half-empty and the goblin Krix Wiklish had turned it into his makeshift workshop, while waiting for his colleagues to arrive. And for you it would be smart to go check the goblin and what he is doing regularly, especially to ask how the preparations for the oil rig have started.

As you approached the warehouse, you saw its doors being open. Suddenly there was a great sputtering swoosh sound that finished with a window shaking bang. And next dark smoke left the warehouse through the door.

"By the Light!" You shouted. Your knights and few bystanders ran in to see what had happened.

When you reached the door, you saw that everything seemed to be alright. Just that the goblin and everything around him was covered in black soot.

"What the Fel happened here?" You asked as you pushed past your knights. "Is there a fire?"

"Doesn't look like it, but we will check." Sir Gravis said and gave you space.

"Master Wiklish, what did you do?" You asked the goblin who tried to clean his monocle without much success.

"Can't get the mixture to burn steadily." He said and sounded defeated. "It needs to burn at a constant rate, but it doesn't."

"What mixture?" You asked as curiosity won over Malevus who went to probe a log tied on a table. One end had a hole drilled into it.

"Rocket fuel of course!" Wiklish said and stared at Malevus. "That is the testing device for it."

"A log with a hole?" Malevus asked curiously.

"You fill the hole with the mixture and set it alight. The log should be sturdy enough to not splinter when things go sideways." Wiklish explained.

"Rockets? Are you trying to make rockets for me?" You asked him. "Those things dwarfs make that fly into the sky and go boom?"

You had heard about them, the dwarfs from Ironforge knew how to make them, but you had never seen them.

"Yes those, but without their plans and notes, I have to figure things out by myself. Test things out." Wiklish said to you.

"That is your weapon, your idea? Rockets?" You were somewhat unsure about this and it showed.

Wiklish saw your reaction and picked up a nearby broom to demonstrate, making it lean on a chair on an angle.

"You take a long stick, strap the rocket to one end with a bomb on top of it. You light the fuzes, the rocket propelles the stick through the air into your enemies where the bomb then… kaboooom!" Wiklish explained to you enthusiastically and mimicked the explosion with his hands and mouth. "Debris and dead enemies everywhere!"

1/2
>>
>>5891097

"Only thing I am seeing are soot and concerned locals everywhere." You said back to him.

"Prince Alric, this will work!" Wiklish said back to you.

"But before it works, I won't have a chance of you accidentally burning this warehouse and half of the town." You told the goblin sternly. "Next time you test this thing, you need to go out to the fields far enough from the town and the farms."

"Yes of course…" He said back somewhat hesitantly.

"Do you understand?" You continued sternly. "Or no funding."

"Yes, of course. Testing will happen outside." Wiklish stiffened up when he heard your ultimatum.

"Good, now how about the oil rig, have you started the work?" You asked and switched the subject.

"I have sent the messages, my colleagues should be arriving here in a couple of weeks." Wiklish told you.

"And what will you do meanwhile?" You asked. "Outside of the rockets?"

"I will source the materials, logs, nails and tar so on so on." Wiklish said. "When Master Blacksteel returns, we can start gathering what we need."

"Alright, sounds good." You said back. If things go as planned, you don't mind him developing the rockets in the meantime.

"Prince Alric, I do need to ask something." Wiklish said to you?

"What is it?"

"Regarding the rockets, could I hire some assistants? Take some of the migrants that arrived? I could use more hands." Wiklish asked you. "Helps things progress faster."

Having just seen how the mixture failed, the testing and building of the rockets seems a somewhat dangerous process. How many workers could you seriously spare to him?

Finally caught up to the caught, it's been wild reading the archives.
Points:
-Finders fee awarded to Jandice identifying the oil field to Alterac? We haven't profited from it yet so monetary compensation seems premature plus she's a rich Barov, but it seems honest.
-What happened to the camp of Blackrock demon summoners who stole peasants? I hope the land there was salted and light-consecrated.
-Patrol boats up and down Darrowmere River watching for gnolls, in addition to the trade cog, seems a damn good idea when it can be afforded. It keeps the neighbours honest.
-Need to do more with that iron mine. If Alterac has a surplus of trees, then we could make charcoal and steel mills and sell that to the Alliance Naval Base, if the tech of day allows this. Warcraft 2 blacksmith upgrade had steel as tier 2 weapons and armor, before mithril.
-Captain Garside needs a promotion to Colonel, and Cromwell needs to become a Captain as Garside approaches retirement.
-Church of the Light are doing us and Father Hampton a disservice by not giving a fulltime cleric, but Hampton is the best option for us really.

Solid quest, thanks for a wonderful read Medivh and looking forward to more.

"You can hire them, but make it very clear that they are working on something very dangerous." You told the goblin. "How many do you realistically need?"

"Dozen or so?" Wiklish replied.

"You get ten."

"Thank you Prince Alric." He said back to you.

"Now then, get most of the soot cleaned, I want to know more about the oil rig and the materials." You said to him.

>6

You spent the morning with the still mostly soot covered goblin going over the plans. Wood would be transported from your lumberyards, nails and other iron consumables made by the blacksmith in Dawnholme or purchased elsewhere.

Really the biggest difficulty would be transporting all the things that are needed to where the oil rig will be built. But even if that is a laborious task, there is little that oxen cannot be used to pull behind them.

When midday arrived, so did the clouds. A slight drizzle covered Tarren Mill, the first sign of the spring rains.

It was an annoying timing, but the rains had already been a bit late. The farmers would be happy about this, but everyone else not so much. Guards covered themselves with their cloaks, those with stalls outside threw tarps over them to protect their goods. It wouldn't take long for the central road to turn into a muddy field.

You just hoped that the rain wouldn't turn into any worse as it could then make the job of your soldiers a harder task.

"Malevus, here are a bunch of letters. See that they are sent post-haste." You said to her and gave her the letters you had already finished before.

Your squire took the small pile of letters from you.

"A lot of writing." She mentioned.

"Yes, a lot has happened." You replied and leaned back on the chair.

You had written the letter to Calia as well, asking for her health and how she had been, while telling her what you had been doing lately. She must have heard the rumours and the news about your 'poisoning' and you told her that you were mostly fine now, you were on a road to full recovery.

But you didn't dare to tell her the truth, if she was still sick and in bad health, she didn't need any more bad news or things that shook her. Neither did you tell her about Jandice, it would be uncouth to do so right now. Her mind needed only good news and while getting 'poisoned' wasn't exactly that, you recovering from it was.

"Alric, could I ask you something?" Malevus suddenly asked you.

"What is it?" You were curious about what was in her mind.

Malevus put the letters on a table and thought for a few seconds.

"Is there anything going on between you and Lady Jandice?" Malevus asked. "I have just noticed that the two of you are spending a lot of time together?"

"You want to know that?" You asked and was a bit surprised. You thought that people wouldn't notice anything this fast.

"I am just wondering if you are talking about business or some cooperation between you and her family?" Malevus said to you.

Oh. She hadn't noticed anything yet.

"Or is there something… more." Malevus gave you a questioning look.

Darn. She might have noticed something. What would you tell her? The relationship you have with Jandice is supposed to be a secret after all. Maybe tell Malevus something small that while true, doesn't give the full picture? Maybe she should know, you trust her after all.

All of these are true, though the magic is still being kept low. If her family was in town then Alric would probably be spending time making nice with them too, to improve neighbourly relations and find common ground.

"It is part of my job so to speak. Maintaining a good relationship with our neighbours is a must." You told Malevus and continued. "If it means going out for rides or having dinners, then that needs to be done. Surely during your time with Master Voren'thal, he hosted many visitors of status?"

"He did, you are right." Malevus said back. "I just…"

"Thought that there is more to this?" You asked and raised your eyebrows.

"Well…" a shade of red started to creep on her cheeks.

"There is, she is going to give me pointers on magic." You told her.

"Magic? But wasn't that supposed to be a secret?"

"She is an archmage, it didn't take long for her to realise that something had changed." You said and feigned annoyance. "And when she learned, of course she was surprised, but then she wanted to help me."

"Archmage giving you some advice…" Malevus mused aloud.

"Lady Jandice probably feels like she wants to pay back what I did in Durnholde, if I were to guess." You told her.

Malevus nodded and picked the letters.

