You go downstairs again, and this time you walk down a street until you come to the Herring Lake.
... It's... huge, from close up. You can see that, all along the water's edge, are chains, anchors, and other strange port equipment - a reminder that the lake used to be not just a lake but a large dockland. In the morning, with the clouds partially covering the sun every now and then and a constant breeze, the place is actually... quite chilly.
You decide to go just two rounds first, since the lake does look pretty large. As you go round, you keep a lookout on the buildings around you. Along the south shore, it's mostly redbrick apartments - quiet, not many people - and then a few high-rise developments, quite like the one you're living in.
Then, when you cross the dock bridge, you come across a large park, at the edge of which stands a cluster of yellow-orange buildings. On the top of one building, a tower, is the word SAFFRON. This must be the college, then. The north shore of the lake is much greener, more houses instead of apartments, and every now and then a large factory or warehouse comes into view behind those housing estates.
Just then, you hear footfalls behind you and turn around. A young woman, hair tied in a bun, is running, and you can hear the music she hears. It's... not very nice. She's gaining on you, and you know she seems pleased about that.
