Last time you picked on Newt until you heard the juicy bits of the night before. You also got drunk and gave Grue his second bath, taking care not to get any soap in his eyes.

You've put on another show this evening, similar to the one last night. The crowd seems to love it just as much as the first time, although this time the crowd is much larger. Especially Gregor's bit.
As you reach the finale with Ruby, you decide to change things up a bit, and ask the audience for volunteers to stand in front of the bow. More hands then you expect go up, but in the front row a small hand raises into the air. "I would like to participate." It's the little old man, the one who knows about the assassination.

    >>11182896
Um... well this MIGHT be a way to tie up a loose end... on the other hand our show would suffer if we killed him.
I say we let him participate. Treat him like any other volunteer. He hasn't confronted us yet.

well, seems as good an idea as any I suppose.
Or we could pick another volunteer?

Let him go up, just don't try to have him killed. It probably wouldn't work even if we tried and if it did we'd lose all of our tips when we could just as easily work this out after the show and keep our money.

You call the old man up. For now you'll just pretend that nothing is going on and continue with the show. You place the fruit on his head, a pear this time, and step away. As you pass Ruby you whisper in her ear to just shoot the fruit like last time. "Alright. I'd feel bad about killing an old guy anyway."
The arrow flies true, as to the next several and the throwing knives. Trying to top herself, Ruby fires three arrows at once. The little man's hands blur, with hardly more sound then tiny snaps, he holds the three arrows in his hands. He looks down at the arrows ans smiles. "I haven't down that in years. It's nice to know I still can."
The audience once again breaks into cheers, loving this new final act, though some distant part of you notes that the cheers for the damn goat were louder and longer then any other part of the show.

You smile at the crowd and take a bow. Also, in a flash of genius, you send Gregor and Zanne out with tips bucket. From a quick glance, you'll probably beat what you made last night.
As the monk passes you you bend down to him and tell him to meet you in your room in twenty minutes. He nods and disappears into the crowd again.
Zanne gives you the tips bucket, which is filled tonight, and smiles. "We are making quite a bit of money with these inn shows Janice. And the crowd loved Gregor." You head up to your room with Ruby and begin to pace nervously. Ruby has her back to a wall and is facing the door. After a few moments you hear a soft knocking. Opening it, the monk walks in. "So then... what did you want to talk about?"

You sit down on the bed and ask what the monk wants. Money? You have some of that. Women? Power? You can't do any of that. You both know what happened, so whats the monk going to do?
The old man smiles at you. "Nothing. I want nothing from you. As I said before, my vows prevent me from carrying more money then is the bare necessity. And I have not laid with a woman since well before your parents were born. I doubt my old body could take it. The bearded man, who checked out shortly after your talk with him, was not hurting me or anyone I know. I am seeking the path to enlightenment, nothing more. I want nothing that you can give me." He begins chuckling to himself, "Have you been getting all worked up about it?"

Everything went better then you expected. The old monk shrugs again. "As for the man's money pouch? Well I firmly believe that no one will need money when they are dead. The undertaker will get paid no mater what, and if the man could afford that man servants then I doubt his family will go hungry. Taking it hurt no one."
Ruby leans foreword. "What's he talking about hun? You told me about it being an assassination, but you never said anything about a money pouch. He also said you talked to the assassin. You never told me about that either. Are you keeping secrets from me?" Ruby shakes her head. "Wait. Why do I even care? You've only known me a few days anyway." You can tell she really does care.

You turn bashfully to Ruby. You assure her that you just talked to the guy. You say him in his room surrounded by bottles and thought he might have killed himself. Since there were only four people downstairs, suspicion would fall on you or the monk if another one turned up dead. As for the money... you took it on an impulse. You haven't even counted it yet, and you aren't sure why you were hiding it. Ruby sits back and looks at you suspiciously. "How do I know your telling the truth this time?"
"I doubt that she would continue hiding things from you now that she's been outed. However, this is none of my business. Maybe we shall see each other on the road, or maybe not." With a low bow the monk leaves.

Ruby struggles as you pout and tell her, using all the sincerity your bardic skills can muster, that you don't want to be alone tonight. You wrap your arms around Ruby, holding her close. You promise not to keep secrets from her, and that what with one thing and another you'd honestly forgotten about the pouch. Speaking of which, Ruby was laughing at you earlier, why was that? Ruby sighs theatrically, making her chest swell in a pleasant manner under your arms, "You are NOT built for booze Janice. You can take a swig or two, but get a few pints in you and you... Well you were yelling about getting Grue's pants off in the middle of the bar." Now is as good a chance as any you suppose. You ask how she feels about you. Ruby is quite for a while. "Well... we've only know each other for a very short time. The sex has been great but... you know I'm not sure. You're good at talking to people, and great at cheering them up. And I... I feel comfortable around you. Some people would treat me differently if they found out about my taste in women, and I've had some really good friends cut all ties with me when they found out. You let go or Ruby and agree that now is a good time for it. Ruffling through your stuff, you take out the heavy pouch. Loosening the drawstrings you tip it over. Silver and gold pours out. The first thing you see is the 10 gold pieces, then another 3 gold worth of silver. 1300 silver pieces. You've lost count, but that brings your total money to about 2050 silver. This is more money then you've had your entire life combined.
But you still need to pay your performers, and Tanot's 5% cut. Of course, they don't NEED to find out about this 1300 silver, as it didn't come from a show.