"Then I will leave you with her. You better listen to Lady Jandice, don't miss this opportunity Alric." Malevus said to you.

"I won't miss this." You replied. "Tomorrow after breakfast, prepare yourself for sparring, I want to get these feet working."

"Understood, good night then."

"Good night Malevus."

Your redheaded long-eared squire left your bedroom. She had grown a lot as a person under your service and you did feel like she was one of your best friends. A genuinely nice person, not a single bad bone in her body. That is why it did feel a bit off to lie to her, well not tell her the whole truth. But promises were promises, your relationship with Jandice was supposed to be a secret. It would probably be smart to be a bit more careful when in public with her.

You stood up and walked to the window. The drizzle coloured the sky grey and red as the last rays of the sun tried to pierce through it. Your army was out there somewhere, everything was in their hands now.

"There, done." Jan said to you as she put the brush and the small jar of blue paint away.

"Thanks Jan." You said back. The elven sigils had started to fade away so you had asked her help to reapply them, it was difficult for you to reach behind your back after all.

"Impressive to see this actually in work." She said to you.

"And forbidden by your people." You replied as you stood up and picked the gnoll necklace and put it around your neck.

Jan looked at you and was a bit amused. Seeing you stand there wearing only your braies and the necklace, being covered in blue sigils and having the draconic glyphs over your heart and chest. You had smartly chosen to brush your hair before coming into her room.

"Like what you see?" You teased her.

"Al… this is supposed to be a serious moment… though you do look rather handsome." Jan replied and stifled a chuckle.

No Fel, not now. If using it caused you nightmares, you didn't really want to see them again.

"Alright, I have learned something that I could show you. Not much, but it is still something." You said to her.

Checking that there was no carpet, just wooden floor beneath you just in case, you extended your right arm palm open.

Then with just a single deep breath, a small egg sized flame appeared above your open palm.

For a moment the flame had the green tint before returning back to normal. The flames licked upwards, dripping small droplets of liquid flame on your hand where they fizzled out in seconds. It didn't take that much concentration to keep this flame alive, but you knew not to push yourself too far.

Closing your palm the fire disappeared nearly just as quickly.

"Incredible, just incredible." Jan said to you. "Less than half-year and you can create fire and have it under control like that."

"It has taken a lot of studying." You replied.

"Incredible to see the sigils working, at the same time it shows me why they were made forbidden." Jan became more serious when she finished.

"Control of magic." You said.

"Control of magic, Kirin Tor would be livid if everyone was using these methods." Jan said and continued. "That being said a legion of magi would love to study you, I am witnessing something from history brought back into life."

"I prefer not being a test subject, thank you very much." You said with a smile.

"But I did see something." Jan said and was still serious.

"The green tint, yeah Fel leaks when I cast my limited magic." You told her and continued. "I intend to burn the Fel away when I return back home, if it is possible, I don't want it in me."

Jan gave you a look before turning towards a bundle of spruce twigs that were in a vase. It wasn't the flower season after all. Then she did something you hadn't expected at all.

With a wave of her hand the spruce twigs withered and died. Then a green light bathed the room as a small ball of Fel shone brightly like a sun above her hand before disappearing and allowing the room to return to normal.

"We aren't supposed to know or learn about Fel, but in practice we have to. You can't send a wet behind the ears mage to deal with warlocks or worse, it has to be us the archmages." Jandice told you and continued. "We have to learn how to protect ourselves and others."

She walked to you and placed her hand on your chest. Her touch was warm and assuring.

"I can't really teach you how to do it, I know only a little, but I know that Fel can be controlled and you can protect yourself from it. Same way as with all other magic, you need to be in charge, not it." Jan said to you and again continued. "Whoever your teacher is, they know what they are doing. Ask them for advice and I believe you will be fine."

"Thank you… Jan." You replied.

"I know it worries your mind, but everything will be fine." Jan said. "I believe in you."

Awkward silence fell over the two of you as she withdrew her hand off your chest.

"Let's not waste time standing here then, what did you want to learn?" Jan asked you.

"I was thinking of something simple, something suitable for a beginner." You said to her.

You had only a couple of days remaining with her so everything overtly complex was out of the window. And besides, you should learn the basics first before trying to reach further.

"Something suitable for a beginner? I have something in mind." Jan replied back to you.

Jan suggested that she could teach you arcane writing, that is using your mana instead of ink.

While it doesn't sound overly fancy, the applications for it are quite numerous. Being able to write when not having ink, ability to write invisible text, ability to write on any surface including on air, the writing being weatherproof and so on and so on. But for you what made this interesting was the fact that you were studying Draconic and knowing that the glyphs have power, maybe this could be the way to learn how to harness it?

So the plan was simple, each evening Jan would teach you the absolute basics and then in your free time you would practise alone. She hoped that you would learn this trick before she has to leave, but having seen how you had mastered creating a fire in under six months, surely this shouldn't be that hard?

Right. Right?

Your fingers were still tingling as you grabbed the wooden training sword. Last night you had some serious difficulties at learning arcane writing, causing both you and Jandice to get frustrated before calling it a day and concentrating on more satisfactory things to do.

At least you had managed to create a smear on paper, but that's it.

The yard behind the barracks was muddy and neither you nor Malevus wanted to get thrown or end up slipping in the mud. Mostly the goal today was to get some light exercise and get your body accustomed with daily sparring.

"Are you ready Malevus?" You asked her and noticed her having taken a longsword instead of her usual sword and board combo. "Trying something new?"

"When you were bedridden, the knights insisted that I should learn how to fight with this." Malevus said to you. "They call it versatility."

"Well they are right about that. Now though let's take this easy." You said and took a low ready stance.

You had opted to wear your black arming jacket and trousers. Now with some padding getting hit wouldn't hurt, at least not too much.

Thankfully neither of you took this too seriously, instead telegraphing your strikes and movements so that the other can react to them. The fluidity and correct performance triumphed over the want to win.

And it was the right choice, your movement was still stiff as the wooden longswords rhythmically impacted on each other. Several local footmen stayed to watch as Malevus and you went through different stances and ripostes to them.

In the end you were slightly winded. This was a start and you would build on this with time.

As the day passed into the afternoon, you had spent some time trying to make sense of arcane writing with some success. If you concentrated really hard, you could draw an uneven line on paper.

Progress!

But you knew you had other things to do as well today, people to meet and things to discuss.

It's been too long since Hampton was seen.
Though discussing the league has important implications. I think Alric should ask Hampton's opinion on the local lords too, he would surely have his own thoughts as the local Church of Light minister.

It had started to rain again. Wind threw light drizzle against the window, alerting you of the need to take a cloak to outside. Pulling the Robe of Obfuscation round your shoulders and taking your cane, you made your way downstairs where Malevus was already waiting for you.

During your stay in here now that your army had left, for your security you had Sir Gravis and the knights follow you or stay nearby when you were out. Malevus of course followed you everywhere, but the Royal Foot Guards had a more passive role this time. Two of them stayed downstairs at Orange Prince, two at the front gate and two at the back gate while the remaining four were resting.

Pulling the hood over your head, it and the rain muffled the sounds around you. The central street across Tarren Mill to the church was mostly empty of people, just a couple men going around their duties. Some stopped to watch as you made your way surrounded by the knights and Malevus.

Yet you had this nagging feeling at the back of your head that something wasn't right.

Looking around, your eyes scanned the surroundings and when they found one of the men who had stopped to see what was going on, you recognised him. The well dressed gentleman from two days ago.

He then nodded to you and somehow you knew you were in danger.

Assassins!

An arrow flew right past your face, hitting Thomas on his breastplate and splintering into dozens of pieces.

You grabbed the surprised knight and pulled him in between you and where the arrow flew from.

“Protect the Prince!” Sir Gravis shouted and quickly put on his barbute.

Arrows flew past you, hitting the knights on their plate or scattering past your feet hitting the muddy ground.

The knights quickly put their bodies between you and the perceived threat, archers taking their stand above a parked horse cart, their orange bandanas covering their faces.

Syndicate!

“Quick inside!” Sir Gravis shouted again as he instructed Thomas to break a door open and get you away from the incoming arrow fire.

With a crash the knight broke through the door, not even trying to open it normally. Sir Gravis dragged you in from your shoulders, making sure that both Empleton and him were in front of you.

Malevus had pulled her shield out and placed it in front of her, a trio of arrows now sticking on it. She just concentrated on protecting herself, not being able to be of much help right now.

Entering the building, you found it to be a linen and cloth store. The woman inside panicked and ran into the backroom while arrows broke through the window, pincushioning the rolls of cloth inside.

“Aagh!” Joe shouted, an arrow having pierced the mail skirt and punctured into his buttocks.

“Malevus, get him inside!” Sir Gravis shouted orders again as an arrow hit him square on his helmet, deflecting harmlessly aside.

The knights and Malevus scampered to get inside the store as arrows rained upon them and when finally everyone was inside, you could catch some breath.

“Malevus, see to Joe, we will handle this.” You told her as you took cover behind the counter and looked over it through the now broken window. She would be occupied with that for now.

Four men were standing on the horse cart, there were also at least seven men approaching the cloth store, one of them wearing a breastplate. Their leader?

The archers kept loosing arrows as two other men lifted a brazier on the horse cart and started to hand arrows to them. Not normal arrows, as the archers lit them on fire with the brazier before loosing them at you.

Four fire arrows struck the building, three of them getting through the broken window and one hitting a bundle of cloth. Empleton quickly snatched the arrow and stomped on it to extinguish it, preventing the fire from catching.

“Damn it, they are trying to burn us alive.” Sir Gravis said.

1/2
>>
>>5899174

A second volley of arrows flew in, one hitting Empleton without much effect, but the rest hitting things that were more or less flammable. You wouldn’t have much time till the store would catch on fire.

You didn’t have your armour which made you vulnerable to arrrows, but you had your Cinder Sword and the Robe of Obfuscation. You could escape from the backdoor and have the Syndicate assassins chase you, or you could face them. They knew that you were inside, but they couldn’t see you which means that Robe of Obfuscation could work, it would avert their eyes. If you were to wrap the robe around you, you could slip outside and catch them completely unaware, giving your knights a chance to charge out and fight them. An opening that could win you the battle. But was it too dangerous?

>Backdoor! Or a window there, get out of the building and let them chase you while you wait for reinforcements.
>Use the Robe of Obfuscation and target the archers, take out the fire support and prevent the building from catching fire. Or you getting pincushioned.
>Use the Robe of Obfuscation and target the armed men. Surprise their hired muscles and even the numbers for your knights to deal with
>Use the Robe of Obfuscation and cut off the head of their leader. Without the leadership, the rabble should fall fast.

The moment you pull out the Cinder Sword and start whacking people with it, they are going to notice it. Basically Robe of Obfuscation gives you an opening to deliver uninterrupted opening strike. Though most isolated are the archers and their helpers at the back.

>16, Success!

“I will get you an opening.” You told Sir Gravis. “You will know when to charge out and deal with the rest of them.”

You glanced around, Sir Gravis, Empleton and Thomas were all skilled and most importantly armoured knights. What they were facing were armed, but not armoured men. You just needed to create an opening for them, to prevent this store from burning down.

“Prince Alric, what are you planning?” Sir Gravis asked hurriedly.

“You will see.” You told him and wrapped the Robe of Obfuscation around you and pulled the hood over your head.

“Prince Alric!” Sir Gravis nearly shouted to you as you took steps towards the broken down door.

Your cane fell on the floor with a clank as you stepped out of the store. Observing the Syndicate assassins approaching you and your knights, not a single one of them realised that you had just slipped out. Another volley of fire arrows flew past you and you knew that the time was now limited.

As you walked past them, you crossed in front of their supposed leader, his eyes averting away from you unconsciously. The robe was working.

The four archers stood on the cart, their vantage point off the ground, but not from your reach. You circled around the cart to get behind them and standing next to the two assistants, you knew it was now your time to act.

With a single clean motion you drew the Cinder Sword, the grey blade shedding embers and steam as rain caught the hot metal. One of the two assistants handing the archers more arrows realised that their target was suddenly in their midst. But his realisation was already too late to help anyone.

Grasping the hilt with both hands, you swung the sword horizontally from right to left, the blade cutting through leather, flesh and bone without stopping. You allowed your movement to flow as you turned towards the surprised man, raising the Cinder Sword above your head and bringing it down aimed at the man’s head.

Cinder Sword cut through the leather cap like it wasn’t there, cleaving the man’s head and face in two in a gruesome testament of the blade’s magical sharpness. Exiting at the throat, you pulled the blade close to you, drawing arterial blood with it over your face and clothes.

The two archers you had slashed at first now realised that something had happened as their legs couldn’t support them anymore. Having severed them at the shins, the two men fell on the cart screaming in pain.

One man was thoroughly dead, two were going to die in a couple of moments from shock and blood loss. And it had just taken you two seconds. The remaining two archers now realised that something was going on, reaching for their swords as did the second assistant who tried to draw his own sword.

Oh they didn’t know that they were already dead.

Taking a step back, you knew you had to deal with the archers quickly before they had a chance to act. There were just a couple obstacles for you to deal with first now that they were alerted.

Taking a step back, your eyes caught one of the men whose legs you had cut underneath him reaching for his blade. A quick slash later his head was severed off his body and rolled on the muddy ground.

“ALTERAC STANDS!” You shouted as you stepped on the backstep of the cart and pushed yourself up.

Immediately you had to deflect a sword strike away from you. Then a second and a third one. Catching the archers sword with the guard of your own, with a grunt you pushed it away just in time to block a strike aimed at your feet by the assistant on the ground.

Three to one, no surprise behind you anymore. Yet you didn’t feel like you were in danger, the excitement of being in a battle driving you forward.

The archer tried to slash at you, but this time you deflected the blade away and immediately went for a riposte. Cinder Sword shed embers as metal hit metal and with a twist of your wrist, it skimmed past the guard and pushed into the man’s arm. With a scream as his arm was split in two, the man dropped his sword and this gave you another opening to lunge forward. Cinder Sword cut into his throat and slashing down the blade cut his chest open.

The man dropped dead like a sack of wheat, causing the second archer and the assistant to hesitate a bit. Four done, two to go.

The lull didn’t last long as both men went on an offensive, forcing you to block and deflect attacks from two directions. You knew you couldn’t sustain this that much longer, without your armour you couldn’t afford any mistakes. Again though you didn’t feel like you were in danger, in fact for the first time in a long time you felt alive. The thrill of a battle, courage flowing in your veins, your legs didn’t feel that sluggish. You felt like you could live on forever.

Oh they tried to assassinate the wrong bloody Prince. You were smiling.

Kicking the brazier, you send the hot charcoals all over the horse cart. Several fire arrows were accidentally lit and the archer had to take several steps back, giving you a bit more room.

The fire gave you an idea, maybe you could set the man on fire with your magic? He was mostly dry and now there was a lot of fire and charcoal around him. Yes, this could work and his compatriots seeing one of theirs on fire probably would unnerve them a lot

Currently you can do it only once with your own Mana, but you can either boost the power and potency of the spell with Fel, or use Fel to cast the spell instead. At the moment Alric will prefer to use his own Mana first so Fel, if not used to boost the magic, can be used to cast a spell for a second time.

The second archer was a good swordsman. His swings were precise and by the book. He switched between stances smoothly and kept the Cinder Sword away from his body and arms. He clearly had spent a considerable amount of time training his skills with arms.

Though that didn't matter at all when you caught his downward strike, redirecting it away from you and quickly with your riposte you lunged forward and slashed his head off.

Five done, one to go. Knowing that the last man was still active, you pivoted to face him. Though there wasn't much to face as the man was thoroughly horrified.

You were covered in blood, you had just killed five men maybe in just a minute and the Cinder Sword despite the rain had heated up, changing its colour to the white red of heated steel and charcoal while steam rose off it. Staring down at the man through your dark glasses, your eyes pierced into his. He was scared, he was terrified.

"Do you still want to try to kill me?" You asked him between breaths. "I have the high ground."

The man didn't answer as he just gripped the hilt of his sword harder and grimaced.

With a scream he tried to swing at your feet with his sword, but you caught it effortlessly with your own. A simple swing and using his own sword as a leverage later, the sword flung off his hands and flew through the air. Continuing the motion, you struck the man hard with the flat of your blade straight into his head.