The shopping spree of shopping sprees! And you still have that bolt of silk in your wagon, everyone will need costumes. As these thoughts race through your head you hear Ruby velvety chuckle. "Hey you. It's getting late. Come on to bed. Oh and... bring those gold pieces, I've never even seen one before."

The next morning you're woken up by a sunbeam coming in through your window and directly into your face. Wait, sunbeam? The storms are over! There are still plenty of clouds in the sky, but there are plenty of patches of blue between them as well.

Hesitating for a minute, you want the reigns of your wagon over to Tabby as sit on Tanot's wagon, calling Newt over. Confused, she complies. As the wagons start to get movie you breach the subject of safe sex to Newt. She blushes, but your serious. What if she gets pregnant? Gets a disease? Traveling is hard on pregnant women. These things DO need to be thought about. Tanot sighs. "Before you ask, yes I do." He reaches into some pockets inside his traveling cloak. He pulls out a small vial or a pink liquid. "If you drink this before it'll prevent pregnancy, and most diseases. You should still be careful, because it only prevents MOST. If you drink it now then it's still early enough to stop you from getting knocked up. They cost about 10 silver, and you can get them from most apothecaries. You get back to were you had lunch when Ruby stops the horse and gets off. She ties the horse to a tree and hides int he bushes, notching an arrow. Following her lead and hide yourself. After about twenty minutes you hear a snort and sniffing coming from the trees behind you. "I know your hiding Janice, I can smell you. I can smell you on your ladyfriend as well." Turning around, you see the lumbering form an Ta'Kal exiting the trees. You must say it's quite impressive. A sward bigger then you are is strapped to his back and light glints off his armor and helmet... which has horns on it. Other then that bit of ridiculousness the sight of an armored and arm Minotaur is intimidating. "I'm not surprised you saw me. Your friend looked to be quite a woodswoman." 4E paladins don't have to be LG, they just have to be the same as their deity. Which is probably Kord, judging by this >>11186075

Unfortunately, it seems his groin is as well armored as the rest of him. However, not staring at his groin is probably a good thing. You greet him and ask why he's been following you. Ta'Kal coughs. "Following you? Oh no, I wouldn't dream of it! I was simply-" the crack of thunder rolls across the plains, and Ta'Kal flinches. "Oh alright you, I'll tell the truth. Yes, yes I was following you." You can't tell under the fur, but you think Ta'Kal is blushing. "I... well I can;t get Tabby out of my head. I've been thinking about what you and her have told me, and I understand if she does not wish to return my feelings, but I... Well I want to make sure she stays safe. She is strong, but there are plenty of things that are stronger. Which is somewhat difficult, as my god teaches that we need to be free and build our strength."

Wait... in 3.0 Kord was Chaotic Good and in 4E hes unaligned. But he's all about fighting in both. Why didn't he put down Grue for good?

Tell him that if he really has a thing for Tabby, stalking her might not be the best plan. After all doesn't his god also prefer that dealings be open? I think a god of fighting might frown on sneaking around like that.

Kord hates killing weaklings. And cats, Kord hates cats. And bunnies. And those little umbrellas they put in drinks. And small shoes. And Three cornered hats. And Kord really hates those guys that show up during the middle of the day and wanna talke about their odd quasi-religion. And tiny sandwiches.

You have to ask him, if he's a Paladin, why didn't he kill Grue in self defense? Ta'Kal seems surprised. "Well that's easy. Grue isn't evil. I don't think he has an evil hair on his body." Well alright then... but his god probably wouldn't appreciate the sneaking about. A flash of lightning and another roll of thunder. Ta'Kal looks up into the sky. "ALRIGHT ALREADY! I understand! You can stop with the theatrics." He looks back to you. "Well... To be COMPLETELY honest, I was hoping you would run into more bandits and I could be a big damn hero, but you're more then competent enough to deal with highwaymen. I haven't really thought about what to do next."

You sigh and roll your shoulders in an overly dramatic fashion. You gesture for the Minotaur to follow you and you and Ruby mount the horse. "Why... thank you, But I don't see how I can help with your act. I can't do much other then fight. I can't even preach that well." As long as you don't push the horse into a full gallop Ta'Kal seems to be able to keep up. As you go, you mention Grue's eye and explain the situation to him. He thinks for a moment and nods. "I think I should be able to do that. I've never really healed more then battlefield injuries, but I think I can do that."
You approach the wagons and you see everyone geared up for a fight.