With a thud and a thumph, both the sword and the man fell on the muddy ground. He was knocked right out, a prisoner for you to interrogate.

Though you knew the battle wasn't over yet, sounds of fighting came all around you. The cart you were standing had also caught on fire and the flames licked your boots.

"Ah fuck." You muttered as you jumped off the cart as quickly as possible.

Your legs didn't like the sudden jolt and impact, but otherwise you were feeling incredible. The rush of the battle, the courage required to fight like you do ran through your veins. Even if you were breathing heavily, you didn't feel tired. At least not yet.

"There you are Princeling!" A shout came. The assassin wearing the breastplate marched towards you. He carried a longsword and by his looks seemed to be the leader of these men. He seemed more dangerous, more experienced. Behind him your knights were still fighting the assassins, you counted two of them already dead on the ground.

Straightening your back you took a better grip of the Cinder Sword. Any fatigue you had seemed to disappear the moment your eyes locked with his.

No tricks, no traps, just an assassin with a longsword walking towards you with a goal of killing you.

Unless you kill him first.

Is Overpower, the warrior's attack that becomes available that cannot be avoided after a previous attack was avoided, available?
>>
>>5904807

Not really, I haven't used warrior abilities appearing in the game with Alric. Now with there being mages etc around and serving Alric and him studying magic, for sake of clarity listing their spells and skills is needed. While different melee attacks and techniques are just there, nothing is always automatic unavoidable hit. A skilled opponent might know the counters to things like that, while Alric waltzes through rabble without much issues.

>29, Crit Success!

The world around you disappeared, rain had turned from drizzle into something heavier, yet you didn't hear the swoosh of the rain hitting the mud or the roofs around you. Everything else was distant to you, only the man in the breastplate and carrying a longsword mattered. Your ears picked up his footsteps as you took a low ready stance and prepared for action.

Rain dripped off your chaperon on your bloodsoaked black clothes. The Robe of Obfuscation and the arming jacket and trousers had been dyed with the blood of the men you had just killed. You felt your heartbeat in your chest as your eyes found his. And you only saw one thing.

Fear

The assassin sprung into action, going for textbook downward strikes from right to left and back to right. Two first you easily deflected away, but the third one you blocked stopping his motion. As quickly as it was possible, you swung the Cinder Sword around his sword and with your riposte tried to catch his head only for the tip to cut a deep gash on his brow.

At that moment you knew that this fight would be over. You were smiling.

Blood dripped over his face disrupting his vision. The assassin nevertheless went for another set of attacks, his quick jabs and slashes not getting through your defences. Every time the Cinder Sword was in between you and him.

He tried to go for a strong downward swing, but you caught it with the guard of your sword and locked yourself into a test of strength with him. You were laughing.

"What are you laughing!" The assassin demanded as he tried to overpower you which was exactly what you wanted.

Stepping to your left, you stopped resisting and redirected his motion down to your right. Letting the longsword guide him, you found yourself standing next to him. And then you brought the Cinder Sword down.

The magical blade bit into his right shoulder effortlessly cutting through leather, flesh and bone, severing his right arm off. Allowing the motion to continue, you hooked the tip around his knee and pulled back. With his upper torso still wanting to go forward and now your sword pulling his leg back with force, the assassin lost his stability. As he started to fall, Cinder Sword cut through his knee allowing you to bring the blade up and turn it around in your hands.

And when he hit the mud face first, you drove the blade through his back.

The sound returned slowly into the world as you breathed heavily, your rapid heartbeat ringing in your years and pounding in your chest. You knew even if you were approaching exhaustion, you were sure about one thing.

You felt alive.

Shaking the thought away, you pulled the Cinder Sword off his back and flicked whatever blood that hadn't boiled away off. Looking around the sounds of the battle were fading, just moans of dying men and the crackle of the burning horse cart.

Sir Gravis and the knights had finished the last men they had been facing and seeing their Prince standing in the middle of the wide street covered in blood, they ran to you as quickly as possible.

"Prince Alric… that blood?" Sir Gravis started to ask you.

"Not mine, I am fine." You said back and grasped his shoulder. Your legs started to lose strength.

"You sure?" Gravis asked as he moved to keep you up and standing.

"I am, I am… we just need to see that everything is under control." You said back to him.

The exhaustion seeped through your body as you sheath your sword.

"You are completely spent, let's get you off this street back inside." Sir Gravis said back to you. He meant the cloth store that hadn't caught on fire.

>Yes, go see how Joe and Malevus are faring while catching your breath.
>No, you need to get to the front gate. It sounded like the battle was heaviest there. You need to see what has happened.
>Jandice told you that she would be seeing Mayor Fowley. You need to be sure that both of them are fine and unharmed.

Hearing a battle at the front gate? Where was this mentioned before?
>>

A detail that I forgot to mention. Whoops! I was supposed to mention it during this fight that you heard sounds of a battle at the front gate. Something bit bigger than what was going on around you. You can put this mistake in QM was tired category.

"Though you knew the battle wasn't over yet, sounds of fighting came all around you."

Adding more to this basically.

"Thomas, go fetch the vial from Malevus, she knows what I want." You said to one of the knights. She was still carrying it. "And then there should be a knocked out man behind the burning cart, make sure that he won't wake up and escape."

Thomas saluted you and left.

"You have something else in mind?" Sir Gravis asked.

"Yes, we need to check on Lady Jandice and Mayor Fowley." You said back. "I can't be the only target, they are just as important."

"Alright, just hold on my shoulder." Gravis said back and you replied with a nod.

The rain continued as you slowly walked through the town. You saw your Royal Foot Knights milling around the front gate with soldiers from Tarren Mill, messengers running back and forth. Though the front gate wasn't where you were going. Just before reaching the town hall, Thomas returned and passed you the vial. Drinking it in one go, you gave the vial back to him to return it to Malevus.

Stepping in the town hall, you had to look around as something had happened here.

"What the hell?" You said a loud and realised immediately how stupid that question was.

Next to the door laid one assassin with half of his chest caved in, purple smog and soot covering the wound. That must have been the work of Jandice. A second man was similarly slumped down on the stairs to the second floor and Empleton had to clear him out of the way to give you space. There was a third man by the open door to Fowley's study.

"Is everything alright?" You shouted into the room with your hand on the hilt of your sword.

"Alric? Is that you?" You heard Jandice shout back.

"Yeah, I am coming in!" You shouted back.

Stepping in, you kept holding on Sir Gravis. Inside the office on the other side stood Jandice holding her fencing sword and behind her stood Fowley. There was a dead assassin with cuts all over him on the floor.

"Jandice, are you alright?" You asked as you stepped forth letting go of Sir Gravis.

"Alric you are covered in blood!" Jandice replied urgently.

"It's not mine." You said back as she sheathed her sword.

"You sure?" There was concern in her voice as she walked to you and placed her hand on your shoulder.

"I am fine, not a single cut… I am just tired." You said back and looked into her eyes. Your words washing away her concerns.

"I will take your word for it." She said.

"What happened here?" You asked back.

"You tell me. We heard the commotion outside and when I went to see what was going on, those men charged in. I had to deal with them." Jandice replied.

"And looking at them you dealt with them well." You said and took a couple steps to take a seat. Your legs felt like jelly. "Syndicate, they tried to assassinate me. We dealt with them, and it looked like the guards dealt with the rest."

"Assassination?" Fowley asked and was surprised. "They really attacked here in force!"

"Orange bandanas and all, I was the target… and looks like the two of you too…" You said and sighed. "I am sorry, I attract too much unwanted action."

"No Prince Alric, it is our fault for allowing this to happen, our guards didn't spot anything irregular and couldn't prevent this. Tarren Mill will take responsibility for this." He said back to you. "The two of you stay here, you have already done enough for us, let me handle the things from here on."

"Mayor, are you sure? I am an archmage, I can deal with whatever needs to be done out there?" Jandice asked back.

"Let me be useful, I am the Mayor of this town for Light's sake." Fowley replied and turned towards you, asking silently for you to decide.

>Let Mayor Fowley take control of the situation from this point. Concentrate on resting and going through the events with Jandice.

"Alright, you handle this." You said and nodded to Fowley before continuing. "Sir Gravis, please escort him and make it known that he has my support."

"Will do Prince Alric." Sir Gravis nodded. "Anything else?"

"In fact yes, can you carry that body away? I don't think leaving it there is inappropriate." You told him and pointed at the dead assassin. "Oh one more thing, look out for a… middle aged man… Jandice, the man who ate alone a couple days ago."

"What of him? Is he linked to this?" Jandice asked confused.

"He looked at me before the assassins struck first… Sir Gravis inform the guards to not leave anyone out. I want that man found." You said to him.

"Understood." Sir Gravis replied and had Empleton drag the corpse away before leaving with Fowley. When the door closed, you sighed with relief.

"Unbelievable… to attack me in broad daylight like this." You said to particularly no one and let your shoulders slump.

"Let's worry about that later." Jandice walked to you and placed her hands on your shoulders. "The most important thing is that you are alive and well."

She leaned in to give you a kiss, the touch of her lips on yours sent a wave of electricity through you. Yeah, she was right.

"Al, I will go fetch you a bowl of water to wash your face. We can't have you look like a dirty bloody vagabond here." She said to you smiling and let go of your shoulders.

"Yes Jan." You said with a chuckle and watched as she walked away and out of the room.

Sighing deeply you thought about her having dealt with the men that came after her. Maybe you should talk with her about it this evening? Killing others impacts different people in different ways after all.

As you waited for her to return, you took off your glasses and let the wet and bloody robe of yours fall on the floor. Your chaperon hadn't survived without blood splatters either and especially your arming jacket was in an awful condition. There was a lot for someone to wash. You pushed yourself up and stretched your legs. It had been good that the fight hadn't lasted any longer or they would have started to give up. You hadn't felt your legs lagging behind you or slowing you during the fight, but now they were like a pair of heavy logs. You hoped that the vial would help you soon.

Walking to a mirror, you looked at your reflection. The young man you saw looked tired, face covered in half dried blood, hair messy and tangled. His Fel green eyes staring back at you.

"I felt alive…" You mumbled. It had been a strange feeling, something you hadn't exactly felt before. You hadn't felt like you were alone, like someone had guided your arm.

The weight of the situation started to hit you slowly, you had killed others before, many men and creatures had fallen before you. But you had never killed so many men this quickly and without any sliver of hesitation or errant thought.

And you smiled and laughed while doing so.

"Here's the water Al… Al are you there?" Jan asked as she stepped into the room carrying a bowl and seeing you staring at the mirror.

"Yeah yeah, just got lost in my thoughts." You said and returned back to reality.

You walked to the bowl and started washing your hands first.

"What was the spell you used in dealing with the assassins?" You asked Jan.

"The books call it an Arcane Missile, really I just launched pure arcane energy at them. What of it?" Jan asked you nonchalantly and picked your robe off the floor.

"Just wondered, never seen anything like that before." You said and moved to wash your face next.

"Mages usually learn it rather fast, but most end up preferring to use whatever element is their favourite." Jan replied back.

"I see… would it punch through a breastplate?" You asked back.

"Maybe? Probably the man just gets knocked on his back." Jan shrugged. "Why do you ask?"

"There was only one man with a breastplate amongst the men we faced." You said and thought how to continue.

"You have something in mind? A theory?" Jan replied and came to wash your glasses in the same bowl of water.

“These weren’t usual assassins, nothing like what we faced in Durnholde. They were professionals, while these guys? Thugs, rabble and bandits.” You told Jan. “Most likely they had infiltrated here if I were to guess…”

“Then we will learn more when their bodies are collected and stripped.” Jan replied. “If they had infiltrated Tarren Mill, then people would recognise them.”

You finished scrubbing your face and swiped the excess water off with a towel.

“They most likely had been watching my army leave and decided now to attack.” You said to her and pointed to your own face. “Did I get everything?”

“There’s still smudges, let me clean them away.” Jan replied and took the towel you were using and started to scrub your face. “I don’t think they expected me to be here, I mean Fowley would have been an easy target alone.”

“Yeah… you are right.” You replied as Jan scrubbed your face. Around your nose, behind the ears and finally your eyebrows.

“There… all good now.” Jan said with a smile.

“Do I look like a handsome rogue again?” You said to her and smirked. “And make all the ladies swoon over me?”

Jan looked at you and blinked several times, before sighing and shaking her head.

“Of all situations, you chose this?” She said bewildered, but then laughed.

“What?” You played coy and pretended not to understand.

“Your clothes are still all bloody Al!” Jan replied back.

“Yeah, so what? Does it take away from my handsomeness?” You replied and crossed your arms defensively.

“Al… no it doesn’t take anything away from that. You are still the same incredible person…” Jan relented and stepped closer, taking your hands and holding them.

“See, I was right.” You replied and leaned closer.

“Al…” Jan said as you felt her breath on your face and lips. Your bodies were getting closer and closer.

But just as your lips were to touch, you pulled away, causing Jan to be confused.

“You will have to wait till the evening.” You replied coyly.

“What…?” Jan replied.

“Well my clothes are all bloody, we can’t really get cuddly, can we?” You said matter of factly and let go of her.

Jan just looked at you and didn’t know what to say for a moment. Then she attempted to throw you with the damp towel and hit you smack dab on your chest.

“After all that, being nonchalant about your bloody clothes, now they end up being a thing you care about?” Jan said to you.

“Yep, you will have to wait till the evening.”

“Al, you are unbelievable…”

Jan could just shake her head while you just laughed.

The way the Syndicate had thrown these men at you concerned you, as did their use of fire arrows. They might have just wanted to be done with you as fast as possible and when that had failed tried to flush you out with the fire. Or they had a goal to cause as much chaos and destruction in Tarren Mill. To show the world that those who stand against the Syndicate will fail.

Neither you or Jandice didn’t really like that idea. Tarren Mill’s defences need to be shored up long term. As long as Syndicate exists as a threat and there are gnolls or trolls or orcs in the mountains, the town will never be fully safe.

While you rested, the process of collecting the bodies and taking an account of the situation had progressed. At one point Sir Gravis had come to give you and Jandice an update. In total 23 attackers had died, there were nearly two dozen who were wounded and are being tended by Father Hampton and his helpers in the church. Of your men outside of Joe there had been no casualties whatsoever, the Dark Iron armour had protected them splendidly. But there had been four fatalities and a dozen wounded amongst the guards of Tarren Mill.

And importantly to you, your legs didn’t feel as jelly as before so you had someone to fetch your cane from the cloth store. Now it was time for you to do something.

>Fresh clothes, you can’t go around in bloody clothes. Go switch to your normal clothes and leave the rest to be washed. You can also ask Monica about the lone man whom you had seen.

As much as it was fun to just mostly chat with Jandice and watch her fidget a bit with you around, you couldn’t be sitting and staying in the town hall forever. It was against your nature to stay still and not do anything, that had been the worst part of the incident. Being bedridden and unable to do anything is the worst thing to happen to you. So you took your cane, threw the damp Robe of Obfuscation over your shoulders and left the town hall.

The rain continued as heavy as it was before, washing you and Jandice who had thrown, or more like conjured her archmage’s robe over her shoulders. You spared a thought to your army in the Strahnbrad Hills right now, the spring rains won’t leave them alone either.

Thankfully it wasn’t a long distance to walk from the town hall to the front gate, just a hop basically.. When you arrived there, you found most of the guards taking cover from the rain, but your Royal Foot Guards braved the weather and let the rain wash over their Dark Iron armours.

And from them you learned mostly everything. Nearly at the same time as the assassins had ambushed you, a gaggle of men had attacked both the front and the back gate. At the front gate the fighting had been the heaviest and nearly had turned to the favour of the assassins when a score of riders had tried to break through. But when the remaining Royal Foot Guards had charged out of the barracks and joined the fray, the battle had quickly turned into your favour and the Dark Iron armours you had purchased had definitely been worth the coin you invested into them.

But the efforts to locate the middle aged man you had spotted hadn’t borne fruit. Fowley had sent his guards to check houses and with a full lockdown, the chance for him to escape had been low, yet he hadn't been found. At least not yet.

“The whole town is on lockdown, I have no idea how he could have escaped.” Mayor Fowley said to you as you stood on the steps of the barracks away from the rain.

“Just keep looking Mayor, he is somewhere out here, he can’t have slipped away.” You replied back and pushed your glasses to sit better on your nose.

“The front and back gates are now locked, but most of our guards and men are tending the wounded.” Fowley replied. The small bookish man was out of his element when it came to the military and soldiers.

“They will do their best, am I right Lady Jandice?” You said and turned towards her.

“You are right Prince Alric.” Jandice replied. The more cordial and regal way of speaking having returned when you were around others. “They know the weight of the situation.”

“Then I will place my trust on them.” You replied back to her and turned towards Fowley. “Though can Tarren Mill handle everything alone? Or does the Darrowmere League need to step in?”

“The League is just me and you Prince Alric.” Fowley said back to you.

“Does it have to?” You asked him and nudged towards Jandice. “The Barovs have the men and power and I think Lady Jandice would be willing to help us? Am I right?”

“If it benefits all of us, then maybe.” Jandice replied. “What do you have in mind Prince Alric?”

Both of these seem good. I'm not sure about Tarren recruitment, but their men seem to need upgrading from Green to Regular status.
The Barov estate isn't far away so it doesn't seem like we are recommending a major imposition to Jandice.
Alric's own efforts are diverted the the Hills and safeguarding Tarren Mill from that approach. I'm not sure over further extension until that matter is resolved and supplies are increased.

“House Barov has the manpower, maybe if you could have your father send a detachment of soldiers to Tarren Mill, the town would be well protected till my soldiers return from Strahnbrad Hills? Maybe till the men who are wounded have all healed up and recovered?” You asked Jandice.

“I was expecting more than that Prince Alric.” Jandice replied to you. “I can send a letter and later talk with my father.”

“Thank you Lady Jandice.” You said to her and continued. “Though you were right.”

“Right about what?” Jandice asked you.

“Of expecting more. It would be foolish for me to delay this any further so I will be direct. I want you in the Darrowmere League, either you alone or your family with you.” You told her, catching Mayor Fowley by a surprise.

“We just agreed to discuss that?” Fowley asked you.

“We all know how beneficial it could be for all of us, why wait when we could invite her into the League right here, right now.” You said back to him. “Or do you have opposing views?”

“No, I do not. I wasn’t just expecting this to happen so fast.” Fowley replied.

“So Lady Jandice, the invite has been presented to you.” You said.

The rain continued to fall and it was joined by distant rumbling of thunder. You looked at the dark sky and listened as the rain drowned other noises.

“Think about it, an union of Alterac and House Barov. Wasn’t that what your family wanted in the first place?” You said to her.

“I will have to think about this, you have been quite daring and audacious lately Prince Alric.” Jandice said and continued. “Willing to be quite forward-looking.”

“I have to be, be it politics or relationships.” You replied, giving her a sly smile.

Jandice smiled and laughed a bit.

“I will have to think about this, but maybe we can find a solution that is beneficial to all of us.” Jandice replied.

“That is great to hear. It is wonderful after years of King Terenas being milquetoast, that we have people like you willing to wrestle with our problems and issues.” Fowley said to both of you.

“Thank you Mayor Fowley.” You replied and shared a smile with him.

There had been no sight of the older man you were looking for. Still with the gates closed and watched, sooner or later you would find him. That is if he hadn’t already slipped away through some other means.

The dead Syndicate assassins had been all collected, bodies laying on the muddy ground in a row with their swords and other weapons collected into a small pile. There wasn’t much to say about them as you stood and watched as the guards went through their bodies looking for anything and finding nothing at all.

Though some of the now dead assassins had been recognised by the guards. They were workers, farmhands and lumberjacks that had been recently hired. Fresh new workers to fill the needs of Tarren Mill. That would explain how they had managed to infiltrate into the town and also give you an avenue to watch and be inquisitive about. Every newcomer in Tarren Mill and in Dawnholme too, should be watched and followed. More work for Eligius and his men.

But as you stood, you knew that you wouldn’t accomplish much this way. As the rain continued to shower you and everyone around you, you knew that you could do something productive. Jandice had left to visit her estates quickly, but would return later in the evening back to Tarren Mill.

It probably wouldn't be smart to go bother Father Hampton right now. He most likely has his hand full with all the patients to spare any time for you. So visiting him would have to wait till tomorrow.

Now you just wanted to go change into a fresh set of clothes and get your dirty ones washed. Still wearing the bloodied and wet jacket and trousers made you feel a bit icky. Taking your knights with you, you marched through the town to see how Monica was faring.

"This isn't my blood!" You tried to explain to Monica who had become rather distressed and then relieved when she saw you walk into the inn. "Not a single cut anywhere!"

"You sure?" Monica asked back.

"I am very sure, I bet Malevus would have been all over my ass if I had gotten hurt." You replied with a chuckle.

"Still… there's blood everywhere…" Monica replied a bit sheepishly.

"Don't worry about it… unless you are still the one washing the clothes." You said with a jest.

"Thank the Light I have people who do it for me now." Monica replied as she started to collect herself back together. "Let's go to the restaurant side."

The inn was empty. Locals were all staying in their homes just in case and no travellers were now lodged in either. The hotel and the restaurant side were similarly empty, the clerks Monica had hired had taken advantage of this and were in the middle of cleaning everything.

"Alric, are you alright?" Monica asked as you watched as the floors were getting washed.

"Yeah, yeah I am." You replied, the earlier self-reflection was still in your mind.

"I can't imagine how all of this feels like. Sure the bandits once kidnapped me, but… I don't think that is equivalent." Monica replied and continued. "So what now Alric? Is there anything you need? If you want we could talk about what happened? I am your friend after all."

Monica seemed sincere with her words. And you hadn't talked with her that much since your arrival to Tarren Mill, well you have had plenty of other things to do during evenings after all…

"Well at first I want… I need to get washed. I don’t want to explain every new passerby that I in fact am alright." You said to Monica and looked down at your clothes.

"Probably a smart choice, I will get the bath ready then, leave the clothes you want washed in a bin outside the bathroom." Monica said with a smile.

"Thanks Monica, I would also like to see the room of the lone man who was staying in here a couple days ago." You said to her.

"Is he involved in this?" Monica asked and was surprised.

"He could be, he was there outside and looked at me just before the attack happened." You told her with a serious tone.

"Hmmm normally the privacy of our customers is very important for us… but I know you Alric and I know you wouldn't ask anything unreasonable." Monica replied to you.

"Prince Alric, if I may, we could search his room while you take the bath." Sir Gravis suggested. The knights needed to get cleaned up too, but they had more energy than you did.

"Not a bad idea." You replied. "Monica, please help them if they need anything."

You should probably have a look by yourself and drag Jandice there as well. Maybe she could spot anything magical in there?

"Will do Alric, Sir Gravis please follow me." Monica replied to you.

Alright, now just to walk upstairs, go fetch your clean clothes and then wait till the bath is ready. Hopefully it shouldn't take too long.

And thankfully it didn't. One of the workers had already heated plenty of water for washing linen so it didn't take that long for a bath to be mixed for you.

You made sure that the door to the small bathroom at the back of the hotel was locked as you started peeling off layers of your clothes. Your muscles ached as you pulled off the jacket and trousers, your legs having grown stiff from the encounter and having to walk up and down the stairs now. You cursed your condition as you pulled off your shirt to realise that blood and water had seeped through it as well. Really just your braies and socks had survived without getting bloody, but into the washing bin they went too. Then you just quickly opened the door, peeking outside and putting the bin there. Having instructed the worker earlier to be careful with the clothes, you sighed in relief and closed the door again.

The water was hot, quite hot, but it was exactly what you wanted. Your muscles needed it and a wave of pleasure ran through your body as you carefully climbed into the bathtub. Submerging in the water fully, you allowed the water to caress your body. By the Light it felt good, pure bliss after the long day. Now just to relax a bit before you start washing yourself.

>>
>>5914238

Though you couldn't exactly push your thoughts away from the earlier. Your body might have given up already and was enjoying the hot water, but your mind couldn't find peace. It was still processing the events. Especially as now there wasn't Jandice to flirt with or others around to occupy your mind.

You don't fear death in a battle, but the way you fought was something else. Everything had flowed, no second thoughts or hesitation. Like someone had guided you, you weren't alone.

You had smiled, you had laughed, you had felt alive.

You thought that maybe it was just pent up need and frustration for action that found its release. Or muscle memory kicking in and guiding you. But at the same time you knew that your green eyes were probably the answer, was the Fel influencing this part of you? The part that put pride into being a great swordsman, concentrated anger into strength for your strikes, the part that found enjoyment in sparring and success in the battles bringing honour and prestige. Yet none of these were bad things, but natural aspects that can be harnessed.

There were no denying that you hadn't felt incredible, that you hadn't felt alive. Denying that would be just lying to yourself. But how much of all this was the work of the Fel if any? You weren't sure, yet you couldn't put the idea away.

You had this nagging feeling about this. Should you be worried? Or was this mostly normal and you were just overthinking it?

>You felt alive and laughed. That isn't a bad thing. It was a reminder how good of a fighter you are and that you shouldn't neglect that part of you. Take pride in who you are.

Adrenaline is a thing, and especially as it's the first fight-or-flight response Alric has had for a while, maybe it's thrown him for a loop. Not everything has to be the fel.

in b4 it was always the fel

Get well soon Medivh! And damn anons be very horny, suggesting threesome you naughty anons. Isn't she like related to Alric technically?
If I recall correctly her father was Aiden's distant cousin or something
>>
>>5917182

That is a very good question, because you are right technically. No one just has a recollection of that. Lord Daval Prestor was a distant cousin to Aiden, but at some point he just disappeared, leaving the memories of most people with whom he interacted with. So the name Prestor has extremely little weight in Lordaeron and people can't really make the connection between Daval Prestor and Katrana Prestor in Azeroth.

Now the full no bothering with meta/in setting knowledge answer is that no, they are not related. Daval was Deathwings human form who disappeared after he suffered a set of defeats in the aftermath of Second War. So no distant cousins with Aiden, it was all a ploy. Of course Alric or anyone else have no knowledge or recollection of that.

So no update today either, I just don't have the energy or concentration to write or really do anything with the level of quality I want. Hence I have just in case archived this thread as we are on page 8 right now.

The answers to the write ins have been fun to read be they less or more serious and I guess if you lot have any more questions to ask, I might be able to answer them. Thanks for being patient with me being sick.

Are there any dwarves in Alterac?
There's this one who ruled the Red Caverns, which are speculated to have been in Alterac
https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/Dorgar_Stoenbrow (probably supposed to be Stonebrow)

Considering how mountainous it is I think it'd make sense.
It could also explain as to why some places in Alterac have dwarven names like Dun Baldar.
Granted it's more likely it was named like that by the Stormpikes who moved in later but if the settlement existed before I'm not sure if they would've renamed it, considering they are part of the human-led Alliance who'd probably want to claim the areas.

Anyways I hope you get well soon.

>>
>>5918505

Currently none. Most if not all fled during or after the Second War.

Lore we have is very lacking. We have that Stonebrow and then the Stormpikes, but they are about 10 years in the future when they make their appearance. But then we have Murgen Hammerfall who invented Thunder Clap and defeated invading gnolls in Alterac Mountains. So most likely he lived somewhere in the past and could have been part of the dwarfs in Alterac.

I will go with no dwarfs. If someone suggests to go claim the old Alteraci mines there, the reaction would be fuck that there are ogres and everything else there.

Pulling your fingers through your hair, you sighed deeply. It hadn't been a bad thing, laughing and feeling alive after everything that had happened to you in the past few months.

This reminded you how good of a fighter you were, one of the best if not the best young swordsman in the whole Lordaeron. There were those better and stronger than you, no denying that, but take pride in who you are and how far you have already gotten. This part of you shouldn't be neglected, you should try to become better, more athletic and skilled with blade.

Smiling, you lowered your head under the hot water for a couple of seconds and let your hair soak. Pulling your head back up you dropped your smile. You weren't sure how much of this was the effects of the Fel if any, but if it was… well you are the one in control. Not it.

Never.

You could stay in this hot water like this forever, but even if you wanted to do that, the water would get lukewarm at some point. So it was better to start washing yourself and massaging your aching muscles.

>8
>4

Having brushed your hair, you straightened your leather jacket and took a look at yourself with a mirror. Your hair was neat and tidy, so we're your clothes. The bath water had some herbs and oils in it that had left your skin smooth and slightly glistening in light. You looked rather dapper. Handsome even!

Though duty calls and after placing your glasses on to hide your eyes, you stepped out of the bathroom. The bin with your dirty clothes having already been taken away.

"Prince Alric, we have searched his room." Sir Gravis greeted you when you stepped into the still empty restaurant.

"Did you find anything?" You asked and leaned on your cane.

"No, we did not. The room had been left in an used, but otherwise spotless state." Sir Gravis replied.

"Damn it." You muttered, you had expected this to be the case. "So he had planned on leaving with or without success."

"We did go through the ledger, to see what name he had used." Sir Gravis said and continued with a rather annoyed tone. "Irvinc Ogfrey Nitower"

Irvinc Ogfrey Nitower?

No, surely not. Don't be this blatant.

irvINC OGfrey NITOwer

Incognito

"That mother fucker, what a fucking guy!" You shouted a loud. And now you were just as annoyed as Gravis was. "Really?"

"If you want to check the ledger…" He said back to you.

"No need. I believe you." You said and continued. "But nothing else?"

"Nothing else, I ordered the boys to get cleaned up. The Royal Foot Guards have taken the responsibility of guarding the premises now." Sir Gravis said to you. He looked rather tired.

"Good, well done Sir Gravis and good work earlier today." You said and gave him an approving nod.

"Thank you Prince Alric. But if plausible could I have a one request?" He asked you.

"Sure, what is it?"

"Please don't put yourself in danger like that ever again. It makes our jobs a tad too difficult." He said to you and grinned.

"No promises." You replied with a laugh.

You whirled wine in your glass as you waited for food and Monica to arrive. The hum of the rain outside kept you company as you stared out from a window.

"Foods ready Alric." Monica said and got your attention. "Nothing too complex this time, just boiled venison with herbs and some vegetables."

"Thank you." You said and looked at her. She looked just like before. Auburn hair and that green dress of hers.

"I sent the cook home early with no guest and all. So I did this myself." She replied and sat down opposite of you.

"It should be then quite tasty." You replied to her and took your plate.

There was a moment of silence before Monica decided to speak.

"When was the last time we spoke like this?" She asked you.

"Maybe… the last time I was here. Which was last autumn." You replied.

"A bit long time, don't you think?" She answered.

"Somewhat, I have been busy with everything that has been going on." You said to her. "Durnholde, the poisonings…"

"How are you?" She asked you suddenly.

"I think I am fine." You replied back to her and cut a small slice of the venison. "What do you mean?"

"Fine after all that?" Alric, how… I mean I heard from one patron who had seen everything from a window." Monica replied and continued. "Then everything else that has happened. How are you still pushing forward? How could you just cut through those men and now you are here looking as good as ever."

There was a tint of concern in her voice. The black noise device was on the table just in case, even though the restaurant was now empty.

"My brother Aliden sends men against me and my allies and friends. To here, to this very town. Civilians like you and your neighbours are an afterthought to them."

You stayed silent for a few seconds.

"I have a clean conscience putting monsters like these down or bandits like Redhill or the Syndicate in Strahnbrad Hills. I won't lose sleep over them…"

Taking your glasses that hid your eyes off, you looked into Monica's for a moment. There was a hint of surprise in them and then acceptance.

"Alric…" Monica started to say, but you silenced her by raising your hand.

"But for all this I do pay the price. Twisted ankle, my left arm has been bashed, arrow wound in my shoulder. And here is a knot of flesh and scar tissue where a gnoll punched through my chest with a spike." You said and tapped your chest. "When I got bedridden I had all the time to just think and I hadn't realised how hard I had pushed myself. How much work I had done. How tired I really was."

"It was a pause." Monica said.

"It was, I hadn't realised how close I was getting buried under all this and more. I was tired, tired as hell." You said and replied. "So no, I wasn't fine, I haven't been fine."

Monica looked at you as you spoke. Any vestiges of princely air around you disappearing and revealing a young man who had been very tired.

"When you are bedridden and barely able to move, you think that there needs to be a change. Previous way of doing things couldn't continue anymore." You told her and put your glasses back on. "I need to think more of myself and my well-being."

"I don't know what to say Alric, all that, your eyes…" Monica started to speak.

"You don't need to say anything, this dinner is exactly what I need. A pause with my friend to relax." You replied to her. "More this and less gory business… or Light forbid paperwork."

Your jest gotta laugh out of Monica, steering the conversation to something more lighthearted would be fitting now.

"This venison is pretty good." You said. "Fresh game?"

"From yesterday, local hunters as always." Monica replied.

>Ask her about the business, the restaurant and the hotel. She briefly spoke about it before, but you would like to hear about it in more detail.
>Monica usually has seen or heard something interesting. Any little details could be useful.

>The rumours about you, have Monica tell you what she has heard and if they have caused any issues to her?
>Tease her if she has managed to find someone or does she have many suitors after such a successful business lady?

Any new gossip?

Any new gossip about Alric?

The Darrowmere League and Oil deal can come up from the general gossip. The teasing can maybe fit in the rumours about us.

"How did this… you mentioned buying the neighbouring dormitory and then renovating it, but where did you get the idea?" You asked Monica.

"It really was and still is a gamble. Tarren Mill lacked a place to stay for merchants and others with more coin and I had an opportunity." Monica explained. "Your soldiers who visited the town always came here to drink, so I had the coin to invest and a stupid enough of an idea to go with."

"I wouldn't exactly call it a stupid." You said back to her.

"A lot hinges on will Tarren Mill grow and will what you do be successful. We are going to benefit from your success after all." Monica said.

"That is true, common interest and all." You mused and thought about asking about the League and oil, but chose to not do so right now. "Have you heard anything new?"

"Like what?" She asked.

"Rumours, news tidbits, anything that could interest me?" You replied.

"Well…" Monica said and thoughtfully tapped her chin with her fingers. "Mayor Fowley's physician supposedly is quite expensive."

"But his stomach problems did go away." You commented.

"They did, maybe worth the coin spent then… the merchants are supposedly disappointed with Southshore and their new Magistrate Jacobsen." Monica said to you.

Disappointed? That is interesting, Tarren Mill's merchants not liking that Jacobsen is just a figurehead for the Southshore's burghers?

"Is there anything else? Rumours about me?" You asked her.

"Nothing new… just the stuff you warned me about. A new woman in every town and place you go yadda yadda." Monica said to you. "Thanks for the warning by the way, it saved me quite many times. People are so quick at making assumptions, you know."

"Yeah it's not like a Prince and a bartender who happens to be a woman can be just friends." You said and sipped some wine. "But no, the reality must be what the rumours say."

"Yeah… you are right Alric." Monica replied to you and sipped her own wine.

"So have you found that someone yet, or are there plenty of suitors swirling around you?" You asked nonchalantly.

Monica nearly choked on the wine as your question caught her off guard.

"N-no… no I haven't. Why are you even asking?" Monica replied to you.

"Just wondering if a successful business woman like you had already found someone." You replied with a smirk.

"No… no luck there, but speaking of that. I can't be the only one who has noticed it, but have you seen how Lady Barov looks at you?" Monica said and leaned in a bit.

Oh no, has she realised anything?

"I-I have… she seems like a nice person." You replied carefully.

"She is so beautiful too! Carries her with grace." Monica said and continued. "Oh she is so perfect."

The door to the restaurant opened, giving you an opportunity to not answer as you saw who arrived. You grinned and decided to play with Monica a bit.

"Hello Prince Alric, Miss Sengutz." Jandice greeted as she pulled off her soaking wet hood.

"Hello Lady Jandice." You replied to her as she walked to the two of you. "We were just talking about you."

You spared a glance towards Monica who realised what you were going to do. You could see the shock and resignation in her eyes.

"Oh? What did you talk about me?" Jandice asked and raised her eyebrows a bit.

"Monica here thinks that you are beautiful, that you carry yourself with grace and that you are perfect." You told Jandice.

"Do you really believe so? Oh thank you Miss Sengutz, your words warm my heart." Jandice said to her with a smile as Monica barely kept herself together. "And Prince Alric."

"Yes Lady Jandice?" You asked.

"It is a poor form to pester a woman like that, Miss Sengutz looks like she will explode any second now." Jandice replied before laughing at herself.

You joined the laugh as you knew Jandice loved to hear those words from you and she realised your small jest towards Monica.

"Don't worry Monica, Lady Jandice has a good sense of humour and I couldn't avoid this opportunity." You said to her.

"Bullied by two powerful nobles…" Monica muttered to herself.

"Prince Alric, we can talk more about the events tomorrow. I will now head into my room for the night." Jandice replied to you. "Oh Miss Sengutz, send wine into my room. Two bottles preferably."

"I will Lady Barov." Monica said to her.

You watched as Jandice walked away, your gaze lingering a bit too long on her backside. Suddenly you felt a soft kick on your leg.

"What?" You asked.

"You stared too long at her, manners Alric." Monica replied.

"Yeah, but you were the first one to call her beautiful. I had to see it with my own eyes." You said with a laugh.

"Maybe those rumours about you have some truth in them after all." Monica muttered and chuckled.

Oh if she knew the truth…

"Hold your hand still and just like before draw the line on the paper." Jan gave you advice.

It was evening already. You had finished the dinner with Monica mostly laughing and bantering about before retiring into your room and asking not to be disturbed. You wanted to rest in silence. Not long after that you had slipped into Jandice's room where she was already waiting with a wine glass in hand for this evening's magic studies.

And everything else that would follow.

You did as told and a soft purple somewhat uneven line appeared on the paper from your finger before turning ink black.

"Very good Al, now let's see if you can do circular patterns and not just straight lines. This can be surprisingly difficult for beginners so concentrate well.

Alright, now just concentrate just like Jan instructed you. Apply too much mana on your fingertip and you are just going to cause a mess. Too little and nothing happens. Force it too hard and your fingers start to hurt. Just the right amount and then shape it into the right form on the paper.

Certain sharpness to it, not too soft. Imitate a real quill and ink as much as you can.

Placing your right index finger on the paper, you had a good feeling about this. The events earlier in the day were out of your mind, only things that mattered were you and that paper. And then you wrote.

Starting with drawing a spiral on the paper, you let your fingertip flow on the paper as you next started writing your own name one letter at time not once lifting your finger off.

"Impressive, please continue and don't mind the distractions." Jan replied as she watched over your shoulder.

She leaned down and wrapped her left arm around your chest and guided her right down your arm, taking hold of your hand.

"Just keep writing." She whispered into your ear and you did as told as she guided your hand and finger on the paper.

Letter at a time she made you write a message. Half-way through you realised what she was asking and just smiled as you let her hold your hand and finish guiding it.

"Did you mean what you said in the restaurant?"

You wrote a reply.

"Monica's words, but yes."

You felt Jan's breathing by your neck and she squeezed a bit harder on your chest. Nothing happened in for a few moments.

She then made you write a reply while guiding your hand.

The moment you finished it, you dropped everything and turned around to kiss Jan. Wrapping arms around her and making out with her, you carried her into the bed and fell on it with her. The wordless passion flared as your bodies got entangled with each other as both tried to find ways of stripping each other of the clothing.

Nothing else mattered in the world right now, just you and her as the reply had been short and to the point.

"I love you"

Good spot to end this thread, all that flirting and the impressive use of magic did lead here. We dealt with the assassins, progressed some things and the next scene is Alric visiting Father Hampton and hopefully not getting ambushed again by the Syndicate.

New thread will most likely come up tomorrow. My annoying sickness threw a wrench into the pacing a bit, but things like that can happen.

This thread is archived. Thank you for playing and reading. And as always if you have any questions or comments about the Quest or the characters or for the QM, please go ahead and say or ask them. I will try to answer them as best as I can in this thread or in the next one.

Those are dangerous words Jandice, you're at risk of heartbreak.

Thanks for running. Question: When did we give Malevus the vial? It says in the pastebin that she has it but I don't remember Alric giving it to her.
>>
>>5924361

It happened offscreen so to speak. While you were bedridden and the migrants from Underbelly arrived, Malevus got the idea of using the blessed water with the ones who were sick. Since then she has been carrying it and the small pouch it fits in. Helps her in her duties.

She can take it while working as a healer but I'd rather we keep it with us please and thank you.

That is the plan.

Also NEW THREAD!
